Has anyone had trouble with backups they made? I made one of the Pure Nexus rom, system boot and data. Backup was created perfect. Restored perfect. But when system came up and I went to input my pin, it's incorrect. I know my pin like the back of my hand as it's the only one I use. It's not wrong. Anyone else see this?

There are several topics on this subject already on this forum.
I've encountered it personally when restoring after trying cm13.
Keeping your device unencrypted seems to be a solution to prevent this.
Search the forum for a way to get to your data.

Thanks for the responses. I forgot to post here again, I think I was decrypted but I had fingerprints set up. Before I backup now, I just make sure I don't have a secure lockscreen setup and I haven't had that issue.

Hey all,
First off, apologies if there's another thread on this. I searched, didn't find anything that relates.
Basically, since the Sense 4.1 update, which I did via RUU, I've had 2 issues.
The first is that, around once per day, a message appears telling me com.google.gapps has force closed. I don't know why, I don't know how to fix it. I don't know if it's related to problem #2.
Problem 2 is worse. Whenever my One X is connected to a computer (and I've tried multiple, Mac and PC) it reboots before appearing as a mounted volume. I don't know why.
I expect the primary solution offered will be to wipe the phone and start again. However, I've accumulated a lot of save games and other data I don't want to lose, and have no known way of backing up the phone, including app data. I'm open to suggestions on that one.
The major issue there would be, if I back up to phone memory, how do I get it off phone memory before I wipe it?
Last time, I backed up using MyBackup Pro. However, I found it did not restore app data correctly, and am suspicious that the restore of data via MyBackup is responsible for some of the problems I am having on my relatively fresh 4.0.4 install.
As stated, I am on Sense 4.1/ Android 4.0.4. I am also unrooted. My main computer is a Mac, although I can virtualise Windows (XP) if necessary.
All suggestions welcome!
Here is a guide to backup your apps & data using adb, so you can restore them after you do the wipe. I haven't tested it myself, so I suggest you first try to backup an app (one you don't care very much about losing the data), uninstall it and restore the backup, to see if it does the job. And if everything works fine, do a full backup, wipe the storage and restore your backup. I'd appreciate if you came back and reported how it all went

Simply use titanium backup. You can then restore apps and data after a wipe.
Don't format your sdcard. Wiping the phone won't touch sdcard either.

Have you even read the thread? The guy is unrooted, so he can't use TB, and wants to do a full wipe, Phone Storage included.
Read everything but last paragraph. You're right. Sorry for misleading.
There is another guide available here

Hey all,
Thanks for the help. I tried adb backup before the RUU, and it always hung at a particular point (can't remember where.)
I googled the problem, and it seemed I wasn't the only one. This made me concerned about the integrity of the adb backup, and thus worried about relying on it. Perhaps I should do it tomorrow and give it plenty of time... I'll let you know how it goes
Cheers again!
I used the internarional toolkit v1.0 to root my phone the day after T-Mobile released it, and had minor stability issues frequently; if an app locked up, a battery pull was required to fix it, sometime "system" would request superuser access 8-10 times in a row before the phone would reboot itself, stuff like that. I wrote it off as something that I would worry about when I had more time to switch to a new ROM. Boy, do I regret waiting.
My phone locked up, like normal, and I performed a battery pull. When I replaced it and booted the device, I was greeted by a holo-style popup saying "Android is updating" or something to that effect. It would then load my lockscreen and respond for about 10 seconds before completely freezing again.
A full wipe fixed this, so I took this opportunity to switch to a different ROM. I lost my SMS' and all app data aside from the few Titanium backups I had. I don't know if the OS just borked itself, or if it somehow tried to download an OTA update, or what.
But if you experience these issues, or used the original international version of the toolkit with options 4-3-1, then you might want to switch to a custom ROM before it's too late.
Heeeeeed my waaaaarrrrnnniiiiinnnngggg...
EDIT: I guess I wasn't terribly clear due to my wording and being tired. Yes, I know doing a full wipe and flashing a ROM will cause me to lose my data. I was just saying that due to the fact that the only way to fix the device was a full wipe, I lost my data. All I'm saying really is to watch out for these issues or else you'll be in the same boat I was with no backups to restore from.
I don't understand. If you switch your ROM you're going to lose previous data unless you back it up. You do a backup before anything.

Confused too - of course you're going to lose your data after a full wipe.

