Browsing trough the WP7 ROM dump, I came across this folder:
Code:
Phone_DPI_262
This seems to be a new resolution, because Windows mobile always supported DPI 192, 120 and 96.
Maybe this means a higher resolution for the coming Windows Phones.
Just a thought. Let me know what you think about it.

Maybe 800x800 or something. Sounds like an ugly squared tablet.

How do you know it's 800X800? I was more thinking about 1280X800.
Probably, but come to think of it.. Theres something called XGA and thats 1024×768.
To keep the widescreen ratio with 800x480 they would need something like 1200x720. Of course they are going to have other aspect ratios so I don't know.
This is a nice graphic that shows all resolutions...
I think WXGA would be the one that comes very close as it is 5:3 resolution just like WVGA.
262 DPI was actually mentioned by MS at MIX when they were talking about WVGA. I personally completely fail to understand what it means - it's supposed to be dots per inch, right? So without the size of the screen DPI is what exactly?
Well the screens won't get much bigger than the HD2 I think, expect if they're going to make tablets.
The problem is, the bigger the screen the lower DPI you should get at the same resolution. However, all VGA and WVGA devices previously had 192DPI in WM, regardless of screen size. So I guess it's a different thing here. What exactly it is I don't know.

That's true. I guess it doesn't tell us much, but at least it's bigger so either the screen size, or the screen resolution will probably be bigger.
WinMo 6.x supported 4 Logical DPIs (note that logical DPI is different from physical DPI, which is the bit that varies with each LCD panel/resolution)
96, 128, 131, 192
Note that a 5 inch panel might be operating at the same logical DPI as a 4 inch panel (lets say 192), but the physical DPI would be less on the 5 inch panel (larger physical pixel size)
If you were to change the logical DPI on a 4 inch screen from 192 to 262, while leaving the physical DPI the same (screen size/resolution does not change) - all on-screen elements would appear larger - more pixels would be used to draw each icon, scrollbar, etc.
Windows Phone 7 is showing 4 logical DPI's right now too:
96, 131, 192, 262
Just that we've lost 128 and picked up 262
Okay. But does that mean higher resolutions? Do you know if there will be higher resolutions?
The design of WinPhone 7 pretty much allows an arbitrary resolution, it's designed to be fully scalable. 1920x1280 @ 262 DPI @ 4 inches would make one ridiculous high res screen
As for what's in store, I wouldn't be surprised to see a large-format screen device like a tablet in the months following WP7's release.. but I don't have any specific knowledge of one yet.

Okay, yeah that would be indeed an amazing screen resolution for such a small screen!
A tablet would be very cool, I wonder if that's what HTC is working on.

Hehe nice one there. I'd like to know that too.
Maybe they need it for fully working HDTV support, although we're yet to see WP7 device that supports HDMI interface...
Possibly.
Zune supports it, so it would be odd if they wouldn't add HDMI support for WP7.
dont forget guys...higher resolution doesnt necessarily mean a larger screen.
you can still have a 1280 X 1024 etc etc higher res screen while still making it into a 3.7-4.3 inch screen.
hell you could even have a higher res screen into a 2.8 inch slot.
the difference with display screen isnt always about the resolution however its about the Pixel Size, the larger each pixel is the large the screen is, the smaller the pixels the smaller the screen.
just to give you guys a head up, at work i was wokring with an OLED Microdisplay screen that had the resolution of 1280 X 1024, YES better resolution than most HD TVS, however the display screen was less than an inch small, the reason is was because of how small the pixels were. its pretty cool.

Really, oh that's nice. Such screens would be really amazing on mobile devices.
With 330 ppi already set, do you think they will increase the ppi in the future.
I mean, we have reached "retina display", so what s the point to increase the ppi further ?
I see the iPads have around 260ppi, does it mean nexus will always have a better ppi than apple?
What do you think?

of course future device will have better hardware so better display more pixel, 4k and etc
but Apple... however compatible software needs for larger screen with more density and iOS not support it so far But they can use so it seems Apples policy is not to use so high-end device !!!

