Dropped phone from about 2.5-3.5 feet, screen cracked halfway down left side, spiderwebbed, no response and sides bulging, picked it up and threw it at the wall because I was in a heated argument ...
Last words?
When you buy this phone, get a case. There were no cases available when i bought phone, went to radio shack a month later after their 'we have every case for every phone' commercial, they had no case for this phone, was going to get one later today at the sprint kiosk... not anymore. Goodbye Optimus G ;(
You throw things in arguments?
That really sucks man. Sorry to hear it.
Drop results are very hit and miss with this phone it seems. Most people seem to have very good results, but when it breaks, the danged thing BREAKS. Hope you had insurance or some other measure to get a new one soon.
I wouldn't throw this phone even if somebody paid me money to buy 2 of them afterwards. Glad I don't rage like that.
Bought an Otterbox Commuter from Amazon the day I got my phone. Dropped it tons of times, still good as new.
Drop is when you "drop" something and it is pulled by the gravitation.
Throw is when you use force to push something at something.
When you "drop" something 3-4 feet, it will have about the same impact, considering equivalent weight. The resulting impact is affected by only the weight, the distance and the gravitational force. 3-4 feet drop will have a similar impact when using similar weight.
When you throw something, the distance is affecting the impact in a lot lesser matter. The main item affecting the impact is then the force in which it was thrown, so saying your phone is broken “because” of a 3-4 feet drop is a misdirection. The thing that broke your phone is the force you applied when you threw it.
All that to say, get a stress ball dude!

Super easy $60 fix if you want to keep the phone. I just did my sisters in like 10 minutes, just watch the youtube video for it.
If you choose not to fix what would you want for your rear camera. I want to look into getting the 13mp camera to work with at&t but the camera is hard to come by

I would also buy parts as I am in need of the volume buttons. I would buy the motherboard as well. You can even sell the camera if you want. Or if you like donate me the parts? Haha I could really use them.

Didn't drop my phone at all but in my front pocket playing music it suddenly started wigging out. When I pulled my phone out of my pocket, it was the only thing in my pocket, it was cracked! WTF....
Heading to Sprint store to get a replacement!
I did notice when I got the phone that in the bottom left, close to the back button, there was a small indent in the screen. The crack started right there. Also my back button has always been a little flaky.
Dropped mine last night on concrete and got lucky, it just scratched the bottom right corner of the casing. This is a tough little phone. Lol

dropped mine the first day before I bought a case. Luckily it was only 2 feet and onto a wooden floor. Just chipped the chrome ring a little. Bought an otterbox the next day!
Love my otterbox... Not sure why but i've fling'd / dropped this phone more than any other i've had but it's working perfectly still. One drop was bad enough the otterbox cracked around where the charging port was.
Emailed otterbox. Got a brand new replacement in a week!

Hows your M been holding up over the coarse of your experience?
Only a few scuffs on the bezel here, but I use a medium strength case when out and about
Sent from my XT907 using xda premium
So far, so good. No case, and I've had it about a month. No scratches, scuffs, or anything.
Mine developed a pretty nasty scratch on the screen--how, I don't know. I can feel it with my fingertip too, which is quite annoying.
I've had mine about 6 months or so, and I've been using it without any case or screen protector. Dropped it many times, even on concrete. Just few scratches on bezel. Nothing on the screen.
Had mine close to a year now. Bought a case, rarely use it. Dropped it hard on icy cement from a standing position. Which an iPad user found hilarious mimicking the "Droid" startup sound immediately. Picked up the phone, worried, looked at it and it virtually smiled at me. Not a scratch anywhere. Not on the back, not on the screen, and none on the corners.
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
I have a case but rarely use it since it makes it feel bulky in my pocket. I have dropped it many times and really the only scratches on the bezel are there because I keep my phone in the same pocket as my keys.
No case, but I do have a screen protector. had first drop today off desk and onto one of the legs of my chair, but the cracking sound I heard seemed to be the chair. Phone came out unharmed
I have a barely there case along with generic screen saver and mine looks like the day I got it (not a single scratch or blemish). I have dropped it about 10 times and NOTHING. bought mine used btw and it was flawless when I received it. By far the most durable phone I've had so far. Motorola phones in general seem well built.
I'm somewhat of an idiot and decided to test how water proof it was. Fully submerged it seems it could stay there for some time and not be damaged

Had. A Droid X without a case and dropped it a bunch of time even on the road while riding the motorcycle. No crack on the screen, but badly damaged in the body and backplate. Got really impressive by Motorola phone then got myself a Razr M without a case as well. Dropped it several time and got a really small scratches on the bezel, but other than that it's surely a really damn tough phone ever.
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
Dropped onto foot then kicked across uneven concrete sidewalk, leading to small scuffs on back bezel corners. Once smacked it into the rim of a glass, causing a small dent in the bezel. Other than that it's been good.

