[FIXED!] DPI stuck at 400 - How to reset or change value? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone. I do not like the default DPI of the OP3. I'd like to change it with no issues, but so far my experience has been frustrating.
Changed DPI to 400 via build.prop edit. Resulted in camera issues (back-camera photos resulted in solid green images, Snapchat video would lockup phone.). Could not reset DPI or change to any other value. Had to reflash OOS 3.1.3 to fix.
Did some research. Heard a OP3 toolkit here on xda could change DPI without issue (I believe it just uses the adb method) . Used it to change to 400. Camera is fine, but I experience wonky icon sizing issues with widgets, icons on notification banners and Play Store, twitter photo previews/thumbnails are corrupt, and a few other little text size issues. Tried using the toolkit to return to default DPI but it simply doesn't change anything.
I then heard good things about Le DPI Changer so I tried it but it is unable to make any change.
Flashed OOS 3.2.1 but DPI is still stuck at 400.
So it looks like:
build.prop edit breaks camera.
adb method breaks random icon sizing, twitter thumbnails, etc.
cannot reset to default value or change at all.
Is it possible to change the DPI with NO issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
**EDIT: Seems to be solved!
k.s.deviate said:
After I changed my DPI I ended up flashing 3.2.1 over again (dirty) to revert other changes I didn't like, my DPI however didn't change (strangely) and the build.prop line wasn't there.. so I re added it with the modded number and rebooted. Then deleted it, rebooted and everything went back to normal.

 I think all is fixed! What I did:
Removed line from build.prop.
Wipe dalvik/cache.
REflashed full 3.2.1 ROM.
Wipe dalvik/cache.
Flashed SuperSU.
Wipe dalvik/cache.
Flashed Xposed.
Wipe dalvik/cache.
Reboot.
Added ro.sf.lcd_density=400 to build.prop.
Reboot.
Now icons are are correct size in Play Store, banners. Twitter thumbnails are not corrupt. Widget icons are correct size. AND camera works! Thanks so much!
I will report back is there are any lingering issues.
**EDIT 2: Unfortunately, after updating to 3.2.2, and following the same steps, I have the broken camera/green photos issue again. This is ridiculous.

I read that adb method breaks things, did you use "adb wm density"? Oh, and i recommend the using of 440DPI! It's working for me on OOS 3.1.x-3.2.x - CM13. If adb isn't working, try to use Terminal emulator with the same command, or use TWRP Terminal emulator. If you can't change that, try factory reset (wipe everything except your Internal Storage, flash rom etc.) and check if the problem solved or not. Hope i helped

This does not work.
Neither does the Shell VM method in the app.

Your DPI is stuck at 400 even after reflashing 3.2.1?
Try adding the build.prop line again with the 400 value. Reboot, then change it to whatever you want. And again 440 is perfect.

I have not REflashed 3.2.1, only flashed it as an update from 3.1.3. Do you think REflashing it would make a difference?
I'll try your second suggestion now.
**EDIT: The second suggestion didn't work. Will reflash 3.2.1 in the morning. Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I'll have to try some variations of reflashing, etc tomorrow.
I have a feeling that flashing 3.1.3 resets DPI, but 3.2.1 doesn't.

If you flash the Ota it doesn't, the full rom will.
I just added ro.sf.lcd_density=420 at the end of build.prop. No issues at all.

[work around] How to get skygo working on rooted ICS roms

This is a work around which will enable you to watch skygo on rooted ICS roms, this is not a perfect solution but if you don’t want to miss the F1 or whatever, it’ll do.
1. Download this tweaked skygo app http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10514900/skygo_test_0.1.2.apk
2. Find your original kernel on intratech’s thread
3. Extract the kernel.7z file you just downloaded until you get the zimage
4. Copy the zimage onto your sd card
5. Open cwm manager, select 'flash kernel' and then select the zimage you just extracted
6. Use temp root remover to hide root
7. Install the skygo app, and you should be able to watch any channel.
If the app hangs on loading 0% ……. 0/100 try clearing app cache and data. If that doesn’t work uninstall skygo and reinstall it and it will work.
You might want to back up your old kernel/zimage before you start so you can easily restore your old kernel.
Like I said it’s not pretty but it works.
Thanks man,
I know there's a sky go thread with well over 500 pages, couldn't be bothered keeping track of it, I'm on stock kernel anyway(LP7) so I just use the 'fixed' app and voodoo unroot. Works a charm.

