I bricked my S4 mini i9195.
When I try to enter recovery or just normal boot, nothing appears on screen, but it can boot to download mode.
So at firtst, I tried Odin, but it always stops at
<ID:0/004> SetupConnection.. or
<ID:0/004> Initialzation..
I also tried heimdall, it coudn't rescue my phone too.
In my computer(OS is Windows), my device is shown as SAMSUNG Mobile USB CDC Composite Device.
So I think it's not a hard brick like QHSUSB_DLOAD.
Is there any solution for me?
try something else. like turning off anti virus, closing kies or other samsung apps from task manager, and running the odin as administrator, or changing the usb port.
And also changing the cable. Try to not use a front USB port if it's a PC. If it's a laptop then change the port as suggested.

Hi, I was attempting to root my phone (T989 on telus), I had gotten into the download mode, and odin had the phone recognized, yellow color and it said added.
But when I tried to do the recovery.tar step in here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332103) Odin came up with a big red FAIL.
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..

<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..

Now the phone says,
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again. I looked at other threads, reinstalled drivers, pulled battery, restarted phone, and tried to recover with kies (which wouldnt connect) and to no luck.
Please help, I just bought this phone a month ago, and my uncle had been tellign me about how good rooting is.
EDIT: Ok somehow I fixed the problem.
I reinstalled keys, switched a usb port, downloaded recovery.tar again, and then tried to do the step again.
This time it worked, phone is now working.
One thing with using odin is that you want to use a usb port that i connected directly to the mother board. Not sure how you figure that out if your not a geek besides trial and error. Glad you fixed it though Only use that usb port from now on!
I was originally using one of the ports at the back anyway, which should be connected straight to the motherboard, but just in case I switched to a port lower down. It was either that or reinstalling the usb drivers. Needless to say, I almost crapped myself and I think ill stop here until I can get a friend who knows what he is doing to do this for me lol
my phone seems to be unrootable. I have tried everything, but I always get a write fail message after hanging at "Setup Connection" in Odin for a few minutes. My phone is recognized by my computer, I am able to drag and drop files to it. When plugged into Odin I am able to see the COM message. My phone does seem to have a hard time connecting to Kies, I believe it only connected to the software once.
Any solutions anyone?
If you're using ODIN, then uninstall Kies. It interferes with ODIN.
Also try switching cables, USB ports, and computers if possible.

You can check HERE for more info on how to accomplish what you want to do. You can also use the S3 TOOLKIT. Lastly when in doubt you can check out THIS thread. If all else fails there's always THIS method .
Tried your suggestions already

Yeah did everything you listed, except for the toolkit. One thing I am noticing when I have my phone in download mode and it is plugged into the computer it registers as MSM8960, which from my search on google seems to be a chipset.
Thanks for the reply CNexus and prboy1969
Im curios to know if you unistalled the drivers and installed them again.

One thing I would check is your USB mode may be set to debug. Look for the S3 dialer codes and find the one that changes the USB mode and switch it to PDA (I believe). If its on modem/debug or whatever else it may be the cause.
*EDIT: I think this may be why it shows up a MSM8960. I just tested my sprint S3 in odin mode and it shows up as "Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device"
I would also suggest running the connection troubleshooter in KIES which re-installs the drivers. In my experiences KIES does not cause a conflict with ODIN (I've had both installed with no issues during my time with the S2 and S3).
Finally, reboot both the phone & PC, and try again. If it still fails swap out your USB cable.

In the past on older phones when I used a desktop the front usb ports wouldn't work had to use the back usbs. Try a different port?

You're in download mode and you've flashed the custom recovery right? Do a Google search of "how to root sprint Galaxy s3 androidcentral" and obviously click the one that says androidcentral

Follow whatever guide your using for how to use Odin.
Ie: just put the md5 file where its says PDA..
Put your phone in download mode..
Pull battery.. Put back.. Hold vol.down home and power..
Then at prompt push vol.up.
Phone will show I'm download mode.
The file.I would push is twrp.
The 2.5.0.0 works well on most all I do.
Once you have your custom recovery to install
Zips your good to go..
Just push the recovery and reboot the phone back into
The recovery mode..you shouldnt get errors.. I would say
To make sure your using a newer version of Odin and if you've
Messed with drivers always reboot PC.!!
Volume up.. Home and power this time..
And Go to recovery and flash whatever rooted ROM you want.
I'm good on computer anatomy and the ones in the back are usually fast, they are directly on the mobo

I have done everything you listed. Here is a question for you. When your phone is in download mode and you plug it in to the computer, what does it register as under Device & printers. I stated this before, but when I plug my phone in, it comes up as MSM8960. I did the S3 dialer code thing and all looks good, the phone is set to PDA and Qualcomm USB Settings are set to MTP+ADB (Thanks rocket321 for your assistance on that.)
Have you tried this method. It never fails comes with video and everything

I tried that tutorial, as a matter a fact that was the first one I used. When I check what drivers are being installed I see "SAMSUNG Mobile USB CDC Composite Device" and "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem #3" the #3 I am guessing is the USB port for which I am connected to (This number changes with every port when my device is connected to the computer). Does anyone get the same exact messages when they plug in their phone and drivers began to install? Odin Message below:

As everything seems to be going right up until the flash, I might suggest you try flashing a different file.
Try CF-Auto-Root from the 3rd post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963812
Make sure you unzip to the .tar.md5 file and try flashing that in the PDA slot in Odin.
If that works you will have stock recovery but rooted ROM. From there you can use Mobile Odin to flash a customer recovery assuming you would like to have CWM or TWRP.

