LG G4 H815 TWN Bootloop - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So guys today the most un-thinkable happened my ex-h815 taiwan s/n 505 which i sold of yesterday in a near perfect working condition to a buyer for 210US$ got bootloop bricked stuck on LG...Got msg from him today cursing n abusing me for selling an abusive n faulty phone he looked like a poor guy too ofcourse i didnt reply his message cuz i already told him he is responsible for whatever happens after the payment ...i maybe an a***** feeling sorry for him and feeling bad for myself well its not my fault its LG's....now LG is under warranty only in taiwan not in US cux its a TWN variant he wont get fixed here in US and the buyer n his friend actually looked like couple of junkies or red necks to say they didnt knew tech stuff like i did...as per agreement i didnt gave him any warranty...i also had bought without warranty from a retail store now the original price for fixing this phone is 200US$ for motherboard replacement he wont fix it cuz he can actually buy a used G4 different models for same or even little less price even korean models to say ..i guess he will be cursing me for rest of his life ...i know karma is bad i might actually get back what i did some day as a punishment maybe LG should too for making faulty phones and putting me into this situation in the first place #neveragainLG #boycottLGfor life RIP H815 good phone ruined by LG

i told him could get it fixed in taiwan cux its a taiwan other than that he checked the phone for an hour to make sure everything was ok ... i didnt even knew whether this taiwan model would bootloop cux it was already running for about a year n a month from its production date in may ...he must be a power user playing heavy games or stuff might had caused the bootloop ...in my time period i didnt used any heavy stuff on it and no i didnt told him about the bootloop issue the retail store that i bought from also didnt told me about the bootloop issue when i bought it used in February 2016

LG taiwan is not going to help him unless he goes to taiwan himself i am sure of it i had sent them an email prior to the issue of the bootloop just for checking whether they will help or not cuz i read here on xda they had the worst public relation department ever they makeup an excuse for not having the imei in their database even showing them the screenshot of IMEIINFO website they didnt reply after that i even tried calling them i had this chinese guy speaking in broken english to just factory reset the phone from recovery he avoided the bootloop question n kept saying factory reset so yea they know they make faulty phones in the end the customer is always responsible for the phone

But in my opinion you shouldn't blame yourself, I recently bought a Longines watch for $2000 and you know what, it had a faulty chronograph, I've sent it for a warranty and I had to wait for a month but when it came back and I started the chronograph it seemed to be fixed until I tried to reset it and it wouldn't reset on 12, instead on 1 so they had to send it for a warranty once again and now 2nd month in a row I'm still waiting for it to comeback. The watch was brand new, bought from authorized Longines dealer. I saved $400 from original price because they told me that it was the last watch in stock that's why the price was lower. So in my opinion my situation is even worse compared to the guy you sold your phone to

true that ur losses are very heavy i dont know maybe its trend out here for big flagship overseas companies to make faulty stuff recently i heard the new Samsung Galaxy S7 has touch issue its unresponsive sometimes when typing text ...the tech guys looked into it to determine its a hardware issue i dont know why is this happening through out the world ...ur G4 is probably not going to bootloop but dont trust LG they r bunch of liars n thieves ...LG V10 has also started to have bootloop issue like the G4 since June this year bunch of phones reported on youtube ...so u never know what would happen in these korean phones...

ATT rep said my recent warranty claim was the 1st one made?

Certainly that can't be right.
Nevertheless, I have to say my experience getting my bricked phone (my fault entirely) replaced throught the ATT warranty dept went very well.
They even included overnight shipping, didn't require me to ship mine back 1st and included a return shipping label for my crapped out phone. I made the claim Friday and received my new phone Monday 11 am.

What can you advise me to do with my bricked phone? I bought my phone from eBay and I live in Israel. I think that will not be able to replace my phone for a new one. Only if I'll send it directly to LG. But will there be something to do?

Maybe LG but ATT won't do anything for you unless your a customer. And usually warrenty is not outside of the country you got it from.

I think this particular ATT Rep was smoking salmon...I have returned 2 already due to warranty stuff and will probably be selling the next replacement I get...the rep at my local store wasn't overly enthused with the phone and said that was the consensus.
On a lighter note they were very helpful with getting this taken care of and doing so very quickly...

