Contact vodafone for an unlock code or contact the ebay guy in the main sticky who you can get the same code off of (in minutes usually) for a small price

This. I have the same problem (different country and carrier). I put in a different SIM and no place for me to add an unlock code (if I get one).
depends on where you are going to and what you will be using the most.
i use VF passport and euro data, keeps costs down quite a bit although if you are going to be hammering the data then a 'local' sim card might be best
can you not just get a 'local' vf sim for where you are travelling to? it might work

yes ,im pretty sure abt that,
and im going to china where the vodafone passport does not cover,so i have to get a local one to save cost
I haven't bothered asking my carrier because I'm not even prompted for a code when adding a different SIM. I wouldn't know what to do with it if I had it.

mine asked me when i put a new sim in but the instructions from the guy slelling the codes suggested the following in his email
"To unlock your phone, please put a SIM card from another network that not same as your phone locked to, then input the unlock code above. You might need to disable or input your simcard's PIN first before entering the unlock code.
You can also try dialing #7465625*638*# and then input the unlock code."

this is what it says regarding the NUC
We’ll supply a Network Unlock Code (NUC) for you if you've bought a phone from us on either pay monthly or pay as you go. An NUC allows you to use non-Vodafone SIM cards with your Vodafone phone. If the unlock code is held in our systems, you’ll receive the unlock code and instructions by email within 24 hours. If the unlock code isn’t held by us, you’ll get an email confirming your request has been received - and that the turnaround time is 48 hours for all makes except Samsung, which is 7-10 working days.
You can only get unlock codes for the numbers on your account. If you have two mobile numbers on your account, then you can get two free unlock codes. There’s usually no charge for these network unlock codes.
Most pay monthly phones and devices are not network locked. Before requesting a network unlock code, please try a non-Vodafone SIM card and check for error messages.
so if you have a different sim lying about or a friend on a different network give it a try i would give it a go but all my work sims went back to the office for christmas

no ,im in ireland
google brand-animation-loading apps-go to lock screen says "emergency calls only"at the bottom-after unlock the screen it goes to homescreen-when i trying to make a phone call ,it says mobile network not available
my GN says 'emergency calls' until its unlocked then it goes to the homescreen.
when you unlock the phone does it display any sort of signal strength or not?
there might be something odd with using a chinese sim card in ireland, can you try a sim card from one of the other Irish operators?

Hi Guys,
So I've searched and can't find anything on this. I am going overseas and T-Mobile has given me an unlock code. But every time I put it in I would get "unlock request unsuccessful." I've called them four times and they don't seem to know what they are doing and just tells me they will escalate the ticket. I have tried the code two or three times. I was just wondering how many times can I try it? I've heard that it can permanently lock my phone. Thanks in advance.
First of, are u using a different carrier simcard before inputting the code?

At first I tried dialing #7465625*638*# and then putting in the code but that didn't work. I had a SIM from oversea so I tried that and it didn't ask for an unlock code. It just says invalid SIM. My friend has a Verizon S3 which has a SIM so I tried his SIM and it says invalid SIM also. I don't have any other SIM to try and I'm worried that I'll get oversea and it'll do the same thing with another one of their SIM.

Ok, coz most of the time people doesnt know that you have to use a diff simcard. Have you check to make sure the imei number that tmo had in file matches the one on your phone?

Yea, every time I called them I give them my IMEI and they read it back to me correctly. The email they sent me that has the unlock code has my number and my IMEI and it's all correct. I'm not sure what else to try. I thought about just going through cellunlocker.net but what if they give me the same unlock code as T-Mobile? Does the non-carrier SIM card have to be active and in service? I was thinking that the guy at Verizon told my friend that his SIM was only used for 4g data and the foreign SIM I have wouldn't have any service here. Maybe that's why it's not popping up with the unlock code screen?
I forgot to mention that my phone is rooted. Would that have any affect? Would it be a good idea to flash the phone back to stock and try to unlock?

I went to the T-Mobile store and the guy told me he has never done an unlock before and he doesn't know what to do. He told me I should call T-Mobile again. I will be oversea for about two years so I was just hoping to be able to keep this phone since I've only had it for a couple of months. But I guess if it won't unlock then I'll just have to get a new phone. Anyway, thanks for the all the input guys.

Is a direct unlock the same thing as what they are doing with Sprint and Verizon with the nv_data.bin? I was going to do that and then I saw that T-Mobile doesn't have the nv_data file for some reason.

Do you have the i747 or t999? Was the code entered using a custom ROM?
You've probably found your way here because you're trying to use an unlock code that you got from AT&T or an EBay seller, but the phone is refusing to take it, despite your triple-checking of details.
The workaround is this: Enter the incorrect code until you run out of your ten (10) attempts. Then you'll get the *real* network unlock message, with 32 attempts. Enter the same 8-digit code you've been entering, and voila, you're now free to use this on any network!
Attached is a video showing proof of unlocking using this method (sorry for the blurriness and quick cut at the end--was too excited that this unlocking ordeal is over):

Thanks!!! It worked for me. I was nervous, but I figured the worst case is I return the phone.

Thank you - this worked perfectly for me. Used up all my initial attempts, and the phone immediately said "32 attempts remaining". Then got it on the first try with the ATT provided code.
What if I can't even receive any code from AT&T or third-party? (they say the unlock code for my phone's imei number is not their system) Would it work with any 8 digit number?
Here is my imei number: 359746040748761 I've tried getting the code from AT&T and three different sellers on ebay, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Diego, it might be that your device was indeed blacklisted/was tied to a non-paying account. You'll need the specific 8-digit unlock code.
Got the unlock code from AT&T and kept saying "Incorrect PIN" so I did get scared. Once I saw this post, I bit the bullet and used up all my attempts until it finally asked for the PUK code. Put in the same unlock code one more time and it worked.
Verified with Smart micro-SIM card from the Philippines and works great.
Thanks!

