I'm rooted on 13B and use Straight Talk, which uses Verizon's network. I can't get data while on calls (VoLTE). Is there a work around for this issue? I can't enable "advanced calling" because I do not have a Verizon account, and assume that Straight Talk does not enable this service.
If I'd known this was going to happen I probably would have got a different G4

UGHHH this drives me crazy!!!
Its my understanding that our vs986 isn't capable of simultaneous data/voice without the service provider offering some version of HD voice.
I have spent a good bit of time on the phone with straighttalk (since we are on verizon towers) trying to get this figured out but no luck yet!
I spend the majority of my time on wifi but man its aggravating when im out and need to talk and look something up at the same time.
My wife has the S5 and she can use data and talk on straight talk with no problem....
If I had known this i might would have kept my note 4 (although i really like having a rooted g4)
I'm trying to find out the same thing. Does Straight Talk support VOLTE on Verizon's network and can I use simultaneous voice and data like I can on Verizon? Will the hotspot provisioning hack work on Straight Talk?
Someone must know.
Thanks,
-Joe

My ep4gt is rooted and CWM, but where do I find the rom for straight talk? I assume I need a rom to make this work on the ST unlimited plan.
Once flashed, how do I activate on ST?
Sorry searched couldn't find this answered.
You can't. Straight Talk uses T-Mobile's network which is GSM/AWS, and requires a sim card. This phone is CDMA only.

Straight Talk is CDMA (through Verizon) And no it hasn't been/ cannot be done as far as I know.
ST uses ATT, Verizon, and t mobile afaik.
There are mulitiple services on ebay offering to flash your cdma phone over to ST on the verizon network.

It looks like sprint changed some 3g passwords after the iphone release. thats why my speeds reverted to 1X. You can update the passwords but if you didnt flash the phone yourself then you need to get it back to whomever did it and they can update it. I actually just took my eg4t and flashed it to straight talk wireless instead. $45 unlimited everything(although they are supposedly cutting people off that use more than 3-5g per month) It runs off Verizons towers so my speeds quadrupled over sprints crappy 3g speeds."

I PM'ed him,no reply yet as to if there is a way to do this without paying to have this done.
Id save over a 100 a month if I could switch my lines to straight talk. Im kind of interested in this also, but its something ill want to do myself and not through ebay.
For Android phones, Straight Talk uses Sprint. They signed a contract back some months ago. They are not ties to a specific provider and will use what makes sense for them, so it could change over time.
Well these phones when flashed use the verizon network. There are lots of youtube videos where they call some number and it tells you the provider.
So i'm seeing that this is a paid for service only (to have phone flashed to ST)
Interesting. 2 people I know with ST, and both phones have SIM cards. Granted, both are clamshells, but good to know.

I bought two ST phones last year, the Samsung qwerty slider, and the one that looks like a blackberry. They were both cdma and ran off the Verizon network. They had bars where my sprint phone did not. I guess different regions use different carriers to piggy back on. There is no T-Mobile coverage in a 10 mile radius where I live.
Here you go:

I'm sure Straight Talk is willing to use whatever makes the most sense for them so I wouldn't be surprised if they switch stuff around over time.
Maybe this process goes around that? But I have confirmed that these phones do work on the vrz network.

