Style Cover - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day. I just recently bought the original SONY style cover for my Z5P. Now my question is how can I set it to immediately lock my phone once I close the cover ? Will my phone just based on the the screen timeout ( I set it into 15 seconds) I set into to automatically lock after sleep? I cant seem to find a solution to this problem. I dont really care that it remains locke if I open the style cover cause I dont want people to be able to unlock it just by opening the cover but my only concern is to ensure it locks once I close the cover. Thanks.

Turn on nfc and tap your phone on the cover (there's an nfc tag right below the front window, you'll need to take your phone out of the case first) and download the sony smart cover theme. After you enable it every time you close the cover it will automatically lock your phone.
Or you can download the app from this link.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonymobile.themes.cover.black

Do you know how to get it to work with RomAur? At first it did nothing, then I managed to install the coverapp and cover widget, but it doesnt lock my screen, in fact it stays as if i never closed it. it do light up when i open the cover. It does not resize the screen to fit the window either. Its like it doesnt notice the cover being closed, it only reacts when i open it, but thats all.
Before installing the cover apps my phone didnt even know what to do with the nfc tag on the cover.
The cover works fine, tested on another z5p, and previously worked great on this phone aswell, untill I flashed RomAur.

Hmm sorry, it might be an issue with the rom then, I'm only on stock rom so I can't really offer much help...

Ok, no problem! I am considering flashing stock again, I was a bit disappointed to se so few custom roms for the z5p. Or is it just a bit early still?

I think the biggest issue is that root hasn't been discovered without unlocking the bootloader, so not as many roms have been released until that happens. Just a guess though

You are probably right
Do you by any chanse know if its possible to flash stock rom via twrp recovery, without using a pc? I assume it would be if I had the .zip file of the stock rom. Is it possible, and does anyone know where I can find a download for it that does not need to be flashed via flashtool?
I realize this is the wrong place to ask probably, but you seemed nice

Sorry, I wish I could help you with that, but I looked around and only see tft files of the stock rom and no zip to use for flashing in recovery. I'm not really an expert with flashing roms either so I don't want to give you wrong info and have you end up bricking your phone .

Ok, no problem at all, thanks for helping! Thats the only files I could find aswell.
I am no expert either, but on a plus side I work in the same building as sonys workshop in my country, so if it got bricked I think I know someone who would help me even with unlocked bootloader and void warranty. I probably gave the repair man I know, about 8+ working xperia Z1/2/3 phones for free, that they can use for spare parts or whatever
Could ask him tomorrow if they can just restore it 100% back to original state.
I'll let you know what he says.

Hey thanks. Im already familiar with what you said. Tagged my cover via NFC and already downloaded the app. Now what happens is that closing the cover doesnt lock the phone but instead just turns off the screen. If I open the cover once again, it turns on the screen and still ramains unlocked. Though closing the cover for too long will lock the phone but not because of the style cover itself but because I set it to automatically lock at a given period of time (15 seconds). What I want is that it will lock the phone in an instant once I close the cover. Doesnt seem to have that settings though.

Ah sorry I misunderstood what you meant originally. I see what you mean now as I just tried it on my phone and it doesn't lock if I close the screen and open it back up again. Unfortunately I don't see an option from the smart cover app or inside the settings either... only way to make it lock right away is to hit the power button.

No worries.Thanks. I believe this defeats the purpose of style cover that you want to lock your phone simply by closing the cover and minimize the use of hardware button. I know its not that tasking or difficult to just simply press the power button but I think its easier to just flip the cover if I wanted it to be locked which I believe should be the one main purpose of the a specialized NFC style cover. The lack of such option sucks.

Phone always has a white screen, but seems to work

Hi Forum,
I got a dash with the WM 6.1 from this great forum.
Somehow since yesterday the screen turned completely white
There was no physical impact on the phone what so ever...
When I turn the phone on, the screen is all the time white... but the phone is still working since the alarm is still ringing....
I've tried already the following:
- took the battery out for over 6 hours and tried again
- with and without sim/sd card
- to reset the phone but with no success since I cant see anything (2 softbuttons, powerbutton etc.)
- putting WM 6.5 with no success with the Error 270
- pressing and holding any button
- tipping the jagger for 3 times
- and finally hitting the phone
All these steps didnt use me anything...
I'd be gratefull for any sudgestions
Maybe the screen is just damaged and its not because of the software...
thanks a lot,
RedDot69
Hard-reset will be best option and can be done blind since it's button sequence as known then green key, i knopw that peeps have done it blind and with you spending enough time it will be sorted... The other option is bootloader and flash your stock ROM as won't get an error 270
thanks for the fast reply.
ok about the hard reset.
I hold both buttons beside green and red button then while holding i turn on the phone (power button more then 3 sec.) after it turned on i let go of the buttons and press the green button (I pressed it a several times). What after that?? will everything happen automatically??
if yes then the hard reset wont help since its still white...
unfortunately I dont have the original ROM anymore (WM5).
Do you know where I can get it??
Ok I guess I managed to hard reset this thing.
Unfortunately with no success
can anyone help?
will the problem be gone if I change the display?