I don't have AT&T so despite living in the USA, I sent my phone directly to LG. (I use an AT&T MVNO, so I don't get support from AT&T) LG repaired it free of charge and mailed it back. So I guess LG does something right.

what's been the issue(s) with your phones?
Generally, I tend to find local store rep's opinions to be, well, less than they should be. After using this phone for 2+ months I'm unsure why a local store rep would not communicate the benefits of this device as opposed to their lack of enthusiasm for it.
I don't think the phone is so bad...I think there are lots of great things about it. I love the screen, it has the potential to be so quick and snappy and really could be an all around awesome phone...I just realized the fact that updates were going to be a little slower towards this phone and it seemed like making any slight mod (firmware/rom wise) would work but had a much higher failure rate than I think anyone was looking for-hence my looking to move on...
The specific issues with my phone were a short or something that just hard bricked the phone without warning and without any mods...at all. It just turned off one day and nothing could ever, every be done to get it back on. Strange.... the second phone has never been quite right after installing a rom and the boot loops and not being able to reboot was kind of a turn off. Plus the speaker in the earpiece has been a bit wonky so I decided to do a warranty return and then move on from there.
And you're right...some of the reps seem to be way off from what's realistic...you can tell they definitely play favorites and seem to be very partial and unsupportive. But at least they were helpful!

I called LG Customer Service and told them the device wouldn't power up. (I had done a battery pull and it totally hardware bricked the device.) They had me send it to Stellar Wireless with the Repair Authorization # they gave me. I got it back within 7 business days.

Exchanging in a store during your 30 day buyers remorse period is different than exchanging through warranty. You might have exchanged it several times in store, but to AT&T's warranty department, this is the first time. They keep track of how many warranty claims you make, once you get to a certain point they usually allow you to try something different.
As for AT&T store reps, many of them base their opinions on phones on popularity, return rate, etc. The Nitro/Optimus LTE is an awesome phone, but it isn't very popular saleswise.

One problem - I live in Israel, and in my country this device is officially not for sale. So I do not know how and where to call and send the device. I have no idea what to do.
AT&T reps were trained to lie to customers. I had to turn in my SGS2 twice for exchange, and both times I was told I was the first to exchange the SGS2.

Warranty Claim or Pay to Repair in the U.S.? Please help me. (SDS involved)

Hello people!
Looks like I might have become the first in the U.S. to experience the SDS issue, at least among those who attend this forum regularly? Because I searched and searched, read and read, and could not find a single sign that anyone in the U.S. has experienced this SDS issue and filed a warranty claim to someone/somewhere. I contacted Samsung USA and they said this device is not supported and they're not trained to provide the support to me, and directed me to their international website... I had not luck with their international website either, so I contacted Amazon seller who I bought my N7100 from. And they have not replied in the past couple days...
So I wanted to see if anyone here has imported his/her n7100 into the U.S. and happened to encounter any issue with the phone and successfully filed warranty claim against Samsung. If so, how can that be done?
Worst case scenario, I pay to repair n7100 in the U.S., who should I go to? Or do I have to send the phone overseas either way?

I did not import my phone, I got it from Sprint, BUT..................given the choice, ship it back to Korea for Warranty!!! Have you ever a conversation with repair tech's in most mobile shops here??? And even with TEP they will give you every excuse how YOU messed it up or dropped and and your claim is denied.
If you send it back and likely they will get you someone that actually BUILDS the note's, original part, or give you a brand new (not referb) Note!!

How long have you had the phone? Is it within 30-day return period? For return/replacement reasons I only buy items from Amazon that are Prime Eligible even if the non-Prime ones are dirt cheap.

I wish! :crying: I've had it for well over 5 months. It wasn't prime even tho I do have prime membership, because at the time I bought it, only ones available are from all kinds of importers/sellers that sell THRU amazon. Even though it's prime (fulfilled by Amazon), im not sure if it's Amazon that you can contact for warranty claim after 5 months, because it is not sold by Amazon but only "fulfilled".
It's unlucky to say the least. It is essentially "mistake by mistakes" made by me. I shouldn't have assumed that there should be no issue like SDS on an Samsung device; I shouldn't have assumed that if something happens, it's easy as a breeze to just call Samsung UK to get things fixed; I shouldn't have assumed that the seller I chose on Amazon is willing to help me if Samsung UK and Samsung USA kicks me back n forth; etc etc...

