So I successfully implemented inductive charging into my Diztronic case so I decided to buy a few NFC tags to launch specific things when on certain Touchstones. Here I come to find out that when I put the NFC tag onto the touchstone the phone wont charge AND it won't detect the NFC tag. The tag works fine as long as it's not on the touchstone, and the touchstone works fine without the tag on it. Has anyone else encountered this issue and/or found a solution to NFC tagging touchstones?
On a side note, what is everyone's favorite NFC writer app? I'm currently using Samsung's new TacTile app and it seems to work pretty well (besides on my Touchstones...)
Some people have reported some strange NFC behavior when using inductive chargers, often when the charging coil sits right on top of the battery. The only possible fix would be to nudge the charging coil up so it doesn't sit over the battery as much.

Just go into Google Shopper and look up NFC tags. The Sony Xperia one's look cool and are my favorite.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 which depends on the battery with a built in NFC antenna for NFC to work. I am currently using a 3rd party battery that doesn't have an NFC antenna. I would love if there is an option to somehow add an antenna externally, but not through the use of a microSD card if possible. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
Doubt it. NFC isn't just a matter of adding an antenna afaik.

It would be really be more feasible to just buy a different battery with NFC support. Trying to add an NFC antenna to the phone would be a lot more work than it's worth.

I assumed the rest of the required hardware is built into the phone and just the antenna in the battery, but then again the antenna probably needs to receive power so I can see how that would be an issue. Thanks for your input.

Actually on the SGS3 the NFC antenna is in the battery, not the phone.
Sent from my Transformer using Tapatalk 2
Actually I knew that since it was stated in the first post. I consider that still inside the phone.
I thought the user I answered to imagined something like this here as an nfc antenna.
While technically yes, you could make an antenna out of say aluminium foil if you could figure how to cut it so you end up with a tuned antenna, then connect it to the correct pin on the battery connector, I think any sane person would just stick an NFC battery in.
I think they put the antenna in the battery because it's up close to the back of the case. That would also keep it well away from the other antennas that I doubt would like the power pulses that NFC puts out while it's polling.
Oh and Damastus, that picture it hilarious.
I've done the wireless charging mod using Palm Pixi guts. That thin coil of wire is enough to break NFC communication, depending on where it's put. NFC has a VERY short range, so I'm sure it's in the battery to put it as close to potential NFC chips you want to read, and to minimize anything else getting between the antenna & chip (like cases, batteries, etc.)

On the Nexus S, the antenna is built into the phone's backplate.
In theory, you could buy a Nexus S back, remove that antenna, and put it on the inside of your phone.
Run fine wires from the phone's NFC antenna connections to the antenna, and it might just work.
I'd expect reception to be lousy, since you'll detune the antenna by trying to connect it. This also assumes that the NFC circuitry is in the phone, and the battery has only the antenna.

I got my extended battery (4300mAh) with NFC support from a Chinese manufacturer for only $15. I know you have to be careful with those, but this one seemed legit so I took a chance and it works great - last forever - AND has NFC. Here's the one I got: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/NFC-Extended-cell-phone-battery-with-cover-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-I9300-4300mAh/577969392.html

If I recall correctly, the Verizon SGS3 inductive charging back cover has the NFC element on the cover, not the battery.

I think you're right, however I'm pretty sure that's what the extra two pins under the battery are for. These pins are only on the Verizon version of the GS3 though, so it wouldn't work for my T-Mobile GS3. Thanks for the suggestion though.

As far as I have known, there is a type of NFC antenna available in the market that can be stuck to the back cover of your Galaxy S3. In this way, you can take full advantages of NFC functions of the Samsung mobile with an alternative mobile battery. However, it seems that most providers like Sunshine Good Electronics Company only do wholesales business on platforms like Globe Resources. You can search it on e-bay, maybe you will be surprised to find on retail seller.

I'd like to start it off with a wireless charging kit I purchased that comes with a receiver and transmitter.
The manufacturer is called Yijieneng.
The receiver fits underneath the battery door with no modification required.
From what I've noticed about it, it charges a little faster than USB but not as fast as an AC adapter. (according to the receiver, it charges at 700mAh)
NFC works with this kit.
As far as I've noticed, the range is about 4mm (from transmitter surface to battery case) for there to be a successful charge.
The transmitter emits a small beep when it starts the charge. I've had it next to my bed for the past few weeks and I don't hear it when I sleep if it goes off. It does keep my phone at 100% in the morning.
At this time I'm also creating a custom dock that will put the phone up at an angle like a dock. I have finished the core part of it, but still waiting to finalize the ridge that will hold the phone. I'm waiting to get a certain bumper case before I create the final ridge.
Here's a few pictures of the dock in its current form (it still needs to be sanded and have the surface reworked):

Here's a video of the kit that I shot showing how it works as well as NFC function.

As far as I know, the charging distance is between 4mm to 4cm (if the transmitter is based off the newer standard)
Charging speed
Depending on the receiver it can range from 500ma to 700ma (this is roughly the speed of usb charging or a little faster)
Does NFC Work?
I can't vouch for ALL the Qi kits out there, but the Yijieneng one that I do posses, works. Reference the above video to show that it works.

