5.1.1 runs great on my 10.1. Much smoother than KitKat. I have seen an improvement in battery life. Lag is not as noticeable, but still there (Gallery app is still a mess). S-note still syncs files across multiple devices.
Overall, I would recommend it. I have only really seen improvements, not problems.

If you play any games your battery will drain WAY fast. Ever since 5.1.1 my battery sucks when I play games, yet Netflix and other entertainment apps work fine.

I don't game. I do, however, use my tablet heavily as a comic reader. I have seen a big improvement in battery there. Also, streaming movies has gotten better, too.

I have seen some official releases. My baseband is UBUCNH2 so I'm still waiting for a 5.1.1 relase for this model unless someone lets me know if I can use any other p-600 Lollipop official release without having any issues by doing that...when I find out I will gladly give my review

I been using the Panama release without issues on my 600. You can go here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-P600/ and look for updates. Also look for samfirm program to download the firmware you want to try. Then use Odin to flash the file. There are instructions in the general section.

Just one comment on responsiveness. 5.1.1 faster to me too. At first it was weird because in all my AOSP devices Lollipop is slower and then I remembered that Samsung's version of Android is heavily modified, so I went one and heavily debloated both Lollipop and Kitkat Roms and lo and behold! The KitKat Samsung rom was now notably faster of the two (slower still than AOSP). The gains are in fact even more tractable if you run Linux on top of Android. Linux on Kitkat Roms is about 3 times faster in fact, I can't quite put my finger why is that so.
So -yeah- Stock Samsung is faster if you run 5.1.1 (but still slow by my standards), but in fact KitKat is the least demanding OS...

[Q] I love my g3, but I cant stand the lag. What should I do?

I preordered my at&t lg g3 about a month ago with extremely high hopes, and coming from a jailbroken iPhone 5. Compared to it the UI functionality, battery life, screen resolution, openness of android, subpar camera quality, and many other features made me absolutely swoon over how amazing it was compared to that iPhone garbage. I have one really big problem with it though. Straight out of the box when I revived my lg, I have noticed major ui and app lag. Even after a month, the lag has remained persistent, even after many pointless factory reset and screwing around online to try to find a fix for the lag. I did root this phone, but I know good as well that rooting it did not do anything too the device to affect performance. I just installed some xposed modules such as removing the d delay between taking screenshots, the g3 tweaksbox from the play store (which I highly recommend paying 1.50 for three full version, it's Amazing), and getting rid of ads. The funny thing is, I expected my g3 to perform on par with smartphones with identical specifications, (snapdragon 801, krait 400, 3gb ram, 32gb memory). My brother has a galaxy s5, and I've run many tests between my phone and his, like app performance in games, opening/closing apps, antutu benchmarks, overall ui performance, and his phone basically destroys all off those tests against my phone. WHY?? I do realise that yes, the qhd screen does require more raw performance compared to fhd (I think I read somewhere it was 15%?), but most apps aren't optimised for qhd and put themselves to fhd, so why would a game like fruit ninja run at like 20 fps at fhd on my g3, and 60 fps on the s5, which is also rooted with the same amount of modules? And it's not just arcade fruit ninja either, games like temple run 2 lag when you get to a higher score, apps like tinberman open faster on my jailbroke iPhone 5 then my g3, and sometimes simple arcade games like don't touch the spikes have an occasiaonal stutter when you hit a spike, or just playing in general. I have also seen youtube videos of the g3 vs the s5 with opening apps and app performance, and they perform THE SAME! Plus the Ui didn't lag on YouTube either, my Ui scrolling between app pages (that's the Ui I'm mostly talking about, sometimes I also get lag in the stock browser and messaging app, but that's a different story) dips far below 30 fps, I would be able to tell if it was on YouTube because of the frame rate cap. I'm just fed up with it. I truly do love it though, in my opinion in has the best take on 4.4 kitkat I've seen, and coming from ios I still consider this ROM clean. Now for you, the xda forum what do you think I should do about my problem? I do not want any other phone but the g3. Should I unroot and flash stock Rom back onto my device and take it to at&t? I got this phone through the at&t next plan, so I'm not sure how they deal with warranties. Maybe they would give me a new device if I showed them the problems with it? I am running kitkat 4.4.2 if that helps.
Do what I did where.
Install the leaked 10j, remove the stock launcher and use nova. Also I you want it to fly do the high temp pro and thermal daemon mitigation mod. Be happy.
Like tntgdh I also put nova launcher and there is a little trick I use sony z2 live wallpaper from wssabi and set it to 60FPS. Phone is extra smooth. Under transittion effect od home screen i choose none or you can say generic google.

