Hello Guys,
I am just getting into Android app dev... I am on my second app, the first was an Audio Recording app. This one is a Trivia app - I have a database with over 10k questions. I started coding and now I am brain storming design ideas, thus far I have done this mockup, but it seems too simple to me.. I need more excitement, something that would turn onn the user (yes, turn them onn so they want to play more) - If you have any ideas or suggestion please feel free - I am all ears.
Andre

I would start by thinking of ways to make the choosing of the category a little more challenging. That would then keep the player on their toes and not able to repeatedly choose the same topic which they are "good" at and keep your questions from being repeated so often.
Research for some ideas, think about old game shows like press your luck for example which has cubes around the perimeter of the screen and you have to press a button to stop on a category, bonus points, or one which takes point away. < I'm sure you couldn't set up 100% this way because it would infringe on the game.
You could even have an idea like "choose a door". have 4 "doors" and behind three of the doors are legit categories which are randomly chosen and behind the 4th door, also randomly placed, is a monster or something who eats X amount of points from your score.
Just ideas... hope this gets you started!

Wooow!!! - thank you very much, waaaay more than I bargained for. I like the ideas, especially the door part (Will be implemented). The more I work on this app the more I feel as if releasing it prematurely would be typical and that thought motivates me to work even harder on implementing unique + rich features..
Thanks alot!!! :good:

My thoughts exactly. Let's hope some form of 'skinning' is possible.
It's very ugly..Zune HD like....
Super ugly !!!
The homescreen is ugly, but the rest of the OS is very elegant and simple. You guys should watch demos on youtube you will be blown away. MS said that there gonna be tight on OEM customization, but I think their still gonna allow some customization for OEM to stand out from the competition. You guys REALLY need to try out the demo site: http://www.windowsphone7series.com/
i think also it is nice and clear - thats what i want - no overfilling with buttons and things from tabs and options on the "homescreen"
it remember me more of that TouchOne skin - where u move up - down - left and right to reach specific screens instead of using a tabsborder. people often forget that we use such phones also in cars and while walking - so we need a sure and failsafe surface with not to small buttons (at least less).
if anybody knows a good and fast! UI for Wm6.5 let me know - new sense is nice looking but still i search for something simplier to use/touch UI
First impressions...
It looks overly simplified, and more like an art project - or a set of 'design placeholders' that mark areas still needed to be finished in detail.
I question a lot of real-life interactivity with the device, it seems a little silly having the text of the hub cropped off screen.
It wouldn't surprise me if the the API's for this are very basic (aka. simple gadgets) - I have a feeling this isn't designed to run apps in the traditional sense.

You could try my game "Sketch Defense". Its a tower defense, but can become "mindless" in the later waves when towers are built up. I'm also the dev and would love some feedback.
There is a trial to see if you like it.

Installing right now. (trial)
Sheesh! The market is so painfully slow to load pages. It is near impossible to scroll through the category pages because of such slow loading. I just MS will fix it.
Just tried to play it and couldn't figure out how to shoot or what to do. I read the "Help me" and it said something about building towers...not on the path...and tried to do that but, for some reason, tapping, holding and dragging, it just wouldn't do anything.
Figured it out...nice!
This is a cool game...love the laser.
Just bought it.
Hey, just an FYI. I just discovered a pretty big bug in the game. Apparently you downloaded an older version though without the bug. Anyway... there is a new version that should be out once Microsoft finishes their testing.
Glad you like it so far!

Yeah, I'm starting to love it. I have the whole path double and sometimes triple lined with lasers and all of them...well...in proximity to the targets...would fire and be blasting the targets. Super cool!. There would be like, maybe, 10 lasers blasting away on one target. The way the lasers fire is reminiscent of physics-correct space combat movies or TV shows.
Also try Project Sunburst, fun times blasting freaks, mutants and suicide cars with lasers, machine guns, rockets, flamethrowers, and you can take control of the weapons for some hands on blasting.
for anybody outside the cover range of US
do you think we can use

Twin Blades is a hack em up + shooter that revolves more around screen mashing controls rather than technique : http://www.bestwp7games.com/twin-blades-the-reaping-vanguard-zombie-hack-n-slash-for-wp7.html
Rocket Riot is much more fun : http://www.bestwp7games.com/rocket-riot-dual-stick-shooter-for-windows-phone-7.html
You might want to try this ( not a shooter , but its a great game )