Press back & reload it again or alternatively wait for about 30 seconds to a minute & it'll clear up.
If not your connection is shabby.
i'm using build 0.1.5 from the big sky go post on here with wanam.stock.LP7, LP7 stock kernel & rootkeeper works a charm.
I can only get Sky News to work using the standard ICS build & unroot, I have cleared the cache & re-installed the app, not working.
Any further ideas ?

I updated my kernel from Intratech's list & it works fine - I don't remember installing a custom kernel, maybe I did.
Very simple solution, thanks.
1) Thanks for kanging my workaround from the other topic
2) you no longer need to use a pure stock kernel, you can use any kernel that has ro.secure=1
e.g. Siyah Kernel or CF-Root (both of these kernels have had adb hacked too so you don't lose out by having ro.secure=1)
I'm guessing you have to have a subscription?? Lol

no, cm9 has another issue that I am failing to diagnose, no idea what the problem is but I can't work it out no matter how many hours I spent looking at logs.
This sky go modified app, works on my Galaxy S2 with android ICS 4.0.3 - never ever rooted and no custom ROM.

Try some different kernels. I couldn't get it to work with CF or Neak. Tried speedmod and it works fine with temp unroot.
EDIT: It was working fine yesterday but stays on the loading screen today!
EDIT 2: Ok, I've got it working again. I believe the problem was superuser. One of the versions of Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper required superuser to be installed (as opposed to supersu) and I believe when I uninstalled superuser again it left some traces which Voodoo wasn't hiding and skygo was seeing. I've done a full wipe and installed a fresh copy of Omega rom, then speedmod kernel, then restored everything with Titanium back up and its working again. Which is good since I've got 3 months of free Sky!
I noticed there is a new update for Sky Go and was wondering if anyone has "fixed" the new apk to remove the version checking yet.
can someone post intratech’s link, I cannot find it after I searched the forum?

[MOD]Get rid of carrier label

Got tired of that big AT&T label on my statusbar.
Download to sdcard and use the 2nd init recovery to reboot into recovery, then apply and reboot. I used madmack's qslide flashable as a base so it should work fine. I personally just use root explorer and move apks directly because I dont use this recovery.
Should work on odexed or deodexed LG Optimus G Pro ROMs.

You're welcome . Apparently, they've gone and given it their own naming scheme.
If you look in the zip, it looks like it's simply swapping out the status_bar.xml within the res/layout/ of LGSystemUI.apk. It's been a while since I've done any xml edits for system apps, but you might be able to simply insert that modified xml into the existing apk. Might also be wise to save a backup of the original.

thanks, that's the one i used as well, i flashed it and then downloaded the twrp manager app from the play store to access it. the problem seems to be with this, when i go to flash the zip, the app tries to flash but it then goes back to the main twrp interface, it hangs there for several minutes, the screen goes dark, i hit the power button and the screen comes on but stuck on the twrp lock screen and the swiper does not work. i have to do a long press on the power button to get the phone to restart.
i'll either have to ask about this in the twrp thread, drop the attempt all-together, or use the lg tool to reflash the stock rom and start over.

How are you testing this? Are you being prompted at all for root or is it automatically denying root? Root does work differently in 4.3 then it has worked in the past so some rooted apps may act differently as well. The real question is are you getting prompted for root access when you open these apps and do you have a root shell in ADB?

Well, then perhaps TricksterMod needs updating. It reports that the phone is not rooted, and then closes.
And that goes for Fast Charge (a toggle app), too. What root apps are confirmed to be WORKING?

Interesting... I just downloaded trickster and I did get a root prompt. Check your settings under "superuser" and see if it is allowed for apps. Also, did you download any third party SU app?
I am currently compiling a new rom now to see if that might help you...