Wouldn't AT&T let me know if it was blacklisted or tied to a non-paying account when I called them for the code? That may be the case though, since I bought it used from Ebay.
Thankyou!!

Worked for me also.. thanks alot... entered 10 times and then on the PUK screen..thanks heaps!
I got the phone from ebay. It was loaked to AT&T and after talking to the guys there I got the unlock code from them. I double thriple checked the unlock code and entered 4 times which indicated as incorrect pin. I'm not in USA, so no point of having a locked phone which could not be used here.
Please help.....
Finaly I've got my phone unlocked thanks to xda... I had already used 5 attempts but goving the fact that no point of keeping the phone locked which could not be used in my country, I've tried the balance attempts and then the phone asked for the PUK code. I've entered the same code..
It worked.... Thanks a lot.. I can assure you that, if you have got the code verified from AT&T and other third party places what they have given you is the PUK code..
It works...It works... I'm over the moon..

Okay here is my issue:
I tried unlocking without a non att sim card but whenever i put the code in i get "Connection problem or invalid mmi code"
Then i went to t-mobile and borrowed a sim card: i put the unlock code in and it says invalid, i triple checked the code and it isnt. Please help!

Hey where did you get the unlock code?
I unlock a lot of Galaxy S3's locked to various networks
I order my codes from cellunlocker
I had great satisfaction from them so I am referring them to you in case you need better codes
Also I run a business in unlocking as well so ask me and I can help you out too
To your issue, if you typed a code in (I.E. *#7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE#) It wont work on our devices, due to the chipset or modem
You gotta go the main route of inserting a NON accepted SIM card
In this case we gotta rely on correct UNLOCKING codes
And I am pretty sure cellunl ocker.net will provide that to you
Hope this helped

I just talked to AT&T the code they gave me is the same as the one I. Bought. Why isn't it working"
i would double check the imei number.
*#06# gives you the same as whats behind the battery and double check thats the imei number used to get your code.
freeze thing is bad... if you enter the wrong unlock code to many times you will need a unfreeze code from what i understand.
Hi I've been looking to xda for quite some time now for advice and help when I get stuck. First wanna say thank you! But I'm a new member so please correct me if I am posting in the wrong place or reposting. I'm aware that this is not a new problem, however, I have read till my eyes are bleeding and can't seem to find a fix. I have an sgh i747 AT&T gs3. I feel that this topic is unique in the fact that I have not rooted, flashed, altered or in any other way attempted to change this device. My fiance got the phone from her mom and I was going to try to use it with a straighttalk byop SIM kit. After activating the proper SIM with st the device would not recognize the SIM. I am now using that SIM in another phone. I get a constant ongoing notification in the notifications bar that says No SIM Insert SIM card. The device status is official and I have (as far as I know) stock ota updated 4.3 jellybean. When I insert a SIM into the device it doesn't prompt me to enter an unlock code. The only other SIM I tried to use is a sprint SIM card out of my freedompop lg volt. Don't know if that's compatible or not but I tried it and still the i747 acts as though it doesn't realize I've inserted a SIM. I called AT&T and emailed them. All I was able to give them was the imei as the phone number in my settings is unknown. The imei under my battery matches the imei in my device settings. They emailed me back within a few hours with my network unlock code and instructions for unlock. I haven't been able to use the code as my phone never prompts for the input of the code... I called them back later (this all happened earlier today) and spoke with a gentleman in tech support. I told him what was going on and asked him some questions. After doing a lot of research I started thinking that maybe my phone was already unlocked. Asked him to run the imei and said that it DID show unlocked on his end. That's one of my questions, if I still have an imei in my settings is this device still locked? The tech from AT&T told me it was probably the phone that was broke and I need a new SIM reader installed, to call Samsung. I tried to slide a little piece of paper in on top of the SIM that didn't work. I tried the dial code *#197328640# method, even though most posts say you must be 4.1.1 there are some who claim that it works on other versions. I tried a couple variations of this to no avail. I'm not sure what I'm overlooking here. If I'm leaving out any info that is needed to answer this post I'd be happy to include it just let me know. I need some fresh eyes on this thing it's driving me crazy I wanna get it fixed. I'm under the impression that I shouldn't attempt to downgrade this android version or I'll brick it... what the hecks goin on with this phone?! And again, sorry if I'm reposting but I can't find anyone who has posted yet that hasn't altered their device software in one way or another. I believe this s3 is completely official at this point. Thanks for any help you can offer
Is an sdcard recognized?
Was the phone ever used with a sim adapter? Sometimes, inserting and removing the sim adapter can damage the sim reader. Cheapest solution may be to purchase a new sim reader from eBay.
Sdcard works fine... and I'm pretty sure it's never been used with a SIM adapter
It's possible the sim reader has failed. Don't think you'll kn for sure until you are change the sim reader.
Yeeeah... I think I'm gonna attempt to change it right now and see what happens. I'll post back with the results. Thanks guys!
Fixed! Replaced sim port with spare one from an s3 sch I535 I had laying in the junk drawer with a broken LCD display. Posting this from my i747 on straight talk 4g. Sweet!
Glad it worked for you.
Yes and thank you again for responding to my post. This s3 is now rooted and titanium backed! Now excited to attempt to flash cyanogen mod later this evening. Thanks again and take care!