Yeah, I accidentally knocked mine into the bathroom sink full of water. The micr-sd card was already on its last legs and the water finished it off. And the external speaker wasn't as loud as normal for about a day and a half until it completely dried out. But it works fine now and the sd card was replaced by sandisk's warranty.
I've dropped mine an innumerable number of times on concrete with no damage to usability. My OCD hates the scratches on the bevel, but nothing on the screen or elsewhere. The worst I've had is the bottom part of the case came loose one time when I really, really hit it hard on the ground. Still going fine...
Dropped mine taking out of my pocket, cracked the back glass thing. Then dropped in water sink for a sec accidentally, phone wouldn't work for about a day, now it's fine though. Just not waterproof anymore

too tough
Some time back I was driving a 1994 Cadillac, disgusted with how my conversation had gone, i threw my Iphone4S on to my dashboard, where it bounced and hit the windshield, and shattered the phone beyond useability.... that's what put me in the market for a new phone.
Grabbed a Razr M, and in short time history repeats itself....threw it against the dash, into the glass....the Razr M spidered the windshield....... happy to know I can replace a windshield in a 2006 Dodge Ram for $155, that still $44 less than the deductible for the Iphone4s.

How about this one? This happened the 1st day I had the phone. I was roofing house and the phone accidently slipped out of my hand. I watched it slide down the roof and disappear over the edge then I heard it hit the concrete walkway 2 stories below. I didn't even bother to look at it or let alone want to go pick up the pieces as I figured it was destroyed. 2 of my workers saw the whole thing happen and kept busting me about killing my new phone in less than a day. A couple minutes later I heard a phone ringing and yelled for someone to answer it. The other 2 guys on the roof with me both responded that it wasn't their phone. It took a while for it to dawn on me that it was my phone I had just dropped ringing on the ground below so I decided to investigate. I climbed down the ladder and was amazed to find the phone in one piece with the screen side up. I picked it up hit the power button and was shocked when the screen turned on and had no cracks. I have no idea how the phone actually impacted the concrete after falling off the roof but the only damage was some scrapes on the bezel. I consider the build quality and design of this phone to be amazing especially compared to a friends S3 which didn't survive a fall from a kitchen counter after being swatted by his cat.
Great story! However, in this one, the cat is the Legend!

So I've finally had an incident the old lady and I we're in the midst of a fight and she throws out there you love your phone more than me so to prove a point I throw it at the wall pretty much as hard as I can and of course it goes to the wall unlike other phones which have shattered into pieces.... thinking the worst I'm like oh well... patch up the hole and forget about it... I get home later that day and she meets me at the door saying that we have mice in the wall... I knew when she said that what it was... I tell her to call my phone and sure enough the rattle in the wall she had been hearing was my phone... I cut it out and nothing but some dry wall on the corner... after a vigorous scrub you can't even tell....

Hey all, I recently dropped my LGOG on bathroom tiles from about chest height, without a cover.
And I am pleased to say that I have left with only a few scuffs on the chrome lining.
Now I know that it depends on luck and how it lands, but I must say I am impressed with the phones ability to withstand drops from that height.
I have also dropped it twice before on concrete.
Anybody else feel free to add your opinion.
Mine also felt on bathroom tiles,i was scarred to pick it up,but then i was surprised like you.
Nothing,not a single scratch
Im very pleased with my OG

Dropped mine at work today with protector case. It landed from 1 meter down and rolled. It landed on LCD. When i look at it nothing. My case saved it.
Mine fell from a dressor thats over 4 feet high on to the hard wood floor. It happend twice and not a scratch on the phone. I didnt have a case or screen protector on the phone either. I'm sure the way the phone landed helped but regardless its a very solid built phone.
Mine also fell from my pocket and nothing happened. It really gives the vibe of a really solid and nice built phone. It's such a shame to have to put a case on it since it looks so slim and gorgeous without one haha
One thing I noticed is that without a case I find it too slippery...
On the way to my vacation i sat down next to the road. My LGOG fell 10 centimeters screen down. The screen shatteret. Touch does not work where it hit. So 50% of the touch is not working. :crying:
Well, good i also have my 2 years old LG Optimus 2X with me. That thing has more scratches and landings face down than i can count. :good:
Stop dropping

Mine has managed to slip out of my pocket onto concrete and it was fine.
It has slid down the side of the couch a few times and that's when it got damaged. Got some scuffs in the right hand bottom corner and the chrome was bent, it fell down again last night and the bent bit of chrome came off. Tiny amount, hardly noticable but still, gutted =(
It is such a pretty phone I don't want to put a cover on it but I so need to
I kept some of the plastic strips on the sides that it came with to kind of help it lol
I also find it hard to put a cover onto as the back is simply stunning.
But seeing as it is new and it is on a 24 month plan I must make it last.
A few chips on the chrome sides I can live with.
I did manage to put full knee weight on the back of it, in a tent. I then heard a 'plop'.. The back shattered, but the cracks don't run over the camera - - there is this mini contour, like a millimeter high, that prevented that. All the other times I dropped it ( 3, 4 times) the kind of bookish cover saved the day, as it should. So the back is no more, but with the casing still the front is free of any scratches. The G is a resilient phone.. It just has some trouble with 180 pounds of pressure on a corner Still, pretty impressive, everything works!

