G4 -> N5X 32GB Am I Doing a mistake? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Note: im in love with G4 but for me Android is = modding. That's why im considering N5X.. i feel like i made a huge mistake buying G4 and hoping for development (i know there is something but nothing that good to make me leave stock sw) ...
Would you do the same or should I just sell G4 and wait something? I have a Lumia 625 to play with in the meanwhile..
I would like 6p but too expensive and too big.. G4 size is my limit..

My last phone was the G4. If you want to tweak/mod than the 5X is by far the way to go. The display on the 5X looks much nicer (better color calibrated) than the G4, even with the G4 having the higher resolution. About the only thing on the G4 that is better (imo) is that the speaker sounds fuller and gets a little bit louder than the speaker on the 5X. Literally everything else on the 5X is better

Really 2 points scare me :
1GB Less Ram
Battery, i fear it will be not that good on my G4.. i can cover a fullday usage and sometimes when i use less the phone even 1 Day and Half.. mmm
I think Camera in some circumstances is better on G4 tho.. and the display sound like better on G4 aswell, watching around reviews and others.. but yeah, the main point is modding/tweak that too shy in G4 Community

I've had zero problems with 2gb RAM. I don't obsess over it though like many here do. I just use my phone the way I want and it works perfectly.
The camera on the 5X is as good as the G4 as far as quality and even better than the G4 in low light. Earlier I should have said that. The 5X camera is slower to load though, albeit milliseconds.
The battery life on the 5X is better than the G4, by my usage/guesstimate ~15% better.
The development on the 5X compared to the G4, well as you said and well know, is king.

I never even come close to filling up 2GB of RAM on this device, even with ZRAM disabled.
The G4 camera might focus faster but it's agreed that the Sony sensor in this camera is top notch and is capable of producing fantastic photos.

My last phone was also a G4. The G4 UI i don't like it. Now i am happy with my Nexus 5x. I love vanilla andoid and the nexus

[Q] (HELP) Thinking buy the G3 32/3GB

hi all, i have some questions before buying this phone...
before i start: i have the G2 Mini, some users maybe shame on me because display have poor quality...but, for saying my experience: is a big phone, i like it a lot, have a exelent 8MP camera, sound quality are amazing too, battery life is exelent, with 2/3 days of use!
i have the Z Ultra too, about 2 months but i'm not very satisfied with it: camera was not a big deal, no flash, doesnt have sound quality and other softwares issues!! (in my life i had 3/4 sony's and to say: Sony never do a great job with camera, too much grain, colors are not acurate, i never buy sony again i swear! LG i love yooou!!)
so, i think i will sell it and i am intressed to buy the G3 32GB and 3GB RAM model (D855) but i want to know from you owners of G3:
1st: the screen are too much saturated?
2nd: the halo's around the text's and other things make you guys annoying? (i see a lot of reviews on youtube but maybe 2/3 say that about the screen so, i think is more a personal choise!)
3rd: in daylight, can you see the things on screen well? or to say: sunlight brightness is good or poor?!
4th: What score are you having in Antutu 5.7? with stock rom with or out of bloatware? (because i see a lot of videos in antutu 5.0 give 38k or less but i know antutu rise the score in every update, and with my Sony on Snapdragon 800, stock but without bloatware and other things i get 42k and i want to have around the same with G3 in stock, i dont like custumized rom's too.)
5th: have the speaker doing a good job? i mean, have quality? and with earphones/headphones? any distorcion or bass loss? i'm an audiophile so i like good quality of sound and a great balance with voice and bass!
6th and last: the GPS works fine? i have some troubles with my G2 Mini Snapdragon 400, sometimes find and fix in less than 2 minutes, other times have to wait more than 5/6 minutes! (in my z ultra is in less tha 20 seconds and i have exelent GPS locking and precision!)
Thank U for any response you can do with your experience...and sorry for my bad english!