You should notice smaller app load times, faster boot ups, and better battery if you switch to ART. However, Xposed currently doesn't support it, so you would have to disable it until Android L came along.

Although there are many people out there who swear switching to ART does very little in terms of performance, I think it helps ALOT. Once i switched to ART i noticed the little stutters and little lags go away. My phone feels buttery smooth now. I also use nova launcher which is my launcher of choice, and it also performs buttery. I am very satisfied with its performance. Some may say I am just experiencing a placebo effect, but I think not.

Oh yeah it makes a difference for me too. I Decided to try Xposed after I changed to arp, so it reverted to dalvik. What a difference! I instantly noticed. So I ditched Xposed for now until it had support for arp.
One major thing was to install the 10j.
If you want something that will help a lot.. Install the 10j and use arp... Then if you wanna go further install nova and do the thermal mods.

[Q] lollipop 5.0.2 on Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi

Hello everyone
I own a nexus 7 2013 (WiFi) that is currently running cyanogen mod 11. I would like to try the lollipop's official release, but before doing it I have two questions:
1) does it run smoothly? (If the answer is "no" you can ignore the other question)
2) what is the best way to backup the applications? I don't want to lose my progress in asphalt and all the other applications.
Thank you
Hi, for backup i'm sure Titanium Backup is the best. And i'm asking question 1 too. Lollipop 5.0 was very laggy and unstable. Is 5.0.2 better?
I'm not a fan of Lollipop but it runs very consistently on the Nexus 7. Its not the fastest in the world but doesn't feel that slow either.
Whilst I'd advise anyone to give Lollipop a go on there tablet, I wouldn't say the same for the phone. For me, Google have made too many bad decisions in Lollipop......Lock screen, volumes, keyboard functionality, etc. I'll be sticking with the, "XP," OS for my phone which is KK.

I think I will stay with cyanogen mod 11 , then. Thank you for sharing your experience
You should try it yourself. Do a clean install. Lollipop is WAY better than kk. Faster, smoother, better battery.
Why the hell would anyone stay on kk.

Its funny that I found the developer preview of L to be better in some ways than the finished article. Battery was amazing and the keyboard worked as good as KK but looked like L. Performance was very inconsistent though.
Does anyone know if the memory leak bug has been addressed in 5.0.2

Uh, because some people don't like bugs? And others don't like the look of it. I belong in both camps. Plus, I need to have my Xposed. KK is still the best version of Android, no question.

Frustrated with the slowness of the tablet/ laggy.

Hello forum members,
I'm running into some serious problems with my Samsung Tab S 10.5 (T805Y)
It's really, really laggy. Sometimes getting to the point, where I go back to my 3 year old Ipad due to the slowness.
I'v tried every possible way, installing Nova Launcher, using a program to freeze all unneeded apps (forgot what it's actually called). Also "overclocking the CPU" so it runs at 100% speed all the time, but it's still never consistently fast.
I also can't install other ROMs as it's the T805Y variant. - And I really don't know when Samsung is going to release the Lollipop update to Australia, Andriod M is almost out and Australia still hasn't gotten the ROM.
Any help would be appreciated.
It's not known to be a problem or issue in this forum. Mine is speedy and buttery smooth. I would do a factory reset. I did that after the latest update to Lolipop 5.0.2 and it improved my benchmarks exponentially Good luck mate!

Same here. Right after the 5.02 update I was a bit disappointed with the performance, but after a factory reset it improved dramatically. The factory reset is my standard practice on all my devices any time there is a major version update.
My UK T800 is on still on 4.4.2 and it runs smooth not laggy or anything, makes me not want to upgrade to 5.0.2 when it is released in the UK, on top of the battery problems that have been reported as well.

Anyway, Lollipop really came true and fixed the stuttering for me.

