Hi,
I have an android headunit installed in my car. I have installed the Malaysk ROM & all works fine. Is there a way to get SMS notifications on the head unit from my phone? I've tried tablettalk & mightytext but cant get them to work.
Many thanks in advance for any help!
mighty text worked fine for me
I have nexus 6p stock rom and a vw 2016 head unit. Everything works really well except that there is no sms or hangouts notification sound. The whole idea of Android Auto is about safety so I can't believe this is deliberate as you have to take your eyes off the road to look for visual notifications on the car screen as there are no audible notifications. Any ideas about this?
You have to press bluetooth button on HU to hear sounds out of phone it appears. Or use another app like mightytext to push texts to HU which is what I do.

"Android Auto" head units have actually nothing to do with the MTCB Android head units, they are a completely different system even if it's called Android.

But mightytext needs to be connected to the internet with network other than bluetooth?
My phone when in the car uses mobile data through network but for some reason mighty text doesnt get signal through the bluetooth connection of phone to car. OR am I doing something wrong?
To explain my befuddled answer, if I am home in driveway and have phone and car on the phone connects to car with bluetooth, great, and car connects to house through wifi, great mightytext works fine, but if i turn off wifi in car HU then mightytext says no internet connection so no texts.
is there a way to connect mightytext through bluetooth?

No, as far as bluetooth tethering is not available in this type of HUs.
You could try to create a wifi hotspot from your smartphone to the HU to give it Internet access.
Otherwise you could try using the screen mirroring.
Yes that may be the easiest and maybe use NFC chip in car to activate it quickly. Thanks

I dont supose you know of a different dialer I can use for the HU as I am looking for one that is a bit more user friendly with a few speed dial presets. my old kenwood unit had 3 presets and that was better than none. cheers

No replacement available (and IMHO even possible without hard program coding) for the provided Bluetooth dialer... its functionality is unfortunately only "basic"...
I was hoping to find an app that would do the trick but looks like i am dreaming. thanks
Would tablet talk app work?
Worth a look thanks
I got it to work by installing headphone sms from Google play on my mobile device. Then it connects via Bluetooth to head unit.
So headphone sms reads the texts to you over the head unit? or does it popup a notification so you can read it? thanks
As soon as you get a text 5 seconds later it announces the callers name or phone number then reads text. When text is done it goes back to source you were listening to.
hmmmm thanks for that

AFAIK that is an app that announces and reads the SMS on any Bluetooth headphone, so also the HU is treated as a BT headphone.
Therefore no popups or any text showed on the HU display, only audio listened.
Just Installed it - Looking forward to trying it o the way home!

Has any one been successful in transferring their Phone book via bluetooth to the car's phone book? If so, can you please let me know how?
I have an Acura TL 2008 and it has this option but I cannot seem to transfer even one single contact via bluetooth to the car let alone a whole phone book. I can pair perfectly and make and receive phone calls.
I am using Vp3G's WM6 3.0 version and I have Tmobile USA with unlimited internet. For radio, I am using the latest 1.51.
Is it the limitation of the Hermes or limitation of the Bluetooth in the Hermes?
Thanks.
Shamim
It's definitely not a limitation of the Hermes... I can upload my contacts to car set via Bluetooth. I don't have an Acura though... sorry.

If you right click a contact, do you get the option to send via bluetooth? I do not and am wondering if something needs to be set or turned on.
Thanks.
Use the Jeyo bluetooth software. It will most likely transfer all your stuff to your car with no problems.
http://www.jetwaremobile.com/
It will do SMS messages too. You can even set it to use a different MAPI store such as email. Although there is a character limit that makes it kind of useless.
I have an Audi with MMI and it transfers fine, there is a short delay though after starting it up till the phonebook is available
Bluetooth & Infiniti
I wonder if anyone has had any experience with this utility and a 2007 Infiniti G35x that has the nav / tech package. I can pair my HTC TyTN just fine and use the basic bluetooth functions. I can even send one contact entry at a time but haven't figured out how to send my entire phonebook. I wonder if this app will help.
Anyone have any experience with this phone / car combo?
Thanks everyone for the jetware info. I will give it a shot and reply.