[Flashable Zip] [N7 Wifi only] [KRT16S] Translucent lockscreen bars for 4.4

Hi!
I noticed that the N7 2012 doesn't have the new translucent status & bottom bar on the lock screen.
Nobody seems to have created a zip for the N7, though the N4 has had some love.
I have it working for me, so I thought I'd share.
Please don't use this zip on the N7 3G.
KRT16S Version (Latest)
Code:
Flash this from recovery for your translucent bars:
[url]https://db.tt/DtUygIHb[/url]
Flash this to restore to original in case of bootloops:
[url]https://db.tt/TxfTykJj[/url]
KRT16O Version (old)
Code:
Flash this from recovery for your translucent bars:
[url]https://db.tt/lon9dKd3[/url]
Flash this to restore to original in case of bootloops:
[url]https://db.tt/vClhQlsx[/url]
If Dropbox kills the links for some reason, please drop me a pm.
You shouldn't need to clear cache, but try it if you get a bootloop.
Credits
Hardly any of this is my work, I merely unpacked, edited and packed again.
Thank you to Floydfire for creating this for the N4, and heavily inspiring even my thread title: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527525
Thanks very much to Quinny899 for an extremely useful guide that got me most of the way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2510410
Thanks to Flextrick for making Android Multitool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326604
And last but not least, the devs of apktool.
Cheers, and hope you are enjoying KitKat!
Bro I think there's something wrong with the zip..

The "framework" folder should be inside a "system" folder, while it's not. I'll try editing the zip and see if it works, but flashing it like this might be dangerous..
EDIT:I just looked at the updater-script, now I understand.. BTW, does it need a deodexed ROM?

Works great on stock rooted rom installed via flashable zip from the general section!

works great, thanks for sharing
Thanks a lot, I tried to follow Quinny's guide as well but always got caught in bootloops (I have plenty of errors when compiling again, probably has sth to do with apktool).
Got a little frustrated when I saw your zip worked though
Thanks again
Thanks for sharing your work.
FYI if you install Googlehome.apk you'll get transparent status and navbar, as well as the new folder and wallpapers.

I'd just recently used the N7 4.4 factory image and tested with that, so just stock is fine.

I had a frustrating half hour sorting this, during which I could see that the transparency had worked, but it started to bootloop within a minute of hitting the lock screen.
If you want to have another go, try Android Multitool (linked in OP), but don't sign it in that, or with zipsigner. Copy the meta-inf and manifest back from the original apk, instead of signing.
Doing it manually, you may need to place the apk in /system/, then set permissions (0644), then move to /system/framework/

Yup, that or the current Nova Launcher Beta (my personal preference).
Glad it is working for everyone and you are all welcome!
I wanted transparent navi and notification bars so bad but the stock and GEL wont do it (people say it does but it wont) so i installed nova launcher beta and it worked without any mod now i just flashed this mod. nova still working stock still black bars and dont have GEL to check it but i think it will work
Thank you.
Factory image rooted works fine.

Yeap, afraid so - maybe keep the original on your device for easy flashing?
I'll be looking forward to Xposed being updating for 4.4 to avoid this in the future

Thanks for the tip, I just tried your way with new KRT16S build, and it worked (even though MultiTool gave me some aapt warnings). :good:

what kind of Bluetooth bug?
and please share the link
Doesn't seem to be RN8 from the screenshots, unless build.prop is edited or something for the ROM to work.

Installed. Some problems that I noticed early on:
Mobile data doesn't work for me, I'm in Brazil;
Notch is huge, just like the OnePlus, it is not adapted from the RN8;
Gapps don't work, I can't log into my Google account, crash apps, etc;
I cannot access my internal storage from the computer;
Crashes and lags in transitions.
But it's a great start, will you continue to update and improve?
Looking forward to seeing stable.

Ok, I will install soon and follow the procedures. What would be "GM's.apk" and where can I find it?
Will some of these fixes fix access to storage via PC?
Chips kernel it's compatible?
Sorry for the question, but will the updates be frequent? Will you create a topic to post new updates or will you do it?
Thanks in advance.