I don't own tab but personally I think lollipop is a failed OS. Too bad for battery life although overall performance is better.
Back to kitkat N9005 Tweaked3.95 + LK3.17
My T800 ran for 260 days on kitkat without needing to be rebooted or tuned off even once now that is stability and i used it every day, when i did turn it off it was just to recalibrate the battery.
Too many reported problems with lollipop from less battery life, to lines on the screen, touchscreen problem, flash led problems, too much white in the stock apps and setting menu, stupid on an oled display.
I rooted my T800 and fixed the microsd problem, added AC3 support to the stock video player so why do i need kitkat, not saying i will not upgrade in the future to android m.
John.
I'm in the process of downgrade right now!
Ye i just flashed lollipop rom yesterday and now im rolling back to kk, i dont know if samsung is just trolling or what. you get a tiny status bar & notif panel then a blown up recent app manager, wtf? Plus no official xposed, and everything is just white & sky blue :/
A lot of people on SamMobile are saying that lollipop is a wasted update as it offers nothing new, and introduces a load of problems, also they are not happy at the way Samsung releases the updates.
http://www.sammobile.com/2015/06/16/samsungs-software-update-policy-is-seriously-messed-up/
John.
For now, I believe they'll keep releasing 5.0 for older devices, and 5.1 for new ones.
Older models will always be one step behind, it's called marketing and forcing "impatient customers" to upgrade their device.
Although I notice these T700 and T800 5.0 versions keep getting patched with new updates and more stability, I believe we'll only get 5.1 when Android M is released for newer devices.
Then after 1, 2, or 3 years from release date and depending on each device, they are forgotten by the manufacturer and software updates are stopped, hoping you'll buy again a newer model, regardless of your device purchase date and condition.
And this in a way, explains why the XDA community is strong.
I finished downgrading. Tablet runs smoother, I can change many things in Xposed and generally, it just works.
Yeah, I choked on the lollipop, but i loved the chocolaty goodness of kitkat, stay on kitkat and don't be a sucker.

In my opinion, I'm on LP because I find it much smoother than KK.
The newer kernel and drivers on lollipop are the main reasons for better performance, which is easily seen in Antutu scores.
The only advantages I find in KK is that it's less buggy and ram leak is better.
When you say performance are you talking about gaming? , if so a lot of people don't game or only use simple games that don't require a great deal of system performance.
I don't game, and i have not seen any laginess on kitkat, i had it running 260 days without any problems i did not reset or shut-down a single time.

With LP you do need to reboot now and then due to ram leak problem.
Let's say LP is faster than KK at the beginning and after a few days it crawls due to ram leak, until you reboot and it's pristine again for the next days.
To be honest, while my initial reactions to Lollipop on both my TAB S and my Nexus 5 was less than favorable, after finding the right alternate ROMs I am very happy. Great performance (I don't game), great battery life, theming that allows me to black out the white menus and I'm very happy on both my devices. Would I be happy on stock? I don't know, and I understand not everyone wants to flash alternate ROMs. What I do think is that Lollipop takes a while to settle in and make sure you don't have an app that is incompatible (Samsung messed with ART). If you dive into it for only a couple of days, and you are really used to KitKat, of course you will want to go back. After using Lollipop for a while now, I would never go back.
Just my opinion. Not trying to sell anything to folks who disagree.
It`s great if you can tune lollipop the way you want, but most people cannot do this, and get stuck on a buggy stock rom until the next official update, which might never arrive, thank-you Samsung.
John.

Tend to agree. At first I wasn't keen on lollipop, but after using for a while and a little tweaking its running just fine. Dont know what this ram leak thing is all about as I've seen nothing of it. I would have thought, whatever that was, almost all manufacturers would have patched it by now including Samsung.

I have lolipop on three devices Nexus 5&10 (5.1.1) and a Tab S 10.5 (5.0.2). Right from the beginning both tablets have been rock solid with a small but noticable bump in speed. On the other hand my Nexus 5 lost its rock solid kitkat stability and no matter what I do, short of re-flashing Kitkat, I cannot seem to fix it.

