Hey guys, so been using the Malaysk ROM's for a while and even though it does work, sometimes it takes a long time for GPS to get a good signal (yes I understand needing clear view, weather, etc), but the one thing I noticed when looking at the GPS monitor, if you look at the picture of the map the image for satellites that are used .... it looks like they are satellites on the other side of the world, whereas i'm located in Florida, USA, so shouldn't it be using GPS satellites closer to my location?
Does anybody know if this is actually the case or am I misinterpreting it? How can I set it to use closer satellites, or maybe set the location? I tried in settings to make sure everything was set to correct time zone, etc, but can't find anything else related to GPS.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments? Thanks!!

You have a valid signal, why bother?

Yes, at that time I have one, but it normally takes about 5-10 minutes before it actually gets a valid signal
These units are from China. Not surprisingly, the map is centered on China. Ignore the image, you're not picking up satellite signals traveling through the Earth. If it's taking a long time to lock, the GPS receiver is likely losing its almanac when the unit is powered down. Check your connections to be sure there's a constant 12V on the appropriate wire.

Ahhh I think you may be onto something there, after reading through all that it sounds like exactly my problem ... but i'm at the point now where it's time for an upgrade, but very good to know, thanks for your reply.

Hi! I'm new here. I'm from Bulgaria but I'll be in Serbia for a couple of months.
I have a problem with my location (almost everyday). When I bought my Nexus in August (in Bulgaria) I didn't have that problem, but when I came in Belgrade, Serbia my location is not accurate. It's really strange, everyday I make hundreds of kilometers, and my favorite destination is New Delhi, India. My record is 58 336km and I just made it within a few hours without leaving my house. Yesterday I saw that I'm in Belgrade area (where I live) on the map, but above my picture it says New Delhi, and GNow shows me what's the weather in India. I don't know what's the problem. I know that GPS is not alwaya accurate, but that much? GPS system is the same in every country, it's not something on the ground, it's in space! I feel like I'm underground or in space, it is not normal... I'm in Europe, in Belgrade area... and Serbia is not Iran. Here are some examples:
Belgrade, Serbia

I think it's enough. I'm using Internet through my SIM card and not thorough wireless connection. I'm sorry if I have some mistakes, I'm writing this topic thorough my Nexus. I'm sorry if there's something wrong with bb codes etc, if someone of you is moderator, fix the mistakes
Well, I believe Google Maps uses 3 sources of information to determine your location, which are cell tower location, GPS location and WiFi network location. Even if you are not connected to a WiFi network, it still scans local WiFi hotspots for location information if you have WiFi turned on. It is possible that there is a rogue cell tower or WiFi network in your area that is broadcasting bad location data.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
WiFi network's don't broadcast any location data. Google just builds a database of access points and correlates them with location data acquired by GPS or cell towers. If someone moved and so there WiFi access point is at a different location that could throw things off, but I imagine it wouldn't take long for the access points location to get updated in Google's database.
So, the problem is not from my phone or GPS system, but from cell towers? Sounds logical. I am disappointed, because I can't do anything to fix it. I will probably continue to go around the world from my house, and visit my cousins in New Delhi everyday...
So, hello everyone it's been a while.
For those who wonder what the heck is this guy,
I made this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/themes-apps/edge-navigation-bar-button-t2950486
Anyhow, let's get to the point.
I've been around making this app... called 'On the Edge of the World', or 'the Edge of the World', or 'World Edge' to shorten a lot.
For now, it's quite simple. It basically works in three steps.
1.When loaded,(that is user swipes edge panels and World Edge shows up), it checks gps location.
2.Then it retrieves google maps image from online and shows the image on the edge panel
3.Also, it writes down the address of current location.
I have fooled my phone so that it thinks that I am at the Statue of Liberty, Liberty Island.
See the image below of the prototype I have worked on.

GPS locations are not re-called automatically after once it's loaded due to battery issue.
You can refresh your GPS location manually by clicking that Compass icon below, though.
(Yes, it's the icon from Safari. Sorry Jobs, I have always been shameless about stealing great icons.)
So that's basically it, at least for now.
What do you think? Too gimmicky?
What kind of functionality does this app need to become a killer-app?
Let me know.
Reserved just in case
Good work again. And what about battery use?
Possibly a GPS navigation system using just the edge with voice prompts. It can display an arrow when you need to turn(flashing arrow for a hundred meters or so) and have the voice telling you where to go. Make sure it has downloadable maps so it doesn't cost using wireless internet.
Good enough idea for you?

Similarly to the Google Maps micro on Wear? I could get down with that!
Love the idea, can't wait to see it in action!
******Update******
So I have my replacement phone and my old S6 Edge was messed up! I posted a comment in another thread about slowdown and terrible jank and stuff. This new one I just received is quick. There's some animation issues, but for the most part it's a night and day difference between my old one and this new one. Anyway along with that I used GPS Test app and compared the two. The new one didn't lose "Fix" for over 5 minutes. The old S6 Edge lost it 17 times in 5 minutes.
It appears to have been a hardware issue.
So my GPS is messed up! Anyone else having this issue?

This is not ideal. The S6 Edge is broken... at least mine is. Sometimes it will work flawlessly for miles, then have a hick up here and there. Other times it's a mess.

