HTC possibly bricked? Help - HTC One X

Bought an ATT branded One X from a friend that is stuck in bootloop. He attempted an ota update, and now it boots to black screen after the htc logo screen. Home buttons light up, stay lit. The ATT chime is heard, but no display. Booting recovery leads to the red triangle. I have no idea if he turned fastboot off, or even the software version he had or was trying to update. I am hoping the phone is saveable, and hoping to load it with a good custom if possible. I have been searching and reading for hours, and have mixed results as to the proper direction. Currently, I can boot into hboot/recovery mode. This is the info on screen:
locked
evita pvt ship S-on rl
Hboot 2.14.000
radio 0.17.32.09.12
And so on.
I've read I need s-off, and unlocked, as well as root and twrp or cwm installed. Ok, no problem. Also know fastboot needs to be off. I have also read this is not possible without knowing what version is on the phone, and that this phone is bricked. Seems to me that it's not, but maybe it is.
Can I use a toolkit to get s-off and unlocked AND turn off fastboot, and then simply flash twrp and a custom Rom, orrrr...???????

Wrong forum, you have to ask this in One XL forums. http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-x-att

Ah yes, that right. The Evita is an XL, not X. My bad completely. Sorry.

[Q] Cant get to recovery!

Hey there, so unlike every other android I have unlocked, I did not realize that I had to read every rooting tutorial in the wiki before I found out that not using one specific method would screw things up.
At this point, I have gained root and flashed the wrong update. Now I am stuck in a bootloader loop, and any time I try to get to recovery it takes me to a black screen with a pic of the phone and a triangle with a red exclamation.
I have attempted to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
To recover the recovery, but it does not even give me the chance to flash that update.
HELP! I am afraid this phone is bricked, but don't want to proceed until I know for sure...
This is what the bootloader is telling me:

You're on hboot 0.79 so you should be able to run unrevoked. The guide you followed was for the new evo's with hboot 2.02, which isn't needed to fully root your phone. Anyways, that triangle with a red exclamation means that you don't have a proper recovery installed. Also, from your bootloader description, you still have s-on so that means you aren't fully rooted. Your phone isn't bricked, just grab an official RUU (PC36IMG.zip) and place it on the root of your sd card then power into the bootloader (power off -> vol down + power on) to reflash your phone. Otherwise, look into the unrevoked instructions on how to root and start there.
Where do I find the official ones?
OH MY GOODNESS!!!
Thanks!
I am seeing a LOT of files floating around... where would I find the "Official" ones???
phew!!!
Never mind... I found what I was looking for and I am now booting back to the OS...
Dude... I seriously thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown!
I have rooted/rom'd over a dozen androids... at least 5 different models... I this is the first time I actually thought I might be screwed...

Looks like you're not in recovery there, but in Fastboot menu.
You might want to go back to bootloader menu and check if you have the recovery option.
From there maybe you can flash a working rom...
yes i can go to recovery but when i press recovery i get stuck at logo screen!and i have to pull the battery out to turn it off...
Read bortak's troubleshooting guide. Go to Desire Q&A/Stickies and down too [2] in the guide. I would read from the start tho, its a very usefull guide to know for any future problems.

Let us know if it has been useful.
i have red it already...i cant get it into recovery!!! i see only bootloader and when i press recovery it gets stuck on a logo!! never mind its probably a hardware issue ....
You are in stock recovery as you are s-on, if you want custom recovery you need s-off or flash it during rooting process via unrevoked.
Extract Rom.zip from CORRECT RUU and rename it to PB99IMG.zip and put in the root of sd card, if phone is branded and you are unable to find correct ruu, use WWE rui and goldcard, all the additional info you find in bortak's guide

Read it again.. go down too [2] and then down too the s-on part.
"i'm s-on, i cant boot recovery, and my phone does'nt boot" . From what i can see, thats ur problem, bortak's guide covers this. Correct me if im wrong.

i already tried bortak's guide,i am not that noob and i tried like 10 different roms and nothing,it does load the rom but when it restarts it just hangs again at boot screen
and i cannot use unrevoked or revolutionary or ruu because the phone isnt recognized by any of these programs because i didn't activate usb debugging and now the phone doesn't turn on and i can't do that,i am telling you i have spent 2 whole days reading and trying all kind of stuff and nothing helped..i think its a hardware failure of some kind....
i think it is a hardware issue because when i install drivers it says android bootloader device but it says also that device cannot start (code 10)
anyway i tried yesterday heating the MBO with hot air in my workshop(i am electric technician) i thought some chip on MBO was unsoldered but with no luck so i threw the whole thing away in the garbage!

Bricked.. help.

phone was given to me with damaged wifi functionality (listed ERROR instead of ON or OFF) found directions suggesting a rom flash to fix it... well.. things have gone down hill.
now stuck at HTC Whitescreen.