Hi, I'm a new G3 user, but I hope my comment helps. From your requirements, you're a user who's very particular in hardware quality.
1. The screen looks just fine to me, I mean its true HD-IPS display we're talking bout and LG does have built in color adjustment feature. Over sharpening value is what user dislike and it can be fixed.
2. UI is not something to worry bout, you always have choices with custom roms or themes.
3. I don't have opinion on screen under day light.
4. Antutu benchmark will be range between 38k to 43k depending on running processes. I have score of 42k.
5. The speaker and earphone are pretty normal (can't be compared to devices like htc m8 of course, but definitely better than Xperia Z Ultra)
6. Based on people's report, Lollipop roms seem to have issue over GPS. Through my little experience of using GPS I find it normal.
I am an G2 and G3 owner, so you can sense that I like LG smartphones.
LG G3 is an excellent smart phone in every detail, so here we are commenting on-line reviews that are often concentrated on finding any kind of weak points which are usually unnoticeable in the everyday usage.
Since you are thinking of buying one, you should consider battery consumption and phone size. Battery acts quite well, and it will last a day easy with a moderate use, and consumption on stand-by is unbelievably low. Still, LG G2 was around 20% better with the same capacity battery. Screen can be to much to handle with one hand if your hands are small, but on the other hand you will get a tablet feel with 5.5" screen.
Putting buttons at the back of the phone is the best idea ever It is much easier to use it that way, and now I have issues with other phones.
1. The screen definitely isn't over-saturated
2. No issues with holo at all.
3. LG is well known for its screens. They would never put bad screen in their flagship phone. Something like that just doesn't have any sense
4. Haven't tried it.
5. Speaker is just excellent. I can't compare it with HTC phones, but sound is noticeably better then on G2. Regarding quality of sound, it is really good, even for audiophiles. Stock earphones (quadbeat2) are quite well made, with a little bit more extended trebles for my taste. I'm using Sennheiser CX 150 with my G3 also, and they are a little bit better with bass.
6.No issues with GPS here, and also no issues at all with G2
Finally, G3 is an 2014. smartphone, and is still considered to be among the best 2015. phones (3rd place at Androidcentral)

The others chimed in perfectly! I work outside and the screen works well, especially compared to M7,M8, Motox 1st&2nd.
The over sharpening on the screen may not be an issue for most, or even noticeable to you. But I find it gross, and uncomfortable on the eyes, probably because I have an eye astigmatism. Its easily fixed with a sharpening mod. The imageprep mod deals with root, twrp, and sharpening!
thanks all, i see you like it! im using z ultra btw so 5.5 is way smaller than 6.4 of ultra! i will buy my g3 next moday. thanks

Should i switch from s6?

I am on the fence to get the G4. I love LG because I owned the G2 for the longest time and loved it. I dont like the G4 size (even compared to the s6 or g2).
I love the specs of the s6, but feel as if the G4 doesnt stack up.
I do love the fact I'd be able to root and flash roms without worry of samsung knox.
What are your guy's take?
Stick with the S6.
I have a S6 and my G4 comes today so I will let you know. I've had the G2 and G3 and the only reason I moved on was because the screen broke on the G2 and my headphone jack broke on the G3. Both of those happened from me being clumsy so it's not the phone's fault. I had a note 4 and hated the lag when opening recents menu or opening dialer/answering calls. Got a S6 and I keep experiencing lag with it as well. I'm very excited about going back to LG.
I had a few G3s (16GB models) and they all lagged like hell. I'm finding the S6 pretty smooth, aside from the occasional stutter in Chrome.
Took ownership of a brown leather G4 today and I'm not that smitten with it so far. Camera doesn't seem much better than the S6 at all - in fact it seems worse in many instances, and my camera sometimes shows a pink tint in the middle which the S6 doesn't (under the same scenes).
Overall I don't think it feels anywhere near as premium as the S6, nor as nice in the hand. The glossy plastic around the edges is disappointing as it will pick up scratches and scuffs easily and overall I just don't feel like I enjoy the size and shape of it like I do the S6. The screen also seems to have a wildly inaccurate white balance.
I like that I can stick an SD card in and that it has a replaceable battery but other than that I'm going to struggle to justify NOT taking this back to the store. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest as I've read really good reviews from some critics whose opinions I trust.
Will see what tomorrow brings but personally I'd say hold off for now, especially if you already have an S6.
If you guys already have an S6 and you still want to buy a G4 as well you have too much money.