I bet it is a setting issue for the Acura. The Ford Sync system will ask, "Do you want to load phonebook?" right after it pairs...
It works - JETware Mobile Software
Upon suggestion from 'Diaftia' in this thread (THANK YOU!) I downloaded Hands-free Extension from JETware and installed it on my HTC TyTN. I then sat in my car and through the phonebook 'send' mode of the applet, I chose to send all 354 contact records to my car's phonebook via the bluetooth pairing. The car immediate showed 'downloading' at the appropriate time and viola! They were there.
I need to play with it some more to see if I can get more than the first phone number field to download. The Hands-free Extension app does allow you to pick only certain categorized phone records to be sent.
I've since purchased the utility and will explore more of its features! So far, so great! I've been looking for this solution for quite sometime!

David

David,
I installed the software but did not see a Send option. I was able to select the categories on contacts that I wanted for the phonebook.
Where was the Send option? In the Jetware software or your car?
Thanks.
shamim
In the Extension software from the menu, go to phonebook options. In phonebook options select the categories that you wish to send to the phone. Press the 'menu' soft key option again. You will see 5 options, of which 'send contacts' is one of them. You will then get another set of options and finally a confirmation before it sends the records. Make sure your car or receiving device is set to receive before you finalize the send process.

Same Problem with Pioneer

Well, I have experienced exactly the same problem with my Pioneer, I am able to send one by one contact to the car but I am not able to send the entire phonebook at once. When I try to do that then the bluetooth connection is getting disconnected and that is it. I wonder if that is a problem with the bluetooth driver,
I had a heck of a problem with importing to my new Audi A4 Pervertable, and worse it kept loosing connectivity then re-establisign it (mid song no less). Eventually fixed with BT Radio 1.50, (tried everything before it).
I don't know whether this is relevant or not. This is how I do it.
I have a Garmin Nuvi 610. When pairing the device with my Hermes all I have to do is make sure comm port service is enabled in the hermes bluetooth utility when asked for service type. If it's not enabled then there won't be any sharing of phonebook between them.

I currently use the JetWare Mobile extension ver 1.31 that I updated several days ago and now I can use Voice Command via bluetooth hear and give commands through the car stereo system.
I can also hear announcements of calls, emails via the stereo system. Sorry got off subject...
With this software I'm pretty sure that you will be able to upload your address book. I had no problem with 275+ contacts....
They have a free trial you could try to ensure that it works for you, but it's not free...
If memory serves me think it was about $15, well worth it if your a heavy BT user.

Jac,
Thanks for the info. I already gave jetware a shot but it did not work for me. I do not get the "Send" option on my contacts or phonebook through Jetware or Outlook contacts on the TyTN. I am using Radio 1.51 and Jetware extension 1.31. If I got the Send option, it would work. For Voice command 1.6, do you use the option 'use bluetooth when available" or the option "use bluetooth only".
Thanks for being helpful.