Can you sync with your PC? That's something that you haven't state in your original post.
From what you have posted in the first post, looks to me like your phone has suffered water/moisture damage. Classic white screen, nothing shows, display turns off after default timeout seconds, phone functions smoothly. For this to occur, you dont have to dunk the phone in water, phone in pocket when exposed to light rain, snow will do it.
If this is the case, the first thing you can do to salvage the phone is to remove the battery, otherwise the charge will short circuit more, leading to irreparable damage.
Second thing, try and keep it open for 24 hours or more and try ONCE more, just once, if the moisture has been evaporated. If not, remove battery again.
Next you will need to find a service center where they will dismantle the phone and physically air dry the PCB, and hopefully if it hasnt already shorted, it will come back to life.
The cost for this could vary from minimal to astronomical, depending upon which country you are in.
Do not take my words for granted, do a google for phone water damage, find out if those are your exact symptoms.
All the best.

yes I can. I already saved the contact list The phone is perfectly working beside the white display...
@ ccpraveen
I really dont think thats the case. Since I was sleeping on the couch, the phone's alarm went of like at 11 and it was all ok, then 30 min later the screen was all white
And the night before I left the phone at home...
Bringing the phone to some service center is out of question, since I live in Germany... If possible, I'd have to repair it my self...
By the way the Display time out works too... Somehow I got the feeling that it wouldnt use me anything to change the display

install this on your computer http://www.mymobiler.com/
it will silently install on your s620 when it syncs with activesync and you will be able to view your screen from your computer monitor
if everything works buy a new lcd from ebay and replace it because its probably broken

My impression is that you have a hardware problem, maybe your screen has something loose. If you state that you will fix it by yourself, you can read the sticky on how to take apart your dash.
There are also power management settings that will turn the display white, however if it is white all the time, then it's probably hardware. Loose connections does sound possible. I'd check that first
You can try the following:
*- COMPLETELY disassemble your phone.
*- Take the PCBs apart on a table or something.
Then... take an hairdryer!!!
You have to dry your PCBs: take a PCB in your hand and do the work.
Be aware of not using TOO HOT air, or you'll melt all.
If it doesn't work, try to dry your LCD.
Doesn't work?
Okay, then the only 2 possible fixes are:
*- Replace the LCD Flex Cable if not integrated in the LCD.
*- Replace the LCD.
Hope that you'll get your phone fixed and running

[Q] inc 2 with dead screen

So i recently got a free upgrade to a inc 2 by turning my og inc in under warranty for a blow speaker (for the third time) and i naturally rooted it and installed a nice miui rom. Now about a month later im out of town for work and the screen has died. The phone is still operational, but the screen is black.
I am wondering if this could possibly a firmware issue? i have tried pulling the battery and booting into recovery but the screen is 100% useless. the touchscreen still seems to work, i can unlock it and answer calls ect...
My hunch is that its a hardware problem, but i'd like to try and flash it back to stock if possible to eliminate the possibility of a rom issue.
Does anyone know a way to flash a rom onto it without the use of the screen?
Can i use the HTC sync tool to set it back to stock like i could with the OG incredible?
Any help is much appreciated, i'm pretty desperate here.
if it was me, I'd flash it back to stock using a ruu file, then do a warranty claim, cause then if it's a firmware/software issue the ruu will fix it. There's a thread somewhere around that has instructions to do that, give me a minute...
Edit -found it! Here ya go- http://rootzwiki.com/topic/1579-how-to-restore-to-stock-from-alpharevx-incredible-2-vivow-only/page__st__53

ok, so my new issue is that if i flash the ruu, and the screen still doesn't work, i'll be stuck at the setup wizard right? then i won't even be able to use google voice to make calls from my laptop. i guess ill have to wait till i get home, this would be so much easier if my pos nextel work phone had service out here in wyoming.
Yea, that's a tough one, I definitely wouldn't flash an RUU for the exact reason you bring up.
One option, although it isn't without it's own challenges, would be to try to install a VNC server on your phone, so you could then connect to and use it through a desktop computer. You could probably install it easy enough through the Android Market web site. Here's one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.onaips.vnc
If you download the Android SDK (http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html), connect your phone to your computer, open a command prompt and run ddms, it'll bring up the Dalvic Debug Monitor. Here, you can go to Device>Screen Capture and it'll bring up a window showing the screen of your phone. There's a refresh button which will refresh the screenshot. It'll be a little hit or miss, but you should be able to reference the screenshot to tap on your blank screen to open the VNC app, hit the start server button, and then see what IP/port it's listening on.
Once you get the VNC server running and connect, you should be able to use the phone fairly easily, although if the screen is dead even during boot (no initial boot screen, no display in h-boot) it would seem like a hardware problem and there's probably not much you can do about it.

