RK3188 Malaysk FW - Bluetooth help needed please - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Hi all
I have today installed the malaysk firmware which includes xposed framework and xposedmtc module
All of the above has been done so I can connect my Defi smart adapter (basically an obd adapter that works in conjunction with my gauges and sensors, as well as drawing info from the obd) (can't post link yet!!!)
I thought this would enable me to connect via bluetooth but I am still struggling.
I have tried updating the search string in xposedmtc to "defi smart adapter" but it still won't connect
It can see the module but when I click connect nothing happens
I have also tried all of the various bluetooth options in factory settings (though not 100% sure what these are) but don't make any difference
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated as I have just sold my dashlinq head unit on the basis I should be able to get this to connect!
If anyone can help on my first root it would be very much appreciated!
Cheers
neil

Do you also have the defi smart adapter? Or just another obd device?

No I have 2 other adapters. With the one working but not every time. With the other I have the same problem with you.

I also encountered the same problem, has root equipment, rk3188 android 4.4.4 carkit, defi smart adapter can be searched, but can not click on the link, has been unable to find reasons

Unfortunately I could not find a way to get it to work with the defi smart meter, gave up and sold the head unit
If anyone else finds a head unit that works with the defi adaptor please let me know!!!

No one knows how to do this in Bluetooth? Should the problem lies in the Bluetooth module

I've had an RK3188 since 2015 and haven't found a solution to the Bluetooth connectivity problems. It's one of the many issues I've had that is making me think I should upgrade to another unit because I want to use a Bluetooth radar detector with my headunit.

The guy that had the unit off me managed to get it working with another Bluetooth obd unit, it was just the defi unit that seemed to have problems for me. However given the money spent on the rest of the defi system, it was the Headunit that had to go. I have pretty much given up looking for a unit that would work now...

Asus-P525 and Pioneer

Hi all,
I've got a Pioneer P70BT headunit in my car, and it has support for bluetooth to use it as a handsfree, however I cannot connect my Asus-P525 to it, as it doesnt detect it as a phone, so doesnt come up when trying to pair it.
Asus has Widcomm bluetooth stack, so I don't know how to tweak the registry and to change the device class from PDA to phone or smartphone.
Has anyone managed it? or have any advice?
Cheers
try to upgrade with the newest ROM, v3.43WWE... maybe it will solve your problem
But how could it help me? Does anyone know how to change bluetooth device class with Broadcomm bl.stack?
You got PM, please check it.
Hy there,
I have got almost the same Problem as A13xiva.
the difference is just, that I am using a P535(and a P75bt headunit) and it isn´t able to connect automatically.
Connecting to the Headunit is just possible, when I search for it with my P535, but the Pioneer isn´t able to find my P535(bluetooth is visible).
Is there anybody who has an Idea how to solve my problems?
Another bluetoothstack oder some reg-hacks?
best regards
Tobi

Hello, you got PM
Hi there,
many thanks to User22 for his PM, but it doesn´t really help me.
I found out, that there is a problem with the cod(class of device), so that my P75bt isn´t able to find my P535. Is there any possibility to change ist in my registry.
I saw a reg Hack for the MS-Bluetoothstack here, but does it work on my Widcomm? I have found the MS-regkey on my device as well, but didn´t find anything in the Widcomm registry entries.
Does anybody know a solution?
Hi, i sent you some more hints.
Hope it helps.

Does anyone have mirrorlink working on their M8? (with aftermarket stereo)

I'm having a SUPER hard time finding good information on this, everything seems conflicted. Does anyone have mirrorlink working on a M8 (preferably unrooted vzw) with a pioneer mirrorlink head unit?
I have the NEX4000. Mirrorlink worked fine with the stockrom and Viper rom but i can't seem to find any other custom rom that will connect via mirriorlink.

Bluetooth Issue's with Garmin Vivosmart

Not sure anyone will be able to help with this appreciate its a long shot, i've bought a Garmin Vivosmart fitness tracker and it connects to the phone via Bluetooth, now it all works mint except if i go out of range with the bluetooth the phone and garmin are supposed to reconnect automatically but it doesn't i have to unpair and then repair which isn't the end of the world but is a pain in the backside, looking on the garmin forums lots of people with M8's saying the same so there seems to be an issue with the way HTC - Garmin bluetooth works, some phones seem to work perfect (as in other android phones) so it doesn't seem a generic android-garmin issue, just wondering if anyone has had the same issue with any other bluetooth equipment and managed to find a cure ?
also if anyone know if custom roms mess about with bluetooth and the way it works, tempted to try an AOSP rom or CM to see if the bluetooth works properly but i do like sense so would prefer to stick with what i got, using Insertcoins Sense 7 rom, might go back to official sense 6 and see if that works also...
thanks for any suggestions...

