Z5P Overheating - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody here becoming more annoyed with the recurring overheating with their phones? I have the Chrome Z5P and I'm getting all these random overheating all of a sudden. I'm not even using the camera; just doing some reading at apps like Flipboard or XDA. I love Xperia but I'm becoming really annoyed by these overheating issues. Any tips or advice you can give me will be much appreciated.

Same device for me but no overheating
Inviato dal mio E6853 utilizzando Tapatalk

Well had the Z,ZQ,Z1,Z2,Z3 and now the Z5P for the first time i think sony made finally a great job !
never had an issue o heating and here in Rio its around 35C to 40C !

I had it 1st and then realised i had loads of apps open whilst trying to shoout 4k . Havent had it since making sure unused apps are closed.

It is freakin' -35 here in Canada and I'm still getting this random overheating. I wonder what's wrong with my phone.

Same her, random overheating. I'm hoping the M firmware fixes it.

Don't feel bad I'm here in Chicago it was a high of about 14° and my phone felt like a little hand warmer! I work outside from time to time, I was reading a few articles and talking on it & it got toasty as usual! I did start to feel like I've been a victim of a failed processor. Also wondering about my next device already so soon and questioning it being another Xperia... I guess it could be worse, my company phone is a iphone, and during intense heat days in the summer it gives a msg saying "needs to cool down before use" however in today's extreme cold I got the same msg. Lol The phone was useless until placing near a car vent! I guess as long as our Z5P isn't melting internally, I'll just accept my little chrome box of plutonium filled nuclear reactor!

[Q] 2 annoying problems with my HOX

Hi all,
I've an iphone 4s and a one x and I've been trying to decide which to keep. Everything was looking rosy for the HOX until the latest of the 1.29 updates was received.
My battery life was pretty exceptional before, I was getting to the end of the day with often 50% or more battery. Since the update the phone will run fine for a while, maybe half a day and then suddenly android OS will start munching the battery. It accounts for 50% of battery use and you could feel it was really hot. All apps are closed and the majority of syncing has been disabled. Anyone know why the latest sw would trigger this problem?
Other problem I have is being discussed on another thread, dropping signal and then not picking back up unless i refresh the network.
It's a real shame as I'd really warmed to the phone, why haven't they tested everything properly before release as they've ruined a quality product. I've been back in the 4s for the last week and unless anyone has any ideas, an as new one x is up for sale.
I can confirm great standby time though, with just wifi connected, receiving emails and the odd look at the lovely screen it is on 4 days and 48 mins on a single charge with 34% battery remaining
could be a rough app.
I've uninstalled most the apps and really can't be bothered to reset the phone and set it up again.
I'll stick with the iPhone, HTC is going on ebay this evening. So close but no cigar

not to sound bad, but really stick to iOS and don't try again
i can always conclude its an impossibility for iUsers to make the switch
unless you are willing to get your hands dirty, Android will never replace your iOS
battery drain is clearly related to some app or widget going rogue, you can try to track it in manage apps and checking running apps and check your accounts settings if something is refreshing often
This is not a problem with HOX its a problem with your usage of HOX
until the next iPhone is released the One X rules it all
I don't mind a certain amount of tweaking to get something working and to be honest the one x was only a stop gap to keep me interested before the iPhone 5 is released so I would of ended back at IOS.
Its a shame as I love the feel of the one x and the size of the screen (although slightly too big to use safely one handed) is a masterpiece. I honestly would have kept it until October if it could find a signal properly and didn't have OS bugs. I believe the drain to be related to the latest update as it had been perfect on 1.28 and the first 1.29 and have changed nothing on it since the update and the drain started straight away. I mostly only use the popular apps and have uninstalled the majority and it hasn't solved the issue.
It's almost like the old windows thing of once it gets slow and buggy, the only fix it to restore back to factory settings.
Too bad i don't like iphone ( had 2) otherwise i would change it too.
Had Htc hero,Lg optimus 2x,Samsung galaxy s2 and now HOX.
Sold SGS2 thinking that HOX would be better but is not, at least for now.
Having problems with network too and it is annoying (call quality is ****)
Waiting for update from vodafone too see if gets better.
I came from an iphone, and its quite a shock coming to Android from it! Luckily i have the Transformer android tablet which prepeared me for it.
One thing i have noticed and what you dont want to do is that factory resets fix so many issues on Android. i always do one now after updates or wheneve its slow, yes its a pain in the backside (even cold booting fixes issues too before jumping in with the big reset)
If you're willing to spend a little extra time to work out the few little problems, the HOX will be a much better investment than the iPhone. I'd suggest you install some battery stats monitoring app to work out exactly what it is that's draining your phone.
Well I've done a reset on it. Luckily the music and vids etc have been kept which saves a little hassle. Just annoying getting it set back up the way I had it before.
I'm gonna give it one more go tomorrow and see how I get on. I've kind of lost the love I had for it now and see it as a bit of a pain but we'll see how I get on.
Why oh why is the speaker so quiet and on the back, can't be hard to match the 4s in this respect can it??
Any idea when this signal problem is going to be fixed?
Cheers,
Ryan

