Stock Kernel Optimisation - Sony Xperia T2 Ultra

Hello T2U users, y'all probably wondering what did I mean by the thread title above so I'll get straight to the point nice and simple.
Using a stock kernel sucks, any CPU Tuner will go bonkers adjusting frequencies only to see it revert to stock again. So, while browsing for ways to optimise performance and battery in the Xperia, I came across this guide (now updated to this) on our Interactive governor. While it's on a different phone, the explanations are clear enough to tell anyone that yes, this can be adapted so long as you are rooted.
So read the whole post to give yourself an idea on the functions available for you. I use Kernel Adiutor for this as it seems most reliable.
But first, go into your build.prop files and edit this code:
Code:
ro.min_freq_0=300000
Set the frequency to 300000 (300Mhz) and restart or your phone will always be stuck on a higher frequency.
Also in the Kernel Samepage Merging, turn it off. There isn't much of an impact between battery and performance so this function is useless.
So now head into the CPU section, towards Tunables and add the following values according to the screenshot.

This gave me 50% battery usage over 26 hours, with 5 hours of Screen on Time used by chatting, gaming, and web surfing. Pretty good looking at all the times I've run the battery with less usage.
Anyhoo, I hope these settings are useful for y'all and if anyone has any modifications to these settings please do share it with your results. This may perhaps be the only guide where we control the governor on a deeper level rather than taking it as it is, so let's squeeze as much juice out of this phone as possible.
Update: These are the settings I've settled with, no negligible battery life and not much of an impact on performance. The voltage tables for the SD400 looks to be dynamic so you can't get an exact reading and anyone who looks at it will suggest you buy a new phone instead >.>

Hmm... Hmm.. Ok..
Can we set below 300Mhz?

Yes you can if your kernel has that frequency. Otherwise it will do nothing

Right now I'm using 4.4.3 stock I have used your method make min frqucy to 300 now I have one question is there any way to increase maximum frequency like lolipop upto 1.4 ghs.. Can u help plszz in kikat my frqucy stuck on 1.19 ghs

I'm not a dev so i can't make an overclock kernel.

Gonna try it tho

The new Kernel Auditur refused to saved the config after reboot, so I installed the previous version with hope it will.
A little review, the animation doesn't seem so smooth but I see performance increases, no word for battery life yet.
I have L Speed and FPSUnlock installed, do these things affect this config?

L Speed looks like it has its own governor settings so it will probably overwrite everything. I've no idea what is FPSUnlock nor can I find it so I've no idea. You might want to ask the creators instead.
Edit: I gave it a final update, try it out if you believe your apps can coexist with it.

The running app stats is bonked, so I didn't include them. The doze effect is a bug from the app itself.

[Q] Why is the newest Netarchy Kernel making my Stock Root Rom's FPS WORSE?!

Can anyone help me out?
I'm running stock rooted 2.2 (deodexed) and flahsed over the 4.0 zip... and the scrolling is choppier than all hell. I re flashed the stock kernel, and it was back to being fine again. So, I tried again, with wiping the caches first, and still choppier than all get out when I flashed the kernel.
It's definitely the right kernel, but what the hell am I doing wrong here? Any help would be appreciated.
And, I'll even throw in 5-10 dollrs for someone who can give me an answer that works.
This could be because of the new settings he just changed. Try the download that is 4.0.2 and not 4.0.3, or try overclocking your processor to 1.2GHZ with OC widget or SetCPU.
What kind of screen do you have? If you have a Nova panel, you may need to adjust T2 values to get the best performance. Just my 2 cents.
Ok, so I installed 4.0.2, and it seems to be running better, but still some choppiness on the menu up and down scrolling when "all apps" is opened.
I have no idea how to use SetCPU (noob yep... graphics guy... not a tech guy_, so I took a screen:

