Well, I think my phone may have bricked. I booted to recovery, wiped, flashed the latest PureNexus (hate dirty flashes) and restarted. Now my screen looks like a TV without an antenna, multicolored static and some flickering. I can't get the phone to even power down. I hold Power + Vol Down and the phone just powers off and right back on. Any suggestions?
EDIT
Bit of an update. It would appear even with the static on the screen that it's powered on and sitting at the initial Android setup screen. When I hit the power button you hear the click sound and the screen goes off. So, with that update, what could be going on?

It's probably a display issue. You should try and get it replaced.

I was rooted with CM10.1.0 and was casually using the phone until it randomly turned off. I turned it back on and the only thing that happened was the "Galaxy SIII" screen flashed and turned off again. I popped out the battery multiple times to be welcomed with the same problem again. I can't boot into Download or Recovery at all. Anyone know how to fix this? (btw im on AT&T SGH-i747)
Try another battery.

Please don't provide false or miss leading information.
To OP. Fully charge your battery or use another one if its corrupt.
Try booting up into both recovery or download mode using the proper combination.
Use this guide to get your phone fully working again.

In some instance (very rare) your phones hardware can malfunction, but seeing how it still boots up I doubt its that's.
Follow my guide and you should be fine.

But it boots up.
As long as a phone is able to boot up its fine.
Like I said please do a little more reading and research and don't spread false information.

What about with it plugged into the charger and try to get to download mode. I thought I bricked my s2, took the battery out but it stayed on. Thought it was possesd bit it was plugged in to USB.
Can't hurt to try.
Definitely recommend download mode with cable plugged in to computer. Are you sure recovery doesn't work while plugged in to power?

Yep. It just loops on the splash screen. I'll try charging it to full and repeating your solutions. (It died off at 80%, very strange). Thanks for your replies though!
Ok guys, seems that my issue isnt the phone being bricked. I left the battery out all night and popped it in the next morning. CM loaded just fine. However after about 10 seconds of it loading, the power menu flashed, i clicked cancel, and then it immediately shut down again, and the usual problem continued. Any thoughts? (btw the phone died at 80% battery the first shut down it had, right now it should have been nearly 100% after charging) Also, connecting it via USB doesn't help at all. Sometimes the blue recovery words flash when i try to boot into recovery, but nothing happens after that.

It could be a bad battery. Might also be the battery contact points. Worse case is something is wrong with power channels on the Mobo. If it is the last then you will have to warranty the phone if you're still covered. I would borrow a battery first to rule out whether or not it is the battery itself.

The power button seems to operate normally, but that could also be one of the things that are causing problems. Once i find someone nearby with an S3 battery i'll see if it's actually a battery problem (most likely the case).
I'd thought i'd mention this as well, whenever i pop in the battery, the phone vibrates and tries to turn on, but doesnt actually do it. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? power button maybe, but battery?
If the battery out all night boots past the splash screen maybe you could, if you haven't, leaving it out and first thing try download mode. I've been in bad spots but this pretty crappy. Probably to technical for me but Good luck. Let us know how you do if none of the posts help.
Found the problem. The power button is always acting as if it's being pushed down when it actually isnt. The phone starts up perfectly when i hold the phone horizontally with the power button facing down. then when i put it back into portrait mode, the power menu flashes, and its turns off. any knowledge on how to fix this then?

Um I'd say taking apart the phone or mailing back for warranty even try taking it to an att store.. Its hardware and not software so they should replace it

Warranty it. Mess witht power button some more. Sometimes it will get unstuck.
I powered off my phone this morning and left it in a hot car for about 6 1/2 hours, and when I tried to turn it back on, no dice. The LG logo comes up for a split second and thats it. I can tell the screen is still on, it's just black. No luck booting into recovery. It is rooted, and I honestly don't know what recovery I installed, probably twrp. Any advice before I take it to best buy or sprint?

Are you sure it's turning off? Press and hold the power button for 20+sec. Then see if it'll boot, or recovery

Fixed using teeny bin/LGNPST after doing some research. I love the internet, I'm not smart enough to figure this stuff out on my own.
While using my phone tonight, the battery was really low and the phone died. I plugged it into my charger and tried turning it back on after a few minutes. Unfortunately, the phone didn't start. It simply showed the CyanogenMod boot animation and nothing happened. I tried pulling the battery and turning the phone back on, but the same thing happened. I'm running CyangenMod 10.1, specifically cm-10.1-20130121-EXPERIMENTAL-toro-M1. I've been running this build for months now and have never had this problem before. I was using my phone in the hot tub shortly before this happened and am wondering if it got wet and damaged. I checked the water sensor, but it was not set off - there are still little red X's on the sticker.
Thankfully, it still lets me boot into the bootloader by holding the power button while holding volume up + volume down. I tried going into the recovery menu and doing a factory reset, but it didn't work - it still gets stuck at the boot animation. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Thanks!

