Fire tv 2 stuck at boot - stock - help! - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, my stock fire TV 2 only boots as far as coloured Amazon logo then gets stuck. I have used the usb keyboard trick to get to recovery, 'Amazon system recovery <3e>'. There are no menu options available. Is there anything I can do ??
Any advice is much appreciated.

Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/firetv-2-unbrick-image-t3313349

Thanks, I will try the link tonight, when my usb cable arrives!
My only concern is that adb has not been enabled on the Fire TV so will this method still work?

Should not have anything to do with it as this procedure is based on bootloader/preloader, it connects before box s/w is initialized however you may need to install the drivers. Take a look at Step 2 in this guide: http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-root-the-amazon-fire-tv-2/

if you have a problem then go seek help. the user was polite. you on the other hand aren't. as far as i can see, you've not added anything useful to this thread.
i will remind you the code of conduct expected by xda members. if you want a link I'll send it.
this is in q&a so please respect other users.
to th op: as mentioned above, install drivers and unplug power. plug in usb, start the script and power on. it will take around 2 hours or more but it'll work.

Many, many thanks to bula1ca and El_Nino9 for your prompt responses. I now have a working AFTV2 - I'm a happy man.
Thanks guys so much.
(Soundahfekz I have chosen to just ignored your comment)

I am sorry if i sounded like i did not do any searching or research on resolving this issue..
In fact i have been searching on the webby for the whole day looking for the answers and found many.. but none were able to work for me... It may be due to my limited capabilities in understanding and therefore i am seeking for help in this forum...
I believe the purpose of this forum is to share and help out everyone in any way possible.... Its good that you have bought a KF for your finacee but i dun see any rationale in boasting here what you have achieved... not everyone is able to resolve everything just by doing some research like you.
I am just a sincere noob KF user who is looking for some help... Appreciate if i can have some constructive comments instead... thanks

My suggestion would be to take some time out to read over the first two posts in this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547
The first will help you get some basic understanding of how these pieces fit together. If you are using Windows, the second makes sure you have the device drivers installed correctly. Once you've done that, you'll want to set the bootmode on your device back to normal using KFU. Provided the Kindle Fire software is working correctly, you should be able to reboot and get it working normally again.

[Q] Son in trouble with pissed off dad about bricked KF!

OK, I have ready many posts and guides an am completely lost. This is my 12 year old sons Kindle Fire that he decided to "root". I am fairly computer savvy but this thing has got me baffled. He used "superoneclick" and now it tries to boot and stops at the kindle fire boot screen and goes no further. Any help on pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. I do know this. The hard reset obviously does not work because I have tried that at least 100 times. My pc currently does not allow me to access it as a drive although it does show up. It sounds like a bootloader" problem? Again, please give me hand before I kill my son after telling him in advance not to do this.
Thanks
Forrest
Try and see if you can get KindleFireUtility to recognize your Kindle Fire
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889
Veeman, thanks I will try that and report back.
do you have fastboot?
type
fastboot devices in terminal and see if it returns your kindle number.
you are stuck in fastbootmode.
kfu will sort it out for you.
some more info would be of help.
what operating system on pc?
has your son got fastboot installed in sdk/tools or sdk/platform tools?
what stage was he at in the rooting process?
don't worry, has far as i know there is only one hardbrick issue at the moment, and that has to do with one type of recovery and doing a wipe/restore.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I understand your concern, and I don't mean to be out of line and tell you how to be a parent but...
If you're really computer savvy, you know that on the way there, you fudged some settings that made the computer unstable or unbootable. You installed programs, printers, a different way and had it not quite work out because you didn't follow directions.
My point is this: A 12 year rooting his kindle shows a level of intellectual curiosity that I think should be commended and encouraged. Any electrician, programmer, repair guy, anyone who does this kind of stuff will tell you; they learned the most when they screwed up.
What I would do? Work together with him to fix it. Show him what and how you're doing it, how you're asking for help (and that that's okay) and where to find what he needs to fix it.
You're not hard bricked, at least its unlikely, you're likely just stuck in fastboot which is not a big deal at all.
Just take it with a grain of salt. I know to when a kid breaks something it's "There goes X dollars" But sometimes, you have to break some eggs.
Good luck though.
Well, you came to the right place for guidance! I'm sure a forum search for "stuck in fastboot" would lead you and your son in the right direction. Unless there is a better way I'm not aware of, you will need to get adb up and running on a PC (which is most of the work). Then you will be able to get the kf out of fastboot by issuing commands from your computer's terminal/command prompt
But....
I think you should let your son do it... Especially if he plans on keeping his fire rooted. "Rooting" allows users to make changes to critical system files... On one hand this is really cool because it will allow your son to load custom ROMs (operating systems) and take full advantage of the kf's hardware....But, it will also make it very easy to royally screw things up.
So, if that's something he's interested in he needs to learn how to troubleshoot and fix things himself. You definitely came to the right place though... xda is a very sweet resource.
Goodluck!

