THIS IS AN ULTIMATE SOLUTION FOR ROOTING COOLPAD DAZEN 1. IT WILL PROPERLY ROOT YOUR DEVICE WITH SuperSU AND THERE WILL BE NO ROOT TEXT ON THE BOOT SCREEN IF YOU REMOVE IT JUST ONCE.
This is permanent ROOT, means it will no longer be lost even after reboot.
DISCLAIMER: I or anyone else in the forum will not be held responsible for anything that may happen to you or your device or any type of data loss. Proceed at your risk.
This will work with Stock Rom and CoolUI Rom.
NOTE: If u r already rooted with kingroot plz unroot completely before going further.
OK.. let's do it.
What you need?
TWRP/CWM installed. get my edited TWRP from HERE.
Coolpad Dazen 1
Internet connection to download the attachment.
HOW TO?
You don't need to do much, I have already done everything for you. Just download the attachment below and FLASH IT THRU TWRP/CWM.
Thats it.
NOTE: If u r rooting ur phone for the first time u don't need to do the steps below.
OK.. Now let's remove that root text from boot screen. I have already posted a guide on How to remove root text from boot screen of Coolpad Dazen 1 HERE. but that required flashing STOCK ROM which obviously removes all data stored in the phone.
This time NO need to Flash stock ROM.
Video tutorial for flashing TWRP/CWM

[IMPORTANT]BEWARE: Some people have bricked their device trying to do it in emulator. I don't know why did this happen but I have tried this many times and it worked every time.
STEPS:
#1. Enable USB debugging.
#2. Connect your phone to pc, open a command window in your adb folder.
#3. Type these commands. and allow super user permission from your phone when prompted.
Code:
adb shell
adb su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/tmp/yl_params.orig bs=4096 count=256
dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/yl_params.orig bs=1 count=268 seek=9232 conv=notrunc
dd if=/tmp/yl_params.orig of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 bs=4096 count=256
You can also do this in terminal emulator.
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/tmp/yl_params.orig bs=4096 count=256
dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/yl_params.orig bs=1 count=268 seek=9232 conv=notrunc
dd if=/tmp/yl_params.orig of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 bs=4096 count=256
On demand video for doing this on Phone. I saved the commands in a text file and did copy paste.
That's it you've rooted your device with SuperSU and removed root text from boot screen that won't come again.

Press and hold power and volume+ and volume- buttons together for few seconds. and then use volume - button to navigate to option in which you can see "data" written with some chinese texts(its obivious i cant read chinese) and press poer button to select it and again press power button to confirm. Repeat same process for cache option and reboot. I tried this and it worked for me. My software version was 4.4.4.152 hope it works for you too.

Infos
Why Should I root my phone?
Read Here
What can I do with recovery?
With recovery you can principally flash cooked roms, but also other things like make nandroid backups (Internal memory backups), partition your sdcard, fix problems etc...
If you want root there are 2 methods:
First Method
Is very simple, just download and install InstantRoot.apk (attached)
To install this from sdcard you need a file explorer like ASTRO
After the install a notify that says root access gained should appear, if not try second method
Second Method
This will install also recovery
1. Enable Debug USB from Settings->Applications
2. Download flashrec and install it with file manager like ASTRO
3. Download Amon_RA's recovery and put it in your sdcard
4. Run flashrec and tap Backup Recovery
5. Tap in the textbox and write this path:
Code:
/sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-vx.x.x.img
At moment of writing last version is 1.5.2, so the path should be
Code:
/sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2.img
6. Tap Download then flash recoery
7. If you get an error retry from step 3, else continue
8. Turn off your phone and reboot it keeping pressed Home button, recovery should start
9. Connect your phone via usb
10. Download Android SDK and extract all in the same folder
11. Download this and extract it in your sdk/tools folder
12. Open cmd (if you are on windows, if you are on a mac or on linux open terminal) and move to sdk/tools folder using this command
Code:
cd path
13. Give this commands in order
On windows:
Code:
adb shell mount /system
adb push su /system/bin/
adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/
adb shell umount /system
adb shell reboot
On linux/mac
Code:
./adb shell mount /system
./adb push su /system/bin/
./adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
./adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/
./adb shell umount /system
./adb shell reboot
14. Now you have root access on your phone
If you want recovery:
Just follow root's second method to the step 7
Flashing Custom roms using recovery:
Custom roms are in Zip format, to flash it is really easy once you have recovery.
Once downloaded a rom put it in your sdcard root, then reboot into recovery (Keep home button pressed while turning on your phone)
Now make a wipe going to Wipe->Wipe data, then come back to main menu and go to Flash zip from sd card, select your zip and you're done
Thanks for the guide How does Nandroid backup fit into this?
maybe you need to tell how to downgrade(or a link to a guide )
nice guide, only i have already rooted my phone(2 months ago or something xD)
@Culturelol
nandroid backup is recommeded when you install a new rom, so you can always back to your original/past rom
So i root with this guide, then nandroid and then i can flash the new rom?
One more small question Is there anything special i should know about flashing the radio?

