I've searched for this similar problem prior to posting. Forgive me if I overlooked it. My total storage space is 12.05 GB (16 GB version). Here's the breakdown of what's currently used:
Apps - 0.93 GB
Audio - 220 KB
Downloads - 522 MB
Available space remaining 5.73 GB.
What's occupying the other (roughly) 5 GB of space?? It was showing a lot more accurate prior to trying out custom ROMs. Currently running cm-10 9/02 update. Had the same issue running Paranoid Android cm-10. Any ideas?

It turns out the storage space I was referring to is being taken up by CWM blobs (over 3 GB). Thanks for your help though

Could you please post the path to where you found that 3 GB of CWM Blobs.
Thanks
I am just so pissed that I bought this phone because we can't move our apps to the SD card like you can on almost all other android phones. I can't understand, with all the great developers on XDA that this hasen't been addressed. Am I the only one that really finds that apps to SD is really helpful?

I found this frustrating also. I didn't think twice about buying the 16GB AT&T since it had a MicroSD slot and I was under the impression that apps could be installed on SD just like pre-ICS android devices. I have a Nook Color running CM7 and it is soooooo flexible with storage. One plus, it does seem a lot harder to fill android devices with 12Gb of apps than my IOS devices.
I think it would be a lot better if the OS at least tried harder to reserve the internal "SD" for apps and pushed data, music, downloads etc... to the external SD if installed.
I am really happy I found HighOnAndroid ROM. It actually swaps the SD card and internal memory so that the phone now has 29 gigs. The rom is smooth and the battery is great. This is the only rom I know of that even deals with this storage issue at all (as far as I know)

Thanks, I cleared mine also.
I have to ask this again. I don't think many of the dev look at this General list but here goes.
Why are all the devs (from what I can see after many hours of reading and trying roms) ignoring this storage problem we have on the G3. I would think that this would be right up there at the top of the list as this phone almost renders a 32gig or 64gig card useless.
Like I said above, I am using HighOnAndroid ROM which is the only one that even comes close to addressing this issue by swapping the external SD with the internal one giving me 29gigs on my 15gig S3 (again, excuse me if I am wrong here).
I was planning on going back to stock when JB comes from sammy but without this fixed I either stay with HighOnAndroid ROM or get the new Note 2.
So I don't know what is going on with my phone.
At one point it said it was complete full, yet I couldn't find the files that were so big that i had filled up 15 GB already.
So I did a factory reset, which work for all of 10 mins. The space I had taken up had been reduced but I still got the message even after rebooting the phone.
I have attached screenshots which I hope further clarifies things.
I'm tempted to try and go back to a stock rooted room but I'm not sure that will even help.
Anyone that can offer any kind of advise would be a god sent.
Ok, so your internal is just about full. Move some stuff to the external SD.

I think he was saying that his cards not really full that there's a problem.. and from the graph of his internal if he was really full, that bar would be fully across not a little piece of it.
Flashing roms can push your sd contents into strange places. I had it happen once.

I was getting full at one point myself, and I found a utility called Disk Utility to help me find out where all of the storage was going. Turned out it was from downloading nightlies and they get tucked away in some inconspicuous place. This may, or may not be your issue, but it's worth a try. Good luck.

Yeah, that and nandroids are usually the culprits. People don't realize that 1 uncompressed backup can be from 500mb to 1.5GB.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
My TWRP backups are always around 2.2GB lol
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Touchwiz backups usually start at around 750mb because of all the TW bloat. Lol. And I can see easily have 1.5GB of apps+data.

So does anyone have the
DBT-I9505XXUBMEA
version for T-mobile yet?
Official, leaked, any.
It is only for the i9500 and i9505 so far. It appears to have fixed the blurring/tearing issue and allows you to move apps to the SD.

Hopefully this isn't samsungs answer to having only 9 gigs of usable internal storage. I still want them to "optimize" the phone so that we can at least get 12-13 gigs of usually internal storage. That or give out high speed 16 or 32 gig sd cards to everyone so that we don't see a performance difference when we do run apps from the sd card

uh, this might sound like a noob question, but how do i change the boot.img?
Or you can just flash a i9505 rom..... I have it now and samsung ''fixed'' the screen issue by making the settings background not black, but some form of grey..

Lol! Feeling entitled much? They didn't honestly owe us anything... Even a fix you could check out this phone and its internal storage space in stores and see what other people were saying before making the purchase...

Someone seems to have an attitude for no reason.
And no, allot of us didnt have the chance to check out the phone before we bought it, because we bought it as soon as the order page went up. And sorry if i think that if you advertise something as 16 gigs, you should at least get pretty close to 16 gigs, not 9. Its people like you who always say "they dont owe us anything" that nothing changes.
Allot of us feel that we got screwed, and we let Samsung know that. If enough people complain, they WILL do something about it.
I flashed a cwm flashable XXUBMEA ROM. and i can't change my apn to fast.t-mobile.com to change to the LTE apn... when i try to change it to IPV4/IPV6 I can't because it's grayed out. so you cant tap it.
Just a quick update. I did flash the XXUBMEA to my T-Mobile S4, but I was having some issues. like my calls kept dropping, and a bunch of apps would freeze and have to force close, like hill climb racing, facebook, twitter, XDA-developers app to name a few. thankfully i made a nandroid back up before flashing XXUBMEA so now i'm back on MDL.
can you post link to which one you flashed?
Sure it's http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=22979706399755386 make sure you open the zip and change the boot.Img from the kernel to a t mobile kernel.

I used that one for a bit and didn't like it. They deleted some essential apps and widgets like the play store, youtube street view, and the stock weather widget. Also the dual camera doesn't work. I had to ODIN the MDL back. I'm looking for full stock MEA ROM deodexed TWRP flashable zip.
I noticed after restoring my phone loading lifeless14 that my available storage diminished drastically- 7 GB! I'm sure 25 is more than enough, but an 7gb difference is a little concerning. I actually think I may have noticed it after flashing beanstalk (went lifeless; I just can't find a "stable" custom rom for some reason). Any idea where this overwhelming large chunk of data could've gone, and more importantly, is any of it recoverable?
Well formatting any storage medium will take away some space. I think with just the rom installed and the internal SD formatted is 27gb if you don't have anything installed

Check for a logcat. It'll be in root of SD with stock. And /mnt/shell/emulated/0 if you're running any CM ROM.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes it's 27 gigs with just the stock rom installed. Might be able to get up to 28.5 gb with a barebones aosp rom, but because of the formatting android uses your not going to get the full 32 gb ever

Well... No matter what formatting you use, the format will always take up space
Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk 4
Checking for logcat was the first thing I did. And I knew formating would take up space, just had no idea it would take up that much. Most people don't even tip their waiters 20% these days.
I just flashed my first rom. It was very straight forward and easy. My tablet also seems to run quite a bit smoother now.
My one problem is all of the internal memory is not being recognized. My total memory is being registered as 10 gigs however I have 9 gigs free.
It seems like it didn't affect my free space, but maybe there is a hidden partition on the drive? I already tried a wipe and restore but it had no affect.