At first, sorry for my bad English.
There is NO SENSE AT ALL to increase the RESOLUTION of the display to more than 360-400 pixels per inch, for it would be a waste of hardware and resources. I say this because the human eye can resolve about 350 points per inch, only few can resolve about 400, and no one on Earth can resolve more than this. So, why a manufacturer would spend effort, time, money and hardware to make something that "is there, but can not be seen"? Forget about it.
Of course, I capsized RESOLUTION because there is a difference between resolution and screen size. Screen size, measured by the number of pixels on the x and y axis, is absolute, so it doesn't matter how big or tiny the pixels are. If I say I have a screen with, say, 4000 pixels wide, one can NOT figure out how big it is, or how crispy and beautiful are the images rendered on it, because these qualities are defined not by the number of pixels, but by the RESOLUTION instead, that is not an absolute measure, but a relative: it is a ratio between the amount of pixels and the real size (in inches, or milimeters, or whatever other measure unit used) of the screen. So, a photoghraph shown on a tiny (4") screen with 800 pixles wide can look way better than, say, if shown on a huge screen with 2000 pixels whide, but with 32" - and you need to put on the equation the DISTANCE you are from the screen. It is a complicated matter, it involves physics (optic) concepts to explain it, but you can think of it this way: your eye can tell apart two lines if they are far enough from each other, and if they are big enough. So, if a screen with high resolution (with a great number of pixels condensed in a tiny area) shows two lines that are only one pixel apart from each other, depending on the screen size and on the distance you are from the screen, your eyes can not see the two lines, but just one line instead. That's because your eye is not capable to see them as they are "printed".
To put it short: We will NEVER have a USEFULL screen with more than 400 pixels per inch. Anything more than this will be an unjustifiable waste of money and hardware. It would be the same as creating a headphone that can reproduce sounds beyond 30000 hertz or above 10 hertz - it would be useless, as our human ears can only hear sound frequences that are between the range of 20 and 25000 hz.
Sorry for the long, boring text...
This is what I m talking about.
Would be wiser to have longer battery life or faster processor than just more pixel that nobody can notice.
This is why apple stick on 260ppi

And again a useless Nexus/Apple comparison thread from you. Wow.
Just buy the Mini and be done with it. That is, if you don't already have one.
Are you a bat ? A human can be happy to be able to hear about 15-16kHz. If you´re one of the guys who likes to go to loud concerts very often, you can be happy if you can still hear frequencies around 10kHz
Well, about the higher resolution, it depends on the screen size. I guess 1920x1200 is good enough for a 7" Tab, you have to look very close in order to spot a pixel

Find 5 is Out of stock on EU Oppo site!

I'm so excited.
This is really IT.
I'm a huge fan of the G2 D802 but if the F7 gets it right, meaning, the promised 2K screen, the ridiculously large camera (50mb, WTF?!), some serious processor and getting the function keys on screen instead of the bottom part (which is so old fashion!!) then truly the Oppo Find 7 will be the best phone EVER and I'll lose my freakin mind because it's still not common in most places and I'll want it so badly :0)
i think it's to big, 5.5 screen is to much, my find 5 has 5.0 and it's already difficult to reach the corners..

This site claims a 13mp cam and SD800
Still, it looks pretty decent to me

yeah! same here, i was thinking about getting the htc m8, but with this oppo find 7 i think i just changed my mind... if they confirm that 50mp camera im totally in.
Confirmed specs so far
2 5.5inch displays,one QHD and one 1080p version
128GB SD Card support,
Removable battery,
LTE
and splash resistance
Rumors suggest S800 AB(1080p)S801(QHD),3GB RAM,a mind blowing 50mp camera and LED strip where the chin used to be on the Find 5.
This phone is so going to mop the floor with Samsung!
What for 50 Mpix if details are faded? What for if there is no optical stabilization? And what for if there is no good camera software like in Samsung is (many options, scenes and so on).
I am curious, but a bit sceptical.