No, I've had issues with all my s6 warranty replacements. So T-Mobile is letting me jump again. So im deciding if i should or hold out.
I used jump to go from the s6edge to the g4 mainly due to the battery life on the s6. Its God awful. Plus, i nuts some of the lg features. The g2 was the best phone I've ever had.

I agree. The g2 was amazing! Great form factor, perfect screen size. Large battery
At the same time I do want a nicer premium device.
I just wished the g4 had the 810.. 808 doesn't seem impressive. If the G flex 2 had the 810 then why couldnt they tweak an 810 to perform better like they did 808?

Hardware limitations > software tweaking.
I'm on the same boat, have the S6 but considering the G4.
I know without question the S6 is the better phone. My only gripe with it is battery life. Battery life is abysmal, and if the G4 is a significant improvement then I'm all for swapping out to the G4.
I'm just holding off and waiting for what the feedback is on the T Mobile branded G4... But I have a feeling the abysmal battery life on all current flagship is Android 5.0.2. Which even the Nexus 6 suffered from bad battery life before it was updated to 5.1
Should I eat cupcakes or donuts?
If S6 a better phone ....stick it and stop trolling here. S6 like a tiny iphone 6 xD Life's Good.

I have an S6 (4 days old) and now I have the G4 (leather). I would stick with the S6 at least that is my opinion after half a day with the G4. The G4 may grow on me, but most likely not enough to keep it over the S6. Biggest factor for my preference of the S6 is build and looks. I will probably end up keeping both though, not sure yet.
Price isnt a factor. Almost the same price.
64GB S6 memorial day sale plus 50$ mail in rebate = 629.99
Leather G4 = 599.00
----
Both cameras are good. I prefer that when I quick open the camera on the S6, it doesn't auto snap a photo. That drives me nuts on the G4 and I can't find a way to turn it off.
I prefer the fingerprint reader wake over knock code or knock on wake. It's just better.
Screens are both good, but brightness and sharpness are better on the S6. I like Amoled vibrance. Screen size is nice on the G4 and I'm sure many people out there will prefer it.
I have 64 gb of storage on the S6 and I prefer internal storage over removable storage. Internal is faster. All my media and files are in the cloud so I don't need over 64GB. I still think SD is a nice bonus, but I would prefer a higher internal storage amount on the G4 over SD. I can see why sappable storage may attract others though. I just don't need it.
Battery life has been good for me on the S6. I average 4-5hrs SOT. Regardless of the S6's performance, the G4 comes with 2 swappable batteries and has a huge edge on the S6 in the battery department. This is the biggest positive for me regarding the G4.
Touchwiz beats LG's software in this instance. It's just smoother and better looking with more funtional features. Both phones software have occasional stutters, but LG has far more. It could be the 808 and the Exynos at play here, but I doubt it. That's not to say that some things arent better on the G4 (camera app), they are. Just not enough to sway my opinion.
No quick charger in the box for the G4 is silly. I don't understand that decision.

