hi guys - so i tried to install the revolution rom on my recently unlocked m9 and it'd only boot to the bootloader or download.
i found some threads back from 2012 that said twrp wouldn't install the rev rom, but suspect it's out of date - it seemed to work fine.
is there some magic here? i tried to flash my firmware to the version matching the rom (3.35.401.12) and got a code 10 failure in adb. my current firmware is 3.10.605.7. doesn't flashing the rom update the firmware too? or do i need to successfully flash the rom prior?
should i use a different recovery? twrp launched the rev aroma installer and all seemed to go perfectly smoothly... no problems came up until reboot brought me right back to bootloader.
the aroma install says it might boot loop a couple times, but i booted to bootloader 5+ times before giving up and going back to a deodexed stock vzw rom.
any help is greatly appreciated - i'm hoping to get up to marshmallow before calling it good enough and moving on.
Flashing the rom doesnt update the firmware. S-on makes sure of that.
You must be on the base firmware for the rom to take. You need the vzw marshmallow ota update before you can flash a marshmallow based rom.

Hi,
So I have a GSM HTC One M8 that is rooted and running a custom rom and recovery.
Due to the 4.4.3 update, I need to update my firmware. From what I have read in the forums, I first had to go back to the stock rom and recovery. Which I did. The nandroid back up process went fine, but the stock recovery wouldn't load up for me. And also, the stock rom is already at the latest 4.4.3!
When I tried to go to settings and check for updates, it says that I already have the latest version installed....
Few questions.
1. Do I need a stock recovery to be able to get the OTA update?
2. Is this the only way to update my firmware?
BTW, my device is S-ON and Unlocked.
Hello!
I have a M8 **Dual Sim** variant (in Switzerland). At the time of purchase, only stock KitKat was available so I unlocked the bootloader, TWRPd and rooted and did what I needed.
Now I have a Lollipop upgrade available but it won't apply (downloads but sig check fails), presumably due to having unlocked the bootloader. I tried flashing (what I think is the original) stock recovery, relocking the bootloader but no good.
I also tried the stock KitKat RUU but that also fails to apply.
I would like to get the Lollipop upgrade *somehow*... should be possible but I didn't quite manage it yet. Please can someone advise?
Thanks.
After some hours, I solved this. Posting here for the benefit of others...
I found a DUGL-specific TWRP backup which I placed on the sdcard and attemped to restore from. It wasn't having it so then I found a dual-sim (DUGL) specific ROM with an older OS version (https://basketbuild.com/uploads/dev.../m8dugl_3.33.401.6_stock_rooted_odex_cptb.zip) so flashed the latest TWRP recovery, then this ROM. Then the OTA worked.
Finally a Lollipop build on HTC M8 Dual Sim!
Dear Bonstio
Thank you so much for your follow-up post.
Let me explain my story:
I have a Dual Sim HTC One M8.
It was rooted and running lollipop after an OTA update a couple of months ago. Bootloader was Unlocked and was S-ON.
Recently - i got the OTA Update that corrects stagefright. I took the update and installed it. I had the stock recovery installed in order to get and install OTA Updates.
For some reason, when i restarted after the OTA update - the phone was stuck on the HTC Splash screen. This went on for 5 to 6 hours.
I tried factory data reset, i tried TWRP as the recovery - but i was unable to get the phone back to boot into the OS.
I found a TWRP Backup online and installed that via TWRP. That brought me back to the stock Kitkat 4.4.1.
I then restored the stock recovery.
Looked for an OTA Update - found one for OTA_M8_DUGL_K444_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_3.33.401.6-1.45.401.12_R_release_398692-1.zip .
Tried to apply the OTA update with stock recovery installed - the update would not install.
After many days of trying different way to install the OTA update - i gave up and settled with the the fact that i will never get Lollipop and i would be stuck on 4.4.1 forever. I tried several RUUs, stock recoveries, Zip files for TWRP, etc.
I then did a search and stumbled upon your post. I clicked on the link you have provided and installed the stock ROM as per the instructions listed here: http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-...tc-one-for-completely-new-experience-0153231/
I now needed S-OFF to install this "New ROM".
I downloaded Sunshine S-OFF - paid the $25 and got S-OFF. I knew this had to be done before installing custom Roms.
Once i was S-OFF - i followed the instructions on the link above to install the file you have mentioned in your post. - it booted to an updated version of Kitkat - 4.4.4 .
From there - i looked for an OTA update - downloaded it. Chose "install later".
Went to the download folder and copied the update to my PC (just incase).
Then i installed the stock recovery 4.30.401.15_ds_recovery.img and rebooted. Once in the OS - i chose install update - the OTA update rebooted my phone and installed Lollipop on it.
So a BIG THANK YOU to you for posting your solution - it really helped me get back to Lollipop.
Hello guys,
following situation:
Long time I had a 4.4.something Rom installed. Before I flashed a custom Lollipop rom, I followed the advice to just go back to stock and let it update to Lollipop so that the firmware will be updated accordingly and I won't run into problems when flashing a Lollipop Custom Rom. Everything worked fine. Now I had to send my phone to HTC for display repair and just to make sure they won't nag about the custom Rom I reflashed some older stock rom via TWRP backup I found here, I think it was a 4.0 or so. The question is, does this also affect my phones firmware or is it still on the current newest level? So when I get it back, would I need to update to stock Lollipop again before flashing a custom rom or can I go for it straight away?

It won't affect your firmware.
Okay thanks, so Firmware should still be up to date and I can flash a Lollipop Custom Rom. I don't know what they do at HTC repair, if they only reset it or if they also update it, well I'll see.
Hello,
i have been un-rooted my HTCone M8 since 6 months and i flashed the lollipop 5.1 downloaded from one of your forum based on advice from an expert, and currently it gives me notification about a software update: 4.19.118.3 (128.18 MB), after the download finished, i restarted the phone, at this point the phone took me to the flash screen TWRP and warm me that it cannot flash the updates.
please can anyone help me to solve this issue, because i stopped the update notification but the phone still continue warming that.
thank you,
OTA can't be installed with TWRP .. it needs 4.19.118.2 stock recovery.img and pure non-rooted 4.19.118.2 ROM then you can OTA to 4.19.118.3
You can get the stock recovery and how-to here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Hi,
You must first flash stock recovery. OTA updates can not be flashed with custom recoveries.
Hi All,
Iv'e never posted here before, but I'm having issues updating to a newer version of TWRP and updating to the latest version of the ViperOne Rom.
I am currently using TWRP v2.8.7.0. I attempted to flash the latest version 3.0.2.0, but the recovery fails to load once I have flashed it. If i flash back to the older version the recovery works straight away.
The reason I am trying to install the newest TWRP is because newer ViperOne Roms don't seem to work when flashed. I am currently using ViperOneM9 V3.5.0. None of the later versions are working for me. Once I flash the newer Roms, the handset keeps booting back to the bootloader.
Does anyone have any idea why these problems are happening? I have no idea what to try next.
Thanks

In one word, u must upgrade to a Marshmallow firmware, because latest versions are compatible only with Marshmallow (Android 6).