Can;t wait. Changing my Find 5.
If I get it, it would be my first Oppo phone. If anyone have inputs on Oppo warranty experience, that would be helpful.
For me, its going to be between this phone and the OnePlus One. Unfortunately there isn't enough info and credibility for OnePlus yet. I am currently using the MotoX, OnePlus announced they will have the touchfree okay google feature, so that's a big deal for me. Custom roms is something I miss from Nexus as well, I know both companies work with CyanogenMod, but I don't know how popular the OnePlus One will be and how many devs will be working on it, so I'm more leaning toward the Find 7 right now. The price is going to be a big deal as well, since I've been used to Nexus and Moto X price and not willing to spend $600+ anymore. I'm guessing they will be in the low $500, but after VAT and at launch date I'm guessing the Find 7 will still be $600 or more initially, especially for the 1440p version.
For the camera, I'm mostly a point and shoot guy. I will use CyanogenMod with stock camera app anyway. I like the app Camera FV-5 if I want to fine tune it. Base on the 50MP samples, it will probably look as good as a very good 13MP and nothing more: http://www.gsmarena.com/more_alleged_50mp_oppo_find_7_camera_samples_emerge-news-7988.php Still, being 8000x6000 does give it room for editing. Fortunately for me I don't really buy phones for camera.

I won't hold my breath, but it would be nice to see an "all band" or at least North America bands that work on LTE.
I don't have LTE on my first gen note, so I probably wouldn't miss it, but, it would be nice to have it.
I'm pretty impressed, but not blown away by the specs. (No stereo speaker and the 50mp photo is software tricks, I knew about the removable back cover, but it doesn't look to have that previous Oppo's durability vibe, the back cover remind me of LG and Samsung plastic.) What I'm disappointed in is why they still keep the capacitive buttons. It's just unnecesary and make the phone larger than it is, which is the same issue with how large with both the HTC One are. I knew about the 5.5" screen and was anticipating the large size, but I was hoping they could squeeze it in a tighter package like how the Moto X managed.
It's actually about the size of the Note 3, I wasn't signing up for phablet size. After drawing the dimension of this phone on paper and super imposing my actual Moto X on it, which is roughly 1inch shorter and 1cm thinner, I think I will give this phone a skip. For those who can deal with Note 3's size, it's going to be a great device.
HTC One 2014 while having that HTC logo bar, still have a manageable size, so I might be interested if they have a Google Play edition, but probably not because it'll probably be overpriced like the current one. But also the HTC One is predicted to have 16MP camera, so suddenly the Find 7 isn't so impressive.
M8: 146 x 70.5 mm
Note 3: 151.2 x 79.2 mm
Find 7: 152.6 x 75 mm
Good thing I still have the OnePlus One to look forward to. I don't know, maybe one day I'll feel I can deal with the size.

