Is there a way to customise the navigation bar to have apps shortcuts & media buttons on the same page as the three navigation buttons? This was a feature of a SlimRom i used on 4.4.4.
The closest thing i found is XPOSED module Xtended NavBar but it's not quite working and you need to swipe to get to media buttons (not on same page as nav buttons).

Hi,
I am using SideControl to navigate in immersive mode so I would like to disable PIE as well as the navigation bar showing up when swiping from the bottom.
So swiping up from the bottom touch area should bring me back to the home-screen. However, when enabling PIE, it obviously brings up PIE, when disabling PIE it brings up the navigation bar..
So how can I disable both?!
Thanks a lot!
You can't.
We wouldn't implement a feature that removes all navigation options
Maybe place pie on the left edge of the device

You can try disabling the navbar in build prop by adding qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1
This way you can hide the navbar without the need for immersive mode (and thus pie).

Hi!
Thank you so much!!! This solved my problem!!
Hello! I'm hoping that I can disable the soft navigation bar, and go to a more traditional Fire OS style of navigation, using swipe navigation.
I found a post caliming that "PImp my rom" can disable the nav bar, but it didn't seem to respond to the tweak option, and I still have the soft nav bar
Thank you,
cheers

But expandable Desktop doesnt set the on screen keys to disable, only hide. They'll still show if you're swiping up.
Adding a new line with qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 to root/system/build.prop with a text editor Will permanently disable on-screen keys. It would have been handy if there was a UI shortcut for that somewhere.
Anyway I force-disabled Screen buttons, set Double tap to recent apps, and hold button to google now. Then bought the app you suggested to set all 3 swipe from bottom gestures to mimic the back function. Now the navigation feels just like FireOS's except amazon search assistant is replaced with google and I love it.

Using a prop editor, I was able to add h qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 to root/system/build.prop <-- fantastic fix
I then customized the home button to do double tap-- app library, and hold-- switch back to last app.
Swipe Navigation works wonders, just as Chocolina stated above
Better solution
If you want to completly disable navigation bar soft keys then you must install slim kat,you can easily completly disable the soft keys and can add swipe up navigation just like amazon..i m also using slim kat rom and i have personally tested all roms but look wose slim kat is the best rom and no bugs in it..i have also disabled the system navigation keys and added swipe up to go back and hold home button for recent apps.

how to add "swipe up to go back"?
Isn't there any work around to get DT2S functionality on OOS stock rom by tapping anywhere of the screen or status bar?Is that a kernel exclusive feature? Iam starting to like the gestures for navigation and so couldn't stick to customizing the nav bar for DT2S. Please suggest any working modules.
Just download latest Oneplus launcher from apkmirror. It has this feature.
Thank you @daviddem
I set to double click home button to close screen. It can be setup under settings.
Gravitybox has double tap status bar, Nova Launcher has double tap too.
hi, if someone is using DU (pixel 3 in particular) can confirm if it is possible to center clock and show date in status bar?
and is it possible to someway assign actions like "show volume panel", "show power menu", "expand notification panels", "kill foreground app" with long press back button etc etc to navbar gestures?
or if not, is possible to show old navbar style instead of using new gestures and assign such actions to virtual navbar buttons?
tia!

Center clock? Wouldn't the notch hide it? edit: NVM realised it's for Pixel 3. Yes you can center it as far as I know. And yes, you can use Smartbar (legacy navbar kind of)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Devs, I see most of the ROMs now has the gesture navigation and it is easier at the same time it gives more screen space than using the navigation bar. But since our Z2 has the U-Touch button in the bottom-centre it is difficult to perform the recents gesture by swiping from the centre. So can you guys customize the gesture-navigation to:
-left side gesture to Home
-right side to Recents
-right side long hold to Previous app
-and disable the middle gesture
For these at present I use Swipe Navigation app but sometimes it doesn't work and most time it is laggy.

Yes, but I'm saying about this navigation gestures (pfa). Using a navigation bar, smart bar or even fling will reduce the screen space a lot, since our Z2 is only 5". That's why the stock ZUI has only one button that does almost all the navigation functions. Actually I was saying that all other Navigation options except the navigation gestures have a lot of customizations. Regarding the XDA app it is not reliable, that's why I use Swipe Navigation app.