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you...
I know in my case, it took me a couple times to figure out how to upload the the contacts to the car stereo using Jetware...
First time was: I did not go into... Hand-free Setting\Menu\Advanced Options\ And check off Phonebooks.
Second time was: I did not leave the car stereo phonebook settings "waiting to accept data" before I sent all the contacts from my PDA.
Any way back to your last question "About VoiceCommand 1.6" I use the setting "Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free only"....
Thanks,
Good luck on your quest...
Hi guys
I have Skoda Octavia with full carkit abilities, this is my 1st car to have a carkit so please forgive my questions if they seem silly
I can pair my TP2 no problem in that...and my phonebook sync and every thing regarding the calls is ok
but the sms do not transfare by bluetooth to the car , can't receieve or read , or even hear a notification when i got sms ...only the incoming calls that makes sound when iam paird.. no sms sound or alarm or any thing !!!
so
1- why i can't have sms function on my carkit ?
2- why i can't at least have a notification for the sms or alarm?
3- the car cataloge say that i should have on the screan a setup list that i can manege the bluetooth from it ..and i cant find any setup list for the phone or the bluetooth !!!
4- can't i listen to mp3s using my TP2 on my car ?
i found some threads talking about some pairing prob but coudnt find answers on my questions
hope u can help me guys
help guyz
i bought a car kit MP3 player for my car. I paired it with my TP2 and enabled the "BT Audio" and "BT Handsfree". Outgoing calls work fine with no problems at all. But during incoming calls there is a problem. If the incoming call is from someone saved in my contacts, the BT carkit does not ring. If its from an unknown number (not saved in my contacts), it works perfectly. I tried all the tweaks and hacks in this forum but nothing worked. Anymore ideas.
samarrai,
sms/txts are not meant to transfer their notification sounds via bluetooth unless you're car is set to "BT Audio" or similar for music streaming from your phone. When in this mode, ALL notification sounds that go to your phone will be played through your music speakers. If you want it to work like this while listening to the radio, I'd suggest getting the radio cab for your phone and using it as your tuner (car-charger recommended, as you'll eat away battery power like crazy).
As for hearing the notifications while playing a CD or other media, best advice I can give is building a carputer
Hope this helps you - Mark

Sorry Samarrai... there has to be some setting on your head unit you arent selecting in order to have your texts show up on the screen. I know with the microsoft sync head units in ford cars its all really straight forward and I've had a chance to play around with those some but not the unit you're talking about. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer and asking them? It's probably a super easy solution that you may have overlooked when setting it up.
It always is!

@ Samarri.
Here is what I've been able to find out about various blue tooth enabled car stereos, more specifically those with an LCD screen.
Take a few minutes of your day & look into the settings of the stereo, there SHOULD be an option to update the stereo. a.k.a. Flash the stereo. If there is, look at what options it has for updating, some offer blue tooth update ability, others offer wifi over your cell phone internet.
In either case, you should more then likely need to update the stereo. Once the update is done, I'm almost 100% certain that your stereo will show the sms on the lcd screen.
More specifically your stereo, there IS an update available for it, and from what I read of the manual your stereo updates via blue tooth, so you will need to get a laptop or other way to get the file downloaded then pair it with your stereo, & update it.

Does it even say anything about showing your text messages on your carkit in the manual? If not it likely doesnt even support that feature and there for the problem is sort of mute cause it cant be done.

This is another thing my friend
i have the car manual and the radio manual they both printed 2009.
in the car service manual, it said that if my phone GSM III (which i dont know what dose it means) then i can have sms pairing showing my txt on the car screan (the Maxidot small screan which infront of the stearing wheel) that among other only GSMIII features like phone book pairing.
and casue i do have the phone book in the car screan i thought then iam GSM III !!! it said also there is also a bluetooth setup in the phone menu on the Maxidot screan, which also i don't have!!
in the radio manual there is more details about what will work on GSM III only .. but not one word about the sms function in the radio manual !! BUT may be cause they r talking on what appear on the Bolero Radio big screan ?!!! and sms and bluetooth setup only appear on the Maxidot small scran
here is 2 pages from the manual under the phone section talking about the sms function

Maybe it means a triband gsm phone? I have no idea... Get in touch with the manufacturer and find out.
I know having the phone book sync to the car doesnt require anything special for a phone just simple bluetooth I think. I set up a friends car stereo for them with their crappy flip phone that had bluetooth and was able to get the phonebook to come over so that cant be related.
Really, I doubt you'll find what you are looking for here. There's too many unknown variables that have to be taken into account here. You'll have to find out directly from the makers of your stereo how to do what you want to do. Once they tell you what you are supposed to do if you cant figure out how to do it with your phone, once you know what settings you have to have on your stereo, then come back and I'm sure someone can give you advice but right now we're sort of trying to troubleshoot for you blind.

