I recently took the newest AT&T OTA update even after flashing the stock recovery and unrooting, but it which got me soft bricked on the splash screen. I immediately backed up system and data in TWRP and decided to flash a GPE rom. I'm unable to restore data without having Sense --> GPE issues and I want to completely restore to stock. I'm S-On and tried relocking the bootloader and running HTC's AT&T RUU, but that told me my system version wasn't compatible. I really just want to go back to stock and have a working phone rather than run this barebones GPE rom. I was thinking the CID being CWS__01 has something to do with my issues, but I'm not positive. I'd run a nandroid backup, but I can't find one for my CID. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know there are a bunch of these threads, but none of them match my odd CID. I'm on TWRP 2.8.1.0. Thanks so much!

EDIT: Just tried the RUU from here http://www.droidviews.com/restore-att-htc-one-m8-stock-firmware/. Image version is listed as 4.28.502.2 and when I run the RUU it says it's being set to Image version 1.58.502.1. I get Error [140] Bootloader Version Error when running the RUU. I realized I'm trying to flash an old RUU, so I'm going to try the 4.28.502.2 one I just found.
Solution:
http://dl3.htc.com.s3.amazonaws.com...40.45.C33065.00_F_release_446225_signed_2.exe worked properly and let me reset my phone after the OTA messed it up. For anyone with the issue of being S-On and having a bricked phone, relock your bootloader and use this RUU.

All info that you need are there instead of that website
Hello,
Two months ago I upgraded my android version to 5.0.1, since then wifi problems start to appear.
There are two problems:
1) When the phone is sleeping, the wifi disconnect. once I wake the phone, even if it still locked, the wifi turns on again after 1 second. (I checked the advanced settings and "keep wifi on during sleep" is on "always").
2) Once I go from the wifi zone and come back after a while, I can't connect to the wifi. it just keep scanning, and when I tap on it to see available networks it just shows white page (switching wifi on and off doing nothing).
This problem can be solve by turning airplane mode on and off, but it only helps for one time - once I go away and come back to the same wifi zone I need to do it again.
*I tried factory reset, doesn't help.
*I flashed another rom, from HD revolution to ViperOne, and now my android version is 5.0.2, doesn't help.
*This problem happens in every router, not only in a specific one.
Maybe going back to the stock recovery will solve the problem, but I don't think so.
Thanks in advance

Your android version is software version but not firmware version. You can't update your firmware by flashing ROMs.
Post your fastboot getvar all (delete serial & imei no.) then maybe that getvar info will point to your actual problem.

Your radio low version suggest that you have a 3.x firmware installed, not 4.x which is required for 5.0.x android version.
Here is the latest RUU for your device version : http://dl3.htc.com.s3.amazonaws.com...G_20.68.4196.01_F_release_446501_signed_2.exe
Relock bootloader & run RUU.
Later you can re-unlock bootloader and install any custom ROM that you like

I'm pretty new to all this, so I'll be glad to have some explanation.
What's "ruu"? And how do I relock the bootloader?
What's the difference between Android version and firmware version?
I need to wipe something before I run ruu?
You think this is what cause the Wi-Fi problems?
Thank you!
Here is a good read for you : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52484527
relock bootloader - run command fastboot oem lock (after you put your device in bootloader/fastboot mode and connect to PC)
No need to wipe anything - the RUU will remove all and replace everything with the latest images - data, system, firmware and ROM
Your wifi problem as mentioned earlier because your firmware is old and has old radio baseband and not meet the minimum requirement for Android 5.0..x
An important note : after you done the RUU thing, to install custom ROM or to root, you need to install latest TWRP 2.8.7.0
Don't use the old TWRP recovery that you have .. as seen in your getvar all, there are a few missing info because of outdated TWRP

Ok the status changed to "relocked" instead of "unlocked", now just run the ruu? is there any command or something?
edit: I need to gain s-off first?

It's harder to help when you ask all non-related stuff. I don't mention anything about S-Off because it is not necessary.
I know your device is S-on, that's why I said relock bootloader
Only two steps :
relock bootloader - run comman fastboot oem lock
run RUU - right click the RUU and select run as administrator on windows context menu
What you need :
USB2.0 on PC
Latest HTC USB driver installed - if not sure, download HTC Sync Manager - http://www.htc.com/us/support/software/htc-sync-manager.aspx
install it as it will install the latest driver then uninstall the HTC Sync Manager but leave the drivers.

RELOCKED is fine to run the RUU (as is LOCKED). UNLOCKED is the only status for that particular flag that prevents RUU.
You don't need s-off to RUU.
I relock the bootloader and run the ruu and now the wifi is working fine!
Thank you very much for your help!

