I'm on Slim (+Franco) at the moment. But, it's getting slow and buggy. So, what ROM would you recommend?
For me, the priority is battery life. Plus, it should be relatively stable since the phone will be used as a daily driver. It would be great if the lag could be reduced as well. In terms of usage, I mainly just use calls, texts, a bit of browsing and some Google Maps (directions) from time to time. So, nothing intensive like gaming. What ROM would work best?

Hi guys. I bought a Xperia Arc (LT15i) last year, SIM-Unlocked, T-mobile branded and lots of bloatware.The experience so far couldn't be better. I love the UI and the camera is great. Since the very beginning it has being laggy, but it was bearable. Recently I updated to ICS hoping I would get a bit faster. At the beginning it was nice, but now it crashes a lot, and I can hardly avoid throwing it to a wall. Moreover battery lasts 8 hours with hardly use, which is very annoying as I have to go everywhere with cables and chargers (not sure if the battery is actually working well. I haven't tested it or used a brand new one).
I would like to flash a good and stable rom, if possible with JB. Which one would you recommend. I unlocked once the bootloader, but I didn't really want a custom rom at the moment, but the ICS stock one, so I relocked in order to get it. Not sure if that was the best thing to do, but it was running at quite a decent speed. Now it is very very laggy (even doing trivial things such as searching a contact!!!), and when I got my sony smartwatch, the battery drain was overwhelming.
I want something smooth, a custom ROM would be very welcomed. I read about Jelly Sandwich. Seems really nice, but since I don't want have the time to read all the posts, can anybody tell me if there's any problem connecting to the smartwatch in a custom ROM? Also, some comments regarding performance and battery drain on such ROM would be very much appreciated.
I don't have any game installed, since the available storage is very limited (I have like 39 mb left). I use mail a lot, chat applications (such as whatsapp, IMO, talk, etc.), facebook and twitter.
I really want to get the most out of it before I buy myself another phone (Xperia V, maybe?).

I recomend you X Gamer or another GB Rom as Arconium 8.2, because JB and ICS will make your device slower cause they need more resources to run ok. If you want smoothness my recomendation is to use X-Gamer Rom from OmenHTX. Im using it right now and its go flashy

If u want to use your devices faster, your battery life time may lower. So, trying a custom rom which developer claimed how much fast their rom, sure the battery will drain faster. If u want to use battery longer, your phone performance will also slower. So try using the stock rom is the best as the sony developer team balanced all the properties. I would like to recommend you one thing is to use app like Advance Task Killer (for fast performance & battery lift) and Link2SD (for storage performance problem). And also Rom Toolbox Pro app. With this app, you can stop unwanted app from auto running. This can greatly reduce memory usage.

Since there are similar threads in other forums around here, let's try this here. Since we now have a selection of alternative ROMs available, I do wonder which one offers the best battery life.
Stock didn't make me too unhappy in that department. Never measured it but it didn't seem too shabby. Yet as long as Sammy's stock is what it is - making an otherwise fantastic device feel slow and laggy - it's out of the question to return to it.
Running CM11 now. Makes me very happy as a whole but battery life is lacking. Getting around four hours of screen time with brightness set to the lower third of the scale. Also, I recently switched from Chrome to Firefox on all my computers including Android devices. On the 8.4 it burns through the battery like there's no tomorrow, often using more than 25 per cent. It doesn't on my other Androids.
Any experiences with Carbon, Clean or any of the de-crapwared stock ROMs?
You can just try them for yourself and see which one suits your needs.

What Custom Rom you guys think its best for Battery Life and Stability?
I've been using CM11 for the last few months and now im Trying Omnirom. They are both stable and use the same battery.
I cannot try every rom, so im asking here for your opinion.
I very much doubt battery life would be any different because of ROM version.
It has more to do with individual usage patterns
&
BT On/active/streaming
Brightness level/Auto
Data On/updates/push services
Calls talk time
Text/chat apps
Wi-Fi/Hotspot on/active
I'd say if your getting nearly 2h's of screen on time then the ROM is just fine.
There may be others getting more, but it all depends on how you use your device.
I don't mind charging my phone 2-3 times throughout the day(to help keep it topped up), I don't use Wi-Fi since I have unlimited data, unless it's for a large occasional download (testing new ROM/apps) have auto app updates and push services on) and leave BT on to automatically connect to my car stereo and start streaming music and also always leave auto brightness on.
Personally, I have tried lot's of different Custom Roms, and to be honest, none of them are as good as Stock 4.3 in terms of battery life and stability. Yes, other ROMs offer additional features and Android Versions that would otherwise be unavailable, but are mostly less stable, more laggy and have worse battery life. If you want customisation, you can root and use Xposed Framework.
That said!.. the best custom ROM that I have used is both FML Kitkat and FML Lollipop by MWisBest.

