Flashable radio zips? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed the Pure Nexus thread finally has created a vendor.zip so I'm wondering if there are any radio.zip files anywhere?
Sent from my LG-V500 using Tapatalk

I think flash via fastboot would be better and fast.

I don't agree. The need for a pc and proper cable, drivers etc at all times is a pain. If fastboot is so great then why do rom developers package their work in zip files?
I posted this thread with the intent of asking if radio.zip files where posted anywhere. Not a debate on why we should use fastboot. I have been around xda long enough to know where your comment will take my simple question. Not looking for that heated debate of noob or lazy vs computer expert and negative comments.

Galaxy Nexus won't boot properly, looking for pointers

Basically I made a mistake and encrypted my CM9 install and then CWM wouldn't recognize my sd card partition so I can't flash roms. I then made another stupid mistake and tried to use boot manager to boot another ROM. Now it just hangs on boot. I can get into ODIN mode and into recovery but I can't do anything.
Please advise.
I'm just going to start by saying all questions go in Q&A. Not that I particularly care but there are many people that do. Can you boot into boot loader? Is it unlocked?

Ok, disregard my post. I seem to have fixed it. I used odin to reflash everything. I followed the instructions from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426207
Downloaded Odin from here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?p4ur1ynojpwlqtk
Used the samsung drivers from here:
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-nexus-all-things-root/451898-galaxy-nexus-adb-usb-driver.html
And the image from here:
http://min.us/mbpseAX5uz
I had trouble finding them all so hopefully this helps people in my same situation track everything down.
Lol the hell man. Anyways, thankfully it worked out.

If maybe a mod could move my thread I would be grateful. I didn't notice the sticky about the Q&A forum. I don't post too often on XDA (mainly lurk) so I didn't even think to look.

Can someone point me in the right direction

I will be getting an et4g in a couple of days and it is already rooted. Just wondering where I should start to learn ask of the things needed to flash, update, and things of the sort.
thanx in advance.

Thanks.
I checked that wiki thread just not sure what to start on. The whole modem thing is confusing, as my past two phones were the og evo and the e3d.

You will need to get the Kies samsung drivers installed on your PC
you will need to download Odin or install Mobile Odin on your phone
use Odin to flash kernels, Roms, and modems (tar files or MD5's)
If the kernel you flash has a custom recovery, you can use it to flash ZIP files of different ROMs, Kernels, or other add-ons for your rom (themes, tweaks, etc). You can also create back-ups with it.
start there
Feel welcomed already. Not to knock my fellow evo bretheren, but had I made a thread similar to this in the e3d q&a the only response I would have received would have been "search works wonders" or "You ever heard of searching".
I'll start reading up on odin tonight. Thank you.
Modems aren't confusing at all. Any modem can be flashed with any rom. Simple enough, yeah? Flash a modem through a .zip file with a custom recovery or unlocked recovery. Or flash a modem through a .tar file (I think) through Odin. No problemo right?

I was just told that, modems to samy = radios to htc. So that clears up all the confusion for me.
It was kind of overwhelming to see so many. But then I have to remember, "unlocked bootloader".

There is a lot of info here and it can be a daunting task trying to narrow down even the basics at times. Just a few pointers to get started isn't to much to ask
also................google is your friend (don't forget that one lol)
1. Don't bother using Kies to connect your phone to the computer, download the full samsung driver suite here and install it. If Kies is already installed, remove it.:
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...342248/Sprint_d710_USB_Driver_v1_3_2360_0.exe
2. Since you're new to flashing on this phone I normally recommend sticking with Gingerbread, at least for a little while. It is safe, stable and fast. The multitude of ICS roms may seem tempting but come with a certain amount of risk if you're not familiar with the flashing process. It would be a shame to brick your new shiny phone.
3. Here are the basic steps to root and add Clockworkmod recovery to your phone. Qbking has a ton of video howto's out there, view any you can lay your hands on! :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24158551&postcount=9980
4. Once you're on stock rooted from step 3, you can download and flash any (Gingerbread) rom you want. I think the 2 most popular are Calkulin's and Blazer's roms but there are a bunch of others. They can be found by searching the E4GT development forum. Please follow the directions for flashing any ROM closely on the developers' OP.
5. Ask a lot of questions first! Better safe than sorry.
Edit: I know your phone is already rooted but the #3 above is how it gets done. If you ever have any problems, that is the safest way to wipe out the current setup and go back to stock rooted.