At&t Samsung Galaxy S3 Overheat, Wi-Fi, and Battery Issues

I've noticed a few issues with my device.
1. Overheating
-The device overheats when I surf the web (using 3G/4G antenna), run graphic intense applications, or play music for prolonged periods. Also, when I have the charger plugged while using it, the device becomes Extremely HOT.
2. Wi-Fi
-The WiFi connection keeps cutting off when I am well within my WiFi range. During the WiFi tests, I have the device sitting next to other smartphones and the GS3 drops the connection once or twice at least.
3. Battery
-I unplug the device from the charger at 8:00am (at 100% charge), and plug it back onto the charger again at 6:00pm (at 12-15% charge).
I am not a heavy user, but I do check Facebook, Emails, Google Chat, 1 or 2 YouTube (HD) videos, and 4-8 Text Messages per day.
I would consider myself to be between a light - moderate User.
Are you experiencing any of these issues as well?
(I sent an email to Samsung's Office of the President in New Jersey 2 days ago. Yesterday, I received a call from a very friendly and helpful gentleman from Samsung. Today I got a call from my wife, telling me that a brand new Samsung Galaxy S3 arrived to my door.)
If you need the email address for Samsung's Office of the President, please don't hesitate to ask. I will check back later. Thanks.
Yes to battery and overheating. Try my ROM and turn on Power saving - both issues are gone.
WiFi helped by rebooting router.

I'm having similar issues. Strange battery life. Sometimes it seems ok but other times it drains like crazy for no good reason. Wifi sometimes goes into a disconnect/reconnect cycle.
And yes, I'd love to have that email address. Polite and well written emails to the right places can often work wonders. Thanks!
I too would love that contact information. I got mine just last week after using a Captivate for two years, Gets so hot at times i take it out of my pocket because it's uncomfortable! With a 2100 mAH battery I would have expected better battery life, which was part of the reason I got this device!
i would appreciate that email address. thx will be in order.
if i could get that email as well i would be very grateful. my phone seems laggy at times and everytime i plug it into the charger about 5-10 mins later a message pops up saying charging paused phone battery temp to high and it drives me crazy because i have to leave my phone off the charger and im afraid that my phone might die and alarm wont go off in the morning .
Samsung Office of the President Email Address
Hey Guys,
Word of advice before you send Samsung an email. Make sure you don't threaten or use profanity. I wrote a simple yet direct email requesting assistance. I myself would not respond to an email that includes threats or profanity... Good Luck !

hrmm....well, looks like you got better customer service than I did. I got an email back which basically said if it's broken I can either send it to them for an evaluation or if it's within the return period I can try to take it back. They didn't seem interested in my mentioning that the problems I'm having are being widely reported by a lot of people.

Hey,
I'm sorry to hear that they handled your issue in that manner. I wonder if the rest of the members in here received the same result.
Did anyone else contact Samsung? Would you please post your results here. Thanks

BTW, I did reply to them again and asked them to please look into it further. They reiterated what they told me earlier. Basically, it's not a known issue, they've forwarded the info I gave them to someone else but they can't say whether it will ever be fixed or even researched.
I had also asked them if they could provide me with a contact at ATT who deals with Samsung tech issues and they declined to provide me with any such info. They said if I wanted to I could contact my local service provider and if I was within my exchange period I should talk to them about exchanging the phone.
Basically, they don't seem to have a clue and didn't seem too interested in getting a clue. As someone who works in IT, I found this a little disappointing.

I'm assuming what is happening here is Samsung is pulling the Apple stunt with the (iPhone 4)antenna issue. They will try to deny it at first, then once it has become public, they will acknowledge that there is a known issue and will provide a solution. Hopefully, they don't provide us with fireproof gloves as a complimentary gift.