No, only that you can't flash a GSM radio on a CDMA phone and back, if you do this you'll brick your phone

1-Do you need to follow step 8-12 to get root and flash rom`s or is the android sdk and superuser only if you want to develope yourself?
2- If ypu do this and after want back to stock rom . As far as i`ve read it`s as easy as just flashing from HTC website and you`re back ? Won`t recovery still be left on your phone?
Thanks

1. Steps from 8 to 12 are only to get root access on stock rom, if you want to change rom you don't need to make those steps
2. To get back to stock rom just flash official update, as far as i know recovery will be deleted

Thanks for the guide.
Was being anal and following the guide to the letter (not wanting a brick!) and it just rebooted to stock recovery
Code:
4. Run flashrec and tap Backup Recovery
5. Tap in the textbox and write this path: /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2.img
6. If you get an error retry from step 3, else continue

Sorry silly question
Please could someone tell me, if using the first method the InstantRoot.apk. Will this wipe the current ROM/data/apps etc from the phone or will it just enable Root privilages and leave everything else the same?
Many thanks
Jeremy
It just roots your phone and leaves everything in tact, just did it now.
The guide is not clear on how to flash the rom though. Because it says "If you want recovery" I don't want recovery I just want to flash. I have root now what's next? In simple steps, no recovery required just want CKDroid.

Hello everyone!
Here's another release thread for y'all!
What is this?
This is a flashable ClockworkMod recovery for the Optimus G Pro.
Special thanks to @djrbliss
You can safely flash this to your phone's recovery and enjoy modding bliss!
How do I use this, and where do I get it?
Good question!
There are two ways to use the files provided here.
To Flash to Recovery:
Download this file to somewhere on your computer https://github.com/djrbliss/loki/raw/master/bin/loki_flash
Download this file http://downloads.codefi.re/thecubed/lgoptimusg_pro/gkatt/recovery/e98010g/gkatt-cwm-e98010g.lok
Run the following:
Code:
adb push loki_flash /data/local/tmp
adb push gkatt-cwm-e98010g.lok /data/local/tmp
abd shell
su
cd /data/local/tmp
chmod 755 loki_flash
./loki_flash recovery gkatt-cwm-e98010g.lok
To boot
Download this file: http://downloads.codefi.re/thecubed/lgoptimusg_pro/gkatt/recovery/e98010g/gkatt-cwm-e98010g.img
Use fastboot boot to boot it
DO NOT FLASH THE .IMG FILE TO YOUR PHONE. It is only meant for fastboot booting.
Where can I find the source you used to build this?
All on my github!
http://github.com/thecubed/
Or, follow my guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43514195
What can I do with this?
Right now, the possibilities are unlimited. Once a security-lax boot.img is released, we can flash that through recovery and let the modding commence.
Please remember though, modding /system with the stock boot.img will result in a security error!
What works, and what doesnt?
I have so far tested making backup images, however I haven't tested restoring them.
I have also not tested external SD cards, since I don't have one with me at work.
Can you show me a video?
Why yes I can!
As usual, please pardon the crappy camera work.
I <3 you so much, how do I show my love?
You are so kind
I most definitely do not expect donations of any kind, however they are appreciated a lot.
I purchased this phone off-contract just to get it unlocked, if you are a kind soul and would like to send me a token of your appreciation I would love you forever.
XDA has a neat "Donate to me" button that should be on the left side of this page under my name. Donations go to purchasing new hardware to work on and other neat stuff, so they're always appreciated.
Special Thanks!

Yes you can, just do the following:
Code:
adb push gkatt-cwm-e98010g.lok /data/local/tmp
adb shell
su
dd if=/data/local/tmp/gkatt-cwm-e98010g.lok of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
Getting into recovery is as simple as "adb reboot recovery" or holding the proper volume keys.
I just recommend using Dan's excellent loki_flash utility since it checks to make sure you have the right bootloader in place already.
fastboot info
Would be nice to have more info on how to use fastboot with the .img file. I tried all I know with no results. Thanks!

