DTMF not working for calling automated customer support? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anybody noticed a problem with the nexus 5x where selecting the dialpad keys during a call with automated customer support does not work?
I am having issues where I cannot call using calling card (cannot enter the pin) or use the customer support of various places where you need to select number based options after the call is connected.

I made a call to my bank this afternoon and didn't have any issues inputting my card and pin. Other than my account isn't in the six figures yet, of course. What are your settings for Dialpad tones and Dialpad length in Phone settings? I'm stock, mine has Dialpad tones checked and Dialpad length set to "Normal." Maybe switch Dialpad length to "Long" and check it out.

It happens sometime on my device as well. Just a reboot is required to fix it.

[Q] Google Voice/ FDN/ PIN2 Question

I'm setting up Google Voice and saw that there is a fixed dial number (FDN) setting.
My questions are :
1) Will this option make it so GV's access number is the same on every call?
2) it asks for a PIN2 number. I tried 1234 and 0000 and neither worked. Tmo is stumped. I did not set a number. Does anyone know another possible default code?
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
FDN restricts outgoing calls to only the numbers on a pre determined list. See en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fixed_Dialing_Number for more information.
This will not affect google voice, since when you make a google voice call it is an incoming, not an outgoing call from your phone. If I remember correctly, there is a setting on the google voice page to control how your calls appear on caller id (random number or GV number)
If you want to use FDN, the default PIN2 is 5678, keep in mind that t-mobile does not support the use of this feature, so if you lock yourself out they may not be able to help you.

Thanks for the reply. Is there anyway to have GV use a fixed access number. I use the myfaves paln to get free unlimited incoming/outoging calls. But when gv changes acess numbers and I don't catch it fast enough, I get charged.
As far as I am aware (from my knowledge of using google voice and from searching) there is not a way to prevent the access numbers from changing.
If you want to use one number for all your calls, you can start by calling your own GV number and selecting option 2 (place a call) from the main menu.

[Q] phone doesn't ring long enough......

......... before going to voicemail.
ive tried
settings>call settings>settings?incoming call staus>call forwarding settings>forward when unanswered but there is no option to change the length of time before forwarding.
using the latest miui
I know with some providers this is fixed by entering their override code to increase ring duration. Had to get this done when I was using Virgin Mobile Australia. Just call tech support up and see what they can do. I know its bloody annoying when diverts to voicemail after just a few rings.

You can also insert your sim in a phone that does have the call forwarding settings. Most do and you probably have a backup phone handy. Extend the time then put the sim back in your Desire HD.

[Q] Forwarding to Google Voice Mail

Hi all,
I tried searching for this here but I couldn't find anything useful.
For all the Nexus phones I've had in the past, I've always used GV. All of my voicemails get forwarded there. For some reason, I can't do it with the GS3. Even the Call Forwarding option is greyed out in the phone settings. I'm on the latest UVALH2 and rooted. I'm thinking that they purposely disabled this feature so we have to subscribe to T-Mobile's Visual Voicemail.
If anyone has an answer, please let me know.
thanks,
Phong

So you've gotten on a PC and went to google voice?
Try this:
1. Open the Phone app and go to the Keypad.
2. Dial: *004* (that's Star Zero Zero Four Star) then your full GV number with country code, then #.
3. Press the green phone button to dial.
So, an example would be: *004* 12025551212#
This turns on Conditional Forwarding. GV setup should work fine after this.

This is what i did to get mine working....the app alone wont activate it. do the above. id clear the cache for the voice app, start over with above and you should be cherry.
I found out that if you are trying to forward TMob voice mail to GV over wifi, it will not go through.
When I tried it over the usual cell connection, it went through on the first try. Hope this helps.
Nothing of the above worked for me on CM10. I got it work by doing this:
Open your Dialer, then Settings > Call Forward. Change all numbers to your GV number. Then go to Voicemail settings and change it to GV there as well.
Hope that helps.

I had to add an extra * in front of *004* for mine to register; otherwise I'd get a call forwarding error.
To all,
I got this working but I had to put my SIM card in my Nexus S then dialed the *004*...

[Q] Voicemail #?

This is probably a *really* dumb question, but.. er..
On verizon, my VM number was my own phone number. Easypeasy. However, on TMobile, my S4, it's some number out in California! Is this right? What the heck?
Yes I noticed this on my wife s4. So I checked my nexus 4 and same... It's some 805 area code... Also I noticed the forwarding numbers for busy, unreachable etc are all 805 numbers lol.

That's weird, because I can call my number on my phone (despite there being a VM icon in the phone app and completely bypass needing a password) and it takes me to VM and it works... using from any other phone when you get to your greeting you either have to press * or # IIRC, then input your password.

INteresting. If I call myself, I get asked for my pin. (This is exactly how VZW worked on my Fascinate.) I was just wondering since I noticed when I call my VM (using the notification) it goes to that California number.

Call Forward not working (AT&T)

Anyone having an issue with call forwarding not being able to be set up? I use youmail for voicemail and today I went to set it up on my 5X, It couldn't forward the calls. When I went into the call settings to try to manually enter the code I get an error. It will not allow me to forward. Anyone else have this issue?
The exact message I get is:
"Call settings error
Unexpected response from network"
Opps meant to post this in Q&A. I reported to the mods to move
Bump on this.
Using a Nexus 5X trying to setup call forwarding, and I get the same error when configuring it from the phone application, and "Call Forwarding, Connection problem or invalid MMI code" when using the MMI code. Same thing happens when I try to configure it using a Nexus 6 running Marshmallow.
Tested fine on an AT&T branded HTC A9 running marshmallow though, so it seems to only affect the Vanilla flavor of the OS.
I had to call AT&T and have them manually do it but it's still not working correctly. If I dont answer the call it goes to my AT&T voicemail but if I reject the call it goes to youmail even though in call settings it's all set to youmail. I'm going to call AT&T tomorrow and try to figure it out.

I had the same issue. I had to call them and they made changes to the hd and standard voice call forwarding sections and that fixed it.

So after a call to them and mentioning this and telling them with no answer it was still going to my AT&T VM she checked and sure enough it wasn't provisioned correctly. Now everything works as it should
After reading this I called AT&T and passed on the information. She told me that I was provisioned correctly and entered my IMEI in their system. Still can't get HD Voice or Call Forwarding working. Any other tips that may help??

I had the same issue, even got my nano-sim swapped again. Turned out it was the HD Voice feature. N5X supports HDV, AT&T provisioned it correctly but this feature causes communication failure to AT&T network when try to change/update call forwarding. The ATT tech guy disabled HD Voice on my account, I can now change/update the forwarding numbers again. The fix might be temporary though, ATT regularly does network sweep and it might just automatically turn on HDV feature again when it detects your phone supports it. A permanent solution would be for Google to add an option to manually disable HDV on the phone in the next update.
Sorry for the 2-year old thread bump, but I have a relevant update...
It now appears that the stock dialer can properly provision the call forwarding settings on AT&T. Settings --> calls ---> call forwarding ---> update busy/unanswered/unreachable. I reached out to AT&T support after changing and they confirmed it was properly set on their end. Though, FWIW, I previously had AT&T set the forwarding settings, but had to pull the SIM to test an iPhone. It seems to have reset the forwarding settings, which is why I had to mess with this again in the first place...
