I bought a new Zenfone 2 (1.8 GHz and 4GB ram) from china
( a company called Topmall China) after a few weeks i decided to see if there was any android update to the phone. I found many updates but neither one that was automatically detected by my phone. So I decided to contact the Asus support here in Sweden (the mobile have not been released here so :/) so from the Asus support I understood that there are many different ROM for the phone and could not be sure that I could change the ROM to the EU version because of the EU ROM image. The support also provided me with the EU image.
I personally think that it will work but I don't know exactly how to do and I want different opinions from other people that are better with android.

I think this device has a locked bootloader (as some other's do). The sourcode is not yet available on ASUS, although I did find the Kernel source there.
Can someone please help us get this device rooted?
I am willing to fully offer my device as support and help to get this tested and working.

Is your device is a plain ZenFone 2 5,5" or a Laser one?
From what I know as of right now I do not believe there is root or unlocked bootloader at this time for the ZE551KL Laser version.
I'm confused of whether I have a ZE550ML, ZE551ML, Z008 or Z00A. I'm pretty sure I purchase the 2gb ram model with 1.8 g processor. Boot loader says Z00A, but I found the 2gb model is the Z008? I also googled and found the ZE500ML is the 2gb model. I want to flash TWRP onto my phone but I'm confused which model so to not brick phone. about phone shows ASUS_Z00AD and firmware version begins with Z00A. Evidence points to my phone being Z00A, but I just want to make sure,
Apparently there is a 2gb version of the 551ML...
What does it say in "About" in your settings?

As per my opinion if you have a FullHD device then it's Z00A. If it's just HD then it's Z008. I also have the 2gb/1.8 FHD model and I read it somewhere that its Z00A. But really there isn't much info out there about this model so keep this post updated if you install Z00A or Z008 recovery to help guys like us.

just pop off your battery cover/back cover and look on the battery, it says your device model.
shown here in this photo, mind the quality though had to use my tablet for the photo.

If you have 1080p display it is 551ml.
I know it is confusing because Asus introduced many devices named asus zenfone 2