Yeah, I had hoped Samsung would be different than Apple but they're probably the same. If there's a problem, deny, deny, and deny until forced to admit it by firing squad. And then only admit it grudgingly and make up all sorts of excuses.
It's a nice phone but I guess Samsung as a company sucks just as bad as Apple and doesn't really give a flying frig about their customers or about acknowledging and resolving defects and problems as long as they are selling enough product to turn a profit.
OK this sucks.
Years ago, I got the Iphone 4 and you had to put a cover on it because of the antenna issue.
I get the S3 and to protect it, i get a cover and within no time, after putting it on the phone, the phone overheats, locks up, lags,
If i am charging it, it locks up. I was driving shortly after i put the case on, and it kept making noise but i was driving so i couldnt look at the phone. then once i got home. i noticed it locking up and really warm, bottom right hand corner.
This really sucks as i love the phone but I do know, overheating like this is not good for electronics and will lessen their lifespan.
anyone else having cover issues?
Thinking about buying the SIII
Have you noticed differences between SII and SIII battert autonomy?
The SIII gives more performance but does the battery keeps its durability?
if you have had both phones, what differences have you noticed?
I want to compare the SIII with other phones but not benchmarks but user experiences

Mine gets a little warm when I'm using it with certain apps but never while it's in standby mode. I did also notice that the standby time seems to only drain the battery at about 1% per hour. Sometimes after I've been using it, the battery continues to drain like I'm using the phone when it's in standby. I'm anal about closing/killing apps when not in use too.

Im with Sprint but I am having the same issues as alot of people also. My phone overheats when charging and using and the WiFi signal is absolutely horrible unless I stand right next to the router.
Well it seems my heat issues are normal from what everyone is saying here. Would everyone say this is the hottest phone anyone as ever owned? The closest thing for me is an S2 and that got hit only while gaming. Surfing the Web was fine. This phone feels hot in 5 minutes of surfing on wifi. That just seems crazy.

Really my cousin had that phone and he never complained about the heat. I guess I am just shocked that not one review on YouTube ever mentioned the heat.

Just bought a new galaxy s3 and it's really warm

So i just bought a new galaxy s3 from wind mobile and whenever i use it the bottom part gets really warm. It gets hot even if im just browsing the web on chrome, or going on reddit. Is this normal or should I bring it back to get another one?
that's just the battery getting hot and the radio. Nothing big... usually happens when you start watching porn or really browsing the net..
>_> or maybe I just watch porn on my phone and that's just me.

My first one got really hot too. Got a refurb due to weird camera issues
Second one doesn't seem to get as hot. But I also cannot undervolt like I could with my older one. But I'm pretty satisfied with the new one. Its up to you if you wanna switch. Try under voting before you decide.

there's times when I'll watch netflix for hours and it won't get hot, and times when it'll be sitting in my pocket not doing anything getting hotter than hades. My theory is that it depends on where you are and how much its fighting acquisition of cell towers... but I really don't know (seems to get hot not doing anything in the same general area though, which is why that's my guess).
Gs3 extremely hot.
I have been wanting to make a bit of a rukus about this phone running HOT.
BURNING HOT. My finger becomes sore. NOT COOL to pay all this $$$,&
Burn your fingers. I had written the President of Samsung as a member here had.
They must have had ALLOT of complaints because in 7 minutes I had a reply
to go to my carrier first, see if they can resolve the issue.. Bla bla bla... Same old
Same old... This person who posted had results including a NEW PHONE SHIPPED.
Now-this was more than a couple months ago.
(TMobile) . BTWay, wanted me to Master Reset.
I also have a ''gapps forceclose'' issue. If I have ANYTHING on sync, it Forcecloses
every move made.
ALSO~Was there any validity to the rumor that the set up of the Battery for this particular phone
was incorrect & the reason for all the excess heat?
Thank you as always for your shared knowledge.

noticeably hot

Hello!
I just picked up my M9 from the T-Mobile store an hour ago, and I absolutely love it. My only issue so far is, it gets noticeably hot when doing trivial tasks such as texting... I've read articles which say that this device does indeed get hot sometimes, but it seems a little odd that it would be occurring when there's not much of a load on the phone.... Should I go back to T-Mobile and replace it as defective?
Thanks!

Heating Issues

Hi Guys!.
Is anyone experiencing heating issues when using HTC 10?. My phone gets hot every time I use it. I'm not playing games, I just run apps like twitter, facebook, instagram. I tried to reset my phone to factory settings, but nothing happened, after some time (15-20 minutes) it gets hot again. I'm thinking about getting a replacement (a new one), but i'm not sure if this heat is normal.
I would appreciate any feedback on this topic, thanks!.

Definetly not normal. I have 2 of these phones, one complitely stock, and one rooted and s-off with custom kernel, and neither of them heats up no matter what I do. At highest load they become just a little bit warm. Otherwise, both are running cool. So, exchange it because it's defective

I was thinking that maybe, heating issues, was something normal on HTC phones, because HTC 10 is my first HTC phone, but after reading your comment I realize it's defective, so I'll go for a new one, I have no choice.