Recovery is CWM 4.0.0.4
last flash is 6.01.605.05_VZW_OTA-full-odex.zip
Flashed system and boot from that file (extracted boot.img).
I tried this, but suspected it wouldn't work as I can't get past the white HTC logo http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1298990
Oddly I did end up seeing a BLACK screen HTC emblazoned across it. However after it finished I'm back to the white HTC screen hang.
HBOOT is still .98 so it seems to have had no appreciable effect.

It looks like it was unlocked using HTC Dev. You can't downgrade if you are unlocked already. Re-lock the phone (not sure how to do this, as I never did it this way), and then downgrade and S-Off. That is going to be your best option.

Ahh, need to relock to downgrade? I missed that bit somewhere. Thanks. will try that then run the downgrade path again.
No luck.. Bootloader then shows
***Relocked***
*Security Warning*
Will not proceed past bootloader. So the ADB commands error out with "Error: device not found". I can't get into CWM recovery with a locked bootloader to allow ADB commands to work.
perplexing..
In addition when unlocked, in CWM I cannot mount System. Is that normal?

You might need to try the Taco Root Method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796
You can 100% do it. I never did it this way, but there is many others on this site that have been successful with this method.
A little back and forth play with the locked/unlocked status finally got it all working. Had to Unlock, enter CWM, format system, data, cache, , pull a boot.img from a zip file, flash that, reboot back to Fastboot, into recovery, mount system, data, cache, run the ADB section of the commands, reboot again into fastboot, relock (reboots on its own).. stick a RUU onto the microSD and slide that in. fail.. np, try another, and another. Finally found one it took and updated. Unbricked, Wifi is alive.
Downgrade may be possible at this point but probably not really worth it.

[Q] Desire overheating brick (7 times vibrates)

Hi! I know this is a well known problem and I try to read as many related topic i could find but I'm still stuck... Here's the situation:
I have a HTC Desire Bravo (european version i guess, I bought it here in Italy around 2 years ago), with definetely some overheating problems. I haven't use this phone in a long time, yesterday I turn it on and it start loading the Cyano 7 that was already install on the device. It freeze at the animation boot. After that first time it never worked again. Stuck with htc logo if I turn it on, sometimes does the 7 vibrate thing (which I come to the conclusion it's 'cause is overheating A LOT), sometimes it stuck on a reboot<-->htc logo loop untill I remove the battery.
I just want to make it run again, and maybe i'll send it to htc for the overheating, but first I need to bring it back to stock. Here's what I try:
- i flash the bravo downgrade by alpharev to bring the original partition table
- i flash a recovery, won't start (stuck with htc logo ec..ec...)
- I try the RUU, but it won't recognize the phone in hboot
- I try the pb99img method... it doesn't get recognize from the bootloader
So I am stuck with the Device in fastboot, can't get a recovery work so I can't flash any rom or ruu. If it helps, here's the hboot screen

Thanks for the quick response! But how exactly am I going to do that? The PC just won't recognize the phone plug in in HBOOT, so the ruu installer fail and says he can't find the phone (ERROR 170).
Maybe i have a wrong version of hboot?
OMG i made it work!! I put it in a plastic bag in the freezer for 20min and now i'm in recovery!!! I can't believe it really work:laugh:
I did some wipe and try to install the stock rom, just to make it work, but it's stuck on "Veryfying update package", and the progress bar won't go on. Mainboard it's already burning, at least now I know it has some hardware issues.
I'm gonna try downgrade it back to factory (s-on, unroot, all original ecc..) and send it back to HTC. Do you know if the warranty is still valid considering I bought it in november 2010 and i still have the receive ?
Warranty should be 2 years from the moment you bought it.

[Q] Stuck in Relocked Bootloader

I bought this phone.
HTC One X
I have a bit of knowledge when it comes to rooting phones but i ran into this problem here.
It seems that the phone has no ROM, no Recovery ( I try Booting into Recovery and it Reboots back into Bootloader) and is Relocked (Fastboot ac).

How do i unlock bootloader and be able to go back to fastboot usb?
So it boots to the BootLoader Screen, this is a good thing, so its not 'dead' ... yet
Unless your gonna send it in for repair, First thing I would try is unlocking it ... your in for a ride
go to http://www.htcdev.com/ create an account, and follow the steps for unlocking the device
The fact that you can get into the boot loader means you should be able to generate your bin code, to unlock the thing
If you do manage to get it unlocked, I would follow the instructions in this forum for flashing a custom rom onto the thing
you start by unlocking, rooting, then CWM Recovery
Once you have that done, flash a custom rom, such as IceColdJelly which is what I use
Hopefully this works for you, Its already busted, no harm in trying
Good luck to you!
EDIT: You may find this useful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069904
I alredy did this and it says " waiting for device"
Don't flash anything from this forum. This forum is only for the international One X (endeavor). You have an Evita.