Update
Ok folks, thanks for all the input so far. We (my son and I) have worked on it and found KFU useful. We installed the latest update and it is now working. However, TWRP will not go away. We need to take this in for service so I need to reset everything. We have tried the wipe and install of the update several times it restarts with the blue kindle fire logo with the option for recovery. How do we get rid of this?

1. Download Kindle Fire Software Update Version 6.3.1
2. Rename the file to update.zip
3. Get in to TWRP and mount USB drive
4. Copy update.zip to Kindle Fire
5. Unmount USB drive
6. Do factory reset, then wipe system cache, and dalvik cache
7. Flash the update.zip
Tera Tike, thanks for the answer. I have tried that multiple times and the twrp blue kindle fire with boot options keeps coming back.

Try letting it sit while it "bootloops."
Might sound strange but I've had this exact same thing happen recently after a fresh install, and it loaded up back to normal after a handful of loops.
sbeddoesdesign, you are right i was upset not about the act but that he done it after i told him not to, then he lied to me about doing it. Either way, I have calmed down about it now and he is helping and participating. We are learning a lot together and its good dad/son time.
anomalya, i tried that and let it sit for an hour and no change.
FIXED
Thanks to all who helped. We finally got it to work correctly. Everyone was a big help and we appreciate everything.
I am glad that you got it working, but I am posting this for anyone else that can't seem to read or do a simple search. If you have the KFU all you need to do is have it running and restart your KF while connected the computer, and send the normal boot cmd when it first connects for those few seconds, and you are good to go, but seeing how too many people are to stupid to understand this, I believe that everyone should stop responding to them!!! We see this too often and everyone gives them this long work around...

Are -any- such problems fixable with KFU? :silly:
Yeah, because 99% of the problems can be fixed by simply sending the command to start in normal boot you are offended and want to try and say I was saying something about you? If you are offended, then yu might be one of the people that can't seem to learn from the past!!!

[Q] Clone entire Fire Stick?

Hello. I've been doing research and just can't seem to find a way to clone my original fire sticks onto the other two. It seems most "cloning" or "back-up" applications out there are geared towards cloning or backing up Kodi only...and not the stick.
So, does anyone know if there's a way to clone a stick so that Kodi and everything else I've installed onto it will be on the other sticks when complete?
Thnx!

Mate, why are you bumping all these "cloning/backup" threads? One should be enough!
However, asking "how to" it's not enough, more details are required, like what do you want to backup, for what purpose and if you are rooted or not..
If you are rooted and have twrp, then you could use TWRP to backup boot, system, vendor and data.
Or you can use a terminal and" dd " method to backup most partitions (this is an advanced method and i only recommended it if you really know what you are doing).
Sorry ._.
My request is same as OP. Not sure if I am rooted or not but I followed the hardware mod for the 4k firestick mantis and I dont want to wait for the OTG plug to arrive.
Am on the twrp screen swipe to continue scree but I don't have keyboard mouse to attach right now.
How can I run commands from abd? I was installing stuff like for 4 hours I don't want to do it again. I want to copy THE ENTIRE firestick exactly how it is.
Thanks and sorry again...just wanted to reply to old threadz so they dont feel left out lol

In this case, you are unlocked but not rooted. If i were you, i would wait for the OTG y cable to arrive before messing with anything else.

It's easy. Would recommend you use a USB Stick & verify the files are not corrupt.

And in case your device was rooted with KingRoot or the likes...

Note: NEVER WIPE "SYSTEM". And if you mistakenly do. Make sure you reflash a PreRooted ROM before any rebooting or powering down.

Yes, you should be able to use the ADB Mouse emulator. I have never tried it but it should be the same steps/principal as it's done on the USB-less FireTV Stick. Just start reading from Step 12 of the following guide. (DO NOT DOWNLOAD FIRETV STICK FILES, Just follow how to enable the ADB Mouse Emu)
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-inst...d-an-initial-rom-on-a-rooted-fire-tv-stick-1/
Since you will combining two guides. Make sure your fully awake & know what you are doing. Don't flash the wrong devices file. The prior Guide is correct. From this guide you are only reviewing how to use ADB's Mouse Emu.
It might be easier to just get a USB Hub & connect both a USB Stick & KeyBoard. Btw, wireless USB keyboards work fine.

k, so let's go thru the options. After some info.
Is it a FTV1 (Only has a USB port) or FTV2 (Has a USB Port & a microSD Port).
Then go to Settings/Applications/Manage Installed Applications & look for either TowelRoot or KingRoot or anything with King in the name.
Also check if you see SuperSU v2.46, BusyBox, XPosed in Apps. They will be in alphabetical order.
Do you have a particular setup that would be to complicated to start from scratch?
Report back on the ?'S above & I can give you a more detailed answer for your device.
Got it!!! Running latest software. Thanks for all your help.all I did was wipe data, cache, delvick and flashed rom

My friend has a fire tv 2 box sloane.

