is it possible for palm web os on evo
No and if someone pulled it off there would be a cease and desist almost immediately
jesus h christ....seriously i want to know where people come up with this ****.
No.
Theoretically, they could put any Open Source OS on just about any hardware (so long as it is built for an ARM architecture CPU). If you want to have a closed source OS (like iOS, WinMo, WebOS, Blackberry OS [oh dear God WHY?!], Mac OSX Leopard, etc...) on your hardware, you'll pretty much have that pre-installed on the device. That's why you can put Android onto the HTC HD2, but you can't put WinMo 6.5 on the EVO 4G.
Bottom line, if you want WebOS+ Android, you'll have to buy Palm Pre if you even want a chance (though, why would you, why not just wait for some killer HP+Palm hardware?). You'd be much better off just trying to theme Android and looking for apps that can simulate the advantages of WebOS (pre home speeds up task switching, and TaskOS does an ok job too).
Just started using a pre, its really a good OS on some bad hardware, but its a good OS while android is a great OS. WebOS only has one thing on android and that is the ability to easily switch between open apps. i would even be satisfied with the way WinMo allows you to switch between apps and close them without even opening them.
*EDIT*
testing those two apps you mentioned, pre home does not work with killing apps for me, taskos seems to work much better, and it has swipe up and down for quick app killing/safelisting.

Lol, Juuuvy!
My favorite feature on windows phone 7 believe it or not has nothing to do with apps. Its that thing you use to search for apps, you know, the keyboard! I must admit its a quite good keyboard and definitely beyond the one on Android and in my humble opinion better then iOS. The size of the keys are perfect and the sensitivity is right on target. With Android you get a lag regardless of your virtual keyboard of choice and the only way to get it to run accurately is by turning off sound and haptic feedback. No matter how much you type on wp7, there is never any slowdown. It works to perfection and is the main reasons I use this device or any of my Android powered phones as my daily driver.
Plus the fact that not everyone has one is icing on the cake. I feel like I've got a rare gem and if there are detractors so be it. I too was one and from the moment I bought my hd7 until now, I haven't looked back. All in all great device and exceptional minus some minor annoyances. In due time I have faith we will get fixes and updates because above all, Microsoft believes in this product. It has a very futuristic feel and gives you a taste of what the next generation can be like if legitimate time and effort is spent on the evolution of the os.
I totally agree with you. You are not the only one with laggy keyboard on the android, i absolutely hated it and i never could figure out what was wrong with it. I never had this much fun using the keyboard on the iphone. The text text revolution is one of the best typing game i have ever played on a mobile device and its free!
i think the keyboard in landscape mode could make better use of the extra space... at the moment it is only a little bit wider than the portrait keyboard
i find it harder to type in landscape than in portrait because of its placement
I agree with the keyboard being a BIG plus for the WP7. I have not had keyboard issues on my previous Android Nexus one ROM running from SD card, but that is probably due to the fact that I did not activate any sound or feedback for the keyboard.
The only thing that is a bit disappointing for me is the lack of the cursors. Even if they were in a hidden menu, it would be easier for me to edit the text in case I've found any mistake.
As for the landscape mode, I prefer typing with 2 hands to 1, so I like it, but I agree with hboos that they space could be better used.
I agree too! the keyboard is one of the greatest things on WP7

You may already be aware of this, but if not; tap and hold your finger on the text for about a second and a cursor will appear - drag this to where the mistake is and edit away.
I actually find this better than some other systems where you select text / move the cursor based solely on where you're tapping your finger as it's always a pain in the arse getting it placed in the right spot.
yeeeah its so responsive thats what i like i remember on my old phone (Xperia X1) i'd type a text and have to wait agggess for the phone to catch up on the screen!! even happened on stock roms which was very annoying! but WP7 does it awesome
Coming from Android, the WP7 keyboard is a major plus for me.
I like the spacing and it is super responsive. Also, I like the keyboard sound, helps me with entering text.
Only drawback I see is the smiley button. I don't use much smilies.
While I prefer WP7 over android, I have to say the new gingerbread keyboard for android is amazing. I'd say better than WP7 keyboard just because it doesn't have the extra space in landscape mode.

agree,, i never experienced any lag while using android keybroad.
well, i don't know what the "android keybroad" you means. i feel very comforatable when using the keybroad of froyo and gingerbread, ( i don't like the keybroad in sense.)
and for me the best feature is the IE browser, which is faster than iphone and android,, though the setting is too too simple, and no flash (now).

Wasted space in landscape > Wasted space in portrait. Only because I type in portrait most of the time. It is dreadful to type with the Gingerbread keyboard on portrait especially when you are trying to delete something.