Odin Custom ROM Project

So what is this?
I have always wondered would it be safe and easier to flash custom roms using Odin if we had odin packages for custom roms. So I started to poke around and research. Rwilco12 has been a great help. I was working on this before new year and was getting somewhere. I had created quite a few full Odin tars for couple ROMs but none of the packages had successfully flashed the whole ROM. These tar packages are similar to the stock .tar files that sextape posts but they are rooted and are not stock Sprint builds.
As some of you may know, I got sick and caught flu on new year so had to stop working on this and hasn't worked on this since 27th Dec plus now new college semester has started so I am somewhat short on time.
So the reason I am posting this here is that I want to know from you whether you would be interested in using Odin to flash custom roms? OR Would you rather continue to flash custom ROMs using CWM?
If more people are interested in this and would seriously use these to flash custom ROMs then I will continue to work on it. I want honest responses. I wouldn't mind a bit if you think Odin custom ROM flashing is not the way you would go. Also you can use the poll for your response.
I will appreciate any useful responses.
Im actually working on something similar for my Note 2 rom. Gonna have the choices of a zip, tar or aroma install. Going the extra tar route to include files for people rolling back from higher firmware with errors so they dont have to flash modems and the fix separately and can just odin 1click back. It would actually probably work well for any rom it makes it much easier for a noob to flash without fear of using an unsafe kernel on et4g and without having to learn everything all at once before they can try something out. Odin has been fairly safe for me minus one incident with a leak when I flashed an incomplete tar and bricked nyself but other than that never had a single hiccup using odin with complete files. It would make it easy for people to flash without recovery as well since they could mobile odin the new rom instead
I give this idea :thumbup::thumbup:

It has its ups of convenience but is not practical for developers. From my understanding, it is much easier to break into a zip file to update stuff for the new builds fix bugs and find bugs to fix, as well as it being easier to build a zip to flash. Also, as the end user of a ROM, I like to go in and add or remove things before I flash my ROM. I can't do that easily if at all if it is Odin based.

I heard you, I just had no clue how to pack a tar for odin yet lmao. I know how to create one in linux in place of a rar or zip file but didnt have the first clue what I needed to pack for odin to pick it up and flash. Now I have a nifty little tool that builds the oneclicks for me

But how many of the average users have either a dedicated Linux box or even a VM to do that? On top of that, How many of the average users that don't have either want to set all that up then learn those commands to unpack the tar, edit what they extracted, re-pack it, then re-sign the tar? Yeah there are programs that will pretty much do that for you, but like I said, it is more convenient to keep the official and unchanging builds for Odin and and keep the custom ROMs that are changing every week in the zip format.
Why try to fix something that isn't broken and is much easier to do?
Am I saying "no you can't do it."? Not at all. If you want to spend the time to do all that, go for it. But I can bet you money that half of the developers that are pushing weekly and nightly builds will not want to do all the extra stuff. Look at the bigger picture, most people want pure convenience. There are also big risks with flashing ROMs via Odin.
Bricks being the biggest one.
This topic has been brought up quite a few times in many device forums including this one, and what I have said has been said by many others.
It's just not logical.
That's why im giving 3 install options. Zip tar and aroma. You choose how you wanna install each have their own pros and cons. The biggest pro for odin is I can pack fixes that cant be flashed in a typical zip and can AIO everything so its a single flash and not a zip stack to get it working
I like to break stuff!
If a developer wants to offer tar files for their ROMs then they can do it. It is their decision, not the end user.
Just because you want to dissect someone else's work, does not mean that they are going to cater to your every desire.
Yes, there are risks in flashing via Odin such as flashing the wrong pit, boot.bin, data... but if the developer has tested the tar like all developers should always be testing their own work before releasing to the general public. The only other issue would be bad downloads, which it is entirely up to the user to always check the MD5 before flashing.

My thoughts are that it is great for a noob. That is they only want to flash a rom and run with. If you are a dev or like me trying to get the hang of theming and more the zip is the way to go. It its possible to brick your phone ether way. But its is much easer for the noob to do a one click than installing a cwm zip. That they tend to mess up and post after post about all the problems. LoL
But for a dev I can see the problem. I say yes sofpr the noobs. We were all anoob at one point in time. Thanks op I was thinking of this too.