I enjoy flashing roms, double tap to wake and rear buttons. And with expandable storage would be lovely! Just wonder if some things are worth the trade offs.
Will wait for more reviews and feedback.
It's all relative and a matter of personal preferences. Just choose what you think you want.
depends on why you want to switch

You can turn the picture feature off and just double tap to bring up camera.
Fingerprint readers (from S5 at least) are horrible as you have to do it just right and it takes a little while
Weird, I've noticed the bright/sharpness is better on the G4. Just a matter of personal experience and opinion I guess.
Should never rely on cloud storage. Look how well that has worked out for Apple. The G4 can support up to 2TB of storage (even though the largest SD card is only 1/2 a TB). I would never trust non-removable storage, personal reasons.
Nothing to counterpart here (batteries)
I've heard the new Touchwiz has been better than the previous ones. I will find that out tomorrow when my wife gets her S6 setup. I personally am tired of it coming from several Sammy's. I believe the biggest issues is Lollipop issues messing with the phones rather than each UI. Nothing an update can't fix
Meh, that's nothing major.

Changing that camera setting made the double tap camera feature much better. Is there any way I can activate with double tap camera from the homescreen? I've een playing with the camera in low light for a few hours now, and the G4 has proven to be much better in auto mode than the S6. I'm impressed.
The S5's finger print reader was terrible, as is the reader on my Note 4. The S6's reader is flawless for me.
You can't really compare brightness/sharpness if you don't currently have an S6 or had an S6 as you mentioned. (See bold) The S6 has a considerably higher brightness. That isn't opnion, it's fact and I believe that almost every flagship is brighter than the G4. Sharpeness is negligible though. Both screens are sharp.
When I was referring to the cloud = Cloud would be Play movies, Netflix, Google Play streaming, Hulu etc. Relying on those for media consumption doesn't seem risky to me. I save pictures with Google Photo's and One drive. Seems redundant enough to keep my pictures safe.
Everything is dependant on the user's needs and perception like other users have stated. I can see why someone would choose either phone depending on needs. The S6 just fits my wants/needs better. My oldest kid likes the G4 though, so It won't be going back to TMO now. We can retire his G3 instead.
I don't know if updates will fix everything with the G4. Updates never fixed the G3's stuttering (forour unit at least).
True, not having the Quick charger isn't a big deal especially if you already have a few laying around. I believe we have 4 or 5 of them in our house. Plus the spare battery really makes it useless. Still, I would have liked to have another anyway
Can you tell me if your G4 has a pinkish hue in the middle when you use the camera in low light with certain backgrounds? Seems more noticeable on grey or white backgrounds, and is not noticeable at all in normal light.

So you found the change setting? I'm not sure about the home setting. I currently don't have the phone until Monday (I've researched/read reviews about the phone and played with it in the store)
If they finally fixed the fingerprint issue, that's great! Just from watching the videos online I see you had to sorta long press the finger, rather than a few knocks on the scree. All a matter of personal preference which you like for this
I can compare this by Monday. Wife will activate her S6 later today and I'll be able to come back with this then! Do you have it auto-brightness or all the way up for both when you compared? In the store, the G4's seemed a tad better. I've seen the outside test (from numerous videos) when it's bright outside, the G4's was more superior being able to see better.
Ahh OK, miscommunication there! I still just prefer external SD. Can take out phone, swap between phones, tablets, computer etc rather than physically having to hook up and transfer/view.
I agree, everything is a matter of personal preference on these. I meant no harm or foul with you was just throwing my two cents back to your points! I will be able to properly tell by Monday the pros/cons of daily usage and everything between the two. I've always been a Sammy guy, this will be my first phone in years that's not them. I like to have BL's unlocked and being on Verizon, I have a 99.99% change this will happen on the G4 (as G3 was within a couple months) than I EVER will on the S6. One thing I might take some time getting used to is no physical "home" button as well as the other symbols for recents/back.

Is the G4 a huge step up from G2?

