Xiaomi was founded in 2010 by serial entrepreneur Lei Jun, who believes that high-quality technology doesn't need to cost a fortune. At Xiaomi, we've brought together smart people from Google, Kingsoft, Microsoft, Motorola, Yahoo, and other Internet and tech companies from around the world to bring that vision to life. We create remarkable hardware, software, and Internet services for – and with the help of – our Mi fans. We incorporate their feedback into our product range, which currently includes Mi 4, Mi 3, Mi Pad, Mi Box, Mi TV, Redmi 1S and Redmi Note, Mi Power Bank and other accessories. We sell direct to customers to keep our prices competitive. And with more than 18 million handsets sold in China in 2013 and products launched in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, India and Indonesia, we are ready to go global.

Xiaomi MI series vs. Xiaomi REDMI series = which line is better?
Everybody knows that Mi series goal is to be better than Redmi at least in specs and performance.
But how about performance to price ratio, how about all other things that You dont worry and dont expect in REDMI casue it's cheap but You do expect it in the MI series?
What are the problems/things that You don't like in MI series?
What are the problems/things that You don't like in REDMI series if there is any? WHY? Cause we all know not to expect wonders for a low budget priced phones.
I've talked to many people who had/have REDMI and MI series Xiaomi phones (clients, selllers, internet folks, friends) and they only agree on ONE thing -the price is great wheter it is REMI or MI phone.
A strange thing happens.... REDMI owners are always satisfied. The only thing that bothers not all of them is the camera quality.
But in low and middle price segment REDMI beats EVERY other BRAND.
Xiaomi has also great prices in the high end flagship models but here MANY PEOPLE are dissapointed.
For example camera quality, screen quiality, body, bezel, bugs, no NFC, no european B20 LTE band.
The MI users also tell me that non of the above bothers them but something totaly different. EACH person = an original problem with MI device.
Can You please tell me what are Your problems/dislikes with MI and REDMI devices cause I'm about to buy one from each segment?
What should I worry about (Android updates maybe?) buying a REDMI and a MI phone IN YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIANCE?
People who complain about camera quality on the MI Mix 2 are comparing it to flagships that cost significantly more--and that was before the price drop on the MI Mix 2. At this point flagship phones from Samsung, Apple and Huawei cost more than twice what a MI Mix 2 costs. If you are willing to spend $800-$1000 on a smart phone then you will certainly get a better camera. I don't expect a fantastic camera at this price point.

I'm sure the releasing Mi Mix 2S had something to do with that price. And BTW It should have equal cam quality like S9+ (DXoMark)

That psychological problem affects 90% phone users,
Redmi product line is ODM. The flagship models of MI/MIX are OEM.

If Mi/Mix are truly OEM, then who is the Client that provided Xiaomi the product design and specifications?
Hmm

In other word. MI/Mix are designed by xiaomi itself. Redmi is provided by a company called longcheer, even though xiaomi is holding much of it's share.

So in the long run (to receive updates for example as long as possible) it is better to buy a Mi rather than Redmi phone?
Hey guys, I'm planning to buy a new phone in the next few days and I've decided on the note 5. however, I've noticed that there are different variants of it( standard note 5 , note 5 pro , note 5 ai dual cameras) and I got confused, furthermore, I can't order it online (not available where I live) and I'd have to buy it from a retailer and most of them don't even know the difference between the variants (the one available here is probably note 5 ai dual camera) , so my questions are :
1- Is there a way to verify the variant before I buy it , like a code-name on the box or something ? ( also, if you can provide codenames for each variant, I'd be very happy :fingers-crossed: )
2- Since having custom software support is a deal breaker for me, which one of these variants has the best support here on xda
and if you can link each variant's forums, I'd be very grateful.
3- Will the device ever get official Android P ?
4- How good is the device in terms of performance ? ( Ui fluidity specifically and not games )
Thanks in advance !

1. codename is whyred. if you not in china or india get the one that says global version. the china ai and the global ai its the same only the china has less bands used in other countries. the one for india is for india country.
so name are different but is the same. example redmi note5 ai china/global same phone global has more bands.
redmi note5 pro is india's region same phone except front camera global/china has front 13 mpx. while india has 20 mpx. just make sure its redmi note5 global version with dual camera and front 13 mpx. whyred. the one with single camera codename is vince. or yet paste link here and will tell you.
2. support for roms is good lots of roms.. NOTE that global version and india redmi note5 pro both share the same rom and firmware. both global version and note5 pro share the forum this is the correct forum.
3. am new to xiaomi so it was released with oreo. so apparently all mid range phones in redmi only get 1 android update. so i assume we will get official android P.
4. to me its okey in 9.5 in miui 10 retunrning from recents to home it lags a bit.
Thank you very much ! this was very informative and it's exactly what I needed !
Redmi Note 8 Pro or Realme 5 Pro. Going to buy one of these very shortly.
1. Which one would you buy and why?
2. Which one offers best support /updates?
3.Which one would offer best second hand resale value in 12 to 18 months time? Thanks in advance!
Edit - RNP8 is 6/64gb while Realme is 8/128gb. I'm in Ireland but will probably buy from amazon Spain or Germany as its cheaper.
1) well it really depends on what exactly your uses will be. But the RN8Pro has nfc support, slightly bigger battery, higher camera megapixels both front and rear, they both have fingerprint sensor, RN8Pro comes with Gorilla Glass v5 vs the v3 realme comes with, but the Realme comes with a slightly higher display pixel density. I personally have never had a realme, but I used to have a RN3Pro and now have an RN8Pro and I am very satisfied.
2) again I've never had a realme so I cannot comment on the support/update aspect. The Realme does come with a snapdragon chipset so if you were ever unsatisfied with the stock rom you would have plenty of custom rom options. That being said if you are also looking into custom rom I have been told from the founder of posp that they will soon release an build for the RN8Pro being the first and only custom rom for the device.
3) both of these devices have a very low price. a year from now, and used would cost very little. So neither would get a high return if sold 12 to 18 months from now.
But overall in my opinion I would go for the RN8Pro.

exactly, that's why everybody should buy only android one phones from xiaomi, sadly they are getting trashy so A3 is my last xiaomi phone.
so, planning on buying new mobile. The choice was between mi11x and realme x7 max. i know for the fact realme wont be having custom development (mediatek) . So the choice was MI. I am not a heavy gamer or user, i play cod mobile and use some technical apps. until now i am using samsung j8 (sd450 chipset) and i play cod in it. not a bad experience. so i thouht mi 11 lite is more than enough. but i hate miui or any other. i am custom to one ui and stock. so if the mi 11 lite doestn't have custom development ..... sadly i have to pass. and one more does it has nfc ?
NFC is there.
As for custom roms, at the moment there are no developments ongoing for this model AFAIK, but the phone is brand new.
In my opinion the street price is still too high for this phone, so few people bought it and there is little community interest ATM, but things might change in the future.