Recently I went back to 4.2.2 (Verizon) because no roms I could find had decent battery life. I started using greenify to help with memory, as I find that soon as it gets to about 100mb free, the lag is terrible.
So in your opinion FML Kitkat vs stock on battery is worse? I briefly tried FML Lolipop but felt it was too early in dev and buggy

Yeah, I've always found that stock Jelly Bean has the best battery life. But your experiences may vary with usage.
I have used CM11, PA, Shiny ROM and FML so far. I cannot compare them to stock, since I haven't used stock due to lack of customization features.
IMO, Shiny ROM + Dirty V Kernel with Nephilim's settings had the best battery life. On standby, my phone ran for more than 2 days without a single charge. Performance was decent, although I wouldn't say that it was ideal.
I'm currently running on the latest FML Lollipop + Smitty L Kernel with Nephilim's settings. The battery life is decent, with about a day and a half standby time. Performance is fantastic. If you value both battery life AND performance, you might as well give this a try, as it is definitely worth the effort.

so I have been running nAOSPROM (most recently b24) for about two months now. And I reluctantly switched back to the latest stock firmware. Reason being that, while battery life with screen off was amazing with the LP roms, it was horrible when I was actually using the phone for surfing or light app usage (no games). I swear I could watch the battery go down in steps of 2 and 3 percent as soon as the screen was on. With stock firmware I feel that the phone actually allows being used.
And now I'm in a bit of a pickle. Because having seen what my beloved XS can do on Lollipop, I really want to keep that experience. On the other hand it's no good to me if I have to carry around a backup battery charger just out of fear the battery will break down in the middle of the day if I use the device too much. Also I have seen that the XS can do everything I expect from my phone, I really want to avoid buying a new phone just for battery life.
I am now asking for your experience that is certainly further reaching than mine: Is this something that can or will get better? I.e., is it natural due to the increased complexity of Lollipop, or is it something that can be remedied by optimized builds, optimized CPU governors or similar? Or even has already gotten better with Chroma (which claims battery optimization but I haven't gotten around to trying yet)?

Alright, to answer to myself, maybe it will help others in the same situation:
Going back to the stock ROM was not an option anymore. It installed fine alright, but obviously even light use of contemporary apps (Google Maps, Facebook) brings it to a screeching halt. I've had multiple occasions when I would exit an app, and the stock launcher would groaningly launch all over again, bringing up widgets one by one. On a completely fresh factory install. So, no, besides JB being horribly outdated if you had LP in hands, it is just not viable anymore.
Now I'm running Chroma and I must say, as impressed as I was with nAOSPROM, I like Chroma more. If you go by perception alone, nAOSPROM runs a little "smoother", it feels a little zippier and more fluid. However, I can't shake the feeling that it comes at a steep price, and that Chroma is much easier on the battery, especially in active app use which is backed up by my battery stats. Asides from probably a few days with screen off, I get between 4 and 6 hours of active app use out of the system, which is perfectly fine for my needs -- I didn't keep logfiles of nAOSPROM, but it seemed considerably shorter. Also, having already only flashed the Pico gapps, I feel right at home with the minimalistic installation of Chroma. So for the time being, I'll stick with that one.
The only thing I actually miss from the stock ROM is its snappy, lightweight stock camera that starts quite a lot faster than anything on an AOSP ROM. But, eh, if that's the price to pay, I'll happily accept it.

I guess that all depends on what your previous phone is.
My previous phone was Samsung galaxy ace 2, so getting an HTC M9 is definitely a good upgrade. Performance, multitasking and pretty good camera. Mind you that it's not the best in its class but considering where I came from, it's really good.
As of software development, in terms of official support, we might get Oreo (still uncertain), but nougat is on the table.
Since there is no official support anymore most sense based custom rom developers are already hinting that there might not be any more updates. That leaves with aosp/los based custom rom, that sometimes have hiccups, and currently a bit slow in progressing.
Other than that it's quite a decent phone. I'm currently using Viperone 6.2.0 (Nougat) and it satisfies my need quite well.

Well, if that's the criteria, any rootable phone should do it.
Xposed would enhance it further with minminguard.
Never had any issues with ads on every phone of mine with that config.

long pauses after a pic is taken is frustrating

Well, the camera is decent enough, and fast enough for me. HDR is a bit slow, but most of the time it's good to take good images. Without hdr, it's really fast and not that bad.
I haven't used an iPhone thoroughly before though, so I can't really compare.
See the attached pictures from some of my shots with this phone. This is from sense-based custom roms. Aosp based custom roms is a bit worse, especially in dark conditions.
Battery life is only average on this phone. Most of the time it could last me the day on normal usage.
For exclusively YouTube, it should last 3-4 hours.
See my screenshot of battery usage, around 1 hour it drops 20%, and I was watching YouTube the whole time.
