Phone losing connection to WiFi after inactivity - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I got a brand new Nexus 5X
After some time of inactivity - the phone loses connection to the WiFi
If I unlock the phone and try to send a message on WhatsApp for example - the connection is back.
Of course the option of "Keep Alive while sleep" is on.
btw: I got this problem for ages, even when I had my old Nexus 4 - I had this problem
When I had Galaxy S6 - the problem disappeared - so it can't be an issue with my router...

Which build are you using?

Try keeping bluetooth enabled for a day and see if it still does it.

Actually I changed my connection to a different WiFi router in the house and it doesn't lose connection any more.
Any idea why the first router drops my phone connection after a while?

There are some wifi issues with this phone which are hopefully fixed in the newest version so it could be due to that.
Thats why i suggested the Bluetooth bit as it does help.

[Q] Ready to throw my GN against the wall. Wifi wont stay on!

Hi all, Im having a problem that is slowly driving me insane for the past 2 weeks. I surely cant be the only one. Anyway, I generally move between home and work daily, both have WIFI. When Im at home Im connected, all fine. I travel to work, WIFI isnt connected, again this is normal. I get into work and when I expect it be connected to WIFI it isnt, WIFI is off and I have to manually turn it back on to get it connected to WIFI again. Why do I have to do this? Why have all my other Android devices just worked normally and reconnect to known networks. Its soooo frustrating
Anyone have same problem or have a resolution?

What rom? What settings in phone wifi?
Both Stock rom, with and without the volume fix, and Modaco MCR4. Wifi settings are set as WIFI on even during sleep.
Is there some settings Im missing somewhere other than in Settings > Wireless & Netowrks > Wifi ??

Nope these are the settings. The strange thing for me is that your wifi turns off automatically
Try going to advanced WIFI settings and disable 'Avoid poor connections'

Yep. Try that. Only thing I can think of. My wifi was flaky with that setting on even 4 from my router. If that doesn't solve are you using any kind of task managing àpp?

I have posted this in other people's threads in regards to poor wifi reception. I recently purchased a 9250 through bell canada and have the same problem.
I have turned off the 'avoid poor connections' as well. It turns on and off on its own and can't get through a download of more then 5MB on wifi.
It will also reconnect on its own if I have left wifi turned on. I would say while WIFI is turned on I may actually be connected 30% of the time. This is 90% in 2 feet away from a router.
I'm having the same issue (wifi turning itself off) - noticed it the other day and just assume I'd caught the wi-fi button (I use extended controls). Happened again this morning and also just now as I got home.
I've not modded anything on my Nexus (4.0.1) - avoid poor connections has been disabled for a while.
I may test the theory, but betweek home and work is a wifi enabled bus journey, I never use it but it always tells me there's a wifi available. I might turn wifi notification off and see it if turns itself off before I get to work in the morning...
Left home with wifi on... Got to work and wifi was off? Wtf?
Could it be extended controls?

You are not the only one, it's happening to me in exactly the same scenario. Oddly enough it hasn't happened today.
i cant make out of your post thast the wifi on/off button turns of? or just the connection to the wifi adres?
i dont know about any sleep or auto turn of policy's as i didnt try it(i always turn off my wifi when travling)
but if its the last thing.
than the problem might not even be the GN.?
but the router it self.
even computer's and laptopt can have problems when the password is too long,or to different(hard characters like :';/.m,[email protected]#$%^&**(() ][ )
it might also be the MHZ setting,as the 20MHZ has wider range but can be disorted by machines like microwaves.
but the 40MHZ has lower range but wouldnt be disorted.
as there is also the channel option thats has been set wrong/or the pasword encryption. or any other router conflicting with the router you want to connect.
it might also be the router not liking your GN.(as my spica doesnt conect to my router at home, but all my other devices do.my router doesnt want to give a IP to my spica.)
It just happened to me again now, left the office whilst wifi was on and connected. Grabbed some lunch and returned (about 20 mins) and now my wifi button is set to off and I need to set it back to on.

Can't see any policy settings or any power save features. Running stock.
somehow I have fixed it. Problem is I don't know how.
Here is what I did in case anyone else needs help;
*From the 'My Vodafone' app, select wi-fi finder, in settings untick 'Enable BT Openzone'
*Settings, wi-fi, advanced, untick 'Network Notification', untick 'Avoid poor connections'
Not sure which of the above actually fixes it but my Wi-Fi has been on for about 1 1/2 days now.
Have you or when did you upgrade to 4.0.2? As the changelog mentions a wifi fixed. Only upgraded this morning so won't see if it has worked until I get home...

So I am still having this problem since day one. I have travelled through 3 countries and multiple cities and tried to use WIFI in at least 20+ different instances and the problem is the same.
It connects right away (really quickly actually) will stay connected for a bit then eventually loses connection.
I can't download any of the big packages for the games and so I can't play them. I won't use my data connection for anything over 100mb.
I got a message for an update yesterday. Updated the phone but I see no difference in the Android version number.
Anything happening with this?
I thought the update i was downloading was 4.0.2 but i guess it wasn't.
I am familar with updating and flashing from the galaxy s. But I want to use the phone completely stock for while.
I have just returned my nexus for a replacement. Lets see how it goes.
So far I have had the power shut off once while toggling the wifi widget (never happened on my other phone). And the wifi has disconnected twice. I have just done the update (not 4.0.2) and it seems to work a little better.
Called samsung yesterday after getting the replacement phone when it had the same issue (just as a reminder I have tried it on numerous routers/ap's) and they said they hadn't heard of the issue.
I said I was just calling to provide some feedback. They told me to return the phone yet again. I obviously believe I don't have a problem with the hardware at all. I figured if store let me return it, then why not.
Anyway onto my 3rd one today and the exact same problem.
I think that even though I am turning off "Avoid Poor Connections" it isn't actually turning that 'feature' off. Every so often and only if your watching the wifi settings it will say that it disconnected the wifi connection due to low signal.
Mind you all of this is 1' from my router while sitting at my computer. My galaxy S is sitting beside me and has maintained a wireless link to the router the entire time.