Well, in the words of garyd (search if you don't know to whom I refer to), it seems that 75%, or more, of people aren't here to dev.
I'll be honest; when I first came here a short time ago, I wanted to root so I could add all the tweaks and themes because a fellow co-worker showed me what could be done. Then the inner geek came out and now I am like a dog on a squirrel going tree to tree trying to soak up all I can. Just gotta focus..
My point = this is a place for "stuff". I'm not taking away from the roots of XDA nor it's intentions because I now understand what a dev told me (Venum, cough, cough, good guy, cough) - This is a place to learn.
I hope Blues follows through with this because he can help me figure out where I may have failed or vice versa.
Who cares about the "numbers" that want it..
Ask a teacher - "If you can reach one.. " What they'd say..
My 2 cents... I have always kept a blu kuban nandroid that is a fully functional backup that's ready to go if I crap up the phone and don't have time to rebuild before say going to work. Even if it's out dated, it's ready to go. To turn said backup into a one click would be that much cooler if the recovery is blown too. Could a script be made to turn a nandroid folder into a one click?
As for the roms being released for odin, it sounds cool but I would miss adding stuff like swype and other system apps myself.

Thanks. So far I have used couple ICS roms. Took the system folder and packaged that into factoryfs.img and then a blank data.img and zimage with all remaining files which are standard in stock .tar such as boot.bin, param.lfs etc to create a full rom .tar. It flashes all the parts but when the time comes for it to boot, it goes to samsung flash screen. Tries 2 times to boot and then boots into custom recovery (agat for the zimage I used).
Rwilco has suggested couple things but haven't had a chance to try those so may be I will get on it!

PC meaning Windows PC, or PC meaning computer period? I've used heimdall with success if you're lacking windows.
If you don't have a computer, a quick Google search says you're screwed. There is a thread on the international section, but you can't use the files linked there. (unless you like hard bricked devices)
Your best bet is to borrow someone's PC for 20 minutes and install a one-click rooted ROM. Don't forget to download the drivers first.
If you just need to root try exnyos abuse. I'll look for the link

Get your PC up already, your creating a strain in the brain.
Lol.
Pp.
Transmitted from another galaxy with a Jellybean infused P-5113 full of Unicorn porn.
What you can do is download with your phone an original Rooted OTA of FI27 make sure it goes to your external SD card. Rename that zip file to "update' and make sure you keep the .zip extension and then boot into recovery. Go to install update from SD card and go through the steps. It will install the full FI27 ROM with stock recovery. It will be rooted. Then you can go to the play store and get an app called OTA Root Keeper. Use that to keep your root while you update back to FL24 and then restore root with the same app. No computer needed. Also, you can use a fully stock no root OTA of FI24 and then use exynos abuse to root with.
As always, make sure you back up all the crap you want to keep.
Or you can get a full OTA FL24 zip file that is rooted and then do what I said before in reference to downloading it on your phone, making sure it is on your external sd card, re-naming to 'update' and then going into recovery to flash it.

I suggest reading the stickies in the general and development threads before proceeding with any flash though. Just so you are familiar with any and all things well... Most things. If you have any questions, please do ask. I may not be able to answer, but there are many who can.
Oh... Grab mobile odin. Either through here or the market. Preferably the the market. Yeah it's a paid app, but it's worth it.
In the link, grab the ota/stock ROM you want in the '.gz' format. You will need to extract the file inside it to flash through mobile odin. It will not flash the modem. You can grab the modem from The website I linked though. Make sure you have at least 50% battery or it won't flash and your phone will just reboot.

New to nexus 7 (2013)

I'm getting a used n7 so I've been reading up on it.I've a few ? about unlock/root/recovery.I'm currently using a S2 and I'm pretty good at flashing and fixing issues.I'm used to using cwm recovery. With the S2 custom recovery was usually in the kernel.Once I got custom recovery I could do whatever I needed.
The terminology on the n7 is a little different then the s series. So I'm trying to lean that. The unlock/root sequence looks straightforward. The recovery is where I'm still a little uneasy with.I haven't used adb before.Would like to stay with cwm for now.Given that, can recovery be gotten by using Odin?I haven't seen any links for recovery .tar files.
Are there any threads comparing setups between Samsung S series and nexus tablets?Or other threads with pertinent info?Any help is appreciated.Thnx in advance.

Forget Odin. Say hello to fastboot and adb. Please don't use a toolkit until you have a basic understanding of how both work. Once you get the drivers installed and the SDK up and running, there's only a few commands to learn.
There's no reason to feel uneasy nor overwhelmed, just follow the guides in the General sub-forum step for step and you'll be fine. If you can unlock and root a Samsung, you can unlock and root a Nexus with ease. Seriously, you'd have to try to brick a Nexus to actually brick it.