It worked fine for me with KitKat.
Friday evening I upgraded to LolliPop. (Did a clean install, no data restore from backup)
Since then I have the same problem. Once you lose your Bluetooth connection it won't reconnect anymore.
You have to unpair and the repair in order to be connected again. A real pain in the ass, as I use it only for the notifications on the bracelet.
I have had a Vivosmart since the week they came out. I had a lot of the BT issues the first few months (mainly due to their software being released before it was really production ready) but has been fine since. I'm rooted and have ran a few different roms without an issue. Currently I'm using SkyDragon's Sense 7 rom. I haven't had to pair to my phone due to disconnects for at least a couple months. Are you pairing from with-in the Connect app? At one time the pairing was done via the regular android BT devices but they got rid of that and now pair from the app only. So technically your Vivosmart shouldn't ever show up on the list of installed/connected BT devices because it's only paired from the Connect app. I'm sure you've been on the garmin forum but if you haven't or someone else reading this hasn't it's here https://forums.garmin.com/forumdisplay.php?478-vivosmart. I've seen posts over there about m8 users having problems but don't remember reading if anyone was able to get the problem fixed and what they did. It doesn't make sense that it works for some (like me).
Hello,
I have same problem with Garmin Fenix 3. Apparently there is some bug in HTC ONE M8 Android 5.0.1
I am able to connect and connection is quite stable but watch wont reconnect automatically.
Usually it will reconnect once you reset BT on phone and than on watch. But its quite annoying so I am also looking for solutions. Any idea? Ive tried to add watch to trusted device under smart lock but its not working either. I know most Garmin devices worked on previous version of android on HTC ONE M8 but with Lollipop its bugged..

G'day wakers,
I have had exactly the same problem with my m8. I also have only used insertcoin rom which may be part of the problem as I have an identical m8 with stock lollipop (never unlocked or rooted) and it has no problems with the vivosmart or Garmin Fenix BLE connection.
I have since sold my m8 and traded up to an m9, which is still stock, but I'm reluctant to flash custom Rom as the Bluetooth works perfectly... On the other hand, stock roms drive me mental with bloatware and ads.
If you try another Rom I'd be very interested to hear how you go...as it may give me some confidence to unlock my brand new m9.
Cheers.

I'm experiencing an even worst problem with no pairing at all with my fenix 3 and Garmin Connect with Cyanogenmod 12.1 .
I've done the test with a Samsung SII, Oneplus X and Oneplus One. All pairing fail and all with Cyanogenmod 12.1
It's working well with a Samsung Galaxy S5 ! So if one Cyanogenmod developper is reading this, can you please let us know if this bug is known, or if you can log it, and i can help some troubleshooting as well.

Solution found on my side by realizing that one dialog box is not scaled in Garmin Connect and so the "yes" button is not visible in material design. I've understood this by rolling back to Cyanogenmod 11 and see the process.
Workaround is to use a language with shorter words like english. My initial set was in French. So if it can help somebody else with Garmin Connect, use it

Bluetooth Controller

Hi guys, I hope you can help.
I recently brought and installed A Pumpkin 10.1 unit (rk3188).
Ive managed to get Malaysk's custom rom installed but my issue is that i dont have steering wheel controls so i brought a satechi media button. (Because im a new user i cant post a link)
The thing is i can get the unit to find it but it will not connect to it. Could it be a bluetooth name limitation on the unit? is there a work around?
Thank you for your time guys.
Kris
I'm having the same issue... I think its temporal issue, I will update to 23 april rom...
Cool. Let me know how you get on.
The only BT devices that are supported are OBDII readers and Phones (for phonebook sharing, calls and media streaming). No other devices will work (media controllers, gamepads, etc).
That's a shame. I need to look at another work around. Thank you for the info
Is there any way around to connect to non OBDII devices via rooting and using xposed framework
I'm looking for a way for this to happen as well. Just purchased an iSimple remote for my Joying head unit. Lo-and-behold it doesn't work because... reasons? How hard is it for the programmers to allow a remote device use media controls while any other android unit will allow this?

I need help understanding how bluetooth works on these MTCB HU's.

I've searched and looked, and I can't seem to find a complete answer to exactly how the bluetooth works on these things.
As far as I can tell; there is the native bluetooth manager that's built into Android, and then a Bluetooth app. Seems like the app is used to make calls and stream from the phone?
I've also read that there cannot be an OBD2 sensor and a phone connected at the same time? I remember reading somewhere that's because Android doesn't actually handle the bluetooth itself, so if I were to get a bluetooth dongle, would that fix this?
FYI, I have a joying headunit and I have been using the Torque app w/ a Bluetooth ODBII adapter and received calls while both are connected. But yes the Bluetooth profiles that come with these units are very limited and basic.

What is your process in getting them to work together?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I remembered that I had another BT OBD2 adapter. I was using this one and couldn't get it to work, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011NSX27A/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_F0mqxbPZDQSQ5
I then pulled out my old one, (not this exact one, but looks identical) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EQ57BE8/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_b8mqxbA6SEVRV and now they both are working together.

Is it possible to get DashCommand working on these units? I like it better than torque.

Sure no problem, and what I did is just buy a self powered USB hub and stick an additional Bluetooth dongle in there (android compatible, costs about $4) and pair with both.
Never had a problem with any of them
Hello,
The BT module in these devices are not an internal device, rather an external BT chip. There is no direct data line between device and BT chip. Basically they send commands and share metadata over serial port. Thats all about so dont consider it is a native bluetooth device.
