Definitly worth it.
Just use the ZergExploit like explained before, make sure you flash the FXP kernel (look up how to put a boot.img) and then put the new FXP047 image (7.2.0 at the time of writing this).
I had the same reluctance at the start as you, it seems complicated, and you actually need more research. Make sure you read the "noob" posts on how to root, they actually give you all the infos you need when put together

It's normal to hesitate but not when you get the correct steps to do it in a clean and harmless method.
Try this tutorial that worked fine for me.

Hi,
Does anybody know any easy to follow guides or steps to installing custom roms on the Galaxy W. I have upgraded from an Xperia X8 and it seems more complex than that.
Any assistance is appreciated

Hi,
Yeah i did check that forum but i couldnt realy find anything which is relatively easy enough to follow in order to install CWM.
I havent as yet rooted the device or done anything else. However it is running the latest Samsung firmware and isnt carrier locked.
Arco68 has posted a cwm recovery in the galaxy w hacking and development section. You can use Odin (simple way) or adb (complex way) to flash cwm. Then once this is done you can go into recovery. You will notice many things are different to standard recovery. Go into install rom rom sdcard (hint that you need a rom on ur SD) and it will flash the rom you choose. Simplez. PS. If your gonna choose a rom I'd recommend cyanogenmod (currently in alpha but not many bugs and still good)

FYI this should have been posted in general.
If all you want is root go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052321
If you want to install CWM you have to follow the unbricking guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645
Also it's not hard to find using the search utility.

Are you using google translate to convert to eng because your posts are difficult to understand.. This subforum has nothing to do with the ericsson. What made you assume that? Fwiw,a simple google search of "v20c p936 root" almost always returns the required info and related discussion.
Installing rom manager is as simple as installing any other app..

I guess you are not familiar with this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052321 follow the link from this thread and read you will then understand xilopan69's statement.
In regards to "Installing rom manager is as simple as installing any other app.. " that is not accurate if you are coming from ICS (v20c)..LG has a well documented locked bootloader and if you try to install CWM recovery from RomManager you will brick the phone. In order to install CWM you have to follow the unbricking guide and downgrade to Gingerbread so CWM recovery can be installed. From there you can go to your ROM of choice.

I had used this guide for installing CWM, in fact before I edited rom 10.1 CM, then I called ICS, so now I am forced to keep ICS as well without CWM, or defer to GB and defer 10.1 CM, I thought you could put CWM on ICS, thanks and excuse my translation from Italian to English.
Okay now I go that I realized as I do, I'm going to see the football match Lazio, Stuttgart Hi guys

Ok the only need to downgrade to GB is because of the locked bootloader in ICS. Since GB's bootloader is unlocked you can install CWM and from there install ANY ROM (CM9, CM10(.1), v20c,e,f, LiquidNitro, GloryROM, etc.) anything that is a CWM installable ROM. I hope this helps.

I'm sorry, I absolutely didn't mean that offensively. Did it seem that way? I was just curious if you were using a translator as i found it hard to decide exactly what you meant..
Looking back at my thread it does come off as a bit ignorant. I apologize. Honestly just wanted to help, although I could have been less sarcastic.

As for the linked thread, I didn't realize it was posted in an experia sub-forum.. I just saw the title of "Root Many Androids"..
Thank you for letting me know.
Edit: Why didn't you just link him to the ICS rooting guide in our sub-forum? The TPSparkyRoot method in [GUIDE] Rooting and Unbricking p930/p935/p936 works first try on v20c-v20f for me every time. This would probably avoid confusion like this for newer members.. IMO anyways.
RomManger is an app, not a recovery. CWM is a recovery. He asked for a guide to install Rom Manager. I guess I could have assumed he meant the recov.
I know ics has a locked bootloader.. I thought that if he read the guide he knew that. Sorry 'bout that.
Again, sorry if I came off sounding like a jerk. Not intentional.

Seriously, that thread has everything you need.
However if you must - follow the instructions in my signature and download the files to Root you phone.
Once your phone is successfully rooted, install 2nd-init and the boot your custom recovery. Now you can flash you custom ROM (and gapps).
I think people like you should get banned from this forum, is ok to ask for help but not to be spoonfed, its quite messy? I highly doubt you can even make a guide half better than that one its quite basic and simple to do, and if you can't even follow a basic guide leave the defy with its original rom, why? because you will come back QQ about signal problems, battery drops and so on, so better don't waste our time and space on this good forum and leave if you're not willing to search a **** about what you are going to do
thank you
