Slow charging on stock charger - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just got myself a Nexus 5X and running latest March update.
I am seeing that the charging rate is really slow when screen is on and decent with screen off.
Is this normal?

Yea this is normal.
If you search there is a whole thread about it.

You're phone is on the hot side, judging by the battery temperature. That's causing it to slow the charging rate for safety.

definitely this.
if im playing a video game and plug it in after im done, it'll say something crazy like 9h to full charge, even for some time after pluggin it in since the charging keeps the phone warm itself.
this is by design.

Bizarre Battery Log

What is up with my battery readings. My phone is always making bizarre jumps like this. Notice the two vertical changes.

There are actually 3. One drop which is not accompanied by the charging and 2 increases one of them severe.
Its actually the initial drop that makes it bizarre. The battery isn't that old or that worn so corrections to read capacity shouldn't be severe. Discrepancies while charging can be explained a little easier. All depends on the battery controllers methods of reading while charging and how the OS samples the data from that. As i say its the drop that confuses me.
I would definitely say a calibration is in order before further investigation unless some knowledge is out there.
I've also noticed battery drops like that for me where it drops about 30% and was caused by random reboots from flashing new roms.

I can't exactly trace back to what I was doing when, but I'm pretty sure I started doing stuff online (browsing xda, currents, Google now) right there at the CPU/battery drain spike. That's when the heat cranks up. But as I'm typing this post right now in the xda app, the phone is cooling back down...
What's going on? Is there a fix?

I think overheating is what caused my gnex to crash. My screen was jumping like this picture I took.
I'm not too sure what happened.

That screenshot is erroneous and useless dude. How is it "overheating"? Did it shut down? There's thermal management that will throttle it down if it gets too hot, but is the phone actually shutting down/crashing/burning you? What app is eating up CPU? Did you look at logcats? What's the actual temp?

Deep Sleep

Using system monitor, it shows very low time spent in deep sleep, does this happen to anyone else?

While my Note 3 uses almost no battery with its screen off, 3G/Wifi on, my 2014 Note 10.1 is not so battery friendly (screen off). It wouldn't amaze me if Samsung hasn't optimized the Kernel/ROM as well as they did on the Note 3 yet. It is another chipset (Exynos vs Snapdragon) so much of this difference could lie there.

What Kind of Battery Life are You Seeing?

Long story short, I just won a Zenfone 2 and it will be here in a few days. Checking out all the specs and reviews, I feel pretty sure I am gonna use it over my current phone which is an LG G3. The main reason I am switching is because the battery life on the G3 has been awful. Like 100% at 7am when I get up and down to 30% by lunch. I even have a Pebble watch so I don't even pull my phone out of my pocket most of the time. So I wanted to know what kind of battery life the ZF2 seems to get. I can't imagine it would be any worse, but thought I'd ask before I go through the trouble of swapping everything over.
Thanks in advance,
Karl

Dude, thats awesome! Thanks! Way better than my G3.
With my 550 I generally get about 4 to 6 hours SOT depending on what I am doing with it.

Slow charging and heating

Despite this phone being just perfect in every other way, a couple of things about it is just frustrating the heck out of me. I don't know if it's just my device or if this is a normal thing, but my Pixel XL charges SUPER slowly. Taking about as long as an iPhone to reach 100% on low percentage and 40 minutes to an hour with 50% and above. My 6p charges faster than this using the same charger. Not only that, but my phone gets really warm when charging and slightly warm with general use. Does anyone else experience this?

I experienced just yesterday. Normally the phone charges about 1% every minute for me, but yesterday it was 1% every two minutes or something, got really annoyed, turned off the phone, charged normally! And yes, there was a little bit of heat too, nothing complaining worthy but it was there, but then again I use a full back case, which I will remove shortly. The phone/SoC has some thermal throttling surely, cause several times I noticed the phone's performance would drop down severely while charging.