I know the resolution is way higher, but at 1080 on the G2 I don't think I'd appreciate the increase. I don't use very intensive apps, so the extra power there isn't too needed. How about the camera? Is it a big big step up? I wouldn't use Raw at all for Photoshop or anything, but i appreciate the ability to take fast good looking photos. What draws me to the G4 is wireless charging and probability of more development and larger assortment of aftermarket accessories. I doubt the G2 will see much more from the custom scene. The only con of the G4 is it's so damn big. The G2 was the perfect size for me when I had one. It was easily usable one handed. I haven't used the G4 extensively, but hands on at TMo made it feel really really really big. I already broke my X '14 doing hand gymnastics with my phone. Thanks
I still have a G2 and it is still an excellent phone. With the latest lollipop update the G2 runs smooth. Battery life is better on the G2, but the G4 gets a free extra battery which equals out that playing field.
The G4 is noticeably faster in all areas, but not by game changing amounts. Camera is the biggest upgrade by far. No real comparison there.
I don't see a "need" to upgrade from the G2. Just the desire to try the newest gadgets has me upgrading every few months.

Pros
Faster
Screen image quality
Louder and clearer loudspeaker
Front and rear camera
Expandable storage
Leather back
Cons
Battery life, easily get an extra 12 hours with my daily use
Wireless Storage disappeared
Edges of the phone feel cheap, specially the rough ports on the bottom.
Overall it was an upgrade that is good, but not great. A phone with this much power and screen size would match well with a 5000mAh or greater battery.
I would have stayed with my G2 if I hadn't broken the screen.
G2 was one of the best phones ever created
But seriously, other 1 or 2 annoyances (speaker) G2 was a beast of a phone
I had the G2 and had to root it to really like it. I've had the G4 for a few days and for the first time I won't be rooting. The phone is great as is. My only complaint is the wireless charging but it looks like that can be solved for 8 dollars.

I don't know about you, but my G2's screen kept overheating, and every time it overheats, my knock on does not work and the screen becomes unresponsive. This is just with the screen being on, and not gaming - mostly just reading forums and watching youtube. One of the big things is that the 808 processor isn't supposed to get hot, so even if it runs "slower" than the Galaxy, it's much smoother on a day to day basis for real usage. No hot screen = no screen issues, I hope.
Dual window is very nice. You can watch youtube while browsing forums for max trollin when you're bored. Plugging in the earphones and having it automatically launch into a music app (or whatever app you choose) is also nice. 1440P vs 1080P resolution - which I wasn't really sure of the difference until I watched some videos on youtube that explains the difference.. wow, just wow.
The replaceable battery, which I did not care for before, comes in extremely handy. It's like having instant-charge from 0% to 100%. No more sitting around running for wall chargers. However, if you do come to that point, you have QC 2.0 which charges just slightly quicker than the G2's QC 1.0. People often think QC 2.0 is supposed to be fast as hell, and in comparison to standard charging - yes. QC 1.0 wasn't THAT bad, but QC 2.0 is definitely an improvement.
The camera itself is like no other. The G2's camera was good, but the G4.. wow, just wow. I've taken so many more pictures in the past week with the G4 than I have ever with the G2. The night pics that comes out of the G4 makes me wonder if it really came from a phone camera.
I, too, was afraid of the phone size when I heard it's a 5.5" that's bigger than the G3. That was one of the main reasons why I never even considered the G3 - because of its size. When I saw videos that the phone curves for better aerodynamics/handling/ergo, I felt like the size wouldn't matter as much. It's true that it barely fits into my pants, but the 5.5" screen is AWESOME when it comes to pictures/picture editing on the fly/videos, etc etc.
With the free SD card and the extra battery, the $600 price tag didn't seem as steep.
Hope this helps you decide.

Pros
Faster
Screen image quality
Louder and clearer loudspeaker
Front and rear camera
Expandable storage
Leather back
Cons
Battery life, easily get an extra 12 hours with my daily use
Wireless Storage disappeared
Edges of the phone feel cheap, specially the rough ports on the bottom.
Overall it was an upgrade that is good, but not great. A phone with this much power and screen size would match well with a 5000mAh or greater battery.

and what phone has a battery that big? every phone would benefit from such a battery.
Not really.