you guys are some lucky s.o.bs man i dropped my phone during lunch (im a senior in highschool) and no cracks yay! but absoluteley no touchscreen no no no!!
The phone fell to the ground a couple of times, no issues at all. Also one time I took my guitar from the wall hanger, but it slipped and the headstock hit hard on the screen (what a noise it made!), not even a scratch. I'm surprised.
I have my E975 slip out of my hands while connected to charger when the cable snagged. It flipped around, and smashed onto my table's glass surface over a 6" drop. The entire front glass shattered. Had to replace it myself, the entire front assembly. It was an expensive lesson. I've since slipped on a ugly case
Just dropped my phone from a 4 feet high cabinet last night and there wasn't any crack, scratch or dings, I'm really impressed with the build of this phone

Yeah, it doesn't break as a coconut
Even Xperia U is strong enough to take the impact of falling from a 100kmph speeding bike which isn't possible with Nokia
I've dropped it at least five times from elbow height without any kind of protection. Even dropped it halfway down the stairs
The corners are a bit rough now but the screen is perfect.
I thought this was normal until my gf dropped her Gorilla Glass protected S3 from the same height and the screen actually cracked by the impact (it didn't fall face down).
I realize now that Sony's build quality is much superior
Never,i have it attached to my neck. Impossible to fall.

lost my counts as my son always drop it. still, it never fails me. Thank you Sony for making such a durable device.
I had a few drops from table height, once pretty violently when my girlfriend yanked at the charging cable (by accident of course). It was never enough to really damage the screen, but my screen has had a small crack ever since I bought it. I got it second hand (way back in september 2012 already) and I though the crack was just a hair under the screen protector, but after removing the protector a few months later it turned out to be a small crack.
What is more damaged is the USB cover, it got really loose after a year or so and a few weeks ago I just removed it. The USB port is very ugly now, but at least I don't have that cover flapping around anymore.
Made for destruction
My kid constantly finds and try to destroy it. He have been trying to eat it, used it as a trowing toy and i have it without rubber protection.
Still works fine. Well designed phone :good:

The USB flap gets loose because there's an inner soft plastic part which is glued to the outer flap and it wears out over time...
I glued them back together using a strong adhesive and its good now, obviously not as good as the very rarely used HDMI flap, but its OK...
The only real problem I've had with this phone is the really low in-call volume...

Countless with my xperia S! There is one time i dropped it from chest height, and i tried to catch it, but push it downward instead. The phone screen landed on floor. I tried gluing it back with a pretty strong adhesive, but it didn't stick (adhesive was pretty old though) and it only made the soft plastic harder. The next phone I'm getting will ideally have wireless charging so I don't have to open that USB flap so often and it would also be nice if it were waterproof, I'm hoping the next Nexus will be waterproof.
Did anyone drop a Xperia S in water and still manage to save it?
Oh and true the in-call volume is so low, I have to ask people to say things again (looks really unprofessional when looking for a job, luckily I still managed to get one ) and you can forget about calling from a busy street (I use my headphones in that case). It's too bad you can't test this when buying a new phone, and review sites seem to ignore call quality nowadays..

So today I was outside working on my truck and when I got it finished I had laid my phone on the truck bed and went to return it to my pocket and I completely missed my pocket and dropped it on the pavement. Luckily I had my case on it but later on in the day I noticed that the orientation was upside down (screen rotation) everything looked normal except on the lock screen the camera icon was upside down and when I unlocked the phone, nothing would rotate (yes the screen rotation was enabled). My first thought was... F**K!!! my new phone!!!! Then after a restore, thinking that it would correct itself (it didn't) I was left with the same issue. So I said what the hell I'll drop it (in the case less than 10 inches from the table) on the opposite end it had originally fell (top of the phone hit straight down) and see if it'll work and sure enough it corrected itself! How in the hell? Has anyone EVER heard of this on any other device?

Prolly had something to do with the gyroscope getting stuck or something. My son threw mine today and it hit the wall and landed on the bed. its fine.
I've dropped mine twice worth the s view cover on. The first one was from my lap. Hit the edge of the polished aluminum. Scratched that edge near top. The second hit, didn't actual fall to ground. It almost slipped from my hand and hit my truck hinge. It put a slight chip near the bottom where they put the two little white or black spots on bottom. The device showed zero problems though.

Awesome you got it fixed but that's absolutely a new thing... the orientation is controlled by the accelerator, and there's no moving parts, it's just a chip that measures the micro-flexing of a material due to gravity or acceleration.
I should be either broken or working perfectly... very odd to think what effect a mechanical impact could be having on electric circuits that makes it flip orientation

To safely stow your phone in your pocket, insert the phone with the display facing your leg and with your fingers extended along the back of the phone. Do not release your grip until you have tactile confirmation that your fingers are inside your pocket. If they are, your phone must be inside, too.
This precaution takes no extra time and does not require you to look away from whatever you may be attending to. But it ensures you won't drop your phone by missing your pocket.
I broke mine on first drop. Cracked the screen from two feet up landing flat on screen
