Hi all,
Sorry for such a depressing first thread! Had my P8000 for about a year with no real major issues. I did root it, so SPFlashTool all worked fine and I know how to use and I took it to bits about 3 months ago to fix the headphone jack. The other day, I took the MicroSD out, copied some files across to it and put it back in. When I checked the phone 5 mins later is was dead dead. No LED, no response to vol up/down and power, no charging no nothing. So I can't get to the recovery bootloader screen.
Tried connecting to charger for ages, nothing happened.
Tried SPFlashTool but no USB noise from Windows and no response from phone. Tried another Windows PC with new drivers, same.
Tried disconnecting battery. Still completely dead and no response what-so-ever.
Anyone have any ideas (no matter how simple it sounds) of what to do next?
Thanks in advance,
Del Boy

And did you try to turn it on without the sd card? In the past I had problems turning on a phone and in the end it was due to a defective sd card. As soon as I removed the card, the phone started working again. I then had to reformat the card and everything worked again. Did you reformat the card? If so check it you formatted it using exfat, since it's not supported. You should use FAT32.
Thank you for the reply!
Yes, taken SD card out, no response, put it back, no response, tried a blank one, no response.
Was yours completely dead too?
Hello there! unfortunately my P8000 is completely dead too. I just tried all things in my hands but, I have not solved anything, besides I've searched all over the internet and I didn't find anything, did you solved the problem with your P8000?
I don't know what else to do, please if you find any answer about how to fix your P8000 let me know, and if I find something, I'll do the same for you.
I know this thread is old as dirt, but I found that also when I removed the sdcard, backed it up, and put it back in the sdcard slot that my p8000 wouldn't turn on. Turned out that the sdcard clips are crap, and a piece of the clip (very tiny) broke of wedging between the mainboard, and the clip shorting the phone. Removed the tiny metal piece, and the P8000 powered up. Bad thing, is now I had to tape the clip/sdcard in place to keep them from falling out. My P8000 is about 7 months old as of this post.

XDA, you are my only hope, and no I don't mean to sound like someone out of Star Wars, but I mean it, it's either you, or the death of my Desire...
Today I had my phone in my pocket at work. I took it out and noticed it was dead, so naturally I thought the battery had run out, although I was confused as I had fully charged my phone the night before. I got home, put my phone on charge and after two minutes the Orange light still hadn't come on. I removed my battery, then re-inserted it and still nothing.
After 10 or so minutes I started to fiddle around with my Desire a little more. I am running a custom ROM, so I removed the SD Card & the SIM card & the battery. If I plug the charger in with no battery, SIM or SD, I get a Orange & Green light that flashes on and off within the combined time of one second. Inserting the SD, will stop the battery from charging and the handset turning on, however if there is no SD in, and just the battery I am able to get to HBoot, however it won't respond.
I am trying to flash the latest PB99IMG that can be found over at Shipped-Roms. HTC are on schedule to pick the phone up tomorrow however the problem is it has a Custom ROM on it, please XDA I need you help, even if I can't get my phone into fully working order, aslong as I can get it running Genuine HTC Software. Thanks in advance!
Extra Notes:
I found threads suggesting this could be linked to a 'Dead Battery' however they all concerned batteries that were fake/counterfeit, not real ones that died.
so, if you insert the sim, and no sd, it charges
Have you tried a different sd? One formatted to FAT 32?
And if so, can you boot to recovery? (vol -, and hold power key)

I tried an SD Card that works and that I current use with my other phone, Desire HD, the symptoms are the same however I am able to Charge with the SD Card in at the same time, I haven't tried Charging with the SD Card in with the original SD Card that was inserted when the problem first occured. At the moment, the Orange light will come on signaling charge, however if I do Vol - + Power the light goes off and nothing happens, and the same if I just power on, I have to remove the battery and re-insert to get it to charge again.
what ROM?
Also, if you do a fastboot. "back button" then power?
Are you running Leedroid by chance?

I am running one of the stock-but-rooted ROM's.
It can be found here.
And I can confirm that the back-button and power causes the same problem as trying to get into HBoot. If I was on LeeDroid, could the scenario for that problem possibly fix this one?

It does if I try to turn it on (which is when the screen goes black and nothing happens.)
Okay than the thermosensor is preventing from it from charging. Well 2 things come to my mind:
1. Check the contact pins which are connecting to the battery. See if they are not bent. (not touching the copper). If they are, try to fix them with a precision screwdriver.
2. Put the phone into the freezer (suggested bya danish XDA member, can't remeber who) for a few minutes (3-4). and try to charge.