u r right on the money in what u said my friend
I will try contacting the stero makers and see where it will leads me
thankx for ur help my friend
I found out what is the problem my friend through a skoda octavia forum
the GSM II and III is not something related to the phone, but its something related to the bluetooth of the car kit !!
the GSM II u have access as u said to the phone book also but with it u can access ur phone normaly and use any data connection funtion on it ( use the internet , update weather , ..... )
In the latest GSM III it access the phone using the RSap which disable the phone it self so as long u r hocked to the car , u can't use the phone but through the car , and so the sms , voice mail , ... are paired with the car kit to access them from there
i dont know if this GSM thing is a software i can update it or its a hardware thing, but what i know is that im surprsie that my brand new 2010 octavia have the GSM II not III
Same story here for me,((
but did you finally get to know whether its a software can be updated or its hardware issue???
Quick question whether there is an app, mod, or even build.prop edit that would allow my Note II to automatically try to connect to my car's single din Kenwood KDC‑BT952HD. Only thing the head unit tries to do when connected is re-download contacts, but it turns on as soon as my car turns on and it'd be a lot faster if my Note automatically attempted to connect to the head unit instead of the bluetooth popup with listed devices, which I don't even have considering I'm running Whompasaurus V2.9. so if there's any way I could even get the pop up that'd be great too!
I use Tasker to turn on Bluetooth and connect to my earpiece. But I need a trigger and I need to turn on my earpiece. The trigger I use is activating my map app.
So without a trigger, I don't know how to do that.
I'm new to tasker and I'm not sure how to enable the auto-connect through tasker.
I am new to Tasker too.
Task / Net / Bluetooth
will turn on/off/ toggle Bluetooth
Task / plugin / Secure Settings (separate app) / BT Connect
Will connect to your chosen Bluetooth device.
My best advice is to play around. Also, here is the first of a 3 video series on Tasker.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEhnOJl5mTo&feature=youtube_gdata_player
maybe I'm missing something here, so may suggestion by be complete off.
Maybe leaving BT tunred on your GN2 before you get in your car. Or turned it on before you get in the car. I'm assuming the ROM you're using has a BT toggle. The thinking is that your headunit will try to automatically connect to any paired BT devices. If so, the GN2 should automatically connect when the deck does it's search.
This works for me when I try connecting to Jawborn Big Jambox or Jawbone Era or other BT devices I have paired on my GN2. It may be worth nothing I'm on a deoxidized stock rom. But I this also worked when I ran AOSP roms on my Evo 4G such as CM.
If the headunit does not do a pair device search and connect when it turns on, then I would definitely try suggest above. I have no clue, and that's better than nothing.
no autoconnect on GN2
Once you had a BT connection with your car and leave it at the gas station e.g. it won't reconnect when you're back!
Sad, but since then I tried the mighty Tasker and similar apps, but was happy with the app called "Bluetooth Auto Connect".
You can define the simple trigger, when display on....
So whenever I get back into the car, I hit either the menu or start button, that's it. Without unlocking you are back connected.
The only other annoying thing that you might be able to fix with Tasker is, that right after the A2DP establishes the connection the player starts playing the last song, which I obviously don't want most of the time.
Also Play Pause Next etc over BT doesn't work too well on android.
I have a Alpine head unit and as long as my bt is on before I start the car everything syncs automatically.

I have a Kenwood Dnx6980, and my experience has been that once my phone has been setup to sync ... The Kenwood will talk to it automagically.
This is using AOSP or non stock roms. Ofc.

Bluetooth autoconnect's main feature works for my xperia pro (turn on bluetooth, connect to your selected devices in automatic)
Bluetooth autoconnect's tasker plugin is not working for me. I can use it, sort off, but it does nothing. Like, "Press the button, but there was no reply!"
Well that is odd. I have a Pioneer unit and my phone connects to it as soon as it detects it in range. Even if I turn off BT and then power it on, the phone automatically connects to the head unit without any intervention on my part. Sounds like an issue with your stereo.
No stereo issue. On some of the touch wiz based roms bluetooth DOES NOT auto connect. On most (if not all) aosp roms bluetooth DOES auto connect. Currently on ma7 stock with root and it auto connects. When I was on whomp, jellybombed, and labrats

Bluetooth Connection
Hi Guys,
Im glad i found this thread, im wondering if anyone could help me out.
My scenario is, my bluetooth is connected to my car radio playing files. When a call comes in, i need it to disconnect from the car radio and connect to my bluetooth headset, all without turning off bluetooth ( preferable )
My possible solutions are:
1 ) By using automagic, ive managed to get alot done with this app, but this seems beyond it.
2 ) Getting automagic to start an application when a call comes in which will force bluetooth connection to a specific bluetooth device and disconnected from other devices.
Anyone got any suggestions?

not sure of your rom, but both TW and CM allow you to set whether each connection is Media or Phone. put your headset to phone and your car to media only. when you answer the phone the headset should take over.

