HTC 816G bricked - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have an HTC 816G, it is still under warranty period. Few weeks back the rear camera module and the flash stopped working. I did not bother to get the phone checked as the device was functioning properly. Today I noticed that the device was not powering on. After tinkering with it few times, it came alive. Being a Sunday I decided to explore HTC service option and ended up chatting with an Agent(customer service India) who guided me with few basic troubleshooting to try and revive the camera. She directed me to enter the safe mode, which I tried and the phone was stuck at the HTC starting screen. When there was no response, I tried doing a power down by pressing the power button and my device died completely. The tech support requested to take the device to a service center and examine, the catch being the closest service center is away at least 250 kms away (Bangalore or Kochi). Any suggestions or helpful tips to revive the phone, at least get it powered on?

[Q] HTC Desire has black screen

Hello,
I have a HTC Desire S-OFF for a week. I don't think that AlphaRev has something to do with it because I rebooted it at least 6 times since the operation.
The problem began yesterday when it fell from about 2 Ft and the battery went out of the phone. For the first 10 minutes, my screen was looking like a starchart. After that, I removed the battery and now when I try to boot it up, the screen remains black. I can confirm that my phone has booted up because the below buttons are lighten up (when I press on power button) and there is the green LED telling probably that I've got emails. There isn't any scratches or crack on the screen.
I don't know that to do. From where could the problem come?
Thanks in advance.
Vascer
Hello. It's probably a problem from the motherboard, maybe a short circuit or something. If you don't have any esthetic problems maybe you could try and get it to the guarantee and get it repaired for free.
I would be less probably to be a soft problem, since Bricked Screen only comes after flashing some .zip files incompatible.
truy to put your phone in fastboot power+back wait 30 second and then instal the ruu and your phone is back to normal
@UsManyDead. There are just minor scratches on the aluminium chassis but nothing that let me think that I've broken the screen. I'll send it back according to warrenty.
@en_mih. Thanks for you answer. Now they aren't supposed to see that i've rooted and S-OFF my phone?
Thanks for your answers.
nop your waranty is available good luck , wait for the message when you breng your phone home
Good, I'm going to send it to the support by mail. I will get it in ten days according to the technical support I've called this morning. I will call tomorrow because they forgot to give me the adress. Or I will rather ask one of their technicians to pick it up at my home, it is easier.
I will reply again when I will get it back.
Many Thanks.
good luck man
I finally got it back today, their tracking website told it was ready for a bit more than 2 weeks. I had to call the support 3 or 4 times before getting my telephone back (today).
The telephone is working again, they updated and replaced a component. Best news: the warranty worked so many thanks to both of you.

HTC Mazaa broken, any ideas?

Hi,
So i was a proud winner of Microsoft's WPAppItUp competition and recived a new HTC Mazaa. 4 or 5 months of enjoyable use and it decides to break on me. It froze up on me, no buttons responded, so i was forced to take the battery out and put it back in again and ever since it has refused to reboot. Its simply stuck on this screen:
#imgur.com/FhQ1C#
I contacted HTC to get it repaired. They said it was under warranty and so they took it for a few week. It came back in the same condition which i was very annoyed at so i contacted them again, they couldnt explain why but when they proposed i send it for repair again they told me it wasnt covered under warranty.
It might cost alot to get it repaired since parts may need to come from U.S. so any idea if i can fix this myself? I may aswell try because theres no warranty to void. I can't factory reset, i tried power + vol up + vol down buttons? And when i connect to zune it gives me the restoration error C101002E.
Any ideas?
Rob
Sounds like my broken omnia.
Try inserting a fully charged battery whilst holding the power button .
It worked a few times till the omnia went for repair.
Sounds like you do have warranty .
Mobile phones normally do have at least 12 months warranty so ask if it there clearly.
HTC's repair service isn't great apparently bear that in mind

you do have one year of warranty....so try that also
You could also try messaging one of the developer evangelists on twitter -- the fact that you have THAT phone means that you are a dedicated developer.
The fact that the Mazaa isn't sold normally means maybe it wasn't completely ready for production..

Just wait for a long time and the phone will start up again.
Used to happen with me, I waited long enough and the phone OS just started again.
yeah, just reboot it a couple of times and it switches on.
Also, if all else fails, you can just use the Rom for it that I posted some weeks ago. Just search on xda for "htc mazaa ffu"
that should fix it. [and while you're at it, just use the cab sender to update it - mine's on 8107].

[Q] Please help - real noob!