Sorry about the warranty bro. By the way, I've successfully returned items to sellers without problems even when it was only fulfilled by amazon. One instance was an order of 750gb seagate xt HD, to which I received a 60gb HD instead. Contacted the seller, got no response, contacted Amazon and I was immediately issued an RMA.
As far as requesting support from warranty, knock on wood, I haven't such experience yet with items purchased from amazon.

Tried turning it on but I'm just getting the dim red light that flashes slowly when I press the power button. Charging light is off and the phone appears absolutely dead.
A while ago I checked to see if I have a vulnerable chip, and it was positive.
Samsung's live chat said they don't support international products.
I might go to one of those repair places tomorrow to see if they can diagnose the phone. Then I might see if Samsung USA will even look at it, or else I might send it to UK or Korea?
What have you done since your phone suffered from the SDS?

Sorry about your unlucky situation.
By repair places, do you mean Samsung support center or something? I talked to Samsung USA also and they wouldn't even talk to me if I tell them the model number (n7100). So I really don't know where I should go now. I contacted original seller and the help was minimal (telling me to contact Samsung).
I would like to send it to either UK or Korea, as long as it can be repaired, or even better, if it can be repaired under warranty.
Let me know what you find out with repair places.
Also, I did not know about SDS after my phone's dead. So I had been suffering from hangs/freezes but thought it was only software problem and was being lazy about re-flashing it. I wish I'd come here more often when the phone was in a good condition, not after it died... Anyway, after I got to know that it's been SDS'd, I contacted seller, SamUK, SamUSA without any luck. It is just amazing how much we are unsupported in this situation. As large as Samsung has become, how hard can it be for them to just provide global repair services (if not warranty services)

I'm about to go to a phone repair place for a diagnostic test and see if they can do anything. I'll let you know what I find.
I was surprised to read that Samsung UK didn't wasn't helpful, since this phone is sold there. As a last-case scenario I was thinking of sending my phone to a friend over there and sending it in for repair.
Okay, as of today I sent the phone to a friend in the UK who was kind enough to let me use his address. It really sucks from having the best, most powerful phone to nothing, but I will likely pick up a Nexus 4 to use. I don't regret purchasing the phone since I wanted to have the best and it needed to be unlocked, but in the future I will be more cautious about buying one without local warranty.
I just hope the phone is 'dead' enough so the fact that I rooted it isn't detected.
What have you done with yours? I imagine it'll take ~2 weeks for my package to get shipped across the pond, and then I'll calculate 1.5 months for repair. I'll keep you posted on how it goes; maybe it's an option to get yours repaired there too?

I bought a nexus 4 as well lol. I really needed a phone and it was cheap! :good: The experience has been as good as on N7100. 4.2.2 is even smoother now.
I have been caught up with school works and sth else in life, so I haven't really tried anything else yet. Samsung UK sent me an email that I cannot reply (automated email system), gave me a link to the list of Samsung regional supports (hell, they think I cannot find that on my own?!), and nothing more. Samsung USA just slammed the door in my face, basically saying "no, good luck" when I tried live support on their website. So now I am still trying to get my original seller into this and help me, but they haven't replied in the past 2 weeks.
I wish I had a friend in UK!
BTW, when you bought your phone thru Amazon, did you notice where the phone came from? I'm not sure where my came from now.. It has German, French, and Italian user guide in it, but on the warranty card, it seems to be written in German and Slovenian. And Samsung Electronics Austria GmbH is the only thing I can read (those long, long german words are giving me a headache :silly: ) It talked about three regions - Austria, Slovenia, and Switzerland (thanks to Google Translate). So it looks like this phone might come from Austria. I am not sure if it still can be sent to UK for repair.
Well my friend in the UK really only has to drop it in his mail and then accept it when it comes back. I'll let you know how it goes because he might be able to help you too. I'm pretty sure mine came from California (Amazon seller WorldWide Distributors). But the firmware version on the phone was from Brazil or Panama.
I made an account on Samsung UK's site and it accepted the model number, serial number and IMEI number so despite not being from the region, it should be good. Did you do anything to your phone just before it died? I think that installing MIUI with kernel 4.1.1 was the insult that triggered it all for me. I should've realized the vulnerability but assumed the newest version would have the SDS fix included.
I was thinking about bringing it to a cell phone repair place for diagnosis, but it didn't have water damage or broken screen so I doubt they could have helped.
Being optimistic, not having a good cell phone is really allowing me to focus on my final USMLE studies!

