Is G3 become old crappy phone? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My girfriend have low midrange phone samsung j5 and I compare it with my g3 and beside 0.5 inch bigger screen J5 was eating my phone in every aspect...display is much brighter and colors are vivid, every app I try starts faster on J5, animations are faster...ux is extreamly faster and fluid. I dont play games so I gues that g3 is better in that aspect but everyday usage is much better on j5. Oh I almost forget...battery on J5 last 8h on screen and 2 full days with gps on and with 80% of brightnes and on my lg is 4h max with 50% brightnes...capacity of betteries-g3 3000mha, j5 2600mha. Is it posible that samsung is that better compare to lg?
Sent from my LG-G3

The LG G3 comes with a quad HD display, which means it has four times more pixels than the 720p. Of course, in many tasks the higher resolution screen will put more strain on the SoC and drain the battery faster. The G3 also tends to get hotter because of the screen or inadequate cooling. I'll refrain from the comments about the GUI and app fluidity because it can also come from the differences in ROM. I haven't used the G3 long enough to run into any performance or lag issues, but the G2 started lagging eventually, and the way I cured it was by installing a modified ROM that has Zero LG bloatware, and now it's a great fast snappy phone. We need something like that for the G3 too.
Yes, these LG phones are starting getting dated. I think it's entirely possible that you can be just happy with a 2015 midrange smartphone such as the Moto G, based on what I heard.

Iam awere that g3 have qhd but also have sd801 compare to (I think) sd 410 soc on samsung, also now I see how crapy lg ux is...its to heavy and non user freandly in field of customatization.

i have g3 and j5 both....g3 beats j5 easily.....with g3 as a heavy user what you can do..... you never do it with j5.....

Yes, ur right there and I never denied it. I just say that jt feels more fluid in every day use then g3 and trust me I know that g3 is still good phone but with crappy ui and bucket full od bloatweres.

I wouldn't be surprised if many people find S5 a better phone. Samsung is probably the most well-rounded Android hardware manufacturer. But here the discussion was about the J5, a low or mid-range device from 2015, and the G3.

With CM13 i'm actually pretty happy with my G3. Specially Resurrection Remix solves all the problems you mentioned only at the expense of camera quality, wich isn't actually that bad for everyday usage...

BTW S5 has an 1080p vs 2k from the G3.

S5 has a yellow display ?

had s5 for a year or so and now got g3,,gotta say im more happy with the g3,,nothing but problems with the s5 from 1 month old,,up to the black screen wake being too much that the phone was unusable,,up to now,,not one single problem with the g3,,and i got to say i prefer the ui to the samsung too.

[Q] Take LG G PRO E988 or keep my Mega 6.3 i9200? Urgent!

Hey guys I will keep this simple.
I have been offered a straight up trade with an LG G PRO E988 for my Samsung Mega 6.3 i9200.
We all know the difference and I know in terms of screen estate is a huge downgrade(especially in videos/movies/games which is my primary use), but I think the 1080p LCD and the Snappy 600/Adreno 320 will make up for it a lot for that "smaller" screen.
I got used to the Mega now and even the Note 3 a friend has, feels a lot "smaller" than my Mega.
But I think the better specs as I said will make up for it. And I'm sure I will get used to the "smaller" screen over time.
I have to decide until tonight. Please I would love to hear your thoughts on this and especially from E988 owners.
P.S: One thing. I read somewhere that the Indian version E988 doesn't have FM Radio? Any confirmations?
Mods I'm not sure if this belongs to the Q&A/Help sub-forum or in the General thread, so please move accordingly if necessary.
kelvintisw said:
Don't! Just don't downgrade from a 6.3" to a 5.7" of Note 3 or even a 5.5" of G Pro!
You will regret it due to the smaller screen!
Get the 6"'s HTC One Max!:good:

HTC Max not an option. Too expensive. We are talking about or over 300euros difference. I'm in the EU.
And I really love my Mega. I had it for over a month now and I absolutely love it. Plants vs Zombies 2, Dead Trigger 2, The Hobbit 1080p on it, all are an amazing experience.
But I had my eye on the G Pro for a while now tbh. I'm just looking to see if I can find some constructive input on it vs the Mega.
In that case, keep your 6.3"!

I have not used the mega so can't comment on it... But OG Pro is a brilliant brilliant phone, no doubt about it... Screen is big at 5.5 " and processor, internal storage are all top no ch...my reason for buying the OG Pro was a) battery life, b) a swiss army knife of hardware features ( removable battery , SD card slot, NFC, wireless charging, 13 mp camera etc , list goes on) ...until now ( more than 3 months with the OG pro) and the phone has exceeded my expectations

Having gone from a long line of Samsung devices prior to the LG Optimus G Pro, I can say that the screen is remarkably good. I much prefer it to the super saturated and artificial colors of AMOLED. It's much more pleasant overall for reading and image viewing. There's no doubt that I'll stick with IPS from now on over AMOLED.

