I need to replace my digitizer + glass. Basically the entire display unit. Anyone got any recommendations on the best place to purchase these things? Or possibly best place to send it in for repair? Best course of action?

My top screen is cracked. Everything else like touch screen works fine.
How much will it cost do you know from experience?
Supplied and fitted would cost you more for the screen repair than it would to buy a good condition DHD off Ebay.
Just get a new phone off Ebay.
buy a new screen for about 35$ and repair it yourself.

I've got a cracked screen but the digitizer works fine. I noticed Amazon and eBay sell replacement screens but two local repair shops told me it's virtually impossible to replace the screen without damaging the phone so I they recommneded buying the screen and digitizer.
1) Does this sound right? If not, can anyone recommend a repair person/shop in Boston?
2) If they are right, can you recommend a place to buy the screen and digitizer that won't cost an arm and a leg.

You'll never get the screen off without damaging the digitizer.

I know that they will be abe to replace it I am just not sure of the cost since I haven't had to have it done.
It also depends on the repair cost if anything else might be broken will change the cost of repair.
You can always call them up and ask for a quote.
They should be able to give you basic pricing on what to expect if it is broken.
And of course, with the modification that cost might vary if something else is broken in the phone too.

$200 and they replace everything - screen, glass, digitizer, front case. You get an almost-new phone. :good:
So I dropped my phone, screen cracked. Pretty upset about it considering it was only dropped from about a foot.
Anyway, looking for repair options. I have insurance and heard LG is another way to go but looking for a different option.
My screen is cracked, digitizer responsed only where their is no cracks, LCD is fine.
Looking up repair places, they want to replace the whole assembly LCD/Screen, so my question
how difficult is replacing just the screen? i'd say I do pretty well at DIY
anyone have a good repair person who just does the screen or anyone will to sell your services to me?

I replace my wife's G3 screen that was very damaged from the impact, I bought the part on ebay for $107 about two months ago, I replaced the screen, no to hard to do.
Broke my screen and damaged to lcd. Will power on but got a bunch of lines / colors so pretty much unusable at this point. Was looking online to find an OEM replacement digitizer assembly. Anyone been down this path and can recommend a place to buy? I've replaced screens / digitizer etc before so should be good as far as that goes. Thanks.
I guess the question is whether you found one or not. I'm guessing you didn't, and at this point in time that's no surprise, not when the oldest devices are less than a year old and still within the manufacturer's warranty period. You're probably going to have to contact Google and look into repair options that way, since the supply of OEM parts is likely tied up with them so they can repair damaged devices.
if you are located in the US, UbreakIfix uses original google supplied parts and replace all seals for your for $220. Big pricey but if you want waterproofing still, it's a sure way. If you want to DYI, you can always get parts from eBay and if it sucks, file a claim through paypal or ebay.
