Front Facing Camera Question - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Using the stock camera app, when I switch to the front facing lens, the image looks distorted... almost like it's a fisheye/wideangle. Is this just the lens or something? It really stretches/squishes out my head. What could it be? Or is it just the lens they use?

Looks like something might be on your lens?

I am running elitemod rom.
I think I figured the problem. My camera is cracked.
is it the camera or the plastic lens on the outer case? case you can find pretty easy, if its the camera you may need to find a busted g2/dz and swap it out

It's the camera. I do have a spare g2 but it looks as if the camera module is soldered onto the motherboard.

HTC One Lens Kit

I was wondering if anyone knew the exact diameter of the the camera on the One. I was thinking about ordering this lens kit from photojojo and was told it would fit so long as the camera was smaller than 9.38mm diameter.
The HTC site says 22mm I believe, but I found another spec indicating 9.3mm. Could anybody shed some light?
The specs on the HTC website advertise a 28 mm lens. Unfortunately I'm not incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to lense kits.. Maybe search for one that works with the Droid DNA? I think they're the same lense size.

The 22/28mm size you're both quoting is likely to be the focal length of the lens, not the diameter.
If the add-on lens kit specifies *diameter* then just measure it with a ruler
Looks like it fits pretty well according to a review on phandroid
*I can't post links yet
it fits - but the lenses kinda crop out a bit of the image (you get a circular crop for the telephoto and wide angle ones; fisheye too but it adds to the effect)
That and you do lose out on nfc as the antenna is located in the plastic ring around the camera

I would love to see some sample pics of the product and some of the pictures you took. I'm in the market for one as well.
Stay away from PhotoJojo. You can find the same thing on Amazon for 25% of what PhotoJojo charges.
I had a universal clip on fisheye /macro /wide angle lens kit I got off ebay that worked pretty well. I lost it though, so ordering another set

The car being towed was last week.
The other was last night. Sons birthday, no flash, just candlelight. I did crop the picture afterwards.

Mind sound silly but there is a small protective piece of plastic over the lense that, after 3 weeks, I finally found/removed it.
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I would have to agree, I think you need to see if the plastic protector is still on the lens. I removed mine about 3 days after I got the phone. I was taking pics that looked exactly like yours do, and finally found the clear plastic protector and removed it.
Cannot locate a plastic protector on my lense. The galaxy s4 did have one though.

I'm with you, the camera on this phone sucks ass. I don't know if it's software, hardware or combination of the both. Takes too long to focus, whether image stabilization is on or not, trying to take pictures of your kids? Forget it with this camera, images come out too blurry. I like the smooth motion option on the video camera though.....

Yeah, I saw a thread not too long ago that it's a manufacturing defect, but I rooted with one of the first ways to available, so, tripped knox
I think its the case causing the ghosting and light bleeding. I can see reflection's around lenses bezel and plastic case.

The phone isn't so great at taking night shots with flash IMO. A bit too soft and not as sharp and clear as my s4. The only solution I found was to use another camera app for these type of shots. I settled on Camera Awesome on the play store. Pictures come out the same and sometimes better than my s4 with night shots with flash.

I just tried the Camera Awesome and all it did was say I needed to insert an sdcard before using the camera ??
No other apps have this memory issue
Just took a picture in daylight a cloudy day and check out what the duck looks like! Unreal, total over exposure on the white. Was set on auto with no flash.

Aside from plastic on lense, a couple other things to keep in mind/check:
Camera Mode (Auto, Night Mode, etc)
Focus point (ie. when you tap on screen to focus the picture are you focusing on the actual light or the subject that you want to capture)
Cleaned lense (sometimes a dirty or scratched lense will produce noise images)
Case, which you mentioned (have you tried taking same or similar pics not behind windsheild and without the case in question)
Last, but not least, the camera comes defaulted at 9 MP (vs 13MP advertised). Have you tried setting camera to 13MP and seeing if the quality differs?
Those are all things I would check/keep in mind. My indoor performance hasn't been stellar but I know it depends on scenario. Also, using flash at night will always negatively impact your photo quality.
I would take it in for an exchange. Dont mention anything about if you tripped knox or anything. Just show them the images. I for one bought this phone for the camera and love the pics. They blow my wifes iPhone out of the water and when compared to my bosses LG G2, I still think the Note 3's is better. Sounds like you got some hardware issues.
I was focusing on the duck when I took the image. Will try with case off. I cannot locate any lenses protector on lense. It was clean. Thanks for the tips

Front cam

Is it me or the front cam alway seem fuzzy driving me crazy?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
it also distorts the image like fisheys near the top and bottom.. it's the worst front facing camera ever.. Never buying samsung again. S6 does the same thing..
their camera commercial should say "Look Nanna gained 100lbs!"
Ok thank god maybe that why I fell in love with the 6plus cam

Camera focus laser assist?

The black cover on the back by the flash has a couple scratches on it now I've noticed... Will this affect the camera negatively?

This should not affect camera performance in any way if the scratches are not excessive.