I ran into a similar problem with black screen over the weekend.
However my phone was not rooted.
This is how it happened.
I was using my phone then I saw the screen flicker once or twice, then it went black.
I pulled out the battery and powered up again.
The phone vibrated, and after a while the four bottom buttons light up.
The volume keys work and I could receive incoming calls, but the screen just stays black.
One thing to note is that my pocket was a little wet before I pulled out the phone to use.
Also that I did use my phone for a good 5-10 mins before it went black.
What I am trying to determine is if it is a software issue or hardware.
Are the bottom button lights separate from LCD screen, so that even if they light up it could still mean LCD is bad?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Just got my gsm nexus and I like it but.....

Last night I updated to the latest ics update so I'm on 4.0.4. I've noticed it shuts off by itself occasionally. Even now at work, phone is laying flat and it shut off once. Also this morning driving to work phone was on my dash and it shut off. Both times phone was in sleep mode and I didn't know it shut off completely until I tried to turn screen on with volume keys or power button. I would then of course have to hold down power button to start phone up again. I haven't rooted or anything , I'm stock. I've tried tapping the back by the battery to see if something was loose but nothing happened.
Maybe some of you guys have experienced the same. Will this go away when I start rooting and romming ,or do I have defective hardware?
So no-one? So far I looked online and someone mentioned putting paper under battery to hold it tighter against contacts? I'm trying that but not sure if it's making battery hotter. I'll see if that works.
Also called Google just in case I have to go through the returning process which I hope not to go through this is what they emailed me for my issue.
" Greetings and salutations,
Thank you for contacting Google. It was my pleasure assisting you today. Many issues can be resolved by performing a hard reset by removing the battery or by factory data resetting your device, but first I'd like you to try removing the battery, wiping it clean with lint free cloth, as well as the prongs that connect to the battery itself. Try this a few times, if it does not work this should. Be sure to backup any personal files you may have on the device.
To factory data reset your device, touch the Settings icon from your ‘Home’ or ‘All Apps’ screen, then select ‘Backup & reset’ under ‘Personal.’
If you're unable to get to your Settings menu, follow the steps below:
1. Power down your device 2. Press and hold both volume keys and the power button to enter Bootloader mode 3. Press the volume keys to cycle to the Recovery mode option 4. Press the power button to select Recovery mode 5. From the Recovery mode screen, press and hold the Power button then press the Volume up button. 6. Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset. 7. Select Yes -- delete all user data. 8. The factory data reset process will now start. Once its finished, select 'Reboot system now.

I better root and try a Rom asap huh?
I'd say get a replacement for it while you still can.
yeah getting a replacement could be the wisest thing to do
altho if when you received it in 4.0.1 it wasnt randomly shutting then something might've gone wrong with the update so you can unlock your bootloader and flash some ROMs to see how that goes
I definitely want to try some roms before I replace it as I have some time under Samsung's waranty. I also want to gently pull the contacts out a bit with small pliers to see if it holds the battery better. I'll even clean the contacts.
Man I'm hoping it's software ...

Gently pull the contacts out? Wouldn't that void your warranty? I'd be careful with the hardware if I were you.
Unless your battery contacts on the phone are smashed/deformed, it is unlikely that the battery connection is being physical broken at the contacts. The battery fits fairly snug in the compartment and the contacts stay touching even when the battery is partially removed. Probably no benefit to placing a piece of paper in there. Also keep in mind your NFC is in the battery.
I am also using a "Yakju" device from Google Play. No similar issue on 4.0.4 stock or CM9. At least not this nightly build : )
I actually got the GSM nexus yesterday and I had the exact same problem. The phone powered itself off twice. Once right after I turned it on and again about two hours later. Both times it occurred when I was moving around with the phone.
I pulled the battery and popped it back in a few times and it hasn't happened since.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
You guys are probably right. The battery does already feel snug in there.
As I'm reading through forums for my issue, I can't believe how many sgn users are experiencing the same thing I am, some even reboots. Alot of them think it's apps. Good chance I'll exchange for the another device with same issue. I'm starting to wonder if this is why Google dropped the price.
Can't wait to get home and mess with this more. Hopefully I can make it go away.
I had this same problem when I first got mine with random reboots an powering off by itself, after about 2 weeks the problem went away, don't ask me how it seem to magically go away by itself maybe because battery needed time to settle in with the charging process.