OPPO give a 2 year international warranty. The QHD is $570 in China, so by the time it hits Amazon were looking at $599. Considering Note 3 32GB is $749,id say its a good deal, and it'll come with the O-band jogging accessory whereas the Note's fitband is sold seperate.
The 50MP snaps are really good, packed with detail, and there's no hump yaay. I'm eyeing the black carbon fiber F7,the way the phone looks its the same sturdy unibody of the Find 5 but you can lift the back cover.
I'm also watching oneplus, especially after talk of price < $400 and the 1080p Find 7 is $499 I want to see how much was shaved off.
I think i get one
And see what can i do with it ^^
Nice spec !
Hi All,
I've picked up a bit of a bargain phone called a Cubot Manito. It cost me £72 from Gearbest which seems to be the cheapest price for a 3GB phone around, however please feel free to do some research to find your favoured vendor.
Please see below for a little review of the phone.
Basic tech specs
Main Features:
Display: 5.0 inch HD screen
CPU: MTK6737 Quad Core 1.3GHz
System: Android 6.0
RAM + ROM: 3GB RAM + 16GB ROM
Camera: Back camera 8.0MP ( SW 13.0MP ) + front camera 1.3MP ( SW 5.0 MP)
Bluetooth: 4.0
Navigation: GPS, A-GPS
Sensor: G-sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Light sensor
SIM Card: Dual SIM dual standby, one is micro SIM card, the other is nano SIM card
Network:
2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
3G: WCDMA 850/900/2100MHz
4G: FDD-LTE 800/1800/2100/2600MHz
The Manito comes with a screen protector already applied and a case in the box which is great as I'm sure you'd need to go online to buy these - not likely to be in your local phone store.
The Manito comes with a 5 inch screen on a standard resolution of 1280×720 pixels (or 720P) which gives us a PPI (pixels per inch) of 294 - more than good enough.
In terms of display performance the colours looked good, whites were nice and white but the blacks were a little more like a dark charcoal. The phone has the 'Miravision' display tweaking option built in and I found that setting this to 'Vivid' gave the best results.
The build quality of the Cubot Manito was much better than I'd expect from a phone costing as little as this. It feels very solid and well put together, with the metal frame giving a bit of reassurance and a slightly more premium feel than the all-plastic devices that you generally get at this price range.
The back of the phone has a removable plastic cover, this is slightly soft touch and has a diamond pattern in it which I wasn't overly keen on but it did improve grip.
3gb of RAM is a great feature at this end of the pricing spectrum and this really helps the performance of the Manito. Although it only has a 1.3Ghz Quad Core CPU I didn't have any trouble with games like Temple Run or Hot Wheels, but I don't expect that it would cope too well with more hardcore 3D games.
In everyday use I didn't really notice any problems with the performance of the phone, though initial set up took forever when I was installing about 30 apps at once.
Cubot haven't played too much with Android, and this looks and feels like a pretty stock version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which most users will be more than happy with.
The camera performance of the Manito wasn't amazing, but again we need to bear price tag in mind. I have had phones that cost more with worse cameras. Photos taken outdoors in daylight came out quite well, but quality suffered as light levels dropped.
Video quality wasn't very good at all but that's to be expected.
GPS and Bluetooth both worked fine, I had this set up with my car using Android Auto and didn't experience any problems.
The biggest issue I had with the Cubot Manito was the battery - it's only rated at 2350mAh which is very small for a current phone. I found that if I left for work with a fully charged phone I would struggle to make it to about 10pm, so you may want to top up the battery during the day. Not a big issue as I'm sure most of us are used to doing this but as we're now seeing phones with 3000mAh being commonplace this seemed like a bit of a compromise.
Overall though I cannot complain about any aspect of this phone at this price. It seems an absolute bargain and does everything that most users would need at a fraction of the price of mainstream phones.
shipped with trojan.spy.agent.ytb youtube client and fotaprovider spyware
It's true about the shipped virus (I've read) but it's a good phone and you can sort the Operating System out using downloads on this site, NeedRom, and ChinaPhoneArena!
I got the samsung a70. I like the phone's 6.7 inch display. But the aspect ratio makes it a bit narrow. That's why I'm thinking about getting the huawei mate 20x which has a 7.2 inch screen. Do you think I should stay with this phone or buy the mate 20x?
Bigger screen, faster cpu, faster gpu....more expensive.
Yes its obviously an improvement in some areas - it's a different class of phone at a higher price point. The question is are those improvements important to you and is the addition cost justifiable. Since "better" is a subjective term, you would need to answer that one yourself.

I love the Samsung A70 phone's thinner aspect ratio because the extra length makes it a lot more practical as a phone and in most cases makes it as enjoyable to use for consuming media as a larger phone with 16:9 aspect ratio, and still fits in my pockets easy.
For my uses, which doesn't include a lot of video gaming, I don't ever want to use a 16:9 phone again.
Not to mention I only paid $370 USD for my A70.

Out of curiosity did you ever own or use the huawei mate 20x? Hope you would elaborate further on the a70 compared to the mate 20x if you did own the phone.
Huawei makes good phones but EMUI and locked bootloaders is a thing i can´t stand

But from what I read you can unlock and root the mate 20x. Unless I'm missing something.
Mate 20X but it costs double the price of the A70.
Excellent performance. Insane battery life. Excellent stereo speakers. Flagship build quality. Screen is wider and bigger but maybe less sharp than A70.
Mate 20X is a beast.
Alas, No Huawei for me as the problem with android updates and google play updates still not fully solved, then the bootloader is locked as i know and no custom development in kirin processors as snapdragon variants, narrow phone means easier to use and carry with one hand , a70 not a bad phone really the only things that pisses me off is i prefer stock vanilla android and only mono external speaker, but every thing else is near perfect

Is there really a big difference in display sharpness between the mate 20x and a70? They're both amoled and hdr. Do they look so similar that you can't tell the difference in sharpness?

