So the device was rooted at one point and then I odinned back to stock and I believe that the device is on 4.4.4 kitkat. It started doing a weird thing where it doesn't turn on correctly, no matter what i do (recovery, normal power on, or download mode) the device turn off after 3ish seconds. The power button seems kind of flakey as the one time I got it to power on the device didn't respond to every press of the power button and always took the press of the power button as a long press and opened the power off menu and or rebooted the device into not working again. Help would be so great and thank you.
Maybe power button is shorting, or another hard-button is shorting, causing boot to fail. You may wish to get replacement parts.
You said you used odin, so there are other possibilities. You could have broken the firmware/radio, partitions, or other things.
I should say that I have had similar problems with my S4 too. Firmware on this device behaves poorly.

MY galaxy s2 has problems with powering off every now and then. it was really bad at one point where all it was doing is turning on and rebooting right after. i had a custom rom for months and never had problems until yesterday. i couldnt go on recovery mode because it would always restart every five seconds. Now it seems to less frequent because i realized that it always reboots when i touch the power button once. Sometimes when i push the power button to take it off sleep mode, the power options pops up (recovery, restart, power off etc) so thats when i thought the power button might be the problem
Any guesses on what could be the problem?? If its software problems or power button issue.
P.S. reset my phone, re rooted it, and put a new rom darkside. It literally stays on until i push the power button. then it restarts five seconds later.
the power buttons seems to stick....I have the same problem, the phone is acting as if the power button is being pressed without being let go. When the power button is held indefinitely it just keeps rebooting over and over again. It occurs sporadically, but once it sticks..it sticks. I seem to be able to unstick it by slapping it against my hand but eventually it turns off. Its definitely a hardware issue and I will open up the phone right now to investigate. Ill write if I find anything useful.

So I have my htc one x for a year now. Rooted and custom rom, all worked fine.
The keypresses of the power button will be simulated very fast with no actual pressure on the power button. So after some minutes off locking and waking my device I pressed volume down and power button. Now sometimes it simulates the volume down and power button.
So sometimes it shuts off the device.
So I opened the device and there appears to be nothing wrong with it. I turned my HOX on and quickly unplug the ribbon cable from the power button off. But the power button is still pressed really fast, like 2 times a second.
I can't even go into recovery to backup, restore or flash anything because it will press the power button really quick and after 10 seconds it turns itself off.
It happened before on Slimbean rom. But the problem went away after some days. Now i got MIUI and the problem is back. So I don't think it is rom related.
My solution:
Is there a way to disable hardware keys in the recovery? Then i can try to restore my official RUU nand..?
My tablet Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (SM-T805) screen went black. I can’t see the screen.
Touch also does not seem to work. However it’s on. it is receiving calls and other messages. It is connected to WiFi.
Power button, volume button are working but I can’t power off the device cause I can’t see the screen options.
When I plug in to the charging cable it vibrates but does not show anything on screen.
It didn’t drop and hit by anything…i have been using it for 3 months now. it just happened by itself or may be by some update that I don’t know.
Please help how to bring it back to life
Are you able to get into download or recovery? I've never heard of something like this before. Maybe go ahead and let it die and then plug it back in and see if you can get into download mode by holding home+power+volume down then re flash your stock firmware or whatever you were using. Or do home+power+volume up to get into recovery. If you still have stock recovery then you can just do a factory reset right from that but if your using something TWRP then your still going to need to flash something after wiping your data.
Not sure how else you can get it to shut off since you can't see it. Even knowing where the power menu is once you press the button it would still be tough to hit the right thing. I'd say let it die. Maybe someone else can come shed some light. Of course it could be a hardware problem as well. I'm leaning toward software still though.
If your still completely stock I'd say let it die and get into stock recovery. Home+power+volume up and then wipe data and do a factory reset. Now if the screen stays black after its off and you've plugged in the charging cable then I'd imagine there's a more a serious problem going on.
Yes I am waiting for battery to be completely drained out. I will try your method once the battery is completely dead.
thanks
Your welcome let me know how it goes. Will do my best to help.
I don't have my tab with me right now but can't you hold power button for 10 sec to force a reboot? All Android device I ever had could do that.