I added a clarification to my first post. All I was saying was that if anyone else is having issues similar to mine, back up your data before it's too late, like it was for me.
No problems here. I rooted my SGN2 with v1.0.0 and just de-bloated all tmobile apps with Titanium since first day release and never had an issue. Of course, some apps don't work with the SGN2, but it just tries to start and then after a few seconds it comes back, but this probably has more to do with the apps. This also happens with custom roms too.
I'm now just using rooted stock debloated tmobile rom. Seems to run the best without any issues.
might be off topic but i noticed when i tried to go back to factory with odin it flashed the rom and i lost root but it did not erase data at all. is this normal when using odin? or do i need the PIT file to go 100% stock?
I rooted threw odin. Whats the difference threw toolkits?

Efs is the only thing that worry me with Galaxy Note 2. Several methods of backing up. But seems that it is unclear if any method is really backing up efs within Galaxy Note 2. There seems to be differences between GS3 efs and GN2 efs.
No real solid clear evidence or clarification which and if any efs backup method actually backs up Galaxy Note 2 efs. And no real solid clarification on how to restore Galaxy Note 2 efs. And no solid clear evidence or clarification that if the Galaxy Note 2 efs restore method actually restores the efs correctly.
not sure how or why, but my n7 soft bricked during a reboot. i wasn't able to get into recovery at all even after reflashing twrp. i am unlocked/rooted so i flashed stock images which worked as the tablet was able to boot. however, it unfortunately wiped my storage. is there any way to recover that data? i've been unable to find anything that has been able to scan it for deleted files. im most concerned about my titanium backups. thanks for any recommendations.

May wanna give this post a read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47623410. It's very well written and explains how storage works on Nexus devices.
If it's too long, and you don't feel like reading... Bottom line, I'm afraid you're out of luck. Sorry for your loss. This is why I always keep copies of my nandroid and TiBu backups off the device in case this happens. Also, I have Dropbox and Google+ backup all my pics and vids to the cloud since I've already fallen victim to losing them once before.

that sucks! i do greatly appreciate your taking the time to respond though. better luck next time, right?

For sure. I still remember that feeling in the pit of my stomach when I realized I had just accidentally deleted the camera folder on my GNex. That's why I went total overkill and have both Dropbox and Google+ backup all my pics and videos. I swore, "Never again!"
In past devices I've owned lately (can remember which cuz there's been A LOT) I've noticed that at times, when i restore a back up i suddenly have bugs that weren't there b4. I'm not saying it's common but i HAVE seen it. I wanna try installing some mods my phone but b4 i do I'm gonna create a back up. Im just hoping that if i do have too restore a back up that it's not gonna suddenly create problems. My set up is dam near perfect right now. So I'm just putting some feelers out here: has anyone restored a back up using TWRP? And if so, was everything running perfectly afterwards?
Thanks.
Never had an issue.

If I restore a backup I usually do a factory reset first and foremost everything, that way its restoring to a clean space.

Just did it today. No problems at all.
I have noticed stuff like google play services needing to be updated even though it was just updated and smart cards stop working. Never anything major though and it only happens every now and then.

Yeah, i do too. I think it was a while back on the note 3 that even when wiping fully you'd still get issues. Just glad to see others aren't having problems with this device. Thanks.

That's because TWRP was horribly broken on the Note 3 for a long time. It wasn't restoring SELinux contexts properly so you'd wind up with a non-functional device (e.g. every app FC'd on launch, device would bootloop, etc.). It was also corrupting exFAT-formatted SD cards due to a buggy FUSE implementation. (I helped bigbiff troubleshoot and fix all of it over the past year.)
I had to restore contexts manually via adb after a TWRP restore before rebooting into Android. They only fixed that in the 2.7.1.0 release IIRC.
I haven't had a single problem. Restores perfectly. I do wipe like 3 times first though.
I've recently noticed that my TWRP backups don't seem to be compete backups anymore. I haven't restored many in a while, but I first noticed it with a Nougat backup (but sure if this is related to Nougat or just a coincidence).
The first thing I noticed was some (but not all) system settings were back to defaults (ex. custom LED colors were reset, but the custom battery bar was still enabled). This could have just been the ROM not properly saving after a reboot. The bigger problem, however, is my texts weren't restored with the backup (which is why I restored in the first place). When I restored a different backup, I had to go through the initial setup to add my WiFi and Google account.
Does anyone have any idea why restoring what should be a full backup image is now missing data? I've done this fine many times in the past, so it's not like this is my first time doing this (although it's starting to feel like it).
Sent from my LG-VS985 using Tapatalk
Also, I'm not sure if it's worth mentioning, but I did do a wipe before restoring. The nandroid should still have (and restore) texts though, correct?

After looking a little more, it looks like this is a known issue with TWRP and Android 7.1 :/ would have been nice to have known about it beforehand so I would have known I'll need something in addition to a nandroid backup to really have everything covered.