Hey Mohamedselim. I'm kinda confused. You said there's a problem with android and google play updates? I don't get it. I thought emui gets updates. And I thought google play get updates too. Please explain.
You alao said the bootloader is locked. But I've seen on XDA where you can root the phone. Again please explain.
And which phone would you prefer?

Difference in sharpness must be noticeable. Mate 20X has a much bigger and wider 7.2 inch screen with a low pixel density of 346 only. While the A70 has a much smaller and narrower screen but a higher pixel density of 393.
This means A70 screen is definitely sharper. It's a very high quality super sharp AMOLED panel comparable to other Samsung flagships.
Meanwhile the Mate20X has an OLED panel not SAMOLED. Don't get me wrong, I have seen reviews on Youtube of the Mate20X and the screen looked very nice. It's not like we are talking about LCD vs AMOLED.
Mate20X is still the superior phone and multimedia beast.

Got to disagree with you on one issue. The info I researched is that the mate 20x is amoled not oled.
So you havent seen the a70 in person I assume.

So which phone do you prefer? The a70 or the mate 20x? And can you please give reasons for why... looking foward.

I prefer the Mate 20X hands down. Bigger and wider screen (A70 is too tall and narrow). better aspect ratio 18:9 (A70 has the ridiculous 20:9 which makes 90% of online videos appear with huge black bars on the sides). Better stereo speakers with loud and clean sound (A70 has a single mono speaker with just average loudness). Better premium build quality. Better performance with flagship chipset. Much better cameras. Amazing battery life I have seen 10 to 12 hours sot on reviews (A70 battery life didn't impress me at all) . Fingerprint sensor is blazing fast and super accurate (A70 fingerprint sucks).
That's all I can think of right now.
Amoled IS OLED, it's short for Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode. It's one of two types of OLED panel, the other being PMOLED (Passive Matrix OLED). All modern phone displays are AMOLED, although samsung like to bundle everything including the touch sensors in to to one layer and call it AMOLED. The underlying oled tech is the same however. Don't know if the mate 20x has a single layer panel. Doesnt make much difference tbh.

Hmm the A70 objectively isn't as sharp as the panels used on the S/Note series. It also doesnt support HDR or wide colour gamut (DCI-P3). I honestly don't think they are that far off though.
Battery life of the A70 certainly impresses me - I regularly get 7 hours plus OST. Doesnt mean that couldn't be improved upon of course but it's far from terrible. Much better than what I ever saw from my old S8.

Heres another site comparing the 2 phones that state the a70 has super amoled and the mate 20x has amoled. It also states that both phones are HDR:
http://phonesdata.com/en/compare/5742/5451/
The A70 doesnt support HDR10 or Dolby vision or anything like and doesnt have a HDR compatible screen. Netflix hides its HDR content, youtube doesnt give you the option to choose a HDR stream etc.
That website doesnt mention HDR at all under the screen section. Notice it mentions both HDR10 and the DCI-P3 wide colour gamut for the mate 20x but not the A70? That's because the A70 doesnt support them.
It totally depends on your taste of phone, I don't like to waste more than 250 euro on a phone since I break one once a year (because I'm clumsy when I'm drunk).
I bought my samsung a70 for 240 euro by my local carrier (without a loan or an subscription) if I look online for the mate 20x it cost around 900 euro which is way to much for a phone for me since I only use it for whatsapp, discord some browsing and watching a movie in the train.
You should check these marks if u want to buy that phone:
- Do i want to look cool with a 900 euro phone from huaweii or a cool samsung phone
- Do I want super deluxe photo's or decent photo's
- Do I want to watch super crisp netflix movies on my phone or do I want to watch movies just a little bit crisp and cropped to fit for full screen
- Do I want a bigger screen or do I want a phone that just fits in your pocket
- Do I want to pay 3 times the price for a phone or just a small price for a perfectly fine phone
I would recommend if u have the money the huawei mate 20x but if u don't just go with the samsung one and go to a movie or smthg with a nice girl with the money you spared

Are you blind? I posted a link posting that it does have hdr. Youre not looking in the right place.