I have a Nova, but, I have no idea what T2 panels are and how to adjust them. If you could point me to the right app or direction, that'd be awesome. I'll donate to you as well if it helps.
There's an app floating around here called NovaFreq formerly evoswitch. It allows you to change the panel frequency to improve fps. Everyone gets different results. 450ish was usually the best for me. Basically trial and error. Most haven't needed it with recent kernels though. As for setcpu, the higher the max frequency the better fps performance, but overclocking comes with some risks. Im usually underclocked at 576max / 245min. You can also set profiles to run certain speeds when screen off, charging, etc. Helps a lot with battery life. I would move your max down to 998 or 1113 and min to 245. Ondemand is usually a good scaling setting. Hope this helps.

Wow thanks. I downloaded nova frequency, but just left it at default, and changed the setcpu, bc I was getting random reboots with the overclock. I also set profiles to way lower when the screen is off and the phone is at lower battery percents.
This phone officially runs like it's on crack now. Good stuff.
Guys, PM me ur paypals, and I dont' mind donating a few bucks tomorrow.

LOL bro. Not only did I tell you to use NovaFreq, but I also told you not to use SetCPU. You were getting reboots b/c it was set too high and you don't want to set it below 245 when screen is off. I tried making it with python, but py2exe script got messed up, so i created it with SmallBasic!
Run .exe..it will extract 2 files for you! One is library, and other is the program itself!
EDIT: APPLICATION UPDATED! NOW YOU HAVE TO TYPE HOW MANY VSELS YOU HAVE (3 OR 4) AND TYPE FREQUENCY FOR EACH VSEL AND IT WILL SHOW YOU IDEAL VSEL IN 2mV(+/-) RANGE FOR EACH VSEL!

It seems like a very good idea. Perhaps could you give a (small) range of Vsel values (-/+ 2mV) as an output? That could take into account the random tolerance of each CPU chip, and would be easy to add to the formula =).
Idea for the future: maybe collect a database of user's CPU settings, and calculate average values for users who have no idea what to enter.
Maybe even make an android app instead of a windows exe? I'm willing to help if you like, i have some spare time ^^. PM me to talk about it =)
01:00 Edit: i am making a little app, only the layout right now, to show you. I'm testing it and i'll PM you the app. It's my 2nd app i've made =D
02:23 Edit2: here's the test app for those who want to see: http://d-h.st/IHr
As you'll see, there is 3 editable boxes where you enter the CPU frequencies you'll like, a button to launch the calcul, and 3 non-editable boxes which will (in the future) post the recommended results
Just tried this upper levels seem good but i have never run that low on 300 will have a go thanks

Hmm what version of Android are you running? Froyo or GB?
I've just downloaded the app, it installs correctly and works.
Can you install it or simply can't open lit?
I see it has been downloaded a few times, do other people have a problem too?
12:20 Edit: I suspect it may be because you are running a lower version of android? (lower than 2.3.3). I've changed the minSdkversion of the app. I'm hoping it's that... Otherwise it's those stupid certificates they forced me to create for signing the app --'

Most use it that way, as for me i use to keep the high end freq set and to keep the cpu from cycling and wasting battery
Example.... i like to run at 800, i set to preformance so the phone will not cycle lower then 800 no matter what.

it might be small but little things add up ........instead of bouncing/cycling up and down from low to high freqs cause it is monitoring the processes/work load even when the phone is not in use. Performance takes the cycling/monitoring of the processes out of the equation and just sets the cpu at the high end.
its weird in set CPU it shows it going to 800mhz instead of staying at 1200mhz

It could be, I use "System Tuner Pro" and when I select "Performance" it stays at 800, since 800 is what I have my high end set at.
Btw I am running EL29 GB with Gunslinger so that is also something to consider.
Edit: I tried different high end freq on performance 1k/1.2k/1.4k and they all were setting and not fluxing to other fregs.