WOW good luck with the exam, i used to do premed but changed my major my GPA wasn't good enough
Anyway, that's for sure a better news. It looks like Samsung UK does not screen off phone bought outside of UK support region (if yours was from Mid/latin america.

A while ago I checked to see if I have a vulnerable chip, and it was positive.
Samsung's live chat said they don't support international products.
I might go to one of those repair places tomorrow to see if they can diagnose the phone. Then I might see if Samsung USA will even look at it, or else I might send it to UK or Korea?

Oh btw, I don't think anything triggered the issue, it was just there from the beginning I didn't even install anything new for at least 2 months before the phone died. Just normal daily use - web browsing, call, SMS, mobile IM, etc. I did start experiencing random freezes about 2 weeks before the phone died, and it became much more frequent towards the end of its life.

Search "SDS xda" on google, and you'll find a ton of info. I didn't know about this issue before my phone died, so I never bothered to check if the chip in my phone was defective hehe..

LG refuse to repair second-hand Swappa bought phone

I recently bought a barely used LG G4 from Swappa. I've been using it for about 2 months or so.
The phone was running stock and as of a few days ago it went into the infamous bootloop problem.
I called LG and they said that my warranty is voided because I had bought the phone second hand. I find this to be pretty ridiculous because the Bootloop problem is a hardware defect by LG, why does it matter if it is second hand or first hand? And right now they are refusing to repair it unless I have a proof of purchase from the original seller (He doesn't seem to have one/ lost it.)
Any advise on how to proceed on this? I am pretty pissed that I spent 400$ on a flagship phone that isn't a year old with manufacturing defect and NOW without warranty. (Canadian variant of LG G4)
Thats crazy. I just took mines back to fido yesterday. Im getting rid of it as soon as it comes back.
They refused me with a unit purchased on eBay UK, this is nonsense

That's the problem right there. You have to get the original bill and pass yourself off as the original buyer. How would they know.
Warranties are not transferable. Check if it applies in your country because it does where i am.
This is at their discretion. If they don't ask then nobody knows.

Tell them you're a diehard LG fan or something and this never happened with the many LG hones you've had. And that you would be heart broken by your favourite company.

Cost of out-of-warranty motherboard replacement in the UK?

Does anyone here know how much it costs in the UK to get the motherboard replaced out-of-warranty (to fix the bootloop issue)?
Also, if the phone is a TWN model H815, is there any chance that a new motherboard fitted in the UK will allow me to unlock the bootloader?
I don't know how much but probably too much

You should had searched the internet before buying the g4 make it habit next time when buying any phone dont buy it at the launch wait aleast 6 months forbthe bugs to appear n if its problematic dont buy it without warranty

You might have old stock. What's the first 4 digits of the serial number?
I would agree with cosmos23, try and get a phone on eBay with a cracked screen because it'll be much much cheaper when you just put your screen on the eBay device or just put the eBay device motherboard into your phone. This depends on which is in better condition or easier to do.
You'll have to get a H815 EU for easy bootloader unlocking. Try and make sure the serial number is 60x.