I did a complete factory restore using this tutorial and got my phone to turn back on, but now the screen won't stay stay off... It keeps waking up after a few seconds.
Hello,
I have had a problem with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus since this morning.
I turned it off last night, and everything was normal up until then.
I left it charding, and when I booted my phone this morning, but after the google logo the screen went black, like the phone is totally off.
However, the phone is on! It gives notification sounds, and I can locate and ring it via Android Device Manager.
Does anyone know what to do? Help would be greatly appreciated.
Daan
Also,
Also, I can still access the internal storage just fine by connecting the device to a pc.
Do you still see the Google logo on reboots?
Can you get the bootloader to display (while powered off, hold volume up + volume down + power button)?

Yes, and yes. Both work without a problem.
EDIT: Also, going into recovery mode gives the same result as normal boot... Google logo and then nothing...
SO...
It works again!
BUT..
I don't have a solution, I was trying to use android screen monitor to check if that works.. and I booted the phone, came past the google logo... And saw the Cyanogen boot animation!
It completely works again, now, but I'm still worried that it might happen again...
Any ideas?

Alright, done.
If I encounter the problem again I'll post it here.
I'm on Liquid Smooth v2.1, Android 4.2.2. No custom kernel, just whatever it comes with. Been running fine for months.
This morning I dropped my phone in my car (a few inches drop) and it went into a bootloop. It eventually booted into Android and I backed up all my apps and texts to my SD card. But afterwards it went into another bootloop and now its stuck there. It will start booting, and then restart (most of the time before the boot animation even comes up). I need to get into recovery so I can restore an older Nandroid or maybe try wiping the cache. I have tried using power/volumeup/home, but it bootloops by the time recovery is starting up. ADB on my computer will not pick up the phone. Sometimes for a few seconds it will show up, but it has an "offline" next to it and by the time I enter "adb reboot recovery" it says no device found.
If I take out the battery for 30 seconds, it makes it pretty far into the boot.
What steps should I take next? I know ODIN is last resort, but I'd prefer not to go there. Thanks guys.
I have a similar problem I think the power button may be the issue, when it's boring up tap on the power button with your bail as you would on a table. Also try to put your sideways with power button down that may help.

Wow. That sounds like a possibility. Dropped from my lap to my cupholder, could've landed on the button. I'll try it in a bit.

I was able to get it to boot for a few seconds, and the power menu kept on coming up until it died. Does the phone turn off if you hold down the power button for a long time? Seems like I gotta get that fixed. I'll try the sideways suggestion in a bit.
Yeah, if you hold power and never let go, it'll reboot over and over. It's intentionally like that so if you ever have the system lock up you can still do a kind of hard reset. (Better than a battery pull, though that can still be necessary if you want it to just turn off)

That's what I thought. Anyone know the difficulty of repairing this myself? Or a cost estimate? Holding the button at an angle seems to make it work for a bit. Sideways didn't help.
I've heard there's some YouTube vids that may help. I've seen a few people say they were able to do it themselves.

Anyone know if I were to remove the power button completely, would the phone work without it? I don't really need it, and removing it would make the phone usable. Just wanna make sure the phone doesn't run a check or something. I'll order a new power button in the spare time and install it later.

it'll prolly work but if phone shuts off not sure if you will be able to turn it back on without a power button, what I did for the time being is get the phone of and basically tap on the side of the phone with the power button towards the floor kind of like trying to get gravity to push the power swith inside to be back to the normal position. Then don't touch the power button, there are apps in the play store that can function as your power button.

Yeah, I watched a YouTube video and he fixed it like that. So I basically hammered the button as hard as I could with my nail for a minute straight and now it doesn't bother me anymore until you press it. I can live without the power button, but I'm probably going to have to remove/replace it since I can't risk bumping into the button on accident. Thanks for the help though!
Does anyone know of a method to turn the phone on without the power button? I know on my Nexus One you could Insert the battery while it was charging to force a reboot.
Afaik you'll just have to restart every time till it's fixed.