You've been using SetCPU and now apparently System Tuner Pro. It's possible you may have EX Tweaks installed as well, ROM Toolbox Pro, or Tegrak.
The thing you want to remember, is that any and all of these utilities can set CPU performance and governors, so you want to be sure that if you are testing with any of them, that ALL of the others are disabled (at least the functions that would control CPU).
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not a kernel issue. You might have Stock, but it may have been modified or not compatible w/OC/UC. Try one of Agat's kernels with confirmed working overclock/underclock (0.4.4) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421
I've been using that with SetCPU and it works well.
Oh - one last point -- do you have any Profiles set up in SetCPU? Because if you do, one of them might be overriding your Performance governor setting on the Main SetCPU screen.

rom is just a touch sluggish, especially waking from screen-off.
haven't noticed any bugs.
questions:
- where can i find "long press back to kill apps"
- is there a possibility of bypassing the setting that MIUI has put in place to prevent landscape SMS?
overall a little slower than the JB version of the rom, but everything works well.

got it working.
landscape mode working well now too
going to try the rest of the features out.
thanks vlad.
edit:
what is surface flinger?
Dude. Any tips for getting the panel to work. Gonna DL all the packages and flash away. Just wandered if I need to do anything in particular. Coming from a flinny JB test build so I'm guessing a full wipe and GApps is needed?

i'll admit it's not that straightforward. so i'll help out.
install the rom only.
boot up.
set up your phone how you want, maybe run it for a couple of minutes, load apps you want to start on boot like setcpu or whatever.
use 4ext control to select the control panel zip to be installed, and make a backup of your steady state when you get everything set up.
when the control panel is done installing, it's not a setting in the phone menu, it's an app on your dashboard that you need to click on.
i think the trick is letting the rom boot and optimize the apps before installing. i got a boot loop when installing both at the same time.
best of luck.

sooooooo.... is we gittin' some JB 4.1.2 or 4.2 luuuvin' soon, strawzies? :fingers-crossed:
Thanks mate. Worked a treat. Now rocking 2.11.23 with landscape sms
As a first impression for anyone who cares, I came from flinnys test 129. Straight away I notice better battery. Its more responsive even with the cpu set lower on min. Not seen any crazy text stuff which I got from time to time previously.
Overall its the same smooth miui that I remember.
Thanks guys

its quite usable on my end. im thinking about making this my dd.
you wont need 230mb free ram if you wont be doing much multitasking anyway.
Its usable but very slow. I hope miui based on jb improve the situation.

JUST TRY THIS APP ONCE...
I have some problems.
1. I am on stock ROM and Kernel..
In all mode, can not set CPU frequency more then 1.2GHz and less then 200MHz. Is this due to my phone kernel limitation?
2. I have also installed some power saving apps like Lux brightness, Greenify....
Is this app will kill all these app?
Please reply me. I am noob to app these

1. Dude stock ROM kernel means are u rooted? I dont think so.. If so u need a OC kernel..
2. If apps r trying to wakeup i wont allow them to stay long.. I think LUX has no issue. Greenify i hav to check and let u know.

Ya change to ICS OC kernel ur stock kernel doesnt support OC.... Try Dorimanx kernel its OCd upto 1600 Mhz.. If u more concerned abt battery dont OC... Thx to the app i m getting 4+ hrs of screen on time...
Downloaded this for my nexus 4 and the idea of this app is pretty cool just open app and tap on 1 of the battery or power modes BUT i have a problem with this app which im not sure is normal or can be fixed, when i choose 1 of the power options e.g performance and i then want to switch to powersave or standby it does not change, i can tap on it and it will say powersave on but u can see on cpu its still on performance so basically have to reboot everytime i want to switch which obvioisly is very annoying
Question regarding Defence Feature
I am new to this app but eager to learn more about it and to increase it's effectiveness..
I am puzzled a bit about the Defence feature...
Does this feature identify apps that are using excess power so that one can disable them?
Any other uses for this feature?
thanks