Assuming you are asking about my Tab S experience, I used the guide in this forum to root without tripping Knox. I had to downgrade to stock Kitkat then root then upgrade to stock Lollipop. As soon as you downgrade using Odin you must do a factory reset in stock recovery, so yes I reset and always after the firmware change. In fact I've done the whole process several times as I've tried theming and every time I changed framework-res.apk it borked the UI and I need to do the whole process again.
At this time I've sworn off changing framework-res.apk. It is not a total write off as Flashfire back ups recover everything like a nadroid backup. Its weakness is that if you cannot start the app you can not do a restore. All that due to not wanting to loose my warranty on a two month old device so cannot flash a custom recovery like TWRP.
I did successfully flash from Lollipop B0E2 to B0E3 (boot, recover, system images) using Flashfire. That upgrade did not require a factory reset. In fact my user data, apps, root (SuperSU) and settings remained intact. All I need to do was re-flash any SuperSU policies I had previously installed along with any apps I installed in /system such as Viper4Android.
Specifically the upgrade and resulting experience was almost identical to upgrading Lollipop on my Nexus devices (5.0 through to 5.1.1), which is very easy and never required a factory reset. Although I usually clear the cache/dalvik just to be safe.

What is your opinion about Lollipop ? Should I update ?

Coming from an iPhone 4S, I am very glad with the Sony Xperia Z1C that I bought a few months ago to replace it. The Z1C is still running on KitKat and it works perfectly fine. It is not rooted btw.
Now I am considering to update to Lollipop, but I wonder if that would be wise. On various forums, e.g. the Sony support forum, I read some "horror stories" (o.k. a bit exaggerated maybe) about decreased battery life, overheating etc. after a Lollipop update.
I already asked for an opinion on the Sony forum, but got an, imo, rather meaningless reply saying that earlier updates also had many complaints and the started thread was locked almost immediately by a moderator after that reply.
Now I hope that I can get some advice here. Is there a more or less general consensus here about updating or not ?
Thanks in advance.
I have absolutely no complains about this update. Still have great battery life, but no overheating or whatsoever. The phone is as pleasant to use use as before the update if not more
Opinions differ. Some specialists from this forum reverted from LP to KK for different reasons.
My personal opinion is that with every step ahead software becomes more complicated, investigates you and your activities in bigger grade and is more troublesome during rooting and personal modifications.
Since long ago my principal rule is: "Don't touch things which work correctly".
I am still on KK .108 however I tuned it in 100+ places to suit my needs.
I had crapy sound problem and don't recommend lollipop yet.

Exactly.
For me, update to lollipop is a completely waste of time unfortunately again on 5.1.1. Poor multitasking, camera quality worst than kitkat (whitish tone on captured pictures and viewfinder lag in medium or low light conditions), battery draining... I prefer stability, performance and battery of kitkat than smoothness or visual changes from lollipop
performance on LP is better than KK. see aututu, it got 2000-3000 points more.
remember its a phone, and its better than 90% of the phones out there. it will never be S6 edge or whatever.
i like the smoothness in 5.1.1. if it was KK it would stand still for a sec or two, makes it feel slow, like this that is covered in animations.
about multitasking, got no issues, FB and the chat are great, instagram is fast, skype and viber work nice. 2 years almost and still kicking.
5.0.2 was laggy, and poor battery life.
5.1 is quick, good battery life, good multitasking.
The only thing worse about LP is the camera refresh rate. It look lower than 20fps (with KK it looks to be 60fps).

From a technical standpoint, according to munjeni, who is well recognized as very knowledgeable in these things, KK is better, (.108 firmware specifically). He has a lot to say about it in his thread for his stock based LP ROM. Personally, I don't know much about all that, so for me it's more about user experience and trying something new. I like to go back and forth. I guess it just depends on what your priorities are.

Well. This IS a point, especially if you have free time to spend.
Otherwise I suggest to root phone, tune sound, camera, fast dormancy, gps.conf, remove bloatware, use better battery stats to tune battery usage, install Xposed modules and do more similar actions.
No comparison to branded phone.
LP is great regarding the user experience (visuals and animations) and I was able to get rid of a couple of apps after switching from KK (lock screen notifications, bt watch keeping device unlocked -> smart lock). Performance and battery life are still ok and I can not notice any difference.
but ... if you are considering moving to cm12.1
you should wait until the wifi / bt bug has been fixed, which is a major problem
and there is an issue with AudioFX (equalizer) that keeps crashing, which is annoying