I'm happy to report, knock on wood, that after I factory reset the phone the problem seems to have gone away. Last night I used the toolkit to unlock bootloader and root, and I flashed cm9 nightly and all is good so far. My only problem now is I dont know which rom to try next
I definitely want something with led customizations like cm9 has, thats just so old school reminds me of a blackberry .
Any suggestions, I guess I can also ask elsewhere.

I had light flow going when my phone would shut itself off. It doesnt include alot of the apps I use to customize so I'm not the biggest fan of it now. I think the cm9 led customizations is sufficient as it lets you add any of your apps regardless.
Aokp has more features and is most popular so you could try that. Then try paradigm rom. I done use light flow, I just have a few led colors from stock and its enough for me for now. Google voice green, handcent texts blue, and Gmail and calls white. All from the stock apps.
Black ice is good so far. So many different variations of aokp roms I guess, its hard to recommend the "best" one.

[Q]Xperia Pro - Screen Issues

Hey guys,
My Xperia Pro has been running into some problems with the display as of late. What happens is after a short period of keeping the phone idle, it doesn't wake up. When the power button or the home button is pressed, it just shows a blueish-black screen and the lights between the physical buttons light up. Same thing happens when the keyboard is slid out. The backlight of the keys work but the screen still shows a blueish-black color. After trying again and again, the screen finally works, just to run into the same problem after locking the screen.
I tried changing the ROM and flashing a different kernel to no use. Then I finally flashed a stock Gingerbread firmware. Now the screen doesn't show any blueish-black shade or anything else at all!!!! I have currently just left my phone to charge because I don't want the battery to run out during this crisis. I have also re-booted many, many times by pulling out and re-inserting the battery.
Any suggestions and tips would be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance guys!
My Xperia Pro have the same issue . Like when unlock , no screen (black) ,
The issue I found out is having something to do with my back cover
ie. If I remove the cover and reboot , and then unlock /lock , no problem, As soon as i put the back cover , it unlocks with black screen , I was sure no kernel or fw was the reason , as i have been through diff kernels and fws /roms without an issue like this , and as soon as the black screen shows and you try to restart it wont even show the logo , so i was damn sure ,its no kernel issue , Please check this method , i will try to find the exact issue why the back cover is making this.
Update: Found out that the push made by back cover with the battery (which basically may be jamming the strip or something inside) is making the problem , It may have more to it than this ,anyway this is my phone's problem

That actually worked for me initially..removing the back cover and rebooting. But its not now, what ever I do I only see the dim lit LCD screen.
But yeah, I am able to unlock the phone in the blind and also hear the increase/ decrease in the volume by pressing the volume rocker and also touch and hold on the home screen to feel the vibration (guess for removing the widget or something that's already there).
So is there any solution for this, or any first aid before I get my Xperia Pro to the service centre ??

[Q] Touchscreen gone full retard! - Is it fixable?

Ok, so half a year ago i used my xperia arc for a couple of minutes, locked it. And then when i was about to unlock it just 2 minutes later the phone started vibrating, the slide to unlock button was blinking and the lower part of the screen was not responding to my touch.
I could however unlock the phone by swiping my finger from left to right about 2,5cm higher than the swipe to unlock button is located.
.
I delivered it to service and they told me it was water damage to the motherboard, and that i had to get a new phone. (I dont think its water damage, since the water sensors where triggered when i lost the phone in the snow half a year before this happened, and at the time the screen malfunctioned the phone had been dry for ages)
I now own a iPhone 5, but it would be nice to have a phone i could use when in dangerous situations, camping in the forest, skiing etc.
Now i have tried to connect my Arc to the pc and opened up pc companion, but i have lost the SIM card a long time ago, and i can not enter the unlock pattern on my phone due to the weird screen, so i am not able to troubleshoot the phone via that program.
So i was wondering if there is any chance for me to rescue my phone, either it is software or screen replacement i need.
(If a new SIM is needed for troubleshooting i can just go to the store and get one)
I can also upload a video of the phone if that would be to any help.
Edit: Seems like every time i touch the upper/middle part of the screen the lower part of the screen also registers my touch.
Thank you for helping me out with this troublesome issue.

Use the youtube video feature on the forum.
Take the video code and put it between youtube tags, for example
If video's link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmvCpR45LKA, then the video code is everything after =, in this case it is
JmvCpR45LKA

So you have to put it between youtube tags, like this
Code:
[ YOUTUBE]JmvCpR45LKA[/YOUTUBE]
(Remove the space between [ and Y, I removed it to show, how it works.)
Then it appears like this
This was just an example. Post your video by the same method.
Have you tried flashing stock firmware?
From what I think this is that somehow ur screens size has been reduced in the system, bcuz if the screen would have gone bad u wudnt be able to unlock it from 2.5cm above the actual place
But this is just me guessing a reason
I suggest you flash stock firmware using flashtool, or use repair option on PC companion
There are many guides on xda to use flashtool

Thank you for helping me out with this troublesome issue.
