Does anyone know of a case that has a physical door/shutter for the camera? I want a case that allows me to manually open and close the camera port with a slider or something. I think always having the camera lens open with no protection and no privacy is seriously not a good/smart idea. With the phones living in our pocket and always around us, countless things scratch the camera lens; not to mention all the concerns about someone hacking the phone and the nsa just watching our cameras feeds like they are a tv.

don't think you really have to worry about it becoming scratched too easily, 1:50 mark

It's probably just a bad photoshop but the T959/Vibrant doesn't have one.

No camera, but you do bring up a good point that it covers the little light sensor or whatever that thing is on the front...

Not only does it appear to cover the light sensor on the front, but the back of the case also appears to be covering the speaker. I picked up the Tmo case in store and really like it.
I am waiting for this one:

can you describe the one that you got at the tmobile store? is it a hard case or just the silicone one? how much was it?
im going to stop by the tmobile store today to look for a hard case and screen protectors. although people in the screen protector thread said the screen protectors from tmobile sucked. any suggustions that dont require me putting water on my phone like the clearfreak screen protectors?
btw, i am looking for something like posted above, but dont want to wait till mid august

There is a light sensor and a proximity sensor in front. Might be another one. I see 3 small dots on the front.
I've heard you're better off covering the front facing camera, at least it keeps you from thinking you can actually use the thing. (I don't have one, but I've heard in several places it's pretty much worthless).
The FFC is near worthless without Fring/Skype. You can chat with QIK but that's about it, the other stuff is worthless. So much for it taking over.
Does anyone know if the Face Unlock feature will suffice for an exchange security measure? My exchange server policy requires me to have a pin unlock and I cannot substitute a pattern unlock.
Thoughts?
nothing is more unique then ones face......
No. It even warns you that it's low-security and experimental. Could possibly be fooled by holding up a photo.

Fail. It works via 3D contour and infrared signature of the face.
A photo has no 3D contour.
The face of a dead Gaddafi wouldn't work either, as a thermal image of a dead person is blue, rather than red.
If you're suffering from a cold, your cephalo infrared signature would still be roughly the same.
atleast i hope you stil can get a backup/second option to unlock your phone if the face unlock doesnt respond

You do! There is a standard PIN/Pattern unlock, when the light conditions are too bad for the Face Unlock to work.
( and you can activate it simply by holding your finger over the camera )

Thats what im wondering. I wouldve rather them skip infrared sensor and added 32gig storage or sd slot if thats the case.
I voided my warranty and your nexus.

The worst thing that can happen to you if someone FORCES you to put YOUR FACE in front of the camera. Just... the worst thing.

It's Google... they'd find a way.
From http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/hands-on-ice-cream-sandwich-review-1036402 -
Google admits a really large, high res photo of the person could feasibly unlock your phone, but it says it has put huge amounts of time into making sure this is really difficult to achieve.

So it's a neat feature, but not super secure.

3d contour and IR imaging only exists in really expensive building security systems. My office building uses a vascular 3d IR image of my hand as a bio metric security system and those things are not cheap.
The more likely scenario is that the algorithm relies on micro movements with your face to give it a slightly 3dish signature that a photo cannot reproduce, and that a tv screen playing video would not have the rez to fool the cam.
I agree with those who think there is no IR sensor in the Nexus. And I also think this think could be fooled, but patterns can be figured out by trying and are really easy to recognize when someone enters them.
I consider face unlock as a feature of comfort, if it works reliable to unlock the phone without many failed trys.
@Thread opener
I think you will see soon enough wether you can use face unlock with exchange, I think this depends on the servers settings, not on Nexus.

@kanalcommander -- i think you're right...it comes down to the policy set by our exchange admin. in my case, they require a PIN unlock.
unfortunately, the PIN unlock takes all the sexiness out of unlocking your android. i might have to either
a) not set up my exchange account
b) use enhanced email or similar (based on the default email app, but removes the lock policy)

I think this is likely what they are doing. They could just track eye movement, human eyes are constantly making small movements so we could detect static objects, it'd be hard to achieve this with a picture.
You people are crazy, it's simple face recognition.
Eyes, mouth, nose, ear, and then distances between everything.
(which is why it can be fooled with a a picture.)
We will just have to wait and see.