Any points you'd like to give to validate that answer? I've looked at your other posts and 75% of them are bashing the G4. Not sure if I trust your opinion. Seems like a lot of negativity with no positive points even though news sources rate the G4 neck in neck with the S6. Your posts are all one sided "G4 suckz, S6 wins all the phones..."

I think it was by accident that his handle ends with 's6', right?

If you read all my posts you should have read that the g4 feels way too cheap for a 2015 flagship device that costs $500+. The ui has no improvements, the screen is nice, battery life is good too but on the other hand, the g2 has a really nice screen as well and also great battery life. I prefer the built quality of the g2. Cannot stand those bezels of the g4. Also the phone doesn't feel any snappier, although in paper it is supposed to be a beast. The phone has potential, but it needs root and devs to work on it. By the time that happens, 6 months will have passed. Also if you have already made up your mind, no point creating a thread.

It 'feels cheap'? We are comparing the G2 to G4 still?
It isn't much faster than the G2? Do you actually have a G4?
I'm confused.

Sister has the g2. I have the g4 and s6 now. maybe faster is not the exact term, but I mean snappier. The g2 feels snappier. Don't ask me why, but it does. Get one yourself and see what I am talking about. And yes the g4 feels cheaper than the g2. The g2 has slimmer bezels, some metal on the side, while the g4 is pure plastic on the sides.

I don't know guys. I've spent hours in the T-mobile store playing with the G4 and I fear it's just too damn big I've lost two phone now due to drops from hand gymnastics and it would be fiscally irresponsible to risk another. I am more than likely going to purchase an S6 today. Or maybe a G2 and wait for the Nexus 5 2015 based on the G4 aaarrrghhhhhhh. Damn phone decisions...

G4 sides are metal so you clearly don't now what you are talking about! I don't think you even seen a g4 in person.

Recently upgraded from G2 to G4. I'm one of the few that doesn't rely on streaming websites for music so my phone was almost always maxxed out due to my music. I upgraded because this had an expandable sd card slot. Now for the rest:
It is noticeably bigger and takes a bit of time to get used too, especially the keyboard due to its location and how the phone is balanced. I do like the curved screen, it feels... a bit more natural. The phones a bit harder to navigate one handed, but the G2 wasn't super easy either. The camera is noticeably better, and hopefully will get even better once xdabbeb comes around to the G4 if he/she does. I ran xdabbeb's rom on my g2. My G2 was a bit snappier but this was due to running a custom rom. I feel like the G4 will beat the G2 in this once it gets rooted and custom roms come out. I feel like alot of the sluggish behaviors are due to the carrier's bloatware and other stuff. Build quality is nice imo, better than the G2 but that's usually just personal preference.
tl;dr -- it was a worthy upgrade for me, due to camera and expandable sd card slot. minor hinderances are the size and lack of root and custom rom support but this can be learned, and dealt with over time.
Hope this helps.
G2 i still better...unfortunately for me . I bought the G4 (replaced my G3 that replaced my G2). When i bought the G3 i wanted to sell it the next day and buy a G2 again but i learned to live with it. Now i have the same thoughts for the G4. It's a Downward Spiral for LG. They made one great phone the G2.

Anyone moved from LG G3 to Oneplus 3?