[Q] WiFi Connection Notification Normal?

Quick question, hope it's not too stupid. I just got a GTab 8.0 (perfect screen size!) and it's great but one thing is mildly annoying. I keep getting a "now connected to "my Wifi network name" notification often. I'm not noticing any drop in connection or anything to indicate my WiFi connection is unstable, and it's rock solid with all my other devices too. Is this just a normal thing with the GTab?

I came here looking to see if there are any wifi issues after the latest update (Tab 3 7.0). I am seeing the same thing but wifi is disconecting upon sleep for me. What i see is a connection notification when I first wake the screen. If I catch it quickly, I can see that wifi was not connected.
Also, I tripled checked the wifi sleep policy and it is set to Always. This just started after the latest update. I am rooted so I reverted to older firmware and everything is back to normal.

I have experienced this as well on the 7.0, I also started receiving error messages from Gmail (via Aquamail) regarding "too many simultaneous connections" while this was happening. Anyways I have the 3G version and don't require Wifi use often, so I haven't thought much about this, but I'd call this normal.

[Q] N7 2013 32gb (Strange problem didn't find it here)

Good evening ladies and gents, i got a nexus 7 wifi only 2nd gen and i was wondering if i can find a fix to a strange problem i am having with it lately.
So i had to remove my saved wifi network about a week ago, and i restarted the tablet shortly after that. I switched it on like 5 minutes later and i normally went to proceed to connect to my wifi. Surprisingly i could not find any wireless networks, i tried with my phone and the wifi list of the nearby networks popped up directly and my wfi was working perfectly, i tried to scan for wifi signals again to reconnect to my home wifi but nothing was showing up again and again even if the wireless was turned on.
I tried rebooting, changing frequencies, even tried changing the wifi channel in my router, nothing continued to show up on the wifi list. After trying to find out what was going on for a couple of minutes I thought id try to add my network manually and i did, entered the SSID and the password and for my surprise it connected just fine this time. I tried turning the wireless on/off to rescan because i thought it fixed itself but i couldn't find any wireless network again, except for the one i added manually. The wifi seems to work just fine, it's fast and i get full bars like i used to before but the only thing is that now it can no longer scan for networks. I did a couple of searches trying to find any solution online before coming here in google, other forums and even youtube but i couldn't find anything related to my problem. To be completely honest it doesn't bother me very much because it works just fine as is but now i cannot take the tablet with me anymore wherever i go, school/cafeteria/visiting friends/family because it no longer seems to find anything when scanning for networks unless i add them manually.
What do you guys think? Have you ever heard of something like this happening to a nexus 7 before? Do you think i should restore the tablet to see if that fixes my problem?
(My first post, but i have been lurking in the shadows since 2011)
I'm not sure if this will fix your problem but a while back I had this happen to me once. What I did was toggle the 'scanning always available' option in the advanced Wi-Fi settings. I think it was originally on but after turning it off I could see other wi-fi hotspots. Try see if toggling this option helps.
Sounds like a setting of your router is causing this. The setting to hide your router's SSID. That can easily be switched on or off.

WiFi issues?

Not sure if it's just me, but WiFi will randomly disconnect every 5-10 minutes for a few seconds, then reconnect itself. My m8, nexus 5 and nexus 7 2013 are not suffering the same so I'm assuming it's not my router. Anyone have any thoughts?

guys chill! you dont have any problem with your wifi. our phone is looking for a better signal, if it doesnt detected that you have a poor connection it will disconnect itself and it will toggle on your cellular network.
here is your solution
go to your wifi click settings > advance wifi > and uncheck Wi-Fi signal weak and bam. you have your wifi connected all the time!
hit thanks will ya?

Lol same problem s5 wifi signal os stronger on same ssids
I also have this problem and I decided to debug it.
With my jabber client which logs every disconnect I found out that it disconnects from wifi every 5 minutes.
So I opened my router settings and found that only setting that is set to 5 minutes is interval of "Group Key Update". So I changed it to 15 minutes and now it disconnects every 15 minutes.
So it's not solution, but only a workaround. So i will set it to few hours and hope that LG will fix it soon.

Flaky wifi since last oos 4.1.3 update?

Hi, I continue to experience this recent bug, where, when I arrive home, the phone won't automatically connect to my wifi. I only have my home network on 5 GHz, no other entry.
Whenever it happens, the phone stays on LTE, doesn't seem to see *any* wifi, it takes actually getting in network settings and toggling from there off/on to retrieve my network and work again.
Is this really a new issue or it can be solved somehow without factory reset?

I just noticed the same behaviour with my 2 days new router, when on 5G. It takes me to turn on/off a few times to get the ip, but then, after a while (20'-30'), it says No internet, although my laptop has full internet (on 2.4G). I was thinking my router has a bug, at least I know now it could be my Z5 Nougat. :/