I have managed to get to Fastboot after putting the device in the freezer, problem is, when i press vol +/- nothing happens.
Then IDK - these are the most frequent errors for the problem: Dead battery/overheating. And the bent pins were causing the problem (not contacted the copper sheets on the battery).
Somebody mentioned, that an extremly drained battery will produce the same blinking effect.
Also, try the wall charger and not via USB (just in case).
Hi,
I just got a used Samsung Glide (I927R - Rogers Canada), rooted and running this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1462298 and it seemed to be working fine until I inserted my microSD card. I wanted to get my apps and stuff from my old captivate S1 but as soon as I stuck it in there, the screen started to get a bunch of grey horizontal lines! Couldn't turn it off so I took the battery out and when I put it back, NOTHING. Dead. Or so I thought. The USB did make a sound when I plugged it in, but only once or twice. Not consistently.
I tried all the usual things to get it into download mode: volume up and power button with battery/no battery, plugged into the wall, plugged into the computer. Also tried to see if Odin would recognize it, and it using those methods, and it didn't. Oddly though, later on I walked by and saw that the rogers screen had come on. Same grey lines, a few at first and then more and more. Then, it went dead again. I'm currently staring at the brick now, unable to figure out whether it's hard bricked or soft bricked. Has this happened to anyone else, and is there a fix perhaps? I'd be so grateful.
If you're running a custom ROM you [most likely] have CWM on there. Try volume down + power and see if you get into that. If you get there, you can install a new ROM. I'd try a format/fresh install first. I'd also make a backup of the SD on a computer, format the SD, then put your stuff back on it and put it back into the phone. Only copy what you want, let any extra/garbage stuff go away (as long as you have a full backup).
I've only had my phone freak out once on me thats similar to the grey lines you mentioned. But mine were yellow. No idea what caused it, it was seemingly random.
Try the volume + down thing and let us know if you at least get to the CWM screen.
Was the phone turned on when you inserted the MicroSD? You may have inadvertently shorted pins to the spring mechanism.
X2 on bobbin's solution, you may be flying blind here, unfortunately. Last resort would be no MicroSD, no SIM, plug USB to computer, insert battery, hold both volume buttons and power button, see if ODIN recognizes. **** goes wonky when you try to hot-swap components and short them.
Good Luck! If you can't get it to work, let me know, I'd be willing to try my best with it and maybe give you a diagnosis.

Are you not allowed or should not switch the SDCARD out while the phone is running? What about the SIM? Just curious for future knowledge.

Thank you. Yes, I believe the phone was running when I put the MicroSD in. I've done that a few times in the past with my other captivate and never had a problem. If I've fried things, can they be fixed? Unfortunately, I bought this phone used with the assumption that I could transfer the warranty. I have since discovered that is false and I am now the owner of a very expensive paperweight (if I can't fix it or find someone to help me).
Thanks again. I would LOVE a diagnosis. Would you PM me with details? I'm in Toronto.
I eject and load my sd card all the time with the phone on...

PM on its way. No guarantee I can do anything but diagnose If it's the main circuit board, it quickly gets more expensive to fix than replace.

It's not a problem with hot-swapping, it's if something gets caught up, low voltage short/ground-outs can wreak havoc on sensitive electronics. It's like wiring electrical outlets with the power on - It's not against the rules, it can be done safely, but one wire out of position grounding load will flip a circuit breaker/pop a fuse.
Hi there,
I apologize if there is already another thread for this kind of issue but I really have no idea where else to post this. I am a complete newbie when it comes to phones but would like to know if there is anyway to help me solve my problem:
My phone is a galaxy nexus with I believe 4.2.2 JB. I've always had problems with my phone randomly resetting/crashing and wasn't able to find any solution to this problem. However, today when I was out shoveling snow on my driveway, I realized my phone was a little wet as I forgot to zip up my pocket and so my phone reset (remained on the Google) screen and would not boot up (It happens quite frequently that I thought it was just like any other reset). So I was a little impatient and took out the battery. When I tried to turn the phone back on, the power button was completely unresponsive. I thought I'd give it a second, take out the battery and sim card and reboot it but to my surprise nothing happened. I ended up looking through the forums for some solution to my problem but I don't know where to begin and what to do.
I have tried the method of plugging in the USB cable into the phone (without battery) and putting it back in. The phone is still unresponsive and to add insult to injury when the phone is plugged in the USB cable to the PC, the PC does not recognize the phone and keeps beeping (the kind that lets you know its disconnected or just cannot read the device). Right now the phone is in a bag with rice just to make sure that the phone had not suffer any water damage, but even when it was in my pocket it wasn't extremely wet..
I believe it may be the device but am not sure what actions I can do on my behalf to solve the problem. Is my phone completely gone or is it still able to be saved? Would I need to bring it into a specalist to see if they can help me out or can I do this myself? Any help is greatly appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read!
Cheers!
Edit:
Also just received an OMAP4440 while phone was plugged in... Does that mean my phone is done?
Any help?