how did you flash yours?
I have my ET4G running on prepaid Platinumtel. You can take any Sprint (Android is easiest) phone and "hack" it to run on any Sprint MNVO network easy (with some diligent research on the web) such as Platinumtel, Virgin etc. I can't say how here, only that it can be done
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Do all the Sprint prepaid spinoffs (Boost/Virgin et. al.) offer unlimited data, or is it capped/throttled?
Sent from an Android-powered HP Touchpad.
Update:
You have to start the port process 24 hours before the idiot starts the flash process. It's not really a flash though.
It uses the verizon towers, no question. You can change around your prl's to determine which towers you wish to use.
So far, very happy with this
I plan to buy the Note 2 from AT&T at full price and use the phone with Straight Talk since Straight Talk offer better deal.
My question is will I get LTE signal with Straight Talk? I have heard that Straight Talk uses AT&T cell tower. Is this true?
Straight Talk is limited to HSPA+, no LTE.
Kevin Tofel of GigaOM has written about straight talk's pros and cons. He's been using straight talk for a while now and it works for him. check it out what he said:
http://gigaom.com/mobile/straight-talk-it-could-let-you-dump-att-or-t-mobile/
Along with no LTE this is the other key deciding factor for me:
"For $45, Straight Talk advertises unlimited voice minutes, messages and HSPA+ data (There’s no LTE support, even if your phone is capable of using AT&T’s LTE service). Based on user-reported experiences, Straight Talk won’t cut you off provided you keep your monthly usage to 2 GB or about 100 MB per day. Hit either of these and you might get a message about excessive use, along with the threat of service termination. History shows that I use about 1 to 1.5 GB of mobile broadband a month on my phones (I use Wi-Fi a ton), so this works well for me. If you want truly unlimited data or use more than 2 GB per month on your phone, this isn’t the plan for you. Don’t even try it, would be my recommendation."
If there is no LTE with Straight Talk, would it be better for me to get Straight talk with the T-mobile Note 2 since T-mobile's HSPA+ speed is faster than AT&T (42 Mbps vs. 21 Mbps )
It depends on the area you're in.

Ive had problems with straight talk before. Cutting off my data when I went over 4 gb.
After the third time I asked them to kindly define unlimited
Then I asked them to define false advertising lawsuit.
Last month I used 16gb
No warnings, no calls, no disconects no nothing
This has been on going for the last 9 months no problems and huge data loads. My st phone is my modem. No hone wifi. Just be a bit dickish when u call but shoud need to be to bad
Thats a cdma phone tho
Will do the same thing when I start a new gsm account this week.

It would work but if you are going to buy the phone unlocked, I would try to look into the international version. You will get faster updates that way.
I let a friend that uses straight talk in my area put his SIM into my GN2 last night... I can confirm that this works... Also... He is using an iphone 4 and has intermittent MMS issues... No issues sending or rcv'ing pictures using his sim and my phone.
Thats what happens when you buy crapple

Hi,
Currently I have a droid DNA on Verizon with unlimited data, text and calls. I was grandfathered in. I really want to lower my bill monthly and want a new phone as well. I was thinking of getting either a Verizon Galaxy S4 or HTC One and trying out straight talk for a month. IF all works well, I may port my main number over. Otherwise, I would just keep the One/S4 on Verizon.
Has anyone used the HTC One from Verizon on an MVNO? I hear that all the 4G LTE phones are Unlocked out the box. Just wanted to make sure before I buy.
unless something has changed in the last couple of months you can only use old 3g only verizon devices on straight talk. you cannot use 4g devices. plus you have to pay them something like 50 bucks to unlock it and move it to straight talk, which usually doesn't justify the cost of buying an old VZW 3g phone. maybe, if you have one laying around then you can justify the cost.
straight talk is kind of a pain too, if you miss your payment date by 7 days then they close your account. possibly losing your number. it's not like virgin mobile where you can shut the phone off for 90-120 days before they close the account and you lose your number. not to mention straight talks unlimited data is no where close to unlimited. they will close your account after 1.5gb i believe.
if you have decent sprint service in your area i would suggest looking at virgin mobile or boost. either of those have way better phones than straight talk and you can get 4g with them if available in your area.

The ST website says you can get an AT&T compatible 4GLTE Sim for GSM phones and plug it in, activate, then activate your airtime card. I've seen people do this with the Droid DNA so I was wondering if the One would do this also.
You don't have to pay anyone to unlock anything. All verizon 4GLTE phones are unlocked out the box. The Htc one and s4 have GSM radios in them, which means ATT or Tmobile should pick up.
i don't believe the program for ATT phones on straight talk is the same as verizon phones on straight talk.
from what i understand from researching this a few months ago was that only verizon 3g phones could be ported to ST. if it was a 4g phone then ST would not allow you to use on their network (more likely verizon won't let ST on their 4g network and are just leasing them the less used 3g network). The only way to use a verizon 3g phone was to pay for ST to unlock it.
i highly doubt you can take a 4g verizon phone and use it on ST, if you can't find the information you need on the web then call/email ST and ask them. the few times i had to email them they got back to me within a few hours.