EDIT 2: There are many members who have asked me where I got this kit from and the best I can and am allowed to disclose is that you would have to look up the manufacturer and contact them yourself. As far as I was reading, various members have actually directly contacted the manufacturer through their website and did their own transaction there. I personally have not done it before so I can not guarantee anything. I also do not know how much they charge nor do I know what kind of payment they take so your best bet is to talk to them. I only have this one kit that I have shown in the video and no it will not be sold to anyone (I like it too much and use it too much for me to even think about giving it up)
EDIT 3: Added info on other Qi chargers. Will add more info and pictures of other chargers and/or receivers as I find them.
EDIT 4: added more info based on what I missed previously .

Absolutely valid points. However I think I'll let the technology mature and adoption to increase a bit more. I'm sure prices will drop drastically.
Just wanted to post a walkthrough video of the Droidax EzyCharge Wireless Charging kit. I'm really considering opening the case up and seeing what kind of receiver is inside and possibly fitting it under the back of my phone and if I do it I'll update this post. Otherwise, I think its a great 3-purpose combo (case, wireless charger and backup battery) especially for the price when compared to the competition. The pad can be sold seperately and charges any device thats Qi compatible so thats always a plus. If anyone finds a cheap and slim Qi receiver being sold stateside let me know I really want to get a couple. Thanks!

The technology is already actively used in Japan, but it has yet to receive a wider audience. Some phones also come built in with with Qi wireless charging like the Droid DNA and the Lumia 920. Hopefully there will be more and more devices that have it built in and then hopefully the "battery covers" for those phones will be sold on sites like amazon or ebay that comes w/ the qi receiver that you can remove and mod into the s3..
I also have the kit in the first post. I like it well enough. I use it at work all day. I am having an issue where I cannot receive phone calls while charging on the pad. Anyone else experience this? I have the leaked jelly bean k1 build. Just stock leak. No mods. Any ideas?

Dose it matter what charging pad I use? seems like you can get a back plate off ebay for $16 but dont want to spend the 50 on a QI pad.
so Can I just get any charging pad or dose it have to be the QI to work or are they just universal?
If the backplate is a Qi compatible backplate, then yes it will work. If you're talking about the palm touchstone mod, then no. They operate on a different frequency.
This applies to all the different standards. As far as I've read, no standard are intercompatible with the other.
i.e: Qi will not work with Touchstone or Powermat. Powermat will not work with Qi or Touchstone. Touchstone will not work with Qi or Powermat.
They send out a different set of frequencies that the other standard does not use/accept.
thanks. that kinda sucks because they sell the other powermat for $10 bucks but QI is 50.ill have to check out the frequency it uses and see if I can find an alternative.
I remembered that Powermat claimed it will work with Qi back in early/mid 2011, but doing a search has shown me nothing. If you order from amazon, you can probably try the powermat transmitter and see if it works, then return it if it doesn't, but I highly doubt it considering they're competing standards.
I'd love it if Samsung came out with a Qi charging kit since it seems to work so well but at this point I'd be happy with anything from them.
samsung is too busy flip flopping between 2 different standards. the contact points are there, you should be able to purchase a zens or yijieneng receiver and get a cheap transmitter from energizer or something.

I have the black one sold on the Google Play Store. I tried again last night for about 5 minutes, trying all sorts of different positioning. No dice. Charges fine when I take it out of the case (obviously), and the Tylt Vu has no problems charging it with the case on (AND with the flap folded back). Baffles me that Google would make two official accessories that don't play nice together. Grr.

On the inside of the backcover there are 2 little copper pins. Can anyone tell me what they do? Or is this just a way to detect that the back is attached or maybe NFC or wireless charging?
AFAIK, the lower two pins are for NFC.
The remaining two upper pins are for wireless charging. (need compatible back covers)
I bought Verizon G4 yesterday at Best Buy, most importantly for the camera and removable battery, but also because of wireless charging, which I've been using for about a year on my Moto G.
I had to add the coil receiver to the Moto G, and it does a very good job of keeping the phone charged. It's slow, but I work at a desk at home all day, so the phone sits on the charging puck, and speed is not an essential requirement.
I was aware before buying the LG G4 that the back had to be swapped out for a "receiver" back, but I was dismayed to learn that there doesn't seem to be such a thing available, at least here in the U.S. The only charging device available is the circle device, and that's not what I want.
When I got the phone home, I pulled the receiver out of the Moto G and slapped it into the LG G4 and tried to charge the phone. I immediately got a note saying that charging had stopped, and the add-on receiver was incompatible with LG.
So much for that idea. Anybody have any thought on anything other than the circle case??

Thanks, Wooz, that looks like it will work on the VS986, but this outfit will not take PayPal, but requires a credit/debit card, and I didn't feel comfortable with anything other than PP, so I did not order from them.
I found a new listing on eBay, and ordered from that outfit, also of course in China.
I don't claim any expertise here, but it seems that the sticker needs to pick up the BOTTOM TWO contacts of the four shown to the right side of the battery. The one I purchased ($8.80, free shipping with PayPal) seems to do that. This outfit also claims its sticker contains a chip for NFC, which I've never used and don't feel is a major item just at the moment. However NFC might turn out to be helpful later, although I'm completely in the dark about its methodology.
The link I bought from is [email protected]
I'll add to this info after I receive the sticker and fumble it into the phone, although probably not as adroitly as the guy in the video.