Try calling LG Resolution Centre 01332527386 tomorrow and tell them that you would need to have motherboard replaced and ask them how much would it cost if it was out of warranty repair. They might divert you to Taiwanese support centre since this is not even EU device.
Alternatively try 01233 619320 which is the actual repair centre (for LG and looks like many other companies) as that is where they send the phones for repair:

Though in general 2 things to keep in mind: LG haven't been able to get motherboards for over a month now and the service of this company might be one of the worst in the UK so make a decision wisely. Be prepared that it is going to cost time and money (a lot of both). Don't worry about bootloader now as that will be the least of your concerns once you get with any of those people in touch. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

The serial number is 505K*, so I was doomed from the start I guess. Many thanks for the suggestion - that makes alot of sense. I'm struggling to decide on what to do next. Buying a used G4 would cost around £180 and that too may start bootlooping within a month of me buying it (I'm not sure whether even the 6* serial motherboards will prove to be reliable in the long run). I thought about buying a G5, but the USB-C adapter would be a pain in the neck as I have a ton of chargers and cables in various locations which would all require adapters. Plus the G5 doesn't have the multi-window feature, which I use alot in the car. Plus the G5 would be another £100-150. Plus the G5 might develop the some sort of bootlooping issues as the G4 over time - it's still quite new to the market. Plus my G4 accessories would be redundant (LG spare battery kit and a battery/charging case).
A removable battery is a must, so my choices are limited. I've looked at the Galaxy Note 4 but the camera is nowhere near as good in low light, and flash photography is terrible on the Note 4. Decisions, decisions.....

Many thanks for that info. I did call the main LG support number (0344***) on Wednesday. They were too busy to deal with my query so promised me a call back in 24-48 hours. I'm still waiting. I'll certainly give those two other numbers a try though. I might also ask SBE how much they would charge to transplant a screen to a "good" host/motherboard.

Yes I'll keep an eye open for G4s with cracked screens (and serial nos > 600).
I've been reading about the Axon 7 - looks like a great device. If only it had a removable battery :0(
Good luck with SBE. They have my phone now since 29/07 and does't even answer my emails. Mine is bootlooping as well but in warranty. Maybe they will act nicer way for a paid job.

Hmmm...I see what you mean. I tried calling them this morning but gave up after 30 mins on hold. Tried the LG number and they said they'd call me back (again). I'm not holding my breath.....

Did you call LG support? My phone is with LG (repair subcontractor). Repair under warranty. They got my phone on Aug. 11th and I was told it shows up in the system as motherboard replaced on 15/8, but I am still to receive it.
Called up LG yesterday, and was told they won't chase it up unless 14 working days pass since they received it.
Did you call LG? What did they tell you?

Yes I called LG Support twice - once on Thursday Aug 18th (i.e. a week ago), then again on Monday Aug 22nd. On both occasions I was told that they would call me back within 24-48 hours.

That means you got to the overflow line. Keep calling back until you ger to support or ask them (the overflow line people) to give you an update. They have access to the system.

No I'm not. Got a reply from the contractor, it is BS btw. So as long as I don't even know, I can't even find my rights or what's LG's repair policy, they will just lie and equivocate. Oh and considering what other ppl are telling about call backs etc.
So first I need to find out officially how long does it takes to repair. Or have to be repaired.

Okay so I just phoned up LG. They don't know why does it takes so long and promised a call back on tuesday cuz of bank holiday monday. And about repair policy it shouldn't takes more than 10-14 working days.

My phone was delivered back to me from warranty repair exactly on the 14th working day since they received it. Seems OK so far.
I have also received a reply to a Support Request regarding this via the Support Form on their website... they took a month to reply... something along the liens of: Sorry we're so late replying, if you still need help with this please contact us...
Says all about their respect for their customers...
The cost is £110 from the LG repair centre place..... never buying anything with LG on it again or anything made by them both my LGg2 and G4 died doing nothing special not even playing games....

Keep or Replace Refurb LG G4? Original G4 bootlooped last week

Verizon LG G4 purchased right after release in 2015. Bootlooped last Monday 10/10, replacement arrived Saturday through Verizon's service center in Texas. Serial number on replacement starts with 506, which I believe means assembled June 2015. I presume it was refurbished due to motherboard failure associated with bootloop.
I don't have a landline and the lack of a smartphone last week was damaging to my business and personal life. I need to know if the replacement G4 models are reliable or not.
If I get rid of the G4 preferences are either HTC 10 or Google Pixel. Would wait for reviews if the Pixel. Verizon currently offers $300 credit if I trade the G4 in for either of these.