The same consequences, came to my gnex, when I cleaned it, with too much liquid... Now the most unprotected parts from water of the phone are the usb port, of course, and the power and volume button. To solve, you have to open the phone (http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+Nexus+Teardown/7182) and clean the contacts of the power button, for the usb port, you have to replace all the part for a few $ on ebay... (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...e_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2c66d9064b)
Use at you own risk:
A friend of mine was kayaking and had his Samsung galaxy s3 dunked in the water for a while. it was totally wet and the screen wouldn't run on at all.
He baked t in the oven at 200 F for a couple of hours and things went back to nornal. he also stated that he has done that before and it worked every time.
Think of this as a last resort if you are unable to change the usb ribbon as stated above. Also make sure you google this solution extensively to get the right temp and the right amount.
Good luck.
Hello,
so a common problem for the lg, that happend to me, is that the sd card will not be recognized anymore for a long time, and the sim card will only work if the phone is restarted several times, until by luck, it has detected it, otherwise it isn't detecting it, even though the card is firmly inserted in the phone and the hardware is ok. So as I was trying to make the phone recognize the sim card on normal room temperature it wouldn't happen, but when I put in the freezer and it cools down for several minutes and I restart it the card would be recognized. Is this because in low temperatures the metal shrinks?
P.s. I leave it then in the fridge, in order not to get it condensated.
Thanks for any replies!

Sim and external sd cards can short out and overheat, and since the cards are stacked on top of one another in the G3 - if one gets too hot it could damage the other one. Power it up without the sim & sd card and see if it still overheats.
Another suggestion is to take a close look and see if anything is shorting across any pins near your sim/sd card ports. If there is nothing obvious around your connectors and your cards work in another phone, then I'd have to agree you may need a replacement phone.
And you can always try a factory reset or a fresh install of whatever ROM you are using and cross your fingers it works. Good luck :fingers-crossed:
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I have already gave the phone for a repair of this problem. It then occured again. I think it is something more complicated and my sd card is not on the phone for a lot of time now, so I will only hope, that the next repair will fix the things for longer time than 2 weeks.
Hi,
a couple of days ago my ASUS ZenFone 2 (Z00AD, ZE551ML, 4 GB RAM, 8 GB ROM, 1.8 GHz) started behaving very erratically on its own. It's not been rooted nor has been the bootloader/recovery modified.
OS version was the latest: WW-4.21.40.352.
Before it all happened, I cracked my screen and replaced it.
The phone worked perfecty (aside from the screen not being original (occasional flicker)) for a week, after which I started to lose signal in the SIM1 slot. It took me 6 weeks to realize, it might've been the antenna cable. I disassembled the phone again and inserted the cable again. It then worked perfectly for a couple of days.
Then it looked like it was damaged by water, which of course was not the case.
It started with continuous vibration and black screen, and only a forced shutdown (by holding the power button for a couple of seconds) helped. Then, it started to restart on its own and lose signal. Then the speaker stopped working, until poking its area. And at last, the phone thouht I have View Flip Cover on and all I could do was to force shutdown.
Then the phone didn't wan't to turn on at all. It didn't even charge and was not being detected by the computer.
I then read, one has to pull the battery cable twice and it did help.
The phone worked fine for a day, until it started going into black screen/constant vibration state, in which only a forced shutdown helped.
I followed a guide to redo hard brick and it's helped for a while, but now the phone constantly goes into black screen/constant vibration state at random, the same hapenning sometimes when charging while turned off or when choosing any option in the stock bootloader. It also doesn't boot completely (the ASUS logo shows up much later) and the WLAN doesn't work.
I followed the unbrick guide correctly. I read up, the mainboard might be corrupt.
What do you suggest? I of course, lost my guarantee the moment I cracked my screen.
Many thanks in advance.
Check the connection of the flex cable on the daughter board. Pretty sure there is loose connection.

Had to shelf my phone for a year because of this. Gotta clean the connector and press the cable in there good.