Hi,
I've read in gsmarena that the camera has hardened glass, is that true?
I had a Galaxy S I and it was plastic, so it got scratched very easily. I don't like to wear any cases with my phone, but I wonder if, as the camera protrudes, I should take some extra care.
Thanks.
I am using it for 5 weeks now and I think I can say GSMArena is correct. I mean they are correct always but sometimes a review and real life experience differs. But I think they are right here, the first thing which usually scratches on my devices are the camera lens covers, but so far this one is pretty clean, no scratches and I don't care it that much well and I too don't like to put on any 'protective' stuffs.
My M8 was working fine a week back. Then suddenly I started noticing that my camera capture images in a diffuse glow/angelic glow mode. Whites become bright and look grainy. I can see that on my phone screen itself. The sharpness seems to have gone. The ISO is set to Auto, in fact all the settings are in Auto. Did not happen before.
What's wrong with the camera? The camera lens is clean too.
There is an OTA update available too. I thought updating may solve the issue, but everytime i try to install it says "downloading unsuccessful" "the download package is corrupt"
All you pretty and genius people out there, a noob needs help.
My phone is completely stock. Did not root or anything.
Check your camera lenses if there are any scratches on it. It means the lenses coating is coming off.
Too many minute scratches/ hope it's the coating

Now that you mention it, yes there is. Quite a whole lot. I use Dot view case, it has some height, I wonder how they still got scratched.
I read about the solution for this, it says the coating gets scratched quite easily, use of toothpaste or any other method mentioned will remove the coating and the camera will get to it's original state.
I am skeptical about doing that. If i remove the coating, won't it be really scary if the original lens also gets scratched?
What do I do?
Thank you in advance
Same is happening with me. Pictures started looking grainy. I tried the toothpaste method but it didn't help. Now I regret why the hell did I spend so much to get such a crapy phone. My phone is always covered in Unicorn beetle case. Still the camera lens seems to be hell lot scratched.
Worked

I think you should give it a try. The toothpaste method.
Take a Q tip and rub the toothpaste on it. Have patience, so it for good 5-8 minutes and make sure you are applying good amount of pressure.
Then you could do the same using Surgical Spirit instead of toothpaste for another good 5 minutes. That should do it.
Anyone is having this issue?
http://phandroid.com/2016/10/25/google-pixel-camera-lens-defect-flare-glare-halo/
Yup, I'm having this problem.
Although, to be honest, from all the research I've done and now reading that article I feel that this must probably be a design flaw. It is odd though, with Google advertising this is the best camera and all... This is the only phone I've ever owned where this halo effect has been so easy to replicate; heck, I've actually never seen this problem on any of my previous phones (and that's why I got so worried at first)
Google will probably quietly tweak the Pixel's design to fix this in later units (or so I hope) and if that's the case all Pixels (from the Google Store at least) have a year warranty so I'll just RMA it once that happens.
EDIT: Looks like they're fixing it with software
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixe...googler_on_halo_effect_can_be_mitigated_with/
Me as well. Had a google support case open. After jumping through hoops with him I ran into several threads around the web with others having the same issue. Not sure this one can be fixed.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixe...googler_on_halo_effect_can_be_mitigated_with/
I think this has to do with the placement of the lens. If you look carefully, you can see how there's a small gap between the actual lens and the glass cover. This gap causes light to hit the edges, and since it's glass, it reflects back into the camera lens. If you compare it to the flashlight or other phone cameras, you can see how their lenses usually have their own compartment (or package) that peaks out through the case OR that they're completely aligned with the case.

I love how all the comments are "wow! amazing! really quick response! they're going to release a software fix soon! Apple wouldn't do that! we love you google" and there's a follow up post four months later saying "er...still not fixed yet"!
It's a design fault. They're letting light in because the camera wasn't designed properly. A software fix will only make a little difference. Whenever you read about how good the pixel's camera is (it should be - the phone costs nearly £1000) remember that it has a design fault that can't be fixed.
I am having issue but putting a case on phone solves it no flares now,
I'm using spigen rugged armour case ?