I would go for a Pixel. G4 is great phone but Pixel is the only phone I would trade me G4 for

Can't say. There are people who've had problems with refurbs just months after. A better option is if they replace the motherboard with new instead of refurb. serial would start with 6 in that case.
Do you have the option to ask for that instead? ie send it back in again and have them put a new board in. More reliable than a refurb.

I'd have a backup phone at all times, just good practice. problems can happen any time, you could lose it or have it stolen.

I do not think Verizon would be willing to replace the unit again unless it fails. Since I purchased the unit at its release in June 2015, technically the warranty had expired when the bootloop happened last week. For US customers I believe the policy is for Verizon to replace devices due to the defect even beyond warranty period. Also, I asked and was told the warranty on the replacement device is 12 months. My latest idea is to play lots of demanding games like Riptide GP and Real Racing 3 to stress test it. Perhaps this will reveal if the hardware is faulty. If the replacement device bootloops I plan to ask Verizon for a different device.
Keeping a spare Android phone around is something I had not considered before. Too bad, wife switched to iPhone recently and we sold her old HTC one M8. I should have kept that one.
I'm in the same situation. Although mine hasn't bootlooped yet. It has randomly rebooted at least twice in the past three days since doing a software update where the phone got very hot. I just want it fixed or replaced before it starts bootlooping.
I'm considering calling Verizon and asking them if they can replace the phone with something else with no charge to me. I'm pretty sure that they can give me a refurbished G4. But there's no guarantee that it won't experience the same problem.
If I go through Lg, it could take up to a week and half and I really can't go that long without a phone. LG told me to go to my carrier and ask for a loaner phone while I send this one in to have the main board replaced.
I'm pretty confident that LG will fix it, but Verizon I'm not so sure about.
I also bought this phone on Swappa brand new. I also don't have any insurance on it. These two reason alone don't give me much hope that Verizon is going to help me. And also because I'm paying payments to them and it's not the original phone that I started the payments on.

So an update.
I called Verizon and they ran diagnostics on my phone over the phone. They said my battery temp seemed slightly high. They gave me instructions on how to diagnose it further.
First they said to reboot into safe mode. Basically you hold down the power button, then long press power off. Then you get a pop up to boot into safe mode. This is so you can rule out any third party apps causing the issues. This limits you to use only the apps that came installed on it. I thought to myself, how in the world am I going to be able to use this phone enough to replicate it rebooting. Sure enough when I went to charge the phone, I opened up chrome to browse around all while listening to music and it rebooted by itself. So that rules out any apps causing it. So the next step is to take it into a Verizon location, not a retail store, and they can give me a warranty replacement. The reason they told me to try it in safe mode was if they replaced it and there wasn't anything wrong with the hardware, they would charge me. This way they can replace it for free.
The guy that I talked to was super helpful and understanding. It was the best service I've ever received from them. I was even behind in my payments, and he didn't even pressure me into making a payment.
I also asked if it would be possible to get my phone replaced with something different. He said if they replace my G4 twice, then they would more than likely be able to get me into a different phone. I told him I totally understood and that I wasn't just trying to get a new phone. I shared with him my apprehension in getting another G4 because it's likely to happen again.
So, once I'm able to make a payment to get my bill current, I'll be heading into a Verizon location and hopefully be walking out with a replacement G4.
And I was worried that they wouldn't even work with me because I didn't buy my phone from them or another big retailer.
Just thought I'd share my experience in case anyone is interested in knowing what the options are.

I can't speak for the replacement G4s but I will say that I sent mine (Verizon version) in to LG about 6 or 7 months ago and they did the motherboard swap (or however they fix the boot loop) and I've had no issues with it since. Getting it fixed was free as well since LG had fully acknowledged there was a hardware problem.
Mine bootlooped two days ago and I went to a Verizon store and they ordered a warranty replacement that I received the very next day. It's working great so far. The phone looks brand new. They just sent me the phone. No battery, back cover or charger. But it seems like performance is quicker and battery life seems to be better and more consistent.
