Just wanted to check with the other TMO Touch Pro 2 owners. Does anyone have issues with the "my location" feature in GoogleMaps? I constantly get your location is temporarily unavailable. It seems to be unable to triangulate radio towers, but is able to acquire location if I enable GPS. I have updated GoogleMaps and all but it's still unable to triangulate.
Loving the 3G so far!
Any ideas? Thanks.

Yikes! Really? The TMO rep gave me some BS that it was probably cause I had the old 19.99 total internet plan, and that I had to upgrade to the new $25.00 web2go plan or something, but I honestly don't think thats the problem..

Yea I know, with the GPS enabled, my location works, but with it disabled, it is unable to acquire through radio tower triangulation which was the old school way before gps came with phones..

alright, because the default one for the T-mobile Tp2 is a much older version. doesn't work very well at all.
and why do you want to use triangulation?

Well even though GPS is best..its not the most practical sometimes because it takes a while to locate you and it also eats battery power like crazy.
Triangulation can find your general area quickly and saves battery power too..
i get where your coming from now.
i cant find any option to use triangulation. but if you just do a quick search for a local cross street that will get you in the right general area. probably just as fast as well since we have this big awesome keyboard

I can confirm this issue as well. I have a grandfathered 5.99 tzones plan that I am using and so far everything works BUT for the my location (with GPS disabled) - it sucks
However, I am not that worried - this happened when I bought the Dash - my location did not work with the tmobile ROM. but when I upgraded it to 6.1 using a custom ROM, my location was back.
What truly sucks is that the my location works fine on my wife's jailbroken IPhone, on my unlocked Kaiser (custom ROM though).
So I am hoping once we have HardSPL and can get EnergyROM going here , my location should appear!
I thought i read online that google maps may not get location w/o gps when in 3g mode. If using edge, should work. The brief time i had the dash 3g, it did not work with 3g but if i was using edge it worked fine. Try turning 3g off and see if it works. I hope that something they do fixes it though.

True for me. That's what they did. I didn't protest though, since I wanted the 3G connection.
Even on Edge, the full $25 plan is wayyyy faster. It just is really faster. Maybe that's cuz of the power of the phone, though. But I'm happy.

So does your my locations work with 3g connection on and with the web2go $25.00 plan? Does it include txt messaging?
What APN is everyone using? The default on the phone used to be epc.tmobile.com, but I changed it to internet2.voicestream.com, considering that I was on the old total internet plan and maybe my locations would work then, but unfortunately there was no difference....anyone else do the same?

Yes, I am cheap. But, why pay $24.99 for 3G when you can have it for $5.99. I been using my SE TM506 Bluetooth connection to my eeepc for 3G for a long time and I am getting over 150KB speed all over the city. I love the t-zone plan and love to be cheap.

I got the $25 plan because my family plan already has TXTing in it. The only difference between $25 and $35 plan is texting. Otherwise they're identical.
I left it on the default APN. Never touched it. Those voicestream connections were always slower, for me, so I don't use them. epc.tmobile.com is the way to go.
And Google Map's locate me feature works fine with cellular triangulation. Mine was defaultly using that, when I installed the new version of Google Maps. Something must be going weird with your setup. Idk.
Hey Guys,
I'm currently working on a guide for flashing a Incredible 2 to Straight Talk Service. I've hit a huge snag though. If anyone with experience with CDMA Workshop can PM it'd be greatly appreciated. When I get the phone completely flashed over I'll happily help anyone else flash their phone over I don't see paying 50 - 100 dollars for someone to flash it when I can figure it out and use the flashing cost to pay for service

Sorry I did not realize i had a reply to this posting. Well I know how to flash the straight talk prl to the phone and etc... I just can not get Incredible 2 to be recognized by CDMA workshop which is a major part of getting this phone running on Straight Talk, since straight talk doesn't allow phones other than their phone on the network.

Yeah, Ik the feeling bud I've been trying to get my phone running on Straight Talk for ages, as soon as I figure it out I'll help ya out!
Wish I could help because I'd like to do this as well. Hope you get the help you need.
I hope so too... cause the only other option for me in the area if i want to use my Incredible 2 is cricket and the service, stinks around here.
I hear you. The least expensive, seemingly reliable, option I have found is $50.
Yeah, and at least with straight talk its on verizon so we know it'll be reliable, it unlimited everything and we get verizon data speeds all at 45/month which is a lot better than the 103/month i was paying on verizon for 450 minute, unlimited txt, and unlimited data.
From what I gather reading about it, ST unlimited data on the $45 plan is actually capped at ~2GB.
An alternative on the Verizon network is PagePlus who announced they are upping the data on the $55 plan to 1GB beginning this month (was scheduled for the 18th but may have been pushed back to the 25th).
Edited to change the PP plan from $40 to $55/mo. Apologies.
Yeah even with it being capped off its still the best choice for the price, and even throttled speeds aren't to bad on ST.
I can probably help you guys out if you are still interested. I do not have the incredible 2, but I have done this with another android phone.

Sometimes it takes 72 hours to get 3G, IME. Are you using a 3G capable donor phone? If so and you wait that long and still don't have it, call ST support and tell them you aren't getting 3G speeds, without mentioning the swap of course...
I'd hate to revive a month old thread but I did come across this guide for flashing it for Cricket. If someone could adapt it for StraightTalk that would be awesome!