The keyboard in sense is kind of nifty with the symbols shortcut.
Someone beat me to it, so I'll merely second the recommendation of Text Text Revolution if you like playing with the keyboard. Had some friends over the other night and we passed the phone around trying to top each others scores
I have been a webOS user since June 2009. I am currently using a Sprint Franken Pre 2 and an HP Touchpad. With the coming of ICS I have decided to research a new phone since the future of webOS is uncertain at best and dead at the worst. My choices are limited to Sprint devices. The Photon and Epic Touch 4G top my list though a Galaxy Nexus would be ideal if it were on Sprint. ICS sounds a lot more like webOS, some new features aside. The Epic Touch 4G is my top pick.
I am looking for a place to start as far as rooting, WiFi tethering my Touchpad, and learning about roms.
On webOS rooting is as simple as enabling developer mode via an old konami code and entering a command in a dos box. Is it this simple with Android?
Are there additional app stores available after rooting? WebOS has a repository through webOS Quick Install and Preware. These allow installation of unofficial apps from our homebrew community. Is there something similar or better available before or after rooting? This is where I got my freetether app on my Pre2.
My webOS account was setup with my Yahoo email account. I do have a Google account. My calendar and phone contacts are associated with my Yahoo account. Can I create an Android account using my Yahoo email? Is there a way to import my contacts and calender to my Android account if it only allows a Google account for setup?
There's a script in development that roots the phone via comand prompt I believe. Rooting gives you more options and custom roms. I would recommend reading the sticky threads in development I'm no pro but I can help in anyway let me know.

I was a Pre minus user until my 2 year contract was up, then switched to the Epic Touch. I really like this phone, and it does most of the things WebOS does (just not as efficiently).
There is nothing like Preware on Android, but the Marketplace is great and has most of the apps that you need. One thing that is missing is the "patches" that preware had to let you customize pretty much everything. I guess the equivalent to that on android is the use of Launchers, which you can customize a lot of things, but not everything.
I am rooted with the Starburst Rom, it takes sometime to get started with rooting, but once you do it, it's pretty easy from there on. There are many videos in the Development section that guide you through it. This Rom comes with the wifi tether hack, and I can connect perfectly to my Touchpad with it.
There is one big dislike with this phone, and that is the LoS bug. I didn't mind it at first because you can just restart your phone and it fixes it, but now it is occurring a lot more often, and I miss calls and messages due to this. Hopefully this will be fixed with ICS, but then again, it may not.

You echo most of my thoughts thus far. I have gained some functionality but lost the simplicity, flow, and elegance of webOS. Grant it webOS has its flaws but it was easier to use and some things I bought apps for on Android webOS does for free in its stock form. I am happy I have made the switch though. There are some trade offs but overall I can get used to Android.
As for the phone, I love it. It's the hardware I told Palm webOS needed in late 2009 minus the screen. I sent an email.
I have been getting used to the phone and Android in its stock form. I'll be looking at the stickies for some direction with rooting.
Did you have LOS before rooting? I'm on the EK02 baseband and have not had LOS yet. My carrier is Sprint and the phone is on Android 2.36. I am curious. It would suck if I have it after rooting. Is that possible?
I stumbled across this video and thought I'd share it. I see the person doing the comparison is making use of the the quick controls functionality of the browser. Personally, I feel the quick controls just might be what sets this browser apart from the rest and quite possibly makes this the best mobile browser out.
For those who aren't familiar with what quick controls are, he breaks it down around 5:45.

Note: To enable quick controls, go in your browser settings, and look under the "labs" section and you'll see it there.
Awesome! great feature, thanks for the heads up

Yeah I thought he did a pretty decent job of going through the browser.
I was thrilled when I put the ICS rom on my Nexus S and saw the browser quick controls. lol Ever since I used the browser on the Xoom tablet when it first came out and tried out the quick controls I was trying to find a way to bring it to my phone. Obviously, I quickly found out that wouldn't be possible. So from that point forward I've been wanting the quick controls feature. Couple the quick controls feature with the browser speed and you've got IMO the best mobile browser out there. I can't wait to try it on my GNex (when handtec eventually ships it....).

It's been a Labs feature since Honeycomb and still is which says to me it's buggy and unstable. I used on my Xoom and it made my browser flaky at times. Ics might be more stable but just keep an eye on it. If it was perfectly fine it'd just be a regular setting and not still under labs.