[Q] S5 ou LG G3

Hello,
My biggest concern about ist the camera...
The S3 was incredible in his time... a real revolution for me.
The S4 was good in good conditions but the camera angle + the noise + low lights were ugly!
And now with this generation, what's the best?
The S5 ist incredible in good conditions BUT the noise ist so persistent!
And in low light ist only ugly...
Lg G3 can be better?
Thanx
No, the G3 in low light is also very noisy!

Yes, but by a tiny margin.

ok how tiny...?
Because the aspect of the s5 is (for me) ugly... so
I use sometimes these photos (took by phonecam) in web project.
I bieleved taht the stabilizator and the laser autofocus might make the photos better in low light...
Edit:
When you see these (in low light): there is so more noise in s5...? http://www.cnet.com/news/lg-g3s-laser-equipped-camera-put-to-the-test/
Few phones of today is worse than the S5 in low light. The G2 was also horrible and looked like watercolor if the autofokus ever found the subject. What I have heard the G3 is clearly the better pic between S5 and G3. But... If you want to be able to use the phone better indoors you need a phone like One or iPhone, you can't beat those indoor. But the S5 is great outdoor for sure, but even the G2 was good to.

what about focus time in the dark? in my G2 it takes ages to focus on object and when it taking the photo it is already lost the moment. is it the same in G3?
Use the G2 pro camera and you'll have a much better experience with the G2.

But what about focus time in the night? is it better then G2?
S5 prices are on freefall, the touchwiz is a lag god. I would any day pick G3 over S5. Even in blind camera test in phonearena, S5 just finished 3 votes ahead of S5. So camera re identical, now look at better things, Bigger and the latest screen tech. Almost same weight(145 vs 149), more ram (3 gig vs 2 gig). S5 has finger print scanner which hardly works, the waterproofing is nifty though.
Lookwise G3 looks way better then S5, with S5 you never know if it is a grand or what.

[Q] Is this a worthy upgrade?

Hey everyone,
After three years using the legendary Xperia X10, it's finally given out on me and died. Is this a good upgrade over that? Where I live, it is possible to get the LG G2 and the HTC One M7 for around the same price, but I have my reservations about buying them because they're old models.
Should I get this phone, or go for something else?

N3 Neo is definitely a big upgrade over Xperia X10 in all respects!
Now coming to ur point regarding the other two phones u mentioned.. I think among the 3 u should choose between N3 Neo & G2, now it depends on ur preferences which phone u do choose, both phones have their own advantages-
G2 over Neo:
- 1080p screen
- More powerful GPU if ure a hardcore gamer
- Handy size
- IPS display
- Great dev support
Neo over G2:
- Bigger screen if u like the extra real estate
- Note features & S-Pen
- No overheating issues
- Samsung has much better service support
- Better battery life
- Super Amoled screen
- Expandable storage & removable battery
Ure from Trivandrum so I don't think both the phones have nearly the same cost.. in fact G2 is much costlier!
Flipkart prices - 27.5K for Note 3 Neo & G2 (32gb) for 36K
buy wisely!
I never like phone with sealed battery (Though I am having iPhone, which was a wish to have always).

Thanks man. Actually, the prices of both phones are nearly the same, if you know dealers. The main problem with the Note 3 Neo seems to be the lack of developer support. Coming from the X10 (which had a HUGE developer base), the support on this forum seems to be lacking.
Is there a 4.4 update for the Neo?

Yeah.. local dealers may give u better deals.
If ure a flashaholic then this phone is not for u (atleast for now).
I used to be a flashaholic having the S2 which still has excellent dev support, but since I've bought this phone, my desire to root & modify have vanished.. the phone has exceptional battery life, smooth performance & a lot of neat features which I love. I don't plan to use aosp & cm roms cos this phone is a note & the S-Pen defines it!
Nowadays we get most of the new cool features through Xposed so no point about stock based custom roms.. but yeah it's about personal preference!
The KitKat update is due and we have still not recd it (u know sammy is slow with updates).. we'll get it shortly I guess..

