Im in a rush so im going to make this quick, I tried to root my htc one m8 and it got suck in a boot loop. I then made the foolish mistake, of wiping the whole thing after getting into TWRP. So now im pretty sure there's no longer an OS on it. It's S-on and unlocked. Help?
If you phone was on Marshmallow, your mistake was probably using an old version of SuperSU (which was not updated to root MM). Bootloop or no boot is a common result of this.
You can restore the OS by finding the appropriate (for your CID) stock TWRP backup from the collection, and restoring it. Needed files and instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Or alternately, if an RUU exists for your version, relock the bootloader and RUU back to stock.
If you need more help on any of this (such as determining what version), when you have more time do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).

Hi guys
i have bricked my m8 phone, i can get to the fastboot usb menu it says relocked s-on, but i have deleted the os somehow and it doesnt seem to go to the twrc options menu, maybe because i have relocked it. is there a way to get the phone back to stock or is it a case of buy another phone.
thanks

Hi,
I had an issue similar.
I have completely solved with the EXE version of the stock rom when I thought I had to say goodby to my M8.
Take a look on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/return-to-stock-supersu-help-t3170097 from post #8
This EXE has worked perfectly while fastboot commands and file on SD has failed.
good luck

mat what's your CID num?
CID is not really interesting, more interesting is the main software version and bootloader version (both can be found in the bootloader menu) especially with s-on. The ruu must match or have a slight higher number as the current build number.
In the worst case you must unlock it, flash twrp and restore a matching backup if available !
I tried to go through the process of rooting earlier and I think I have now "soft bricked" my phone as I didn't really know what I was doing.
I managed to unlock my bootloader, I have TWRP 2.8.7.0 installed but now when I turn on my phone I'm stuck at fastboot. (S-ON)
Would it be possible for anyone to advise me if anything can be done? any solution is fine, back to stock or rooted whatever would be the easiest solution.
This was my 1st attempt at trying to root and I wasn't really sure what I was doing, I take full responsibility for being an idiot! any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Need more info about the phone. Do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
Why did you use an old version of TWRP? Current version is 3.0.2-0
How did you flash TWRP?
Did you try to root (flash SuperSU) after flashing TWRP? Or just tried to reboot after flashing TWRP?
Good Evening Helpful People,
I'm currently in a predicament with my M9 Dev Edition on trying to upgrade to the latest Android 7 firmware...
I forgot to make a stock backup using TWRP while S-Off to restore a factory state to use the RUU.exe from the HTC site, and I'm having troubles upgrading to 3.35.617.31 to have the "base" to take the 4.14.617.6 RUU.exe successfully.
**I'm currently on 3.35.617.21
*I understand how to change my CID and MID with S-OFF
*I can not find a stock 3.35.617.21 recovery.img to allow the RUU.exe to work
*I have no intentions to turn my S-OFF to S-ON
*I'm un-rooted "TWRP Backup Save" (No SuperSU) with TWRP as my custom recovery
*I can re-root whenever needed.
*ADB and Fastboot drivers are totally fine
I know that there is probably 3 or 4 different ways to go about my problem and I like to be resourceful on my own, but I would super appreciate it if someone here would lead me on the right track!

I'm a little confused - what problem are you running into with the Android 7.0 RUU (4.19.617.1.) from the HTC website? A non-stock recovery shouldn't be an obstacle to using a RUU. Assuming you're not worried about your phone being reset to factory*, you can use the RUU executable or install it via the SD card method.
I'm still learning, so maybe I'm missing something obvious - please let me know.
* As you know, your internal memory is wiped and your phone returned to stock system & recovery - but I'm pretty sure you don't lose S-OFF from RUUs. I've used RUUs several times since getting S-OFF and still have it.
hi to all ...i have htc one m8 ( lollipop) and i need to update to marshmallow but i cant because i have root my phone /..what can i do to unroot my phone and get updates easily ?
There is a tutorial on how to do this, sticky near the top of the forum section: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
In short, you can't just "unroot". You need to restore a stock TWRP backup (stock ROM - never rooted) as unrooting a ROM will not work. Then restore stock recovery.
The other option, if your version M8 has an RUU, relock bootloader, then run the RUU. But note, this will wipe all data on the phone. If you want more advice on your M8 version, do fastboot getvar all, and post the result (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
Hi guys. I used to be up on my HTC flashing etc. but I've moved away from them over the last couple of years and a friend has come to me with a problem and I'm not sure what to suggest.
Please see attached image for reference to software/hboot/radio versions etc.
Basically I've quizzed him on what he's done to get to this state. He hasn't tried to flash a rom or new hboot, root, s-off or anything like that. In fact I'm pretty certain he wouldn't know where to start. He said it was charging overnight and in the morning it would only boot to hboot. Selecting any of the options from there results in a blank screen before eventually looping back to hboot.
Any help or guidance I what to try would be massively appreciated. Thanks!
Your friend has a variant of the M8, known as the M8s.
It might be tough to find an RUU tool to restore the device, or a stock TWRP backup (stock ROM).
If no RUU for that OS number, restoring a stock TWRP backup (if you can find the right one) would be an involved process:
- unlock bootloader
- install TWRP custom recovery
- restore the right stock TWRP backup
So not sure how far you want to go with this. My experience with the M8s is limited, and resources for the "s" variant are also limited.
