I tried to go through the process of rooting earlier and I think I have now "soft bricked" my phone as I didn't really know what I was doing.
I managed to unlock my bootloader, I have TWRP 2.8.7.0 installed but now when I turn on my phone I'm stuck at fastboot. (S-ON)
Would it be possible for anyone to advise me if anything can be done? any solution is fine, back to stock or rooted whatever would be the easiest solution.
This was my 1st attempt at trying to root and I wasn't really sure what I was doing, I take full responsibility for being an idiot! any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Need more info about the phone. Do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
Why did you use an old version of TWRP? Current version is 3.0.2-0
How did you flash TWRP?
Did you try to root (flash SuperSU) after flashing TWRP? Or just tried to reboot after flashing TWRP?

Hello, I need some serious help with my friends HTC m8.
We unlocked the phone of my friend and wanted to install a custom recovery. After installing TWRP latest version everything still worked fine, the device still booted normally. After that we tried to install the GPE ROM of the M8 through TWRP without realizing the phone isn't s-off. By itself the installation failed and we just rebooted the device and saw that it wouldn't boot anymore, it was stuck on the boot screen, even though it aborted the installation because the MD5 numbers weren't matching.
Now we don't know what to do, the M8 won't boot and is s-on. We tried downloading: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-european-signed-ruu-0p6bimg-t2911563 the stock file and pushing the update by renaming the zip file to 0P6BIMG.zip but gave us the error "halted due to large image update fail". So this didn't help us either
CiD of the device = HTC_E11
After all we're just idiots by not researching enough before doing anything. Hopefully some experienced people can help us out!
Thanks in advance,
Pepie.

Firstly, I don't think it has anything to do with "not researching" enough but more to do with NOT reading what you "researched" already. You post a link to the RUU .zip that you wanted to use and obviously haven't picked up on the fact that the OP in that thread specifically stated: S-Off is Required with Eurpean CID right after admitting that you are NOT S-OFF.
Secondly: You don't need S-OFF to flash a custom ROM. You just need an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery, that's it. You'll need S-OFF to fully convert the device to GPE though, as it makes changes to partition sizes.
Try to get back into bootloader again. Hold Volume UP + Power for 10 seconds the moment the feel a vibration and/or screen goes dark immediately hold Power + Volume Down to enter bootloader. You should still have TWRP on the device you didn't mention anything about taking it off. Head over to the RUUs, OTAs, Stock TWRP Backups, Firmware & More Collection grab a nandroid backup for your device. Unpack it and place it inside the TWRP backup folder on your device. If you don't have one, make a backup of just "Boot" it'll then create the path for you.
Once done, restore the nandroid. That'll take you back to "stock" then.
Else, just place a custom ROM on the SDcard enter TWRP again and try to flash a custom ROM again.
What ROM did you try to flash? Perhaps give the link...
Oh and remove the 0P6BIMG.zip from the SDCard else it'll just keep on trying to flash it through HBoot.
Hi,
I was trying to install android m on my s-on M9, after i installed the ota and the SO, i got stock on the bootloader. So i restore my phone but it didnt help and my SD got corrupted or something like that because now i dont have any images for doing a restore.
So please any advice, i dont have anything on the phone to restore or install, i have access to the recovery and the download mode,
Could you provide the result of the "fastboot getvar all" command in download mode?
Don't get me wrong I just need a little bit more information to be abled to help and show you the correct way to restore your device to stock.
Im in a rush so im going to make this quick, I tried to root my htc one m8 and it got suck in a boot loop. I then made the foolish mistake, of wiping the whole thing after getting into TWRP. So now im pretty sure there's no longer an OS on it. It's S-on and unlocked. Help?
If you phone was on Marshmallow, your mistake was probably using an old version of SuperSU (which was not updated to root MM). Bootloop or no boot is a common result of this.
You can restore the OS by finding the appropriate (for your CID) stock TWRP backup from the collection, and restoring it. Needed files and instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Or alternately, if an RUU exists for your version, relock the bootloader and RUU back to stock.
If you need more help on any of this (such as determining what version), when you have more time do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
Hi, I need some help with decrypting my device so I can s off it. Im new to rooting and am unsure whether the videos on the unlocked 10 will work for me, and even then S Off brings up what is in my linked image. Should I proceed? What is this partition thing? Please help.

I just used Sunshine to s-off mine. It was $25 for the license but it worked flawlessly and took no time. It was worth it to me just to remove all the Verizon apps, I haven't even touched any custom roms or kernels yet.
I think the only way to decrypt your device is a full factory reset -- that's what Verizon claims, anyway. http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-204803/
I guess you need to S-OFF a Verizon variant before you can install TWRP? Not sure. Regardless, one way to do this is back up your system using TWRP, apply S-OFF via Sunshine, format data in TWRP, and then restore from your backup. Still, you might be able to backup with TWRP after S-OFF, then format data, then restore the backup.
If you're new to rooting, be extra careful with your phone after you S-OFF, because it becomes really easy to brick the device. I nearly ruined my HTC One M7 by applying the wrong firmware.

There's a Verizon specific section for the HTC 10 in which you would find your answers quickly.

my htc m8 is lock bootloader i try to unlock but i cant n then i have done a funny mystic. i just go to my boot screen n flash a rom with my lock bootloader (with stock kernal) after that my phone start n still in boot mode it's not properly
can any know what should i do ?
i'm a sony user i thought htc flash process will like sony so i can fix it easily but it's not like that n now i'm in trouble
I don't follow what you did. You can't flash custom recovery with a locked bootloader, so how could you try to flash a ROM?
Also, you should never flash a ROM without knowing how to recover, and the easy way to do that would be to make a backup in TWRP custom recovery. But you never did that, since you never installed TWRP custom recovery.
What is the problem with unlocking the bootloader?
Basically, you need to give much more detail in order for us to provide any proper help. Describe in detail, each step you tried in sequence, what failed (with specific results, error messages, etc.), what specific files you used, etc.
Also, do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
Never assume one Android device is the same as others. They all have their own nuances and quirks. Even different phones made by the same manufacturer, will greatly differ in root methods, recovery procedures, etc. Read, research, learn and make sure you understand before you try anything.
