Hi I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a used eBay g4 and getting any repairs done thru square trade warranty service. Any repair and especially the bootloop hardware issue? Thanks
Anyone? Guess if no one has used it is not that good?

Hello, I have a Hardbricked epic 4g touch and would like to know if it's possible to get it repaired or replaced without having Sprint service or insurance. I bought it off of Craigslist to use as a wifi device and didn't read carefully and Hardbricked it at the beginning of April. I tried sending it in to Samsung but it was classified as Beyond Economical Repair from Electro-Mechanical damage. I am willing to pay to have it repaired. Thank You
WTF??? I've had good experience with Samsung's repair, I had an old Epic that I'd bricked (my fault) so I microwaved it for a couple minutes so it wouldn't turn on, and they replaced it.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it is people like you who deserve no service at all, ruining it for everyone else with honest issues or fault device's.
@ OP, I've heard of certain sprint stores replacing your device as long as it's still under the 1 year warranty, some charge a 35$ fee.

The bug was recently acknowledged, so they may start choosing to not repair any device affected by the emmc bug.

Reading that will give you an idea of what the actual issue is.

Will they be willing to do it if I had no Sprint service? I tried to contact Asurion and they stated that the only way I could get a repair would be to put a device on an account. I even offered to pay whatever it costs to repair but they aren't able to due to them charging by putting deductible on the Sprint account.

From what I read, it seems to be a bug in the firmware or driver that controls the eMMC chip. I wonder why they still wouldn't offer repair service to people willing to cover the costs...

I tried to contact mobiletechvideo and even got as far as paying for repair service but then I told him how I got my hardbrick and he said he wouldn't be able to repair it and offered me a refund.
sorry to hear sound like its just a paper weight now.
Hello Guys,
after I had issues with my HTC One X (screen flickering and distorted and some times not waking up and not turning on..)
I decided to send it to repair.
The problem is that the phone is not under Warranty. I got it from a friend who got it without warranty from Dubai.
Bottom line, the repair center called today and told me that the motherboard is at fault and needs to be changed..
and they don't know where to get it from and that probably it is very costly and that I should just throw it away !!!!
Any idea if I can send it abroad for repair ? or order online the motherboard ?
We do not have HTC repair center in Lebanon...(middle East).
Any help is welcomed.
Thanks a lot guys !
I think that's an expensive repair. Not meaning to be rude, but why the **** would you get it without warranty?

I was fooled.. and thought it was under warranty...
Any idea where I can get that motherboard ?
I am expecting it to be expensive... But I bought for 400Bucks... so I will pay 200 to get it fixed... better than throwing away 400 no ?
Thx
I dont think you can buy just the motherboards. I have never seen the motherboard for sale. I suppose you could buy a smashed one. Id get the phone back from the repair place. Sell it as broken then buy a new phone with warranty.

What does this mean without warranty and you thought it has warranty?
From what I gather, the phone should be still in the one year warranty period from htc. As its not a year out.
If you have a proof of purchase this should be enforceable.
If its not unlocked etc. Even then you might have a shot as they already said its a hw problem.

PM hamdir. He's in Lebanon and something of an HTC expert. He might be able to direct you.

I recently bought a barely used LG G4 from Swappa. I've been using it for about 2 months or so.
The phone was running stock and as of a few days ago it went into the infamous bootloop problem.
I called LG and they said that my warranty is voided because I had bought the phone second hand. I find this to be pretty ridiculous because the Bootloop problem is a hardware defect by LG, why does it matter if it is second hand or first hand? And right now they are refusing to repair it unless I have a proof of purchase from the original seller (He doesn't seem to have one/ lost it.)
Any advise on how to proceed on this? I am pretty pissed that I spent 400$ on a flagship phone that isn't a year old with manufacturing defect and NOW without warranty. (Canadian variant of LG G4)
Thats crazy. I just took mines back to fido yesterday. Im getting rid of it as soon as it comes back.
They refused me with a unit purchased on eBay UK, this is nonsense

That's the problem right there. You have to get the original bill and pass yourself off as the original buyer. How would they know.
Warranties are not transferable. Check if it applies in your country because it does where i am.
This is at their discretion. If they don't ask then nobody knows.