I had a box the other week that was on 5.2.7.3 so the issue isn't if it only updates to your current version.
There may be a corrupted ota update apk in your build, have you made sure that ota updates are enabled in >settings>my firetv and tried the adb commands to make sure they are actually enabled?

I haven't run adb commands on it yet nor any fire device only android phones. I don't physically get the box in my possesion again until this weekend.
That's why I'm asking though...
Can I simply flash firmware in the stock recovery? Like via USB?
Whats the gist of recovering this aftv besides factory reset in settings?

Sorry to hear the factory reset process didn't work for you, I suspect there may be a problem with the update protocol (either system or the ota apk). Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong?
Please Note :This method requires a Linux installation either on a pc or live USB.
To flash firmware to your device you will have to unlock it first as per OP unlock instructions.
Here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/unbrick-fire-tv-stick-2-anti-rollback-t3986303
This will unlock your box bootloader and install TWRP.
After TWRP is installed you can then choose what ever firmware(s) pre rooted you want for the box.
The general unlocking process is quite simple. If your friend is game for it being opened, shorted and unlocked that is.
You will first have to get acquainted with adb and boot your pc from a Linux installation or Linux distro Live USB to complete the amonet script process.
(This is the amazing program that flashes the TWRP custom recovery to your device)
All of this may sound quite daunting and bewildering but this box is easy to unlock.
It is totally upto you but this is the only way I can see for you to gain control over your friends box and upgrade the firmware.
The guys here will be there should you need help at anytime.

As stated by @Sus_i the diplomatic mediatek exploit will only work upto version 5.2.6.9. Any higher version of fireos then you will have to use the hardware root, twrp method from the thread I posted above.
Good you are familiar with Ubuntu/Linux as the commands for the script will be run through terminal with the downloadable amonet script in the thread.
After you've installed/updated adb+fastboot py serial through command line of your Linux install. You're ready to open up your device, and refer to the dat0 located in the photo of OP

Thank you. I get a little confused on version numbers with this thing. Does fire tv sw/fw go up like normal fw? Like does it go 5.2.6.0 then 5.2.6.1 and so on?
I have:
5.2.6.0 so this one can be done with software method?
5.2.7.4 this one has to be done by shorting internal stuff+linux right?

Yes I had to edit the post there as i got confused myself, I had wrote 5.2.7.0 lol.
So just to clarify 5.2.6.9 and under you can use mediatek software root.
5.2.7.0 and over requires the hardware short method.

Lets say, it 'should' work :good:
I don't know if someone tested it on your OS version, because it's much older than the exploit itself.
The most current OS version back then was 5.2.6.8, the mtk root method came up and everybody was happy, finally a new root method for the second gen box
Big A patched it with 5.2.7.0.
Needless to say that most people tested it on 5.2.6.8 and .9.
It may be that the exploit isn't adapted to your OS version, but who knows.
Let us know what happens.
Good luck
Perfect thank you for the clarification.
One last question?
I messed up, I factory reset ftv 2 box using my tvs remote and now cannot set it up because my ftv remote is broken/or this particular ftv2 box doesn't pair with Amazon remotes.
Is it possible to somehow setup fire tv (from setup screen after factory reset) without a fire tv remote?

Ok, I see. You could try it this way:
-remove the batteries, then press 30 seconds the home button.
-Put new fresh batterys back in.
-Try to pair the remote again, but keep pressing the home button for at least 30 seconds.Do that again and again...
Could be that it takes some time (and attempts), until the remote connects.
If it won't work and you don't know someone with a remote near to you, take a look for a guide with a usb keyboard or so at www.aftvnews.com or xda forums search.

THANKS!
NOW I NEED URGENT HELP
Rooted ftv 2 with short method now stuck at twrp.
Can i simply now install prerooted rom from within TWRP via rom on SD card?
edit
so I rooted aftv 2 box with shorting method then got into twrp. Then flashed prerooted fire tv image but when I rebooted it gets stuck on amazon fire tv splash screen and won't move.
I tried clearing cache 1x in TWRP afterwards, then reboot but still hangs at Amazon boot.
What am I missing?

Have you flashed this way, first the 5.2.6.7_v2 and then a later 5.2.7.x one? It's mentioned in the prerooted thread.
Wipe cache and dalvik before you reboot.
If it won't boot, you probably need to wipe data and internalsd too. Best is to use the 'format' data tab in TWRPs wipe section.
After that, the box should boot, but you need to log on at the setup, pair the remote and so on...

I just did this on a used device I purchased that came with 5.2.6.7 and it worked perfectly. Follow the instructions and you'll have no issues and none of that jumper stuff.