Not sure what you're asking. To flash any .img file without any modifications requires our bootloader to be unlocked. What's going on here is everything needs to be "Loki'ed" so our phones are able to flash unsigned code through a custom recovery, bypassing our locked bootloader.
Fastboot is a way of testing unsigned code without having to necessarily flash it to any partitions.
Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm definitely not a developer. I just read a lot lol

If I have the old ClockworkMod, can I still do this or do I have to get rid of it somehow?
Are there any special precautions someone should take if they have this recovery already flashed to our phones?
Flashing with the latest "loki_flash" from dan's repos is segfaulting here and I'm too lazy to run it in gdb. The recovery works just fine with dd after zeroing the recovery partition out. Thanks mucho :good:

another issue:
I am using loki_patch v1.5 to patch my custom build kernel
then I flash this Loki'ed kernel to my E988 (by CWM recovery) and it keep re-boot loop

which I believe if boot image LOKI'ed should be good
PS: I fixed this by re-flash the good boot image by CWM
Here is the output of the patching msg
[email protected]:/usr/android# ./loki_patch-linux-x86_64 boot aboot.img myboot.img myboot.lok

You can update by grabbing the recovery IMG file from their site and use android terminal emulator to install it!
su
dd if=/sdcard/openrecovery-twrp-hercules-2.1.8.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 <- (this is for Hercules obviously)
And the "openrecovery..." Is the one you downloaded and place it in the root of sdcard make sure it's word for word and you should be good to go!

No not quite, if you're using the phone that's appropriate for the forum you just copy and paste
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/openrecovery-twrp-hercules-2.1.8.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22
And openrecovery-twrp-hercules-2.1.8.IMG with whatever your name of the IMG file is, so if it's openrecovery-twrp-hercules-2.6.1.0.img then that would replace it. The block mmcblk0p22 does not get changed or else your device will brick!
So to clarify:
The
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/openrecovery-twrp-hercules-2.1.8.img
is the path to where the img file for TWRP is. If you're downloading 2.6.1.0, and move the img file to the root of your SDcard, then it might be something like
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.1.img
Now the
Code:
of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22
is where the img is going to be written to. From what I see, the last bit
Code:
mmcblk0p22
varies on the device and where the recovery installs. It's a different location for the Galaxy S4 compared to the T989 (also known as hercules).
Say if you were to rename the download to something easy to type out, like just recovery.img and placed in the root of the sdcard, then it would look like
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22
Then you should be able to boot into recovery and it should be updated!
If something goes wrong, your device will brick, so make sure you download the right file. I flashed the .tar by accident on a friends phone, but Odin can easily fix it by flashing it with that.
Sorry for the short responses, I was on my phone when I was replying!
Could someone run
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/unbrick.img bs=512 count=524288
and upload it? Flashing unbrick in a 'raw' fashion will allow you to hard brick most Qualcomm devices. Unfortunately I lost my backup and I can't boot my device. This file will allow me to recover. Thanks!
I can
Will it safe to run and guide me how to run it ??? Dont know where it goes............ I also have my stock recovery file saved by flashify https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3i0YJU831QXTHctYWphX2Y0aE0/view?usp=sharing

I messed up, here's the correct command
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/unbrick.img bs=512 count=524288
Thank you very much!
Still not found .... run the command without error ... dont know where required file goes ... checked the root of both external and internal sd...

Make sure you're running as root, from adb shell or terminal emulator. Try this one instead
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/storage/extSdCard/unbrick.img bs=512 count=31250
That command should have created 'unbrick.img' on your external SD card. I am extremely thankful for you doing this. My device is bricked and sitting in QHSUSB_BULK mode. You may want to save this file in case you ever need it! Thanks again, it is very much appreciated!
It is my pleasure. this forum helped me many times m trying to return something. That command completed successfully i am uploading it ?

Q&A for How to Root KVT49L.D85110r and Install TWRP. My experience
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.

If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.

I responded in the main thread
ls /temp on su command # , it is just to confirm that recovery.img image and fakesu files were pushed to the temp folder
. You should check that both are there and continue to step 13
can you tell me what you mean by push through recovery im a nube and i dont know how to do that causethat same command isnt working for me
The TWRP recovery is pushed into your device /temp folder on step 9 and it is installed in your device with the comands in step 13.

So, I apparently already had TWRP installed as the recovery somehow of this device, so I just had to flash the SU zip from it and all is good. Thanks!

Did you do the ls/temp on su # command? It will give you all files on the /temp folder. If you do not see the twrp recovery.img there.. it means that the recovery.img was not pushed into the /temp folder on step 8.
Another question? What do you mean about that you want you root back? Do you have root before? Do you a custom recovery before?IS IT TWRP? If so ...it is easy...just move the updatesupersu2.40.zip file to you sdcard and install it in your custom recovery

Worked for me!!
Glad I stumbled on this thread. It worked for me. I did have to move the recovery.img twice (it didn't move the first time). But I was able to check that it was not there with the ls. Thanks for this tutorial! Appreciated.
You all did it the hard and complicated way. You should have just followed the instructions in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2961261
It how I updated both my phone and my wife's phone when the update came out last month and it took less than a minute
Thanks
I'm glad I found a way for this to work

This thread is not about to install the R update. It is to root it and to install twrp custom recovery

Wrong. If you read, it has everything needed to update to to the R update and root it. This is the exact sane thread I used to update both my phone and my wife's phone.
