Bricked? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Used the latest NRT to unlock and root my Nexus 5x.
After I have done everything the program told me to do, I ended up wanting to install the BusyBox files. But it failed, and I cannot enter Recovery.. I can start the phone and everything, but enter Recovery seems to be impossible. But I know I got to enter it as I Rooted the phone. All that happends now is something that looks like a dead droid with a red triangle on it...
Any tips on how I can get past that?

Try fastboot flashing factory image to completely start from scratch

Fastboot flash recovery <twrp_recovery.img> use the volume keys to key up to "Recovery" hit the power button and there ya go.

Had to install the twrp manager from play store, and install it from there, but after that it was a cake walk...
Thanks for the input though.

Wish I read this earlier. Had the same issues as you decided to just the skipsoft tool kit to root it again. Installing twrp for the play stop seems a lot easier.

[Q] Am I bricked?

I'm not sure where to go from here, I rooted my Nexus, installed CWM, and everything was fine. Until my dumbass decided to reboot to recovery from ROM manager, didn't think it would hurt anything. Now, whenever I try to load recovery from my bootloader, the android pops up with the swirling ball for a second, then comes up an android laying down with a red triangle with an ! in it.
I tried factory reset, started from step 1, locked the bootloader and unlocked and rooted again. If I flash CWM, it will work the first time, but anytime after that my little hazardous android symbol pops up again unless I flash CWM again. I'm new to all this obviously, so any help would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I would recommend just flashing a factory .img threw adb. That should do it.

You're not bricked. Flash CWM and then use Root Explorer or another file browser and navigate to /system and delete reboot-from-recovery.p
You will now be able to boot into recovery.
Awesome thanks for the replies you guys are great. The ordeal ended up causing my phone to reject the sim card for some reason...just got back from Verizon. I'm trying the file manager route first but it's telling the file is read only?

Nevermind...hit the r/w...like I said...noob. Checking recovery now thanks again...

Follow the instructions for How to install CWM in this post. Once you've done that, you'll be able to find the reboot-from-recovery.p in /system. Just delete it and you'll be good.

[Q] Phone wont go into CWM recovery..

Hey there. I am trying to get my phone to run cwm. I tried both the touch image and the image that comes with the htc one v toolkit. Fastboot installs it no problems but when I try to go to recovery either by adb command or through the phone direct I get the "This build of HTC is not be distributed" message when I rooted the phone a while back but it just hangs there..
Please help. I really dont like having to hold down the power button for 10+ seconds praying it wont brick.
P.S. I did try to install CWM through the normal way on the play store. I thought it would work cause it detected my phone right and didnt warn me. SU did tell me it was doing something in some .sh file. I uninstalled cwm before trying the fastboot methods.
John
I suggest using the "all-in-one" tool from the Development Thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676686
and then use "boot into recovery"
I finally got it to work by using TWRP. had to find one that specifically said CDMA/Virgin Mobile.
Thanks for your help.

Also, if you get stuck on bootloop after unlocking bootloader (This happened to me couple times), do a factory reset in stock recovery to fix:
Thanks to shimp208 for the sideload method and working CWM, ChainFire for awesome SuperSU and to all the developers who are worked on CWM recovery!
So the CWM that was just updated by Koushik on CWM does not work properly or does it work? Was asking based on this
While CWM Recovery is still being fixed

Edit: There's no driver issue if it were on a Mac right? Especially adb sideloading the CWM SuperSu zip?
How do I flash the stock recovery? CWM isn't working and I tried to update the driver like in the video but couldn't find the "manta" that I needed to update. I'm just stuck in bootloop animation now. I'm downloading the stock image right now to try and flash it back to stock..

If you go into fastboot mode then choose recovery to get to the screen with the red triangle, keep pressing the power button and volume buttons randomly until the stock recovery pops up. From there do a factory reset and it'll work, I just did it to mine!
I flashed the CWM recovery img so when I do what you say it takes me to the bootloader screen and says Downloading. No red triangle. It boots into CWM and then after 20 seconds restarts itself and hits the bootanimation loop. Any clue what to do next? Trying to flash the stock image but having issues using cmds in windows cmd
*edit
I cleared cache through cmd and i got to the red triangle...thank ****ing the lord. DTWAZERE, I will remember tonight. Thank you for your help.

Thing is it will delete the CWM recovery when you leave it so you'll have to reflash it, which is why this is so unstable!
I had the exact same thing as you and this is what I did:
Press the power button to turn it off while it says downloading
Hold both volume buttons down and power on to get into fastboot
Choose recovery
Press power and volume buttons randomly when the red triangle appears until you get stock recovery
Choose Factory Reset
Reboot
You should be able to get back into the rom that way,
to root it you need to boot into fastboot again, reflash the recovery, and sideload the superuser apk

Yeah this is exactly what I did and it worked. I'll wait on flashing anything until there's a stable recovery. I was fairly confident in what I was doing until that happened. Not being able to input commands from cmd prompt made me sick so I'll wait for a dev to release something that works without having to quickly install the drivers again within a 15-20 second timeframe. Too much stress.
cant boot
I got a huge problem.
I follow the step and going on. Ive seen the done in CWMR. But the tablet cant boot.
It stops in the second animation( X mark) cant boot in os.