I use Tasker to turn on Bluetooth and connect to my earpiece. But I need a trigger and I need to turn on my earpiece. The trigger I use is activating my map app.
So without a trigger, I don't know how to do that.

Could you share how you did this? I am completely confused by the interface.
I am wanting the same setup but also for music player and Pandora
I haven't found an example to follow that even comes close.

[EDIT]
The first few minutes of that video answered my questions.

Hi everyone,
Got my black Z1c yesterday, love it so far!
However, when I try to use it in my car (Audi A6 2008), I cannot place a call if it was initiated from the car's interface.
The phone connects to BT no probs and shows my car in the devices list as a headset. Incoming calls are reflected on the car's display, and connected to the speaker's/mic of the car. When I place a call from the phone itself - same deal, all works as expected. But when I use the car's controls to dial a number, the car's display shows "connecting", and nothing happens...
Tried to pair/unpair many times, no success. Tried other phones, like iPhone 5, Samsung Ativ S (WP8), Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, HTC One - all work seamlessly. My old Xperia Z was working fine, until I sold it to get the Z1c... I would never expect Z1c to behave like this...
Anyone has similar issues?
Yes mine is the same (ford sync)

Bluetooth is a wireless protocol for exchanging data over short distances from fixed and mobile devices, creating personal area networks.
There are two important parameters of Bluetooth devices - class and supported profiles.
"Class" signifies the distance at which a Bluetooth connection is possible. Most mobile devices are Class 2, which means they have a range of up to 10 m. Class 1 devices are rare and have a range of up to 100 feet.
A "profile" is a type of Bluetooth connection. The most common are the Headset (HSP) and Handsfree (HFP) profiles that enable the device to connect to a wireless headset or handsfree.
Some other profiles are OBEX (OBject EXchange) which allows transfer of files, contacts and events; A2DP, which adds support for streaming of stereo sound and AVRC, which allows remote control of playback.

try clear caches. All kinds of caches. When I say all kinds, I mean all caches that you can clean. Retry what you want to do. If it does not help, try factory reset and retry your bluetooth connection. if it still does not help, try flash firmware. I guess this is the solution you can count on.

Thanks, will try. The phone was just outta box when I was trying it in my car... The car was the first BT device it has ever been paired wtih...
Phone calls work fine on mine.
BUT while we're on the topic of vehicle BT, has anyone got working song info via bluetooth? I thought it was supposed to support avrcp 1.3, but in my car (2013 Ford SYNC) I still get no info about songs I'm listening to and also the voice commands for playing artists or albums don't work.
/Daniel
I use it with my new Golf and the phone functions works as expected but the song info does not show. But they never do with Android phones. My 5s works of course