Awesome, I'll give it a try now, but before I do, did you restore the phone or set it up as a new phone?

i always just start off as a new phone
Factory Reset and Restore along with wiping cache partition. All failed. I'm still not getting GPS.
I called T-Mobile and they sent me a new GS6 Edge NDA. Should be here today, if this is also broken, I'm unfortunately gonna leave the S6. I heavily rely on GPS. It's more important to me than a camera. Yes I'm hinting at the M9 lol, but even then I'm not entirely sure I want that phone either.
Dammit Samsung/T-Mobile
We went through some basic troubleshooting and I am on "high accuracy mode" and location services enabled, etc.
Anyway here's more screenshots on my way to work, first pic shows it not working, it found me for a second when I got to "Pecos" then it found me completely using GPS, then lost me again. The last image is me walking to work. I have a 10 minute walk from where I park in Downtown Denver to work. The entire walk it was searching for GPS. That's the last image.
My co-worker with a S5 introduced me to an App called "GPS Test" and he was able to get 18 GPS sites, I literally have none. So something is definitely wrong with this one. I will go home and test it out again on the new phone and see if there's an improvement.
Have you found any solution to ur gps issue? If you have sorted up, please let us know. My GPS status app also could not find any satellites
Just noticed today that the Google Fit - Fit Activity App run tracker works on standalone gps on the sw3!
Seemed to work pretty well for me. Ghostracer has not been working so well for me last week or two so it came at a good time.
It does work very well indeed. The fit challenge is now in the fit activity app, but they should really combine all the functions in one app.
I think it's brilliant, saves having a whole load of other fitness trackers to sort through - finally all in one place with one app.
Just one fault/question - it is supposed to be able to track your heart rate if you have it on a Smartwatch, which the SW3 doesn't have. Instead I have the Jabra Pulse Sport for heart rate tracking, which has smart Bluetooth, but I can't for the life of me get it to connect to Google Fit.
Does it map your run for you on a map? Or just calculating distance, etc.

It maps it for you.
I found this out recently as well and have since uninstalled other run tracking apps
I use now endomondo, because of gps... however it doesn't pre-plot a route for you to follow, only plots where you've been. gtdRR, so you're saying fit does provide a plotted route? Wow, then I will install fit and try it.
update: The app was already on the watch, tried it but I never saw a map? Endomondo lets you see a map
How do you enable standalone gps on the SW3 for Google Fit?

you just start a Fit activity and it connects to gps automatically even when not connected to the phone.
I just find it strange the it always shows me a slower pace than ghostracer
How does it sync the GPS data after the run? In my case it seems to stay in the watch forever unlike Ghostracer, which syncs very nicely.
You are right, a 5km run can take more than 1 hour to be visible on the phone.
During this time, the run disappear from the watch, and you won't have any idea if the data is lost or not.
The experience is horrible.
But at the end, that's fine, after the frustration
Yeah have the same experience, has anyone find a easy way to export from google fit to endomondo as I have a challenge going on there? right now im using takeout.google.com but that takes for ever.
My Endomondo smartwatch app keeps uninstalling (non english setup). so I use google fit.
And lost a workout do to Endomondos faling sync.

This is what I got on my first test today
I just did 'Start Activity' on the phone.
It did track my distance, not sure what happened to GPS.
SAD PANDA
I can't find the "start activity " option on the watch. There is only open on phone option. Anyone else with similar problem?
Fit doesn't have one on the watch
Fit has a "start activity" button on the watch Otherwise there are also another app called "start activity" in the app list on the watch.

I have the latest version available on my play store but no start activity option.
I'm new to android radio, having looked but not touched for a long time.
I have a 2015 Jetta and for my birthday my family got me a Burger Motorsports JB4 (Piggyback tuner), and an XTRONS radio (PX5 8 core 4GB unit.)
The JB4 unit uses the CANBUS to keep track of engine parameters while it modifies signals between the engine and ECU to control boost, fuel pressure, and timing. Officially BMS says it won't work if you have other devices connected to the CANBUS and say it is due to bandwidth issues. If the JB4 detects that it isn't getting enough information across the CANBUS it defaults down to a safer tune.
I've discovered that as long as the radio boots after the JB4 they seem to play nicely together, for the most part. But this means the XTRONS software loses lots of settings every time I start the car.
I'm looking for a way to control what and how much the Radio uses the CANBUS for, I think if I could limit it to steering wheel controls and reverse camera I would be happy, or even just delay the CANBUS connection in the car for 30 seconds. The other path would be to flash a ROM that keeps all its settings when it is rebooted but I haven't seen that issue addressed in the HAL9000 or Malaysk threads.
Is there a way to modify what the CANBUS module is looking for? Would other ROMS tolerate being rebooted better?
Hi Profsnakes,
I am currently working on modification of some images in canbus.apk file
I am not sure you can get more from your car by just modifying the software, it depends mainly on the canbus adapter you are using
Have a nice day

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I don't know or understand much about the development side of this stuff. I've worked as an electrical technician for years and have a good understanding of how a Canbus works but not the programming or design side of the stuff attaching to it.
Rather than getting more out of it, I was hoping actually to be able to limit how much it used the network somehow. Even just reducing how often it polls the network. The other device I have attached requires a constant data stream from the ECU.
At this point, I have narrowed the problem down. While it would still be good to limit the bandwidth used by the radio. It seems the error I was having was being caused by the USB connection between the radio and the tuner when the car was starting up. So far disconnecting the USB when the car is off and reconnecting after it turns on seems to keep it stable. I ordered a USB "KVM" style switch that I'm hoping will keep me from having to open the glovebox all the time.
Heres what I've got going.