So the Samsung drivers do install when you connect the phone to the PC? If that step is OK then have you tried a different USB port and a different USB cable? When Odin fails it is almost always a problem with the USB cable.
I have this same phone and I followed the QBKing77 video with no issues. It worked flawlessly but in the past Odin issues ended up being the USB cable.

Have you made sure that the drivers are installed as suggested above. Also I'm not sure if I mentioned this. But I've had similar weirdness from using a bad USB Cable.

Hey guys, im new with this model.
A friend apply a OTA to this phone and now the phone dont boot, in odin the EMMC firm is [] (nothing in).
Odin cant load a rom to the phone now, im ****ed, not with PIT file. Stuck in setup conection or writting NAND followed by a huge fail.
Someone with a suggestion?
Thanks.
Reflash it with the same or older ROMs, better go for the older ones.
If you get this error then your PIT is damaged
<ID:0/009> There is no PIT partition.
Then you need to flash with the .pit file,
This should be done only if, it is that much essential.
1. Connect phone to PC and see it gets detected.
2. Click on the PIT button and browse for the .PIT file in the zip
3. Click on PDA and browse for the original firmware file (
4. Ensure that all three check boxes, i.e. Auto Re-boot, Re-Partition, F. Reset Time are selected (checked). Re-Partition shoul be selected only if u have selected PIT file
See This thread to download PIT file thanks to DMJoh
I tried with PIT, but Odin show me:
Writing NAND.
FAIL!
Without PIT odin stuck at "setup conection" message.
Downloading a old rom to try. But i think the emmc die.
Thanks.
1. Was USB Debugging enabled on your device?
2. You got the latest Samsung drivers installed on your pc?
3. Did you make sure Samsung kies is not running in the system tray?
4. Make sure any antivirus or firewalls are switched off.
1 . Phone dont boot.
2. Yeah i installed that stuff yesterday.
3.kies closed.
4.no antivirus on my pc

Hi,
Use diff USB cabel and Diff USB port and try again sometimes problem will with cable or port though it detects in PC probs will occur on flashing
I tried in two more pcs with diferent cables but nothing, sadly i think the phone is dead, maybe with a box.
My daughter was loading a game on my phone when it froze. I pressed the home button but nothing. I pressed the power button and nothing. I took out the battery put it back in to restart it and got the old tv static snow screen. I can only turn the phone off by removing the battery. I can get to the Odin mode download target screen. I have tried Odin3 v3.07 and KIES_HOME_T889UVALJ1_T889TMBALJ1_260018_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 and followed instructions for how to unbrick on youtube. Odin gives me this: File analysis
SetupConnection...
Initialization..
Get PIT for mapping..
There is no PIT partition.
All threads completed. (succeed 0/ failed 1)
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
PS. - I have images on my computer but have no option to attach to my post.
I suggest downloading the latest stock rom from sammobile.com if you have not already done so and flash it using the original Samsung USB cable. If that doesn't work, try with different USB cables and USB ports.

Just followed you instructions and the instructions on sammobile.com and in Odin it still says no PIT partition file and FAIL in red.
Any other suggestions? Should I search for a PIT file for my Note II T889?
Are you flashing with the original Samsung USB cable? Have you tried other USB cables and USB ports?
Hello,
i have a problem whit installing a tab s4 with odin
<ID:0/004> Added!!
<ID:0/004> Odin engine v(ID:3.1301)..

This is all it do cant find the problem
i have this problem too. tried odin 1.13.3, odin 1.13.1patched, newer samsung mobile drivers, usb3 cable, another computer usb port. tried after ota update to bootloader 2 OREO. nothing yet helped. please help to find solution.
Please try this
Install KIES, then uninstall it and then try Odin flash.. If that also fails then Connect your tab to your computer via USB 2.0 hub and try Odin flash..
flashed firmware/twrp with odin 1.13.1 a730f, n950f, j400f, t825, with odin 1.13.3 t725, a405fn. but cann't flash T835.
tried bootloader locked/unlocked too. also waited over 168hours with samsung account logged in.
Try launching Odin as an administrator and use the stock OEM Cable in a USB 2.0 port
I also have the same problem when using Odin on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S4, anyone know what the problem is?
solved
!worked only on old intel i5-2520M notebook!
odin3 v3.13.1 usb drivers 1.7.17.0
no chance to flash with AMD on A12-9720P notebook and Ryzen 7 3700X pc.
I know the OP resovled their issue, but I had the same problem and a cheap USB 2.0 hub was the magic bullet for me. I had upgraded my computer and all it has are 3.0 ports.
I hope this may help someone else.