I'm getting about sick of the Verizon service in my area. I'm about to can my contract for good, but I like my DInc2 a lot. I'm running cm9 4.0.4 and its truly incredible now. Does anyone know if the straight talk sim cards will work with the GSM radio in thus phone on any rom?
I'm tempted to get one to try buy I just wonder if someone already has...
it will work just fine for text and talk but the internet will be slow because the phone get only 2G Edge so that's the only problem if u don't care about the speed it will be fine for u
I have the Droid Incredible 2 Global on the Straight talk Network through the Sim Card.
The only problem is I can only get Edge network. Any ideas on how to get the 3G?

I've had this phone for awhile now, I want to say since April and it's been fine for the most part besides 3 other bugs I've been meaning to post about on here, but I've gotten rock solid internet with an unlocked phone from Amazon on T-mobile with the stock Android, including through all updates to 4.4's most recent. It flies on LTE and HSPA+.
Out of nowhere yesterday my data slowed to a crawl. I Speed Test it and I'm getting literally 0.04MBS down and around the same up.
I'm not being throttled. Although stupidly through procrastination I'm still on a month to month from an old contract where I get unlimited but get throttled after 5gig's use, I'm literally only 2 days and maybe 100mb into my cycle and even when I'm throttled they keep me between 1 and 2 megs down.
I'm really unsure what has happened and would really appreciate if anyone could lend a helping hand here with suggestions or the outright known issue and fix.
Thanks,
Cliff

I never had a hotspot subscription, but my mobile hotspot seemed to work perfectly on my Nexus 5. Never did I see "checking for subscription" on my Nexus 5.
Today, after activating my nano SIM, I go to try mobile hotspot and now my Pixel XL checks for an AT&T subscription. This is a bummer since I have an unlimited data plan.
I understand that this is a service AT&T wants to sell, but I'm confused as to what the differences between the two phones are. Both phones are bought from Google directly.
Also, do any of you know of an app which can create a hotspot?
Thanks in advance.
This has come up over and over since the Nexus 6. Android itself now has it built into the back end to check with the carrier for hotspot provisioning. Some carriers don't care. Most do.

For those of you still on UDP still, you have to be aware at this point that VZW doesn't really like that you still have it which is why they keep raising your prices. You're just giving them a really good reason to kick you off that plan tier by violating your ToS. Yes they can do this. Keep skirting it if you'd like but don't be surprised if it happens. The carriers can see what type of traffic is passing through the device. This how TMO caught people on old legacy plans before they started giving away hotspot.
I'm sure a workaround will pop up at some point but I've experienced it myself and known a few other people that lost old legacy plans this way.

A representative at AT&T said this is a common problem with unlocked phones (One Plus owners specifically), and they have resolved this issue in the past. We'll see how far she gets. If she does not find a solution, I'll have to consider other options.

You can use this trick to get the hotspot going on your phone without root. I have tried it on my Pixel XL with ATT. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69229666&postcount=35
The Network Signal Refresher app you will need is here. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.atejapps.networksignalrefresher&hl=en My N6 checked with the death star for hotspot permission. Rooting the N6 and modifying two files had me tethering all I wanted. It is nice to be able to tether without root using the network app. If you tether up a storm, ATT may very well send you a text. One of the files that got modified on the N6 told the phone not to send all the tethering data through a specific tethering path via ATT. So even though you can get a hotspot on the Pixel, it will be easy for ATT to know you are tethering.
Received my Pixel 2 XL today, bought the non carrier Google version and not the Verizon Google Store version.
I am on the long gone old classic Verizon Wireless true unlimited plan.
Upgrading from Nexus 6P which worked great on Verizon and tethered right out of the box, just switched it on and it worked
Got the Pixel 2 XL, Popped my Verizon Sim in at boot up as it requests, did full setup, data works, phone calling service works.
Went to turn on tethering and got saw the window say "Checking subscription status". Then says "To use Mobile Hotspot please call customer service to subscribe"
So no tethering for me unless I call Verizon and likely either pay a bunch more a month or get moved to their new unlimited plan, that only allows 10gb of tethering a month.
Suggestions/options/recommendations? I'll get in touch with Google but the phone may be going back.

I just wiped my phone and redid it with no sim inserted in the XL 2, once I put the sim in and turned on the hotspot still got the same provisioning message.
I just put my sim in my son's unlocked Moto G 5+ and hotspot worked just fine.
If we get a lot of reports of hotspot working for people with the old grandfathered unlimited plan maybe it did something to the phone the first time I booted it up with the sim in it.

Perhaps by copying the data there was a transfer of the user database that holds this setting.
Code:
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
I believe this setting gets changed when you edit the build.prop with the following
Code:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
Just a thought. No data to back the above.

Tethering doesn't work with Verizon gudp, it didn't work with the first pixels and it doesn't work with the pixel 2 either. People saying it works out of the box either don't have a gudp plan or they have the tethering package on their plan.
Soon enough there will be root or mods available to bypass the subscription check.

And here's a dumb question, I am in the same boat as you I have the old school VZW unlimited data plan and need to tether also and am quite interested in the Pixel 2 XL (despite all the recent crying about the screen), so do I indeed need to get the unlocked version from the Play Store then? And then just pop my sim card in? I guess I am confused on the sim part, can you just pop any VZW sim card into it and it'll fire up recognizing it's your account/number/etc? Are all VZW sim cards identical? I've just never upgraded my phone like this before, getting an unlocked device. I am currently with a Galaxy S6 if that matters at all.