Sony has a new patent, this is how it looks like:

Article:
http://www.knowyourmobile.com/blog/1341697/sony_patent_reveals_dual_control_xperia_play.html
What do you think?
they submitted this is 2010 or 2011 i believe so dont go thinking its the xplay replacement just yet its been around aslong as the xplay idea.
but sounds good but in use would probably be hell 2 sliders just sounds like its going break easily.
As it stated in the article, just because its a patent doesnt mean Sony will use it. But I must admit my last 2 android phones had hardware keyboards and i just used the GameGripper to overlay my phones keyboard, map out my keys and play my emus. But when I saw the Xperia PLAY I was like I can live with a touchscreen control if I have the gamepad.... and never looked back.
GameGripper
http://www.game-gripper.com/
Still the dual sliding if it works out well and it becomes a reality it could be pretty sweet. But I am taking it with a grain of salt until its confirmed... never the less...... good find and thanks for sharing!
I'm throwing money at the screen but nothing's happening D=
http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/27/sony-dual-slider-patent/
here is a much reliable source for you people and on a much more current date
If they make something like that, let's hope it's designed so the ribbon cables on the inside don't break as easily as they do now. I've seen too many play users fall victim to that design, including myself.
I think having a qwerty AND a gamepad would be amazing. The phone might end up being really bulky though. If that's the case Sony might skimp out on the battery to save space.. Yikes.
Qwerty pads are a must-have for some people and would probably give them a larger market. I personally considered getting an xperia pro, or galaxy glide at one point.
Mind you, I only use Swype these days. But, it would be good to have one for those times when the hands are moist, and the digitizer decides to be overly sensitive.

It seemed like an impossible task. To get more the two audio channels into and out from the Pi over the GPIO header. Lots of people wanted that functionality but no one could work out how to do it. I decided this product would have the potential to completely enable and transform other peoples projects. Not only, that if it could be done on the Pi, it could be done on most other embeded boards. It would empower people by solving what seemed impossible. Beyond that, the outcomes for the developing world would be to put an ultra low cost multitrack recorder into the hands of people who otherwise may never be able to afford it - a sub $150 professional grade multitrack recorder. Who knows what people would invent with it !
I put together a plan and began hacking from paradigm to paradigm, making small incremental steps. It felt like I was building a rocket going to the moon for the first time ! No one ever thinks of low level hardware/software hacking as sexy, so it never makes the news
After months and months of struggling, first with purely analogue electronics, ECL logic and all sorts of tricks, I got really close. Sooo close I could sense the signals were going in the right direction - it just needed a little more. But that little more certainly wasn't going to come from analogue electronics alone. I had to change directions.
I decided to learn VHDL and started using FPGAs. On the weekends, whilst guarding my daughter's infant sleep cycles, I would read free range VHDL on my phone or laptop, gradually grasping this non procedural way of "the hardware". Finally after months, at the digital hardware level, I was able to get 8 channels of audio into and out from the Pi hat. Eureka! It is incredibly reliable. So functionally attractive and reliable that it had to be let out of the box ! And so it began ....
Come join the fun and checkout the Audio Injector Octo Pi kickstarter.
Matt
p.s. It is arguable that $150 is still well out of reach for a lot of people in developing nations.
so you made an 8 track player that has hdmi? thats awesome.
So close to what I'm looking for... an 8 channel audio ADC to HDMI LPCM converter.
Ok, sorry in advance for the thread title. It's true though. Performance (on either desktop or mobile) is incredibly slow.
There are so many ads that load that on mobile a full minute can go by and the whole page still hasn't loaded.
Ad placement is also so terrible that clicking on links often results in clicking on something else completely because an ad loaded late and pushed content down the screen.
Link placement itself is a PITA. Care to guess how many times I've accidentally unsubscribed from forums because the links are so close together?

The problem doesn't really get any better on your mobile app as there are so many missing browsing features as to make it undesirable to use. By undesirable, I mean bamboo shoots under the fingernails would be preferable.
I know money has a part to play in this. I'm sure the budget is tight and you need every penny from ad sales. But the overall usability of the site is going to drive me away (again) because it hasn't been implemented well at all.
I say these things because I care, not because I'm angry. Thanks for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Me