How do we get back to stock? Might need to reattempt this.
If you are stuck on the boot animation (X) screen... power off your device and enter fastboot mode and then type fastboot -w... I has this problem and this fixed it!
NOTE: fastboot -w will wipe your internal storage completely

THIS WORKED!!
Youre a genius. thanks!
When I try to install the manta drivers manually and tell it to search the same area that it searched and found the android bootloader drivers for fastboot mode it says that the drivers couldn't be found and installed. Am I missing something? Also if i try to do fastboot flash recovery it gives me an error message stating that it cannot determine the image filename for the recovery image.
Well i guess i did it the long way around.
Went to https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#mantarayjop40c
and downloaded the Nexus 10 file. extracted, and the actual files in the Nexus10Root folder.
Opened the flash-all.sh and entered each command manually because it was erroring out running the script.
After the 3rd command it booted right into android!

Can't flash a recovery ROM to HTC One Verizon

I might be doing something wrong but I can't flash any recovery ROMs to my HTC One. I used rumrunner S-off today and gained root access with my stock ROM. I tried using command prompt to flash a TWRP recovery ROM, and it only worked once but now whenever I try to do it it says either "cannot load image" or gives me a partition error.
I tried going into recovery with the one I flashed and when it says entering recovery mode it either goes into a continuous reboot cycle or proceeds to the lockscreen. I tried using flashify today too and it says my device isn't compatible with any of the recovery ROMs.
Please help, I'm so frustrated and all I want to do is flash Android Revolution to my HTC! Also, was I supposed to factory reset my phone before all this? Because I still have all my apps, photos, data, etc.
P.S. I'm a noob at this stuff so I might be doing something wrong.
Try Flashify from the play store. Put the recovery on the Flashify app and flash if.

we will need more information about what all you've been trying and the results.
s-off was successful?
bootloader locked/unlocked?
what are you typing into the cmd prompt?
result from that cmd?
where did you get the recovery from? are you sure it's for the vzw htc one?
etc...

S-off was successful.
Bootloader is unlocked (And somehow the phone became rooted in the process)
cmd prompt: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
cmd prompt kept saying something about unable to load the image
Got the recovery from ClockWork Mod - It is Verizon HTC One version
Thank you guys for your concern but I figured it all out. I used an all-in-one toolkit and it flashed my recovery without a problem. Now I have a Nandroid backup for stock rooted ROM, and flashed BoneStock onto my device! It is all working great and my battery life rocks!

OK first off make sure the recovery you are trying to flash ends in m7vzw.img second, Flashify doesn't work for everyone so you might have to do it from adb on your computer. And finally, there is no android revolution rom for the Verizon htc one.
The developer of Flashify has a thread in Android developing and hacking/ apps and games / Flashify. Sometimes these threads have updates posted before the play store does. Start at the back of the thread and read toward the beginning, find the latest info faster (about a 25 page thread).

You should try to do these things without using all-in-one kits. It's best to know what was done in case something goes wrong in the future. My guess is you were most likely trying to flash the wrong recovery.
Well, at least you're up and running!

Thank you for the tip, I will remember that the next time I flash a recovery to something. It was the correct recovery, but for some reason the fastboot and adb wouldn't flash it. Maybe I just needed a reboot of pc or something...
Had the same issue after s-off with twrp. Ended up flashing cwm touch instead and it works just as well. Although I do miss twrp.

Bootloop and corrupted recovery

So I got an adapter (Finally) for my nexus 5x. Went home and got the WugFresh nexus toolkit. Made a backup, and things were going fine, and then hit root and install twrp. It installed and booted into twrp, and it gave me the not rooted message and rooted me. I restored the backup. So I rebooted it, saw it was doing the boot animation, and came back this morning to it being dead (I had it plugged into my desktop, thought it wouldn't have lost more than 1% of battery when I woke up). I tried booting it up, and it was booting forever and I concluded was bootlooped. Now, when I try to boot into recovery, I get the little android guy dead with the red triangle on top of him. Please help, I'm 14 and don't really know what to do because all my previous rootings went fine. Thanks!
You are on stock recovery. Flash TWRP if you want custom recovery and flash/wipe, or use the factory images to go back to stock. Any experience with adb and fastboot? I'd recommend using fastboot so you have an idea of what's going on and understand how to fix your phone in the future.

I know fully well about adb and fastboot. I've rooted all my phones before this manually via them, and i just tried the toolkit because a friend referred it to me. Like i mentioned before i'm in a bootloop and i have no access to it in adb. It just doesn't get recognized.

yeah when i try and boot into recovery is when i get the red triangle above the android guy. there is literally no recovery there. Otherwise, yeah i would flash the firmware
Help!!! My Nexus device is totally messed up. It has ______ problem. What do I do?? @ wugfresh.com since you're already using that toolkit.
if your pc/NRT doesn't recognize your phone check the drivers and consider reinstalling them (the toolkit apparently has an option for that as well). also try playing around with the rotation of your adapter/cable. yes, usb c is supposed to work both ways, but some (cheap) cables seems to have different properties depending on the rotation.

There is, its just the stock recovery. Go to the bootloader and flash TWRP using fastboot. If you have driver issues you might have to manually select the driver I normally have to the first time.