i see you are wanting to use a ST ATT sim in the verizon one, to use on the ST network which would use ATT towers.
i'm not sure if this is possible. i would ask ST and see what they say. it could be that they say NO just because the person you get doesn't understand what you are trying to do. Perhaps the other way would be to simply try it and see what happens... but if you are currently using the phone on Verizon, then this would probably end your contract and unlimited data.
however, i still stand by my conviction that you cannot use verizon 4g devices on ST where ST uses Verizon towers.

Yeah I don't care about ST service where ST is using Verizon towers. I was wondering if the ST ATT Sim that you can buy would work in an HTC One from Verizon. I have the DNA on Verizon now and my One will be arriving soon. I figured I will keep the DNA on Verizon so I don't loose Unlimited Data. But before I blow $51+ tax on a ST Sim card and data plan card, I wanted to know if anyone had it working on their phone?
ATT has good coverage where I live.
Just as an update. The phone works with straight talk just only get edge data and I can't send mms probably because just the data is slow.

I know this is an old post, but can you tell me how you got yours to activate. I have a Droid DNA and it keeps telling me that it is not compatible. I have not switched the SIM cards yet. Will it work once I buy an AT&T SIM Card? I do not know much about how the SIM cards work. Right now the old verizon SIM is still in there and it says the IMEI number is not compatible. Will that change once I switch the SIM cards?
Just pop in the straight talk SIM it will recognize it after you buy a plan and put in the apn settings from their site.

I finally upgraded from my HTC One M7, and I can't make phone calls and surf the web while on 4G anymore! I did a little Googling and found out it's because Sprint's Spark network doesn't support VoLTE. And from what I'm reading, it seems like Sprint phones only have one radio.
Is there a way around this? Does the HTC 10 for Sprint maybe have all radios, but they're disabled and you can gain access with root? Maybe I can do away with LTE and just go back to classic 4G & CDMA?
Thanks!

Right now Sprint does not support VoLTE with any of their current devices. Sprint put all of their time and effort into the Sprint Spark project. When Sprint started the Spark project they needed their devices to be Tri-Band devices which in turn removed the ability to use voice and data services at the same time. The HTC 10 is a VoLTE certified device and is capable of WiFi Calling as well with other carriers. Based on an article I read earlier from www.S4GRU.com, the only device that Sprint has that is VoLTE certified with the FCC is the LG G5. If you want to be able to use voice and data services at the same time with Sprint you will have to use an older device like your M7 that is not a Tri-Band device. Another Sprint device that can use voice and data services at the same time is the Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) and the early
S4 (SPH-L720). If either of those devices have a "T" at the end of their number it means they are Tri-Band devices. Hope this helps. I feel your frustration with Sprint and VoLTE. My wife and I have been with Sprint for iver 15 years and have a grandfathered unlimited data plan that she wont get rid of. So, when the Galaxy S3 from Sprint made it to the end of its useful life with me I switched carriers so i could have VoLTE and my wife can keep Sprint.

You can achieve voice and data with Google's Hangout Dialer. The call is placed over data so you can use data during the call. Granted, you need to set up a Google voice number, but it achieves the purpose.
This is the reason I ditched CDMA all together and went GSM. (My MVNO has both, so it was an easy switch.)
Getting far better data rates (cable speeds rather than dial-up speeds) with a weak signal was an unexpected bonus.
This will determine if I buy this phone, have been eyeing OnePlus 7 for a few months but haven't seen anybody attempt to use wifi calling on AT&T Network.

Everything works great, including call forwarding codes etc. This phone is basically a turd on Verizon, no wifi calling, and no texting. My plan is to give the AT&T pay as you go plan a 2 month trial, I will forward my VZW phone to it, and put it through the paces, if all works out, I will get rid of VZW and move to At&t.
I found out, while you can enable Wifi calling on AT&T, it does not actually work when there is no network. OnePlus support says that plan on fixing it on a future update. It does however work on Google Fi.