Doest work on t805 holding powerbutton, just hold the buttons for download mode and that will force it to reset and prompt you to press volume down to cancel volume up to continue...hold for 30 seconds, and if nothing appears let go and just press volume up once, still no joy then pop back cover off and unclip and reclip battery if your brave, thats what i did before i new about this quicker way.
How to run the battery completely down..? its still active and on... though not showing anything on screen.
Is there any quicker way... ?
To do a hard-reset on these Samsung devices, you need to hold Power + Home + Volume Down until it reboots. On every other device it's just Power. Some it's Power+Home. For some reason Samsung likes to be different.
Or if you have previously enabled USB Debugging, you can plug it in to your computer and do an ADB Reboot.
Power + volume down + volume up works for me as reset.

Holy crap the dude is right....just tried that myself on t805, holding all 3 buttons at same time in top left corner power, vol dwn, vol, up forces a simple reset without dwnload mode rubbish.
My VS985 has 2 problems, which may be related to each other. The first is that, when the phone is fully turned off, turning it back on again is difficult. When I press the power button, the phone just vibrates at me and then refuses to turn on. Screen doesn't light up or anything. Pressing the power button again does nothing at that point. What I have to do, sometimes up to 7-8 times before it turns on, is remove the battery, wait a few seconds, put it back in, then press the power button again. It'll vibrate every time, and eventually one of those times it will turn on and boot up.
The second issue is that I've found it impossible to get into recovery mode using the buttons. I can get in just fine using the quick boot app, but that's not much use if I ever end up in a state where I can't boot into the OS. Apparently it's supposed to work by turning the phone off, then pressing and holding the power + volume down buttons and waiting for the LG logo to show up. I've tried this many times, it never works, possibly because of the first problem.
I bought this phone used, immediately used ODIN to downgrade it to the original stock OS, then towel rooted it and installed CM (LOS 14.1 now), so I've no idea if this phone has always had this problem or if I caused it. It's not a big deal since I always keep my phone on but makes trying new ROMs scary. Has anyone heard of this before, or have any idea how to fix it?
So I have a OnePlus 3 since it was released and my power button started not working properly about a year ago.
And today I found out that the power button was not working at all anymore no matter how hard I pressed.
At first it was clicking twice instead of once (shortcut to open the camera), or I had to press it very hard to make it work.
I found some workarounds (double tap to wake, double tap to lock, etc).
So when the device is powered on, it's fine I can do everything I need.
The problem is when I need to poweroff the device (changing sim card) or when it runs out of battery.
On some other threads people say to hold the volume down button and to plug the phone to a computer.
But it doesn't work for me, when I do that the device goes to the bootlogo (before the romlogo) and is stuck there.
Any help or idea appreciated.
Also I am not willing to change the power button because it seems hard to take apart the device according to this tutorial : https://fr.ifixit.com/Tutoriel/OnePlus+3+Power+and+Volume+Button+Assembly+Replacement/76019
I am on Lineage16 if that can help.
I feel you. I have broken power button since august... Found workarouns like you. But for me, power button starts to work after one or two weeks so i think it is software issue. But about replacing power button you are really wrong. OnePlus 3 is one of the easiest phones to repair. The thing is, you dont need heat gun to warm adheasive... You just take out screws and pop out the screen. This is kinda one of the reason why i took my phone so i can change battery with no problems or do any other repair by myself. But in the past 3 year i did not need to take apart my phone ?*. You can look up jerryrigeverything he tears down oneplus3 and shows everything step by step. Its indeed really easy, compared to other phones.
Plz answer this then I have replaced power and volume ribbon cable twice with new ones and my power button still not working volume is fine though and I want to unlock bootloader but without power button I can not select the option to do so?