So my One X got stolen for the second time now (yeah, lucky me) and this time I wanted to buy it used. Well I got one very cheap, but it seems to have a software defect of some sort.
I charged it briefly and it actually seemed to work. The red light was on and so I left it for another two hours to charge some more. Unfortunately this did not help (would have been too easy). The guy I bought it from showed me, that when he plugged it after a minute or so, the led would blink red for a few times. This does not happen every time however. I tried the hard reset with no response. I tried to restart it by holding down the top button with no response. Only once it was vibrating like when it is booting, but the screen stayed black and the button row was blinking shortly.
When I connected it to the PC it was able to install the HTC Android Phone USB Device but showed that there was no driver found for APX. I have never seen that one before.
I've tried to find some answers on this board, but I don't understand jack I don't want to learn all there is about smartphones, I don't root them, I don't install anything that doesn't come from the market. Usually. As I said, I am a total noob, so please use noob-language
PS: The seller couldn't tell me anything about the mobile. He said he would sell it for a friend. I fear it's stolen, but that's tomorrows problem since I can't see the IMEI w/o getting the phone to work
The original sim tray has the IMEI on it.
Are you saying that the device is reported as APX in device manager? Then it's back to the retailer or HTC, it's not recoverable.
Thanks a lot for the tip with the IMEI. I went to the police station today and checked it out, luckily it's not stolen
About the software: The PC does recognize the phone as HTC Android Phone USB device, however it also finds another new hardware called APX for which it can't find any software. So does that really mean it can't be fixed at home?
And if that's so would I have to pay if I send it in (I do not have a receipt) or does HTC know whether I have warranty (which should be obvious since this mobile is new on the market).
- Turn off your phone by holding the power button.
- Hold the Volume-Down button and turn on your phone (while keeping the Vol-Down pressed).
- Do you get to hboot?

No, I've tried that before, it didn't work. I did send it in yesterday. They said I should get it back in 10 days time. I hope this is covered and I don't have to pay for it.
Thanks for you help!

Good luck mate! Hopefully you won't have to pay anything
So I did get it back, but it won't recognize my SIM card. HTC told me to send it in again and I am really pissed. I don't want that. It seems to work just fine, it just won't accept the SIM. It asks for the PIN code but then it says my SIM is not right for this network (which is any network I am trying). Any solution for this?
Phone sounds goosed. Get your money back
Any news?

My HTC One X's story (APX)

I bought my phone from second hand without guarantee documents!
A day, me and my OneX went to a restaurant and waiting for food.
I want to check my e-mails and turned on WiFi but the WiFi is can't turn on :S
Ok, restart... bootloop.... factory reset...
After factory reset, i had the menu of languages. I chose my language and the phone can't respond... ok i lock my screen and reunlock my screen. I locked but i can't unlock :S
Ok. I "drop" my phone to another gsm service. I waited 3 month for my phone and he "drop me back" with this message: You phone is unrepairable.
I said What the f***!?
1 month later....
_______
I contact with HTC support. He gave me a Service adress. I send the phone to this service 2013.02.26. ... Today the service sent me a message to my old phone "Your phone repaired, you can take it on our customer service. Have a nice day!".
My phone is fully repaired without documents for 0 price!
Thank you HTC!

i sended last friday also my phone in because of the faulty wifi and bad battery life, really bad battery life...ok and because of another repair center my screen wasn't really original anymore and what do i reading on their letter today as i got my phone back ....lcd screen changed ...now it's again new like it is a new phone ...wifi repaired and battery was changed because of overheating and poor battery life ...WITHOUT paying something i think htc was reading that this all was f*cking us up with the repair centers due to sh*t support and now ....i'm sooooo happy *_*
Well both of you are very lucky indeed. Mine broke over xmas, basically loads of system apps started to force close like android.com and so on. This went on for a week and I got really annoyed and installed ARHD then freeze...nothing. I force restart and it never turned on again, I plugged it into the pc and I got a message saying driver could not be installed and there was an exclamation mark over where the htc driver was. So basically I think it was in some low power state such as APX but I don't know. I think there is confusion over what APX mode is around here.
To OP what made you think you had APX as you claim in the title.
In the end my carrier charged me £ 76.00 because they said I voided my warranty due to me installing what they said was Illegal Software on it. You are so lucky mate.

[Q] Galaxy S3 wont boot passed logo screen please help me!!

My phone was charging while I was taking an nap and when I woke up my phone was off I also noticed it was hot so I turned it on and it wouldn't boot passed logo screen. I then went to bell and they would not replace it because there is a small crack at the top right of the screen which voids software warranty. One of the bell store employees attempted to put the phone in recovery mode but the process was stopped multiple times due to the fact that the phone only powers on for a few seconds. I don't have the money to buy another gs3, is there anyways to fix this. Doing some research on the phone and i believe it is hard bricked or something of that matter
*Update* Went to a cell repair shop, turns out its actually the power button that needs replacing and this is why the phone continually turns off and on and never reaches passed the logo screen. Apparently it's common for the power button to stop working or get all messed up on the gs3, if you have not rooted your phone or played around with the software the power button may be the cause of it not passing the logo screen and your phone might actually not be bricked
me too

Im sorry mate, Bell is awful just a bunch of scumbags. If i can't find any help from here im going to go visit a cell repair shop to get some help. You should try to find some as well, google search cellphone repair shops in your area! I have very little knowledge of software on androids but apparently my phone needs to be flashed
Have you tried another battery. ...thats what I would try. Also make sure all your ports are clean and debris free.

Yes i tried my friends battery, this sadly did not work.
recovery
Have you tried to boot into the phones stock recovery and clear it ? Or how about odin a stock rom ? Just trying to brainstorm, but I seriously do not think your phone is toast. I would try seaching these ideas and see if you have any luck....otherwise search for how to recover a bricked phone for your carrier...the same method might work to get you up and running again???
same thing happening to me...i can boot into recovery/download mode but only for 2-3 seconds and then the phone reboots itself...all started after I dropped it from my sofa earlier today. any suggestions anybody?
turns out it was the power button that was malfunctioning for me..got it repaired and now its working fine..