I've never had that feature give me any trouble at all. It seems our experiences differ here. How frequently did it give you problems? Also is there anyone with a GNex now, that is using this feature? How is it operating for you?
What kind of things can you do with quick controls? I watched the video this morning, but only remember him using it to switch tabs.

Basically lets you 1) switch tabs 2) pull up the address bar 3) access the settings menu.
The plus is they're quickly accessible when compared to the normal address bar/menus, and it lets the address bar be hidden 99% of the time to give you a larger view of the page.
I've been using it since my order arrived Saturday. Nothing out of the ordinary to report. I got spoiled to this on my Transformer and could never go back.
I will say the expanded version on the tablet with the close tab, back/forward, refresh, etc. is superior but for the screen size this version is 99% as good.
Found out about this while trying to set up Chrome Sync, and it's effing awesome. Not going back.
I just don't get it - the only time my stock Nexus launcher redraws (relaunches) is after using the browser. I can do a ton of other stuff but whenever I use the browser and load anything remotely heavy (sometimes doesn't have to be) - it has to redraw the launcher.
id personally much rather have back as a choice, but thats just me
I cannot wait for the ICS browser. It may be the second most desirable feature of ICS (first being the improved keyboard).
The one thing I hate about the current Gingerbread browser is the Bookmark. The first Bookmark tab sorts it via most visited sites, except isn't that what the second tab on top is for? It's annoying that the order gets changed in the Bookmark tab. Drives me nuts.
I really look forward to Chrome sync and the quick controls.
Yeah its odd they did this. I don't know why they didn't just use the same quick controls as my Xoom has which are much more useful.

Isn't this feature similar to what the MIUI miren browser does with its controls and the "smart full screen" option?
Don't want to say miren is better than stock, it's pretty buggy actually.
After having used my phone for a full day now, I must say this is the best browser I've used on a phone thus far, and the quick controls just set it apart. This browser is in a class of it's own.
Is there any easier way to remove tab without going to the Tab button then swipe left or right?
I know using Quick Control we can access the loaded tabs ...
so since Quick Controls doesn't have the full options like that are found on Honeycomb tablets...how do you navigate back and forward while using QCs?
Okay so I know this isn't an iPhone but I really like the way C&P is implemented in iOS, with the magnifying glass when you hold down etc. Would it be possible for someone to create this experience on the Nexus 4 (or even all devices with Jellybean)
I'm admittedly pretty ignorant in the world of Android but I don't think this would be possible...
If you tap and hold on any text, the copy sliders pop-up. They do the same think iOS does.

Yeah, I'm used to holding down and scrolling through letter, I'm not a fan of holding down, then dragging a slider.
U srs rite nao. LOLLLLLLLLLL
In all honestly, there is a zero percent chance of this. It represents such an enormous undertaking, ie system level changes, for so little return. Sorry bro.
I can't see it happening, it would be awesome if it did because iOS c&p is superior to android but I think this would involve a lot more time than most devs would be willing to put in...I'd love to be proven wrong though.

How about " why ".
Lol. I wouldn't mind it to much if I were you. This phone has that too, but it kinda just gets in the way tbh.
I just wish copy and paste on this phone was better. Pasting is so horrible on this device.

Moto blur also has a similar and awesome copy paste feature. I'm not sure why Google has decided to make the stock text selection etc. so non user-friendly. Maybe key lime pie will bring something better in this regard, but I doubt there will be anything like this from custom Rom makers
It already exist in MIUI roms for about a year now. Miui is starting an aosp project and that may release some of their better features out into the rest of the android world.
yes, this is another pet peeve of mine, why is so hard to copy and paste with this nexus 4? it has the stupid arrows which is a pain in the butt to move around, is there a way to copy and paste so easily like the iphone 4
Am I the only one that has no issues with how Android handles Copy&Paste?
Works great for me... I've used iOS Copy&Paste, and don't like it. Plus Android made it easy to Select Text and Share on Social Sites...

So because some users prefer the way iOS does some things to the way android does it means that they are using it wrong? There are many things iOS does better than android and vice versa. There is no shame in publicly expressing an opinion about how you would improve a product. Same with OSX. I've always liked expose, so I downloaded an application that mimics it for Windows. We aren't prisoners who have to eat whatever Google/Microsoft feeds us.
In fact, the best thing about android IMO is being able to use your launcher/dialer/whatever of choice.
PS one of the many bad things about android's text selection is that when you are selecting text that is near the keyboard it is excessively cumbersome to click on the text selection icon and drag it without touching a key or some part of the apps UI. A magnifier would make that a little easier.

I'm pretty sure that Sense magnifies while selecting copy and paste.
I'm fine with the stock Android way though.