Seeking opinions from those that moved from LG G3 to OnePlus 3. Such as battery life, display etc.I know the camera will not be as good but then I am running a aosp ROM so am used to the lesser camera.
Thanks

I'll share my opinions later this week If you can hold on for a bit mate. Going from G3 to G5 to OP3
Looking at specs battery life should be better, general use should be better (Better processor + more ram) but display may not be as good.
Yeah i moved. Beetter in every way including display and battery.
Downsides are no fm radio, non removeble battery and on ir.
Hi friends,
I just bought the Oneplus 3 as well. But I'm still keeping my LG G3 as I'm doimg some development work on it still (it's the D858HK variant, dual SIM).
Same here. I Have a d855 (passed to the wife) and i got my op3 last week.
I had an LG G3. The OP3 is faster, display is nicer, and battery is better for me on 3.2.2. Dash charging is a nice perk.
The WiFi, LTE, and Bluetooth radios are all weak in AT&T for me. Worse with their cover.
GPS buggy for me above 3.2.2.
Great for the price, but not the flagship killer I thought it was.
I will stay where I'm at for now because I can customize so much with the OP3.
But I have LG V20 envy.

Wow on my g3 i found wifi bad, LTE crap. On my op3 i dont find these issues at all. Iam located in The Netherlands. Perhaps the models Make a big dif.
I'm coming from the G4, and the differences in most areas of daily use are huge. Speed increase is VERY noticeable. I'm finding the camera quite comparable TBH. It's definitely faster to launch, and the shutter doesn't suffer from multi-second delays like the G4 did for me on a regular basis. I use manual mode a lot, but even the auto has been very nice on the OP3.
If you were one to swap batteries, you'll miss that aspect, but Dash charging is SO fast on this phone, it's crazy. I've stopped overnight charging entirely, and now just top up during the day. I can get 50-60% over breakfast, for example.
The biggest thing I miss is the microSD card. I had 128GB added, and used it as the default storage for all my photos/videos. Kept the internal memory pretty clean. But that's okay. I can live with 64GB so far - and I just got my Type C USB OTG adapter from Amazon this morning. Tested it with my 64GB flash drive, and it works like a charm. So I can adjust and adapt a little.
If you're into VR (Cardboard), the G3's 2k screen will look better there. I haven't tested the OP3 in my ViewMaster yet. But regardless, 1080p, pentile or not, won't look as good in VR. But in regular daily use, I find the display to be nicer than my G4 in almost every visible way. You will end up with the same effective PPI as an iPhone # Plus though - at 326PPI effective - that's taking the Pentile arrangement into consideration. So you'll have to settle for "as good" as an iPhone. LOL
Honestly though, the display is great. The performance is great. The fingerprint sensor is very fast. The RAM management has gotten to be very good. I've quit closing apps after I'm done like I did on the G4. I don't need to with this. Probably the most frustrating thing so far has been trying to find a good tempered glass screen protector. There are a couple that aren't bad, but it's very hard to find one that covers the whole screen without some sort of compromise. Even the official OnePlus curved one mysteriously cuts off just under a millimeter of the sides. It remains the only full adhesion option though. All others are just with adhesive under the frames, and most don't play well with a lot of cases because of that.
Hope that helps!
Well. I pass from G3 to zenfone 2 (lost my G3) and then to OP3. Way better in almost all aspects (much better radio reception, better waifi, way way fast, worst camera and worst display). I like back buttons of G3 also but it's ok. Anyway, with OP3 more than happy and much better than G3

After using G6 for a month, I am back on G5: A short comparison...

