Issue with Handwriting recognition for a second language - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I am trying to use handwriting recognition for a second language (other than English) and handwriting pad is not opening in that language or if it is open does not allow me to complete the word (each letter is moved to the left immediately) and eventually does not recognize anything (not even the word). English are working properly.
I have realized that although I have updated that language (Settings -> Language and Input -> Handwriting recognition -> more languages) and is always selected it keeps asking me to update as if it has never been updated!
Has anyone experienced the same issue?

letter recognition

Hello,
Wanted to share with you a solution I found to an annoying problem. I have the "Orange SPV 650" with French WM5 loaded. I previously owned a PDA with which I was very accustomed to using "Letter Recognition" as an input tool instead of the keyboard.
The problem is with this new P3300 phone, I couldn't write accentuated characters (like é) or punctuations (like : ; ). It seemed that "letter recognition" input tool immediately recognizes the letter once you remove your stylos off the screen, hence typing a colon ( : ) that would require two strokes would end by an apostrophe (') or a dot (.), it wouldn't wait for you to complete an eventual second stroke and adjusts recognition accordingly, which for me was a perfectly normal behavior with my PocketPC 2003 PDA.
The solution, though strange, is:
In the general settings menu, when you select "Today", you can choose between two layouts:
1. Default WM5 one, where you can put programs on your desktop such as calendar, messages, tasks, etc.
2. an Orange layout where you have a task bar at the left where you can have easier access to your applications..
As you might have expected, choosing the Orange Layout, would cause the the above problem with letter recognition don't ask me how, but I've changed this several times back and forth and the behavior is very consistent. A friend of mine has experienced the same behavior with his similar device.
Hope this helps,
Ksu

[Q] Spell Check woes

Hi, I have got a UK Touch Pro 2 branded Vodafone but it has the latest standard HTC WM 6.5 ROM installed (after Hard SPL).
I have installed TomTom and fixed the BTTrayCE error that created and also patched the clock which annoyingly wants to always show a time 1 hour and 2 mins behind, before flipping down like a 70s alarm clock to the correct time. I’m sure the programmer thought this was fantastic, but it’s just annoying and pointless! (/rant).
My problem is that I can’t find the spell checker. On my older XDA phones and my Touch Pro 1, in text messaging after typing a message, I just did Menu --> Spell check. It even allowed me to add words which it stored in the custom.dic file which I have been carrying from device to device as I upgraded phones.
However, even using the ‘proper’ text messing in Messages-->All Messages --> new message, when I click on the menu button all I get is “Add Recipient, Insert >, Quick Text, Save as Draft and Discard”. There is no spell check option!
The Vodaphone ROM which was slow and full of bloatware and incorrect settings for my network did have a spell check under menu – as did all the previous versions of WM.
I have tried enabling the XT9 feature and it does the XT9 thing of suggesting words and selecting them when you press space. This is quite rubbish for two reasons, it doesn’t auto correct i to I and you have to watch each word carefully, because if you type “hell” it might autocorrect it to “he’ll” depending on what you last chose. This results in having to go back and change about 5 - 10% of words, which is really annoying.
I have fiddled with the XT9 settings under Start/settings/all settings/personal/input/options and the only selectable input method is “Touch Input” although the hardware keyboard works and the options don’t seem to make much of a difference.
I have been searching for 4 hours now and hope that you might be able to help, please!!
Does anyone have a similar problem? Does anyone know if the standard HTC ROM should have a spell checker or not?

swype installed but no worky

installed swype using a apk and sync
its on the sd card says installed successfully etc
listed as an app but not in the running apps
have rebooted etc
so whats wrong?
not in the input method select list all i have is touch and ime mod
enable in keyboard and languages
how friggin good is it. accuracy is very very high even at first use. can imagine how fast you can type when you get used to it
Have you gone to Language & Keyboard and put a check next to Swype? After doing that you will need to goto either a message or email and press and hold in the text area to get the "Input Select" option.

[Q] Navigation switches... languages

I hope you guys can help me out with this odd problem.
First of all, I'm a crack flasher. I think I've flashed every release of every rom out there However, I've noticed some navigation voice issues. Since I don't use navigation very often, I don't know which roms are affected, or how/why.
The issue is that the voice switches from old "Gingerbread behavior" (street names are spoken, very metallic robotic voice) to excellent "ICS behavior", where only essential information are spoken (i.e. "turn left", "in five hundred meters, turn right") in flawless Swedish pronouncement.
Today I was experimenting a little, and every second direction (or so) was in old behavior, and every other in the new. The flawless pronouncement is female, the metallic one is... maleish.
I've removed Maps and reinstalled it, but to no avail.
Settings --> Languages --> Text-to-speech lists "Pico TTS" and "Google text-to-speech-engine", none of which has Swedish as setting. I believe the Swedish voice is in Maps itself (?)
Anyone else experiencing this?

Issue with Google Keyboard personal dictionary on lollipop 5.02

I just updated my SM-T800 to lollipop 5.02 (T800XXU1BOCC_T800XAC1BOC4_XAC) and I'm using google keyboard. The problem I'm having is that I can't add words to the dictionary. ie. if I type "haha" I have the option of selecting "Hanna" or other similar words but I can't select "haha" and "touch to save" doesn't appear. I think there's a problem with the personal dictionary or loading the personal dictionary. When I go into [settings-general-language and input-google keyboard settings-google keyboard-text correction] and tap on personal dictionary I'm routed to wifi settings. I have tried a factory reset and reflashing the stock rom twice.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is anyone able to help?

Yes, I am.
The normal route to add to or edit sends me to my Network settings.
Using stock android, Google Now launcher. 5.0.2.android. Google keyboard
Had to reset tablet and reinstall everything. Since then...gone.
Annoying obviously.
No idea why, how it happened.

Hi. I have the same issue. Non more solution ?
This problem persists until now, June 2016.
Yes I have this also. Android 5.0.2 on a note pro tab. My phone (6.0.1) does not rout me to the wifi settings in the same way, but still seems to be missing the option to add words on the fly as you type them. Does this mean that the only way to add words to your personal dictionary is to record them somewhere and then do so directly via the settings interface? How archaic..
It also took me a while to realise that the settings can only be accessed via the comma button (long press) from the keyboard itself, as there is now no flag to alert you to this since the recent update, and apparently no other way in.
Nevertheless, and even in the absence of any 'add to dictionary' option, the dictionary did seem to fill up with endless amounts of partial, wrong, or capitalised words (for instance I just got 'Calif' when I typed the 'capit' just now - what is a Calif'???).
I deleted all data from the app, but still they come, as Jare said. I would love to be able to access whatever dictionary this thing is using, and kill it, because it is not English. If there is a supplementary dictionary of acronyms and abbreviations and cultural slang then that should be an option you can opt out of.
A Spell checker should never autocorrect to a word that is not correct in the language you are writing - this is rather obvious I would have thought. For people who work on this gear full time a bit more control would be great.