Live and learn, its the same with everything
Tell them you're a diehard LG fan or something and this never happened with the many LG hones you've had. And that you would be heart broken by your favourite company.
Then pray.
Thinking about picking up a refurbished lg g4 from eBay for $100 but was wonderingif I should pass on it due to the bootloop issue or is that issue a easy fix.would I be better off with something else?

I'd pass more due to being on eBay. You may not be buying the model your wanting. And won't know till you go to update or have other issues.
A lot of referbs say it's an AT&T model for example. You may get an extremely modified Sprint or Verizon motherboard in it which will cause issues down the road.
Not all are bad. But referb G4s even "brand new" ones are high risk for that.

Buy it for $10 but not for 100.. The mainboard issue is not completely fixed as far as we can say. It got better but no guarantees for nothing here.. Besides that never buy a refurbished one. It occured several times in the past that some seller have replaced the mainboard from another device. The result is a Frankenstein device with a body of e.g. a h811 but a mainboard of a h810,812,815,...

Thanks guys I appreciate the quick reply.guess I'll steer clear of the g4.
I just bought a refurb H811 on eBay for $100, and added on a 1-year warranty for $20. I suspect LG would fix the bootloop issue if that were to emerge, but even if not, the $20 1-year warranty is insurance on that. I got the H811 because the bootloader is easily unlocked to install LineageOS and other custom ROMS. Forget it with the VS986 (Verizon) and H810 (AT&T) models--you can't easily unlock the bootloader. For $120, I think you would be very hard-pressed to find another phone with the same camera quality. Since camera quality and the ability to install clean ROMs over carrier-bloated versions were important points for me, I felt it was worth it for $120.
I would pass it bye and not look back, Great phone But in my opinion 50 bucks or less is the sales price,
Its like playing Russian roulette.
I'd pass.

I know the others suggested against the purchase, but I think you'll really appreciate the camera if you've only used average cell phone cameras previously. If you do ever end up with the dreaded bootloop, I'd suggest taking it up with LG for a possible (free) fix instead of just dumping it. My wife's VS986 recently suffered from the bootloop issue, and despite being well out of warranty, LG repaired it free of charge.

Only problem with that is if the bootloop did happen, when buying online there's always a huge chance the phone is tampered with or not what it stated it is model wise. And LG will not warranty it. There's a few threads of that happening already.

Currently with Verizon and I'm in the process of getting my device replaced by Asurion after I cracked the glass on my camera.
I believe I recall some people getting devices back that they were able to unlock the boot loader on their device when receiving the Asurion replacement. I think there was something about unlocking it before it boots up with the Verizon SIM in it or something like that.. Does anyone have any information in regards to this? If I have a chance to root my replacement device prior to using it I would like to take advantage of that.
Expect a locked device, but be pleasantly surprised if you are able to unlock the bootloader. People in the root bounty thread have tried to unlock without a SIM inserted and failed.
I will add one thing...
While something like this happens all the time (it actually happened to me; which is the only reason why I got mine from Verizon but can achieve root...), I believe the circumstance that this happens for might exclusively be only if you send yours in for a warranty replacement, so maybe (or at least less likely) not for an insurance replacement... I mean it makes sense because with all of the initial problems of "taimen", Google would rather just replace defective ones with straight-from-factory units. I wonder if one can say the same with Asurion and insurance replacements...
But I can't say I know a lot about Verizon, Asurion, and the warranty procedures...
sidenote: I actually pay for and also have Asurion insurance on all 4 of my lines as well....
Yes, just to clarify this wont be a warranty done by Verizon but a replacement sent to me by Asurion.
I'll mess with it when I get it tomorrow if no one really has much insight in regards to this.