I have used a G5 for the most part of this year. Then I upgraded to V20 for a brief period (mostly for the free projector and T-mobile promotion ). V20 was a great device, but was too big for me. Then I upgraded to G6. While it was a nice phone for average consumers, I felt like I have downgraded compared to G5 in many aspects. So, after using it for a month I am back to my good old G5! I am just gonna list my reasons below.
1. Camera: No real improvement in camera performance. Just some more megapixels in the wide angle one. I use the wide angle camera a lot, so it was a good thing, but not that important. G6 is using phase detection autofocus, compared to the laser in G5. While this is good in some situation, G5 takes much better macro-mode pictures due to laser focus.
2. Infra-red: Gone. How come they decided to remove a feature, rather than upgrading?
3. Display: G6 got a nice display, but this 2:1 aspect ratio is simply wasted real estate on top and bottom. At least on V20 the extra space was used for something useful (the second display)
4. Notification LED: A big minus. Always-on-display is good, but a LED is a lot more functional and visible. The AOD also takes a toll on the battery. Despite larger battery in G6, on my usage level the battery performance was no better than G5.
5. Removable battery: I was a big fan of the samsung note series until they ditched the removable battery in note5. Since then I used all the LG flagships, because they kept the battery removable. I hope they keep the removable battery in V30.
6. Root-ability: As of now, G6 is not rootable, and I believe there is a good chance that it will never get root. Performance improvement in SD821 is unnoticeable compared to SD820, specially when I can use a custom kernel in G5 to suit my preference.
With G6, LG basically made an eye-candy targeting a consumer base who buys Samsung and apple for the flashy looking phones. For me a phone is about functionality, not a fashion statement. While the glossy look of G6 is aesthetically pleasing, the trade-off in functionality was simply not for me. I really do hope that LG doesn't target the same market for V30. In that case G5 might as well be my last LG phone. But my G5 is going strong with zero issues, and I believe it will serve a good long time.
Agree with you on most counts. I've had every LG "G" phone since G2 and like you, V20 due to the good promotion on price and minibeam projector. V20 I too found was too big, though that quad-DAC really does make a difference. Audio is superb on it. Just got G6 and on my first week of usage. I like it so far and in hand, it feels great, as it feels like a "candybar" again, not the overly wide feeling where your hands feel stretched with G3, G4, and V20. G5 was a nice sized phone with tons of features and a seriously underrated phone. I will say this, performance on G5 and V20 was topnotch at the beginning but they too underwent the typical Android slowdown after a few weeks of use. I'm talking programs that crawl, camera super slow to open, general navigation slow, and twitchy, stuttery browsing... none of which is really apparent on an iPhone... unfortunately, Android still can't seem to figure out the buttery smooth part (maybe Pixel?). The battery life on G5 did really stink though and there's no way I could go an entire day without changing out the battery, which becomes a ritual and it's not like it's hard, but it is annoying (I had 3 batteries). My G5 wasn't without problems though - it has that notorious GPS issue... GPS signal is absolute garbage (there's an in-depth XDA thread on it) and even after sending back the G5 to LG for repairs, it developed the problem over time... so GPS is really crippled on this phone (for me and many other unlucky ones) and as most can agree GPS is one of those crucial features, I can't go back to my own copy of G5.... maybe I can pick up another used one for a good price with a good GPS unit... but that's too much trouble. I like G5 but I don't love it THAT much to go through all that trouble... if I am honest, V20 really has got it all... except the size part. V20's wide angle camera is I think slightly less wide than G5's. I like G5's wideness better.
G6 - just beautiful... but you're right. No more replaceable batteries... and LG gave the US people a normal (stinky) DAC, not like the one in V20... oh boy, you can literally hear the difference. But I also noticed LG's own music app stinks - install a 3rd party - I installed Pi Music Player and the audio quality is noticeably better than the stock music player, despite the stinker of a DAC. LG says the US customers wanted wireless charging over DAC... c'mon seriously? With USB-C, charging is so easy... I'd rather have a better DAC. And removal of IR really hurts. Maybe most didn't use it but I travel a lot for work and stay at hotels... I find myself using IR quite often to change the input source of the TV (for plugging my laptop via HDMI, using Chromecast, etc).
LG... please don't go along with the "norm"... You will not win and you will no longer have any key differentiating feature.
I have to agree, I've had my G6 about a month now and I'm not that impressed. I've had several random reboots, and the screen freezes. If we had root, I could work with it but since we don't, I tend to use my G5 more and more..

Stock rooted with Asgard kernel.
If you don't need WiFi calling or VOLTE, Fulmics rom is a good option.
H830 and H850 are the only variants that can be rooted right? Does the 830 have all the bands necessary for ATT LTE? Or do you have to go with the 850?
