Updating to 6.0.1 - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry, android noob here (just switched onto a 5X on black Friday), but i have twrp installed on my phone and currently run Marshmallow 6.0. I want to upgrade to 6.0.1 but I have no clue how. Is there a way to do it without losing any data and not having to get rid of twrp? Would flashing a ROM of the update work? Thank you for your time.

search, this has been covered dozens of times, there are even stickies that outline step by step on how do it

Upgrade to 5.1.1 Help Please

I've read around and see multiple starting points to do the upgrade and I guess I'm a bit confused. Hopefully you all can help.
I'm currently still on OB7 Stock 5.0.1 and rooted. I do have TWRP installed as well.
I'd like to update to the latest 5.1.1 and didn't unroot to get the little update between these two.
What's the best way to:
Update to the latest
Not wipe either of my storage areas
Not lose any settings
Gain root again
In other words, I'd just like to update and not flash a clean ROM.
I figure I'll probably have to use ODIN but I'm not sure which files to use or where to find them.
Again, I have read all the threads and they all seem to be different with different starting points and different issues.
Thanks in advance.

Need help on upgrading my rooted LG G3 on stock KitKat (T-Mobile)

If this is posted in the wrong area, I apologize.
I have a rooted LG G3 with TWRP running KitKat. No custom ROM (I rooted it primarily so that I could write to the SD card).
Lately my phone has running strangely lately. It becomes unresponsive for >10 seconds from time to time. Sometimes I press the power button and it won't wake up. So I want to reset my phone and upgrade to Lollipop and load a custom ROM (maybe Cyanogenmod or Cloudy custom ROM). I'm going to use TWRP and Titanium to back everything up on the phone first.
I haven't loaded custom ROMs since my HTC EVO 3D, so it's been a while. I had some (very) basic questions:
If I do a factory reset, will I lose root? I really want to get rid of the stupid non-responsive problem, but I don't want to lose root.
If I load a custom ROM, do I need a specific version of Android to do it? I don't want to load and incompatible ROM and brick my phone.
I've seen posts of people trying to go back to KitKat. Are there any issues with Lollipop that would make my phone issues worse?
Since I can't take OTA updates, how would I upgrade my Android if I have to? Will I lose root if I upgrade?
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Thanks for replying. I have a LG D851 (T-Mobile).
So far I've done a nandroid backup and used titanium backup for apps and data.
I downloaded CloudyG3 2.5. Does this contain the Android update, or do I have to update Android before loading Cloudy?

I just have to boot into recovery, wipe dalvik, system, data, and cache, install Cloudy, and I'm good, right?

Can you go from retail stock 6.0 with locked bootloader to 5.1.1?

I'm... asking for a friend....
But seriously, I tried following the instructions on the "[Guide] Step by Step from Stock N910V 6.0.1 to hsbadr's CyanogenMod 13.0 " thread, intending to bypass them when I got to the point of being able to jump over to the newer roms, and all I got was a boot loop when I tried flashing in 5.1.1. Is it because I'm on a retail 910v or was it a user error kinda thing? I tried multiple times and couldn't get it to boot after the flash, ended up flashing 6.0.1 back just to get my phone back.
I'm also ready to free the bootloader and root this thing. It seems emotion OS is the most popular and up to date now, correct?
I have the CPL1 update from Verizon( Dec patch). I know there are a bunch of threads with how tos, but it's unclear how outdated they are and whether it works with these latest versions. If someone can confirm the best way to go from cp1 to emotion.. Let me know.
Also.. I saw a while ago a guide on how to go to developer edition. Why isn't that front and center anymore? Isn't Dev edition completely unlocked... Why wouldn't I want to convert to dev edition before dealing with any rom changes? If someone can give some clarification I'd appreciate it.
Great news, I went for the plunge and succeeded. Confirmed -> stock and latest version software as of Jan 20 2017 (CPL1) can be downgraded to 5.1.1, rooted, TWRPed, and blah blah. I used the same guide you mentioned at top (hsbadr's CM13 guide), except i stopped at step 52 and continued to install emotion OS instead. Highly recommend it.
I'm on EmotionOS now. Wow, it was really worth it. So smooth compared to touchwiz 6.0.1. Haven't found a bug yet, but even if i do, i won't care.
I'm not sure what you mean "when i got to the point of installing newer roms". If you got to that point, why were you trying to flash 5.1.1 again?
How did you root it? I flashed mine back to 5.1.1, but I'm not having any luck rooting.

Follow the guide. You are going to go through a complicated process using the king root apk. I think the guide makes you use king root 3 times total to accomplish various parts of the process. King root loads up and spins for a few minutes, eventually succeeds, then you gotta punch in some things to command line using adb. I believe this is rooting your phone a few times.
Eventually you end up with twrp bootloader and jasmine Rom and everything just sticks.
So far.. The only annoying thing with emotion is that I lost volte and video calling. Maybe they'll bring it in one day.

Can anybody quickly check my specs before I mess the tab up? :P thanks!

So..
My note's battery is pretty bad now, if I use a drawing software it will sometimes go from like 50% to 15% in minutes and then immediately after to 5%. I am almost 100% sure it is due a battery replacement but, since I always wanted to try rooting it I thought to do this as well anyway and see if it gets better.
(I've rooted my galaxy s4 a few times in the past but it was really long ago, so I somewhat understand what needs to be done but just need confirmation lol).
I plan to insteall Lineage OS 14.1 on it.
Question: it says that to do so you need to have a lollipop bootloader. Then it says "If the last Samsung ROM you had was 5.1 Touchwiz, you already have lollipop bootloader and don't need to follow these steps.".
I am on 5.1.1 as this never received any further update. On Droid Info it says: Bootloader P600UEUDQF1. OS version Lollipop MR1 (5.1.1).
So, I don't need to follow that step, right? I know, it's the dumbest question ever but I am not sure about it still.
Secondly... someone just please kindly confirm these are the correct steps:
1- (if needed) do the bootloader thing
2- install twrp. On the guide it says it must be ShevT's from here:
As far as I understood from the guide, rom already has root so I don't need that
3- factory reset from twrp
4- flash rom from twrp
5- flash gapps from twrp
Done?
Am I missing something?
Thank you a lot for taking time to confirm this

Help Upgrading from Stock BPA1 Firmware (5.1.1) to Latest Stock CQL1 (6.0.1)

Hello,
I have been on BPA1 for a long time for a number of reasons, mainly I was afraid to upgrade and lose the ability to unlock the bootloader if I eventually wanted to do that. I disabled the OTA update notification and service a long time ago. But I am ready to upgrade now because I want WiFi calling on 6.0.1 and many apps are stopping support for 5.1.1.
I have looked around at these forums and I think I understand how to upgrade to 6.0.1, but I would appreciate an idiot check.
Current status:
Fully stock 5.1.1 N910VVRU2BPA1 Firmware
Goal:
Fully stock 6.0.1 N910VVRU2CQL1
Proposed steps:
Download and extract ODIN: ODIN3-v3.13.3.zip
OTA Update from N910VVRU2BPA1 to N910VVRU2CPD1: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24572369360126104
Flash N910VVRU2CQL1: (have not found this file yet)
I have a couple of questions about this:
Will this wipe the data on my phone (e.g. installed apps, settings, etc.)?
If so, is there any way to get to CQL1 without having to wipe my phone?
Am I missing anything?