What do you mean by this Xposed? What is it exactly? And as for flashing and developer support, I'm not too keen on those. The only reason I turned to the forums was because my old X10 had started to lag. I suppose the only reason I'll need to root this phone would be to remove some of the trashy apps made by Samsung that nobody uses, like S Voice and the like.

you get all the S-Pen features of the bigger brother in the neo, the features that have been stripped down are display (720p), RAM (2gb), processor (well, can't really call it less powerful), some other small things are display profiles, air gestures, camera but nothing as such which is a deal breaker. If u want the full Note 3 software suite experience at a much cheaper price, this phone is the one for u!

Yeah, I know the specs of the model . I wouldn't call the 720p display a letdown. Let's face it, in India, using a 1080p screen is quite hard, especially if you're unemployed and a student. And with this year's iteration of the Note, it'll be even more difficult to use it. Who the hell watches 2K videos anyway? Not to mention, unless the GPU in the next Note is the Adreno 420, it'll be underpowered like the G3. Seriously, manufacturers have gone completely retarded this year.

That's so true.. TBH I find the display really good (better than S4 in terms of colour reproduction), my previous daily driver was the GS2 which has a 217 ppi screen, so 267 ppi is a major jump!
I don't believe in the crazy spec jump we have with every iteration. I found FHD itself to be a stretch, but 2K is as of now useless.
I'm really happy with my phone, always had a dream to own a Note series device (they were always out of budget, I too am a student).. just a rare stutter is visible but the features completely outweighs that rare moment.

Even worse is the fact that the manufacturers apparently think that the S400 with cortex A7 cores is somehow better than the dual core Krait or the dual core A15 configuration. It's a big step back in terms of raw processing power. That's the only reason why I thought of this device. All the others have stupid S400 cores, including the HTC One mini 2 and the Galaxy S5 Mini (which are likely to priced above this one).
As for the display, my older phone was the X10, which had around 240ppi. I'm sure the 720p display will be a big boost

The hexa core configuration in this phone is excellent, no overheating (which is common with other exynos phones) and consistent performance. Seriously, I still don't know why the manufacturers don't use Cortex A15 dual cores, they are quite powerful. The minis nowadays are plain stupid, half the customers don't even know how they are being fooled, they just see the "Quad core" monicker and blindly buy much costlier phones. Just look at that phone G Pro lite, I mean seriously, 25K for that thing? ?
720p is fine, text too is quite sharp.

I am waiting to see the responses you get. I, too, am thinking of getting a new phone. I am still using the Nexus 4. The LG G3 can be had for quite a bit cheaper (at least on AT&T) right now. It is $480 vs. $650 for the Nexus 6.

N6 less lag, worst battery, and personally I don't like that much the screen, and way too big

I thought the G3 was supposed to have a pretty good camera? It seems everything I read contradicts something else I've read. The battery life is good, the battery sucks. The screen is amazing, the screens nothing special. There's tons of lag, there isn't really any lag. I don't know what to think.

Worst camera than N6, but it's a decent one.
I prefer IPS rather than Amoled, so for me, better screen the G3.

I thought the G3 was supposed to have a pretty good camera? It seems everything I read contradicts something else I've read. The battery life is good, the battery sucks. The screen is amazing, the screens nothing special. There's tons of lag, there isn't really any lag. I don't know what to think.

The G3 has an excellent camera. It rivals the iPhone 6 and beats the iPhone 5s.
I would personally take the G3 over the Nexus 6. The G3 has expandable memory and a removable battery. It's also smaller and lighter and it feels better in your hand. The Nexus 6 is just too big as well. Beyond 5.5" phones become too big IMO.

OK. I'm wrong. Perhaps I just get the bad one.

Thanks everyone for your replies on this.
I don't mean to hijack this thread from OP, but would like opinions if it's ok.
I'm torn between going ahead and buying the G3 at it's current AT&T price of $480 (using Next), or waiting on some of the new models that are coming out. Specifically, the Galaxy S6, the HTC M9, the Flex 2, and finally the Asus Zenfone 2. All of those, with the exception of the Zenfone 2, will be at least $650 I presume, therefore the G3 is quite a bit cheaper. So, I'm not sure if the features of these new devices is worth waiting and paying more, or should I just go ahead and get the G3 now with it's $480 price tag?
Thanks again everyone.
My friend has also asked for my opinion whether he should buy a phone now or wait for the next flagships and my advise is : wait for it. The first few new phones should appear in stores in mid March - April, as Snapdragon 810 appears it might be worthwhile to wait for it as it supports 64bit vs the current 32bit.
Anyway, my opinions for OP's question is to go for the Nexus 6. I currently have a LG G3 and i find that its battery sucks (i came from a HTC Butterfly S and LG G2, im quite a heavy user (games, reddit, whatsapp and calls) and my screen on time at most is only maybe 3 to 3 and a half hours at best, while my Butterfly S was able to reach around 5-6hours vs my LG G2 4-5hours. I find that the 2K screen is not worth the battery life at all, its barely comparable with just a Full HD screen, and the processor cant handle it properly.
Camera is fantastic. HTC Butterfly S's camera utilises Ultrapixels (the same as the HTC One M7 and M8) and the G3 beats it completely. It takes miliseconds to snap a photo.
The LG G3 LAGS. Its not the kind of lag you get when you use a low end phone, its more like...microlags. For example - my LG G2 and LG G3 was at one point both running Resurrection Lollipop Rom, and while the LG G2 was really fast and fluid, the G3 feels different, everything seems slower and abit jaggedy, though its not visible ; more like as a gut feeling. Its more like the processor is struggling to handle the screen resolution itself, and somewhat succeeds though not entirely.
If i were you i would go for the Nexus 6, though the price and expandable storage takes some consideration.

