I rooted and s-off my m8 a year and 8 months ago. I believe
I have twrp recovery. Basically I need at least 5.0 android version
(4.4.2 right now) and don't know exactly the right process
to follow. Any help and direction to the right thread would help
so much. Thanks in advance.

Two options...
1. Download and install a custom 5.0 Rom
2. Return to all stock, unrooted, and stock recover and then take the OTA to update to 5.0, then re-root and install twrp.

Just heard that there is a lollipop Update I have the developers edition I got the phone today and I was wondering if I should root and install twrp asap? To prevent automatic updating? I haven't tinkered with roms rooting and twrp in 2 years so I am a little confused. If someone could she'd some light on what to follow I would appreciate it.
I saw droid life's root method should I follow that?

You will not receive an update of any sorts from Samsung or Verizon for your Developer Edition Note 4. Samsung has never updated their Developer Edition devices...never. You most likely will not even receive a notification on your phone that there is an update available. For us Developer Edition users to update to Lollipop we're going to have to wait for a developer to take the factory image (retail firmware) and modify it so that it is safe to flash on a Developer Device without locking the bootloader. The developer will provide this update to Lollipop by means of a ROM which we can flash via TWRP.
WARNING: When the retail versions of the Note 4 does get an update to Lollipop you will start to see threads announcing that factory firmware is available. Do not flash factory firmware on your device unless the OP specifically says it has been modified for the Developer Edition and will not lock your bootloader.
Thanks for clarifying

Thanks for explaining that. I also wanted to know if the cf auto root method is still ok to use from droid life link for dev edition note 4? Thanks again for your time.
You're welcome. My understanding is that it is, but I don't want to guarantee it. I personally recommend using ODIN to install TWRP (custom recovery) and then flashing SuperSU for root. There is a thread with a step by step in Android Development section in this forum.

+1 on this...I wouldn't mess with any methods other than the tried and true process listed in the dev section.

First of all, apologies for such a question.
Im lost. Its been a long time since i browsed through this forum. I have my at&t m8 running slimkat 4.4.4 and twrp 2.8.1.0. Cant seem to update twrp, stuck on entering recovery. Right now i would like to update to lollipop but i dont knw where to start. Can someone please pin point me the procedures. What i need to do prior. Thanks in advance.
Update: I followed the guide to upgrade via fastboot. Successfully installed but every time I install a lollipop Rom I don't have signal. The only way I get signal back is if I revert with a nandroid backup sense. Under software info in settings my imei doesn't show up
Any help would be appreciated

Have you checked the at&t subforum here for the M8, did you check the stock backup and firmware thread in the general section ?
Get a official stock backup, preferably a lower based one than your software is numbered now and update via official HTC updates again.

I don't think AT&T firmware will ever allow you to install lollipop. Your S-off convert your phone to Developer edition and you can update all the way to 4.16.1540.8

I will test out the developer edition once everything else I can try fails. I managed to install lollipop but I just don't have any signal and it seems simcard is not detected. I'm thinking I probably skipped a firmware. So I'll revert back to the oldest firmware on Att and update via ota ...if that fails I will go the developer route. Then I'll let u know. Thanks

Hey there. Sorry for creating such a stupid thread but, unfortunately, I am a complete newbie in modding android.
I have s-off and rooted my m8 using sunshine method. Right now, when I wanted to update to lollipop, a TWPR turns on and I got no bloody idea what to do.
Logic tells me that I have to find a new ver of Lollipop and install it through the TWPR but I got no idea how to find it/install it.
My android version is 4.4.4
Software version 3.28.401.9
HTC SDK API 6.25
Compilation 3.2.8.401.9 CL389833
My phone is not branded.
Id really like to be told what and how to update my phone.
Thanks in advance.

Ill be really thankful.

You need to replace twrp with the correct stock recovery for your phone. Check in your settings/about/software information/software number . This is the version number you need to know when you download the stock recovery. There is a thread in the "general" section that has all the stock recoveries. Flash the stock recovery (again, find the thread that tells you how to) then unroot the phone using superSU from within the app . Reboot and then take the ota update. This should then update you to lollipop. Then, if you want to, you will have to flash custom recovery and re-root.
Is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694994 a good one?
I am really lost, lol.
Hello all,
I have searched and searched, and I can't find a clear answer as to what I need to do. I converted my retail verizon note 4 a few months ago as soon as a permanent root method was discovered.
here's what i'm on right now.
5.1.1
N910VVRU2BPA1
TWRP 3.0.2
I'm trying to install this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/development/rom-paulpizz-rom-t3360469
the instructions say
Make sure your rooted and have a custom recovery installed on VRU2CPD1 Firmware --> GO HERE For upgrade Instructions --> Thanks @hsbadr
I clicked on the link and the instructions seem to be for rooting and installing a recovery for the first time... I'm already rooted though.
Can't I just install a new firmware and ROM through TWRP?
Thanks!

This process will upgrade your boot loader. Follow the instructions, it is required for most MM ROMs.

Hi everyone, first time posting here.
I've recently purchased a HTC 10 from a friend. I'm looking to upgrade it to android version 7
The phone has TWRP recovery but no back up of a stock untouched ROM, ive tried looking for a stock UK H3G ROM (H3G_001) but I've been unable to find 1.
Could someone give me a little help on how to update my phone, possibly an idiot proof step by step guide. i just want the latest version available for my phone.
Thanks
Try this thread from a few weeks ago:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/stock-rom-required-htc-10-cid-h3g001-t3627726
Obviously you'd need a stock backup that matches the version you currently have.

So, if your system is rooted or modified in any way, you'll need to flash a stock system backup, matching the firmware version you currently have. Then flash stock recovery, and you'd be able to take the OTA.
If your system is already untouched, you would just need to flash the stock recovery, again matching your firmware version, and then take the OTA. There is a recovery for 6.0.1 in that link, but I'm not sure if it's for your firmware version. You could try to flash it and see if the OTA works.
Thinking about it more, if you're able to download the ota I think the best thing to do is to flash the OTA using twrp manually. See instructions in the faq located in the twrp thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ht...ery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3358139/post66347165
If you follow the instructions, you should be able to take the OTA including firmware, and not have to worry about restoring anything stock first.