First - edit your post to remove serial & imei no.
Your baseband version suggest that you have a 3.xx.xxxx.x firmware installed.
You need a 4.xx.xxx.x firmware to have a working wifi when install a lollipop ROM.
What device that you have ? 0P6B16000 can be a Canadian device and some South American device. Update your firmware to the one meant for your device version.
My is Canadian device. I couldn't find a ruu version of device

There is no RUU available for Canadian device. At least tell what it is .. Rogers, Bell, Telus or ??? You can try to find a nandroid backup and stock recovery, restore then do OTA to update to the latest.
Or .. as your device is S-Off, you can change it WWE device i.e change MID to EU MID then install EU RUU.

Rogers
As I mentioned above try find a backup for device.
You need 3.34.631.4 and its stock recovery.
I already switch off my PC and in bed. Not sure whether I have those files in my collection.
I'll check tomorrow when I have time but try to find it first. Should be available.

Pretty easy, if you've already unlocked a bootloader on an HTC device before.
1) Backup any personal data you want to keep (to SD card, or off phone such as PC or cloud)
2) Unlock bootloader via HTCDev.com process
3) Flash TWRP 3.0.2 by fastboot per instructions found here: https://twrp.me/devices/htconem8gsm.html
4) Put ROM on SD card or phone's internal storage
5) Boot into TWRP
6) Do default wipe in TWRP (data, Dalvik, cache)
7) In TWRP, go to install, select the desired ROM
8) Reboot and drink beer

S-off is only needed for some specific things, such as changing CID/MID, manually flashing firmware or radio, flashing modified hboots, and some other things.
You don't need s-off to unlock the bootloader, flash ROMs, root, etc. Its not worth the $25 to s-off by sunshine for most folks, if the goal is simple to flash ROMs, root, etc.

That looks like a stock nandroid (stock ROM) in TWRP-restorable format. Its not applicable to what you want to do. Its also older than your current firmware version 6.12.401.4
Also, you don't need to fastboot oem lock, for what you want to do. You only need to reboot the bootloader if you are flashing an official RUU or signed firmware.zip. Relocking the bootloader at any point in the process will cause you major problems, as you can't flash custom recovery or custom ROMs with a locked bootloader.
Hey guys
like described in the thread title, i need a little help here, i got a HTC one M8, thats stock in fastboot.
it will not bootup to anything else than fastboot and RUU. no custom recovery is working or any rom.
i have read multiple threads by now and look 3 days and i can't find the right RUU for the device at all.
If someone could point me in the right direction here i would be grateful

for the steps to do here:
since device is S-ON, i need to relock the bootloader with fastboot oem lock
using the HTC_fastboot.exe with command prompt to get the device into RUU mode and after that flashing the correct RUU for it, after renaming the .zip itself to RUU.zip, right?
or is there any other way to get the device back to stock or at least a custom recovery / root whatever to set the device S-OFF?
i know the topic was here multiple times, but since device isn't mine and i really don't know what exactly was done before with it, i need a helping hand here.
any fitting android version, 5.0.1 or 6.0 would be fine, since the device will get root and later on S-OFF and a custom recovery and another nougat based android version.
as long as i can boot up with root, i would appreciate every help here.
Cheers
Mike
1. This device is not M8 but M8s.
2. There is no way to S-Off this device currently. Not supported by Sunshine.
3. There is no Nougat rom for M8s, only Marshmallow as current latest.
4. You shouldn't relock bootloader before you have a correct RUU in hand.
5. I know a lower RUU version is available for free but won't work on your device due to S-On
6. No same version but higher version 2.11.161.1 is available but will cost money
7. If you can unlock bootloader then you can restore 1.11.161.10 twrp backup and then OTA to current version 1.21.161.1 and OTA up to the latest.

Hi all,
I have an old HTC one m8 which was working fine when I stored it away last year. Today I tried to turn it on and found myself looking at safe mode menu with the heading
"Software status: Modified"
LOCKED
Security Warning
Now I have been going through the form for the last couple of hours trying different things but they dont seem to work.
e.g) I got a ver 4.20 RUU for my phone mentioned in this link
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/finding-ruu-t3283633
but that does not work because my phone currently is on OS-6.13 and apparently I can not downgrade to OS-4 while my phone is S-ON. (I get ERROR 159 IMAGE ERROR)
So i tried to make it S-OFF. Unfortunately from what I have read they only way to do that is through the adb tool which does not work in the fastboot mode I am currently stuck on (fastboot commands work fine from my PC). So I can't downgrade to the only RUU I have found for my modelid and cid. I have no idea how to proceed now.

There is no (current) valid method to s-off using adb. If you are talking about firewater, that method has not worked since 2014, and nothing you do will make it work.
The valid current method to s-off is with sunshine app ($25 US) but also requires a working OS.
You also do not need s-off to get the phone working again. Since a Marshmallow version RUU for your CID/MID is not available, you can restore the stock TWRP backup from the collection in the link below: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Unlock bootloader using HTCDev.com, install custom recovery TWRP, then restore the TWRP backup 6.13.206.5 using the instruction in the link above.