1. Batterylife on the G3 is better then with the Nexus 6
2. Tried the new 20H firmware? No lag for me on that rom and i have many apps running in the background.
Just my 2 cents but i think besides your allready mentioned considerations the G3 is the better device because of the many usefull extra features it offers next to barebone android N6.

1. I somehow doubt it with my usage, Nexus 6 is AMOLED too which saves even more battery than G3's IPS screen.
2. Hmm ill try it now, though currently trying CloudyG3. Its not the number of apps it can run, the lag happens during more of its animations even when theres no apps in the background.
I'd choose G3, the nexus 6 is way big for me. The most important is I like the G3 outlook, it's gorgeous
And what about choosing between Sona Z3 vs HTC M8? Or other alike candidate (Samsung is not an option)?

LG G3 or Moto X 2nd Gen - which will I be happier with?

Hey so been looking around quite a bit at different phones and I think LG G3 appears to be a winner on paper. For phones which I can get for ~free with my AT&T upgrade (which knocks out the Note 4, but includes Moto X 2nd gen, galaxy S4) it has the biggest screen at 5.5" and the biggest battery at 3,000 mah, expandable memory (which the Moto X lacks), the back is removable to replace the battery/sim/etc (Moto X lacks), and has 3 gb of ram. However, I keep reading various reviews, both by critics and on Amazon, and people seem in agreement that the Moto X offers a better experience to the user than the LG G3. They say the G3 is buggy and bloated, the moto x is vanilla android and runs faster for it, the moto x screen is a better picture with the amoled feature, the battery lasts longer in the moto x because the screen does not draw as much power, and one reviewer even states that the G3 performs WORSE on benchmarks than the G2 . I'm curious what your all experience has been? Any insights or thoughts to share to help with this decision? I want to like the G3 better for a variety of reasons, but also don't want to ignore common experience. (well actually I'd like to get the Xperia Z3 for the 20 mp camera, but damn it only has a 5.2" screen, and it doesn't even seem to be sold for AT&T anywhere that I can find).
Thanks in advance!
I will try to give you an honest review , YES the phone is good on paper BUT on daily use is bad , its terrible , you read CPU with 2.5 Ghz woooow , BUT the phone gets hot in 5 minutes and forget about those Ghz , youll get like 1.2 to 1.5 Ghz , because of the 2k screen that gets too hot , battery drains like a 2013 smartphone , snapdragon 801 is a big no no on 2k screen
Camera is bad compared with a Sony Z2....
talking about the LG G2 if it weren't the micro-SD , the removable battery and the camera , it would be a downgrade
i consider the LG G2 better ....better battery life , gaming experience ....
If your choice depends on the price i would consider a sony xperia Z2 , the Lg G3 is not that bad , but having read dozens of persons regretting the buy.....
I would definitely buy this phone(LG G3) if the price were between 200 and 250$ , nothing more
THE BIGGEST CON IS THE SILLY 2K screen , you can lower the resolution but those pixels are still alive .....
this G3 model is a complete headache.....:crying: , i regret not buying the Z2
PD: my english is not good k

I`am not fanboy of anything realy. Whats wrong is wrong, i agree with the thermal throttling making the phone slower at times. you can however flash a custom rom or kernel to increase the threashold. The camera is great imo and the software is a joy to use compared to Samsung for instance. You`re opinion is a bit too negative about the phone imo. Overall its a good phone and price/quality ratio is excellent. Just my 2 cents