In my Toyota Auris 2013 model song info always worked with Walkman app assuming you have tags filled out correctly.
I know there were some issues with tag info in Poweramp I prefer to use but they got that fixed recently. Advanced options to display song info on external BT device is just buried deep in app's settings though.
Everything works fantastic on my BMW F10 (2012) with Navigation Professional, Bluetooth Music with Song Info, Phone with contact pictures (! Didn't even know that was possible until I got the Z10c) and full Message Access Profile with historic E-Mail and SMS access.
The In-Car integration is the main reason why I am torn between iPhone 5s and Xperia Z1c.
The iPhone has the Advantage of "BMW Apps", which allow using Webradio, Facebook, RSS Feeds etc. through the Navigation, as well as iPod Control and Coverart Display.
The Z10 can't do those things, but it can do Bluetooth MAP which is rather important to me also. Webradio can of course be streamed via BT (and controlled on the phone).
So i deiced to get the 10" Joying rx3188 unit with android 5.1.1 that recently came on the market. So far I rooted it and got it set mostly how i want, but I discovered an issue with bluetooth. Basic phone pairing and functionality works properly and ive also paired my OBD2link MX unit with it as well for the torque app, which works fine as well. the issue i'm having is that other apps that would use bluetooth, think that bluetooth is disabled on the unit. when i try to have them use bluetooth, they ask if they can turn bluetooth on. Selecting yes hangs the app and i have to force end the app to stop it. Even if i go in to torque, it reads bluetooth as disabled even tough the app itself works fine otherwise.
It seems as if the OS is not properly flagging to apps that bluetooth is turned on as far as i can tell. Is there a workaround for this, or something i can do to signal to apps installed that bluetooth is indeed enabled on the HU?

Sorry i don't understand, Torque is working for you or not?
But, what's the "bluetooth name" of your device? Because to work properly i think it must be "OBD" or "OBD2", otherwise you have to search an Xposed module that can help you.
I'm having the exact same problem with the same unit also on Lollipop. I've notified the developer in the Forum post below and he is looking into it. This now makes a total of 3 people with the same problem.

what apps are you having problems with?
also, what car did you put it in? How does it look? 10 inch screen sounds awesome
I'm having two problems right now. The first is that I am unable to pair my Logitech k810 keyboard, and I am unable to connect to a Bluetooth dongle that is used by my radar detector / laser Jammer with an application called Alp connect. I've found quite a few bugs with this head unit and I'm reporting them all to the developer. It works okay my main concern is that it is quite sluggish and I think that is due to the one gigabyte of RAM and lollipop. I installed it in a 2011 Subaru Impreza

I'm fully on board with the concept "your money your car, do what you want" but what do you use a keyboard for in the car?
Quite often I'm too lazy to unpack my laptop when I have to compose a lengthy email on the go so I prefer to do it with a keyboard rather than try to use the touch screen to bash out a couple paragraphs.

Torque is working, but if you go to adapter status in torque i shows BT not enabled. And thats the issue, the BT status is off when apps check it. For torque, it does not try to turn on BT to function. other apps do, and when they do, they hang.
I need to somehow flag BT as on for other apps so they dont say they need to turn on BT to work.

apps like tablet talk, or obdlink or solostorm. all think BT is off, and try to turn it on when you want to use the BT obd2 adapter.
its in a Mazda MX-5.

If your objective is to solve the problem get a usb keyboard. They work. If your objective is to get bluetooth keyboards working you might have to wait a long time.
Well, I hope you are wrong as my previous NewsMy NU3001 head unit worked perfectly with it. I'm aware I can use a USB keyboard. In any case I'm happy the developer is willing to try and fix it. What is your source for claiming it will be a long time for it to be fixed?
Also to add to this, im also unable to pair my qstarx 10hz BT gps unit.
It may be helpful to post your Bluetooth concerns in the same thread as mine on the Joying Forum I linked to above so that the developer is aware it's not just me and may encourage him to work on this more quickly.
Just popped my head in over there. I was hoping that peeps here would know of a trick or flag for the OS to make all apps think BT is on. then they could get past the check and just access BT, kinda like what the torque app does.
Yeah if someone finds a way to do that I'd be interested to know how as well. Slightly off-topic did you try installing a custom recovery or the Xposed framework on this unit? I have tried and failed many different types of attempts to do it on this unit.

My source? Joying didn't write the software.
And what relevance does that have to the speed at which the issue can be resolved? It seems that you are just being defeating for no purpose. The developer is willing to help and he has expressed that desire in many Communications I've had with him so far. I prefer to be optimistic and that he has the right people to contact to resolve the issue

no. i just have it rooted so far with supersu installed. what feature in xposed could be used to help here?
None that I can think of I was just curious if you had been able to install Xposed. I am curious as to how you were able to install SuperSU, as I was only able to install King root.