Agreed. It sounds like he got a dud or was expecting too much. My phone has never overheated and I can go at least 24 hours without recharging. If I pushed the battery all the way down to 0%, I could probably go 30-36 hours. As most people have the ability to charge their phone every day, going 24 hours is good enough.
The camera on the phone is great as well as the button placement and double tap to wake/sleep. Paired with G3 Tweaksbox and the user experience is delightful.
I've never used the Moto X 2014 but the G3 is by no means a bad phone. One of the best of 2014 IMO.
A few reasons I love this phone:
2k screen
Removable battery
microSD support
Excellent camera
One of the highest screen to body ratios on any phone currently out
Great button placement
Loud speaker
Regarding the thermal throttling and other performance issues, I'm curious, is this still a problem or any better if you go through and debloat the phone (have seen various guides around that look pretty straightforward). Or is it actually more related to the screen size and pixels?
On that note, how does the quality of the screen display compare between the lg g3 (an IPS display right?) And an amoled display like the moto x or galaxy series? Is one a higher picture quality in terms of color, etc?
One of my best friends owns a moto x 2nd gen. I must say it is a beauty, and the feel in the hand is amazing, it screams quality. It has one front facing speaker which is good. Display is a bit on the warmer side, it looks nice and "contrasty", although i'm not a fan of Amoled displays. Oh, and it is very very snappy. Nearly stock android and quick updates is also always a plus. My friend praises it's battery life even though on paper it is nothing special, but it looks like the software is optimized well. As long as you're not a heavy gamer it should easily get you through a day.
I have the 32/3GB G3, i came from a nexus 5. I already mentioned this somewhere around here, it's not as smooth as a nexus 5 (or moto x 2014), but i like some of the added functionality and i can live with the occasional microlags. The speaker is powerful, even though it is firing backwards. The display is ok, i would'nt say it's gorgeous as some say around here, but it's also not bad as others do.
Before i got my G3 i was worried about overheating issues that i read about online, and i have to say, for now i haven't faced this issue (maybe because it's winter and temp. is low, which of course does not count for temp. indoors)
Low thermal throttling threshold is not only a G3 thing, it's also well known on nexus 4 & 5 (both made by LG).
I think lollipop still needs a lot of optimizing (including for nexus devices), and i believe the G3 can only perform better in the future. Although, IMO it will never be as smooth as something running (nearly) stock android.
Oh, and battery life on my G3 is amazing. Over 5h of screen on on a full day uptime. (With my usage pattern of course). Add to all that microSD expansion option, and removable battery -if you're into that or need extra juice. The camera is also a plus on the G3's side.
No one can make the decision instead of you. It's your call. You have to add the + and - of both, and see what suits you best.
My advice is, if you're asking for the better software experience, are not afraid of burn-in on an amoled display and don't need a removable battery/ expandable storage, then go with the Moto X 2014.

Yea you are exactly right. I think it is bothersome that the Moto X does not provide for expandable storage nor battery replacement. But the user experience is important; don't want glitches and hangs. Though that being said, I'm currently using a Galaxy S3 with the unofficial Omni rom port and their kernel, and while it does have some glitches and hang ups it doesn't bother me too much, so I imagine the LG G3 would perform much more smoothly, especially if the Stock rom is in operation rather than a custom port.
Have you tried any of the debloating? (lots of tutorials, here's the one I bookmarked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-g3/general/guide-how-to-remove-bloatware-att-lg-g3-t2822501)
I'm curious if that would not make the OS feel more "snappy" and "vanilla android" as people keep praising the Moto X for. If that were the case then hands down I would go for the G3 with the removable battery, expandable memory, larger sccreen, etc.
Side note - even though the Moto X does not have a removable back, I would assume there is still a way to exchange the sim easily for when traveling abroad, etc?

The G3 is definitely quicker than the S3 (i had one for 3-4 months back in the day).
As for "debloating", don't take any guide word for word, tastes differ, and there are things you probably wouldn't want to move/delete. I used to "debloat" my nexuses by deleting all Google crap that is found in the playstore, so removing from /system and installing on /data, and then greenify what i want to greenify, and even on a nexus you would see a lil boost in battery and lower RAM usage. So, yeah, removing anything form /system on a G3 should help a bit performance wise, to what extent? i'm not sure. My G3 is full stock and unrooted for the moment, and as i said, i'm not bothered by the occasional lil hickups here and there.
Side note - even though the Moto X does not have a removable back, I would assume there is still a way to exchange the sim easily for when traveling abroad, etc?

not sure, you should check with your carrier, but if you buy it from Moto directly you do get the lil pin to eject the sim (like the one iphones and many unibody android phones use)
Just saw this, apparently I can get the lg g3 for $0.01 from amazon and they will give me $100 gift card! Hmm, probably will go with being paid $99.99 to take lg g3 over moto x!
